How to get XML output from a stored procedure

I have a very simple question:
I would like to write a stored procedure (SP) that will return results in XML format (as a string). My tables in database are not of XML TYPE. But I need XML output.
ie, SP will run like a typical SP but the only difference will be its output in XML.
1) is it possible?
2) if possible, how?
Please, help

Thank you Peter, it was a great problem for me !

  • Hi How to get XML file from servlet that XI sent to my J2EE appl?

    Hi All!
    I have a scenario like XI sends xml file to j2ee application. In my J2EE application my servlet receives this xml. Will the xml file be in my HTTPServletRequest object? if so how to get that file from Request object.
    Please help me its urgent, Any code help is highly appreciated.
    My xml file will be like this:
    <ns0:Http_Message_Type_Demo
    xmlns:ns0="http://abcdemo.com">
    <Name>ABC</Name>
    <RollNo>123</RollNo>
    <Address>a-4</Address>
    </ns0:Http_Message_Type_Demo>
    somebody should help me!please
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can use HTTPServletRequest object to get the XML payload.
    BufferedReader reader = request.getReader(); //gets XML payload
    String line = reader.readLine(); // to read the XML payload line by line
    (request is the HTTPServletRequest object)

  • How do I get return parameters from a stored procedure call?

    The Open SQL Statement has an option on the Advanced tab to specify a command type of 'stored procedure'. In addition to returning a recordset, a stored procedure can also return parameters (see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q185/1/25.ASP for info on doing this with ADO). Is it possible to get those return parameters with TestStand? In particular, I want to be able to get error codes back from the stored procedure in case it fails (maybe there is another way).

    The Open SQL Statement step type does not fully support stored procedures. If the procedure returns a record set than you can fetch the values as you would a SELECT statement. Stored procedures require you to setup the parameters before the call and this is not yet supported. Bob, in his answer, made a reference to the Statements tab and I think that he was talking about the Database Logging feature in TS 2.0.
    If the stored procedure is returning a return value, it may return as a single column, single row recordset which can be fetched as you normally do a record set.

  • Get variable values from a stored procedure

    I am using SQL 2008R2 and I want to replace a view inside a stored procedure with a new stored procedure to return multiple variable values. Currently I am using the code below to get values for 4 different variables.  I would rather get the 4 variables
    from a stored procedure (which returns all of these 4 values and more) but not sure how to do so.  Below is the code for getting the 4 variable values in my current sp.
    DECLARE @TotalCarb real;
    DECLARE @TotalPro real;
    DECLARE @TotalFat real;
    DECLARE @TotalLiquid real;
    SELECT @TotalCarb = ISNULL(TotCarb,0),
    @TotalPro = ISNULL(TotPro,0),
    @TotalFat = ISNULL(TotFat,0),
    @TotalLiquid = ISNULL(TotLiq,0)
    FROM dbo.vw_ActualFoodTotals
    WHERE (MealID = @MealID);

    You can replace the view with inline table valued user-defined function:

  • How to use dbms_Scheduler.Create_Job from within stored procedure?

    Hello,
    using 10g (10.1.0.2.0) on Windows 2000 I had problems to create scheduler jobs from within a stored procedure (see example below). What easily succeeds using anonymous blocks failed when calling from a stored procedure, due to ORA-27486. Only when I compile the procedure with invoker's rights the call to dbms_Job.Create_Job is successfull!? From my knowledge there is no difference between invoker's and definer's rights, if I compile and call with the same user, is there?
    Does anyone know the reason for this behaviour or is it simply a bug?
    Have a nice day.

    exec dbms_scheduler.drop_job('TEST_JOB1', true);
    exec dbms_scheduler.drop_job('TEST_JOB2', true);
    drop table t;
    */

    Your example code ran without problems for me on 10.1.0.3.0 so it probably is a bug.

  • Can you get values back from a stored procedure via OUTPUT parameters?

    Can you get values back from calling a stored procedure via OUTPUT parameters/variables? I call the SP via a SQL statement from a script either in a WF or DF.
    I thought I read some reference that DI could not get the values from OUTPUT parameters but I could not find it again (don't know if it is in any of the documentation or referred to in a forum.
    I did try a couple of tests but it did not reutrn any values via OUTPUT. But before I give up I thought I'd see if you could and maybe I needed to change something.

    This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but I'll point out that, given that you're resorting to a SQL script in the first place, there's no reason you can't also turn the output parameters into a regular result or record set. (The following uses T-SQL, although I think it's pretty generic.)
    declare @param1 int, param2 varchar(100), @return int;
    exec @return = proc @param1 = @param1 output, @param2 = @param2 output;
    select @param1 as param1, @param2 as param2;
    That is, to get from output parameters to a "regular" output from the SQL script isn't much of a leap...

  • JDev generated webservices encodes XML output from PL/SQL procedure

    I have a PL/SQL packaged procedure which takes some input parameters and produces one output parameter. The output parameter is of type CLOB and after the procedure has run, it contains a big piece of XML data.
    Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.1, I've published this packaged procedure as a webservice. The generated webservice is fine and works, except for one tiny little issue: the XML that is taken from the output parameter is encoded.
    Here is an example of the SOAP message that the webservice returns:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
    xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xmlns:ns0="http://gbv0300u/GBV0300U.wsdl/types/"><env:Body><ns0:gbv0300uResponse
    Element><ns0:result><ns0:obvglijstOut> & gt;type>GBV0001& gt ;/type& lt;
    & gt;diensten& lt;
    & gt;dienst>some value& gt;/dienst& lt;
    & gt;/diensten& lt;
    </ns0:obvglijstOut></ns0:result></ns0:gbv0300uResponseElement></env:Body></env:Envelope>
    (I've manually added an extra space between the & and lt; or gt; to make sure a browser will not translate it into a < or >!)
    The contents of the <ns0:obvglijstOut> element are filled with the output parameter from the PL/SQL package.
    How can I change the generated webservice, so the output from the PL/SQL package is used as is instead of being encoded?

    Update: I've tested a bit more by adding some output statements to the java code that JDeveloper generated. I'm now 100% sure the PL/SQL code gives the XML data correctly to the webservice.
    At this moment my guess is that somewhere in the WSDL definition there is something that enables the encoding of the data. But I'm not sure.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Newbie question on how to return java objects from java stored procedures

    Hi,
    As you may guess, i'm new to this.
    I have a stored procedure that does some calculations and creates a list of java objects as the result of the query.
    How would I return the list from the database to the client application?
    Would I have to create an Oracle type that maps to the java object?
    Please help.
    Jag

    Hi Jag,
    Your question is very vague (to me). Perhaps you could post what you have done so far? Have you tried looking through the Sample Code page of the Technet Web site, or tried searching the Ask tom Web site, or MetaLink?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    spool $ORACLE_BASE/local/logs/execjava_prod.log
    set timing on
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON SIZE 5000
    CALL dbms_java.set_output(5000);
    variable i varchar2(12)
    call getDatesAndLoad('/dbs/TEST/105pd.dmd') into :i;
    print i
    spool off

    In the link you referenced, it says
    As a result, System.out and System.err print to the current trace files. To redirect output to the SQL*Plus text buffer, call the procedure set_output() in package DBMS_JAVA, as follows:
    SQL> SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
    SQL> CALL dbms_java.set_output(2000);
    Which is what I have done. So then shouldn't my output be redirected to the sqlplus text buffer?

  • Error in getting xml output from Apps

    I have developer 10g. Whatever report (rdf) I create I face exactly the same problem. I register the report (rdf) in Apps and select xml format as the output. But when I run it to get the xml file, I get the following error
    The XML page cannot be displayed
    Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    A semi colon character was expected. Error processing resource 'http://XXXX.XXXX.XXX.XXX:8000/OA_CGI/FNDWRR.exe?temp_id=3547...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="&Encoding"?>
    ---------------------------------------^If I use Reports 6i to create exactly the same report (rdf) everything works fine (i.e I get the xml file when I run it).
    What is the issue with 10g?

    If you have & or any other special characters like < ,>
    & lt;      <      less than
    & gt;      >      greater than
    & amp;      &      ampersand
    & apos;      '      apostrophe
    & quot;      "      quotation mark
    these , have to replaced by the equivalent in the sql queries. to get like & lt; , & gt; ,
    because these are pre-defined in XML , so the xml will error out , if you any of these characters in the xml element value.

  • Read data from a Stored Procedure in Android

    I have a Stored Procedure say CustOrdersDetail. I have created a MBO for it in the workspace and deployed it on SAP Mobile Server. I am unable to read data from the stored procedure in code of the Android Application. If I pass a default load argument, then I am able to read data using findAll method. How to get the data from the stored procedure by passing it an argument in the Android Code ?

    Currently I am trying to call the stored procedure and retrieve the results. The stored procedure accepts 'orderId' as an argument and fetches the Product and Order Details.

  • Get a return value from a stored procedure.

    hi all ,
    i need to know where i am going wrong with the below code. I am trying to get a value from a stored procedure. the return type is int. The stored procedure works fine as i've debugged it. The variable have been declared correctly.
    int n = 0;
    proc = conn.prepareCall("{ ? = call SP_GETITEMCURRENTSOH(?,?) }");
                proc.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
                proc.setString(1, locationCode);
                proc.setString(2, itemCode);
                proc.execute();
                n = proc.getInt(1);thanks

    Hi ayub_a,
    According the [ *setString*|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/CallableStatement.html#setString(java.lang.String,%20java.lang.String)] method of the [*CallableStatement*|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/CallableStatement.html] interface, the first parameter must be a parameter name and not an ordinal position index !!!
    Edit : I've just found out the solution, it must be :
    int n = 0;
    proc = conn.prepareCall("{ ? = call SP_GETITEMCURRENTSOH(?,?) }");
                 proc.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
                 proc.setString(2, locationCode);
                 proc.setString(3, itemCode);
                 proc.execute();
                 n = proc.getInt(1);Edited by: Chicon on Jul 5, 2009 7:48 PM

  • How to Get XML from the PDF form generated using Designer that is stored in LC

    We have a Requirement of Generating reports on what a PDF form is comprised of? It is easy for us to scan / parse the XML format of the PDF form and get all the relavent Info we need. We are able to see the XML format of the PDF form when we open up the Form in Designer.
    But we are trying to run this report in a Batch Mode for many PDF files. I need to know how to get a XML format of the PDF file that is stored in LC that was developed using Designer. Once we are able to get the XML of the PDF form it is just a scan / parse to get the relavent data.
    Can some one tell me how to get the XML format of a PDF file stored in the LC?

    If I place the PDF form on the LC server - Can you let  me know of the tools you are referring to get XML design from the PDF form?
    Is it through a Process Orchestration I need to run the PDF through to get a XML design out of it?
    I am fine in storing the PDF in the LC server? How will I get the XML design (XML) from this PDF on the server?
