How to get the encoding of a byte array (or ByteBuffer)?

Hello;
I have a byte array which may be encoded with any kind of encoding and I want to determine which encoding was used to encode this byte array. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance..

Byte Arrays have NO encoding at all. When bytes are packed to characters, that is where encoding comes into picture. java.lang.String has enough methods to do that.

    How to get the file size (in bytes) for all files in a directory?
    The following code does not work. isFile() does NOT recognize files as files but only as directories. Why?
    Furthermore the size is not retrieved correctly.
    How do I have to code it otherwise? Is there a way of not converting f-to-string-to-File again but iterate over all file objects instead?
    Thank you
    Peter
    java.io.File f = new java.io.File("D:/todo/");
    files = f.list();
    for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
    System.out.println("fn=" + files);
    if (new File(files[i]).isFile())
         System.out.println("file[" + i + "]=" + files[i] + " size=" + (new File(files[i])).length() ); }

    Here is an SSCCE.

  • How to get the "encoding" of a XML file using JDOM

    As in XML file, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> indicates the encoding of this file
    while using JDOM to parse a XML file, how can I get the encoding type?
    thanx!!!

    What my program do is to get the encoding of XML files and convert them to UTF-8 encoding files, while I need this "encoding" information of the original XML document thus I can convert...
    After reading specifications and JDOM docs, the truth turns to be disappointed, no function is provided to get this information in JDOM level 2(the current released one), while it's promissed that this function will be provided in JDOM level API....
    Thanx all for your help and attention!!!

  • How to get the encoding of a XML file ...

    Hi,
    How do you get the encoding of a XML file?
    For example,
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="SJIS"?>
    I am trying to retrieve the above encoding="SJIS", but I can't seem to locate the API for doing so.
    Thanks in advance for any help,
    Eric

    Hi ddossot,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
    However, the xerces.jar file that comes with my old tomcat server is an old version and thus, the getEncoding method is not even present in the DocumentImpl class. The option to update to a newer version of tomcat and xerces is not available. What a pity... :-(
    Well, I just have to try to find a way around. Worst case scenario, parse the first line in the xml file myself.

  • How to get the memory address of an array (pointer in C)?

    I am writing an application that exchanges data with a PXI device via DMA.  Basically I will provide it a memory address and a direction, and it transfers the data.  I would like to give it the memory location of an array in LabVIEW, but I do not know how to get the memory location without doing a DLL call to C code that returns the pointer.  Is there an easy way to do this in LabVIEW?  Any help is much appreciated.

    A similar question was asked recently regarding strings. You cannot pass pointers in LabVIEW as you do in C. You can pass an array to a DLL, but that means you would need to write a wrapper DLL. Be sure to read the section in the LabVIEW Help on calling code from text-based languages and also take a look at the "Call DLL" example that ships with LabVIEW  - it contains many examples of how to deal with various datatypes.

  • How to know the length of a Byte array?

    how to know the length a byte array if it is an argument of the method, e.g.
    public byte[] hash(byte[] data) throws Exception

    THanks!

    to conclude:
    I am a newbie, I wanna know , those "System"
    methods as well.What exactly does that have to do with your original question?
    or instance:
    System.arrowcopy() , where can I find the
    definition also?You probably meant System.arraycopy. The documentation is called JavaDoc and for Java 1.5 (a.k.a. 5.0) it can be found here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/index.html
    If you've not yet found the API documentation, then I'm pretty sure you should start with some tutorials, they probably point to all the interesting documentation as well.

  • How to get the number of bytes at TCP port

    Hi all,
    How to get the number of bytes to read at the TCp port...as someone had suggested in some forum we do read the number of bytes first and then pass this...
    but we get a problem when we have FF data in this...because then it sends 2 FF data...and cause of this we skip the last data...is there any solution for the same?

    Hi
    In LabVIEW you don't have the same property as in serail port.
    You havn't "Byte at TCPIP port".
    if you developp a protocol, one soltion, is to send the size to read.

  • How to get the byte[] size dynamically from the StreamMessage object

    Hi all,
    Using JMS, I am receiving the FDF file as StreamMessage from the queue and attaching it to the PDF file which is present in the local system.
    For that, I have written the code as follows:
    {color:#0000ff} Message msg = jmsTemplate.receive();
    if(msg !=null && msg instanceof StreamMessage)
    StreamMessage message = (StreamMessage) msg;{color}
    {color:#ff6600}//hardcoded the byte array size value
    {color}{color:#0000ff} byte[] bytes = new byte[{color:#ff0000}856{color}];
    System.out.println("read msg="+message.readBytes(bytes));{color}
    {color:#0000ff}PdfReader pdfreader = new PdfReader("D:\\Managing_Workflows_No_Comment.pdf");
    PdfStamper stamp = new PdfStamper(pdfreader, new FileOutputStream("D:\\12345.pdf"));
    FdfReader fdfreader = new FdfReader(bytes);
    stamp.addComments(fdfreader);
    {color} {color:#0000ff} stamp.close();
    {color}{color:#000000}The above code is working fine except with the hardcoded of {color:#ff0000}byte array{color}{color:#ff0000} size value{color} which is given in {color:#ff0000}RED{color} in color.
    Can anybody know, {color:#000000}*how to get the byte[] size dynamically from the StreamMessage*{color} object ?
    Any help would be highly beneficial for me !!!!
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ganesh Kumar{color}

    When you create your stream message you could add an property to your message, something like streamSize that would contain the number of bytes in your stream message. Then you could get this property from the message before declaring your array.

  • How to get the number of bytes at ethernt port using tcp/ip?

    I have data with variable sizes.I am getting the data from another sytem using software C.
    How can I get the exact number of bytes coming at the port before using the read command so that the no. of bytes at port has to be given as the input to the tcp read vi?

    Philippe_RSA wrote:
    So may responses saying your question is wrong..... typical of this site, and no decent answer after 5 years !
    The answer I have used is to use a call library function:
    short int ioctlsocket(unsigned long socket, unsigned long fionread, unsigned long *len);
    where fionread is a windows defined constant =  4004667F
    The socket can be obtained from using the       TCP Get RAW NET OBJECT.vi   which comes with Labview (even as far back as version 7).
    Good luck.
    A protocol requiring such a hack is IMHO very poorly designed. You should always have some way on the wire to determine the data stream size. If the data is fixed size that would be inherent to the protocol, if it's variable sized there should be a fixed size header or a known message termination indication that can be used to determine how to read the rest of the message.
    As a side node, I do consider the existence of VISA Bytes at Serial Port a big error, and that is most likely where this question originally came from. Use of "bytes at port" to decode a protocol will ALWAYS lead to protocol errors sooner or later, and code that is unneccessarily complicated to force the routine to deal with the asynchonous reading of the "bytes at port" into the protocol decoding.
    If a protocol can't be decoded with fixed size reads, fixed size reads with following variable size reads determined from information in the header, or a specific message termination indication, then it is very badly flawed.

  • How to get the table of value field? and can we expand the technical limits

    Dear
    I have created value field in COPA with KEA6. And now, I need the table which the value fields are saved. Yet, I have tried a lot to find it and get failure? Can any guy help me? Please tell me how to get the table of a value field.
    And another question is that, can we extend the technical limits for the number of value field for ECC6.0?
    We have a note for R.4.x Please see below:
    OSS note 160892
    You can display the length of a data record using Transaction KEA0 ('Maintain Operating Concern'). After you have navigated to the 'Characteristics Screen' or to the 'Value field Screen' choose menu path 'Extras -> Technical Limits'.
    The maximum displayed here under 'Length in bytes on the DB' is the maximum length permitted by the Dictionary. The reserve required for the release upgrade must be subtracted from this value.
    To increase the allowed number of the value fields, increase the value that is assigned to field ikcge-bas_max_cnt (FORM init_ikcge_ke USING fm_subrc, approx. line 165) in Include FKCGNF20. It specifies the number of the possible value fields. The corresponding part of the source code is attached to the note as a correction.

  • How to get the values of the objects inside an object??

    Hi,
    I am trying to write code to display name and memory usage of all session attributes, in a recursive way.
    I suppose reflection is needed here, but I can’t figure out how to get the values of the objects inside an object...
    private void handleIt(String attributeName, Object attributeValue) {
         boolean isPrimitiveOrNull = ((null == attributeValue) ||
              (attributeValue.getClass().isPrimitive()));
         if (isPrimitiveOrNull) {
              sb.append("{" + attributeName + ":" + sizeOf(attributeValue) + "}");
         } else {
              sb.append("{" + attributeName + ":" + sizeOf(attributeValue) + "{");
              Field[] fields = attributeValue.getClass().getDeclaredFields();
              int lim = fields.length;
              String name;
              Object value = null;
              for (int i = 0; i < lim; i++) {
                   name = fields.getName();
                   //LOOK AT THIS LINE: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                   value = fields[i].get(obj); //I don´t know what 'obj' should be??
                   handleIt(name, value);
              sb.append("}");
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

    I realized that massive int objects called MAX_VALUE, MIN_VALUE and SIZE where causing the StackOverflow, so I removed them from the analysis.
    This is the resultant code. But I think it isn’t accurate in calculating the real size of objects being got using reflexion.
    Do you or somebody have any more suggestions?

  • How to get the selectedIndex from a combobox made by classFactory?

    Dear All,
    I am trying to get the selectedIndex or selecetedItem.banda_id when changing a combobox that is created by classFactory and it is inside a datagrid.
    The code I have is:
    MXML:
    <mx:DataGrid width="100%" height="100%" id="salas_fin_dg" editable="true">
         <mx:columns>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Titulo" dataField="titulo" editable="false" width="250"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Data" dataField="start_dt" editable="false"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Dur" dataField="duration" editable="false" width="40"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Banda" dataField="banda_nome" editable="true" itemEditor="{combofac}"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ Ensaio" dataField="total_ensaio" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ Bar" dataField="total_bar" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ Loja" dataField="total_loja" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ CC" dataField="total_cc" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ CH" dataField="total_ch" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ DI" dataField="total_di" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
    <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="$ Pend" dataField="total_pend" editable="true" itemEditor="controls.NumericInput"/>
         </mx:columns>
    </mx:DataGrid>
    Script:
    private function getSalasFinHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
    salas_fin_lst = new ArrayCollection(event.result as Array);
    salas_fin_dg.dataProvider = salas_fin_lst;
    myservice.getBandas();
    combofac=new ClassFactory(ComboBox);
         combofac.properties={dataProvider:bandas_lst, labelField:"banda_nome", prompt:"Selecione"};
    I am using Remote Object to get the data from a DB, and it is working properly.
    As I will update the datagrid cell values, I would like to update them on the DB.
    In order to do that, I would need to access the banda_id value, that is part of the combofac dataprovider, I mean that this dataprovider has 2 columns, being banda_nome and banda_id.
    The question is how to get the banda_id value, when I change the comobobox?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Gines

    Dear harUI and kolinitcom,
    Thanks for the your prompt response and guidelines.
    I went to research a little bit more on the itemEditEnd and found a way to access the data inside the combobox.
    The code for all application goes below. If you click on the button, it will show you all the datagrid data, plus the ID of the combobox when changed.
    Thanks again,
    Gines
