How to handle Output Data Association when no row returned?
In BPM 11g, I'm using a Service to select a row from an external database passing a parameter using a Database Adapter. Works fine when a row is returned. But if no row is returned (which can happen because no match is found on the Select based on the parameter value), I'm getting an error on the composite because the Output Data Association has the return values, including integers, mapped to a Data Object I defined in the process. Well if no row is found, the integer value is empty, and errors out trying to save it.
How do I handle this situation?
The specific message is this:
The expression bpmn:getDataOutput('wm91AInterfaceMainCollection')/ns:Wm91AInterfaceMain[1]/ns:board is empty. An attempt to read or copy data referenced or computed by the XPath expression either had invalid data, according to the XML schema, or did not contain certain optional data. Ensure that the variable or expression result named in the error message is not empty. Enable XML schema validation of related data elements to ensure the run-time data is valid.
I must be missing something obvious here, but cannot find a way to handle this. Thanks in advance!
Dan - Never mind about my request for an example. I figured it out. My problem was that the destination variable was a primitive process variable of type Integer, thus not allowing the creation of an XSLT. Once I created a Complex process data object containing that Integer, I could create an XSLT with an If statement. Thanks again.

thank you very muchThis is too large a topic to discuss in depth here. Here is a link to a tutorial on times and dates, and a search link that references many documents on the subject.

In BDC how you handled header data and item data
In BDC how you handled header data and item data
Raja,
Can you be more clear ?
Usually you load the header data one and then loop at the item data and then load the item data.
This example should help you.

Problem with Top N Query when no rows returned (takes forever)
I have a table with 100 Million rows and I want to get the latest N records using:
SELECT * FROM
(SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnA= 'ABC' ORDER BY TIME DESC)
WHERE rownum <= N;
This works fine and is very fast when there are rows with columnA= 'ABC' but when there are no rows with columnA= 'ABC' the query takes forever.
The strange things is that the inner query returns immediately when run on it's own when no rows with columnA= 'ABC' exist e.g.
SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnA= 'ABC' ORDER BY TIME DESC
So why does it take for ever for to run:
SELECT * FROM (no rows inner query) WHERE rownum <= N;
I have also tried using:
SELECT * FROM
(SELECT columnA, rank() over(ORDER BY TIME DESC) time_rank
FROM tablename WHERE columnA='ABC')
WHERE time_rank <= N;
which returns instantly when there are now rows but takes much longer than the first query when there are rows.I cannot see a real difference:With histogram we can see a difference on the elapse when no row returned and into explain plan.

Why is data object completely emptied by XSLT on Output Data Association?
I have an activity in a BPM 11g workflow that invokes a DbAdapter that does a Select, which may not return any rows in the normal course of processing. My Data Associations for the Output uses an XSLT to map the returned values into one of my process data objects, accounting for the fact they could be empty because no row was found.
The problem: While I only mapped one column from the results of the Select into my data object using an XSLT, when no row is returned, all other values are removed from my data object. I need those to remain intact in the data object.
Why is that? How can I prevent that from happening?
More details...
Here is a snippet of my XSLT used to grab the result of the Select into my data object. Notice it only maps docId, does not include totalEarnings or bW2IsAttached.
<xsl:template match="/">
<ns1:InterfaceTable>
<xsl:if test='/ns0:AccountingDataCollection/ns0:AccountingData/ns0:docId != ""'>
<ns1:docId>
<xsl:value-of select="/ns0:AccountingDataCollection/ns0:AccountingData/ns0:docId"/>
</ns1:docId>
</xsl:if>
</ns1:InterfaceTable>
</xsl:template>
Here's my process data object contents before the DbAdapter activity runs the Select. Notice it includes docId, totalEarnings and bW2IsAttached.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?><MyTestData xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/bpm/bpmobject/Data/MyTestData">
<docId>123456</docId>
<totalEarnings>100.0</totalEarnings>
<bW2IsAttached>false</bW2IsAttached>
</MyTestData>
Now after the Select runs, and no row is found (which can happen), I end up with this empty data object:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?><MyTestData xmlns:ns1="http://xmlns.oracle.com/bpm/bpmobject/Data/MyTestData" xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/bpm/bpmobject/Data/MyTestData"/>
I need the totalEarnings and bW2IsAttached fields to remain in the data object. How can I do that?I tried using the data object as a second data source to map the values back to themselves, but that did not work for some unknown reason. Perhaps I'll try that again.
The only reason I'm using an XSLT is to handle the case of no row returned from the DB Select. So if there is another way to check that, this would be fine. How can I check using an exclusive gateway for a row returned? I just tried to create this setup, but the data object containing the row read from the service activity is not available in the gateway for checking. This would be the ideal solution if you could tell me how to access the data object holding the result of the Select in the gateway. Thanks! -
How to handle empty Dats field received from SAP RFC response
Hi All,
I am invoking a SAP RFC which gives me a Dats field in response.
A valid dats fields is successfully received by my pipelines.
But when an empty Dats field is received, My pipeline fails and i get error.
How to handle the empty Dats field from SAPHi Anant,
This is because the legacy SAP adapter accepted RFC messages with date field empty. In the new version, the same call results in an error. WCF-SAP adapter doesn't allow blank XML nodes.
You need to use the below custom pipeline component as a workaround.
Refer:
Pipeline component for enabling legacy behavior in WCF-SAP adapter.

How to handle The Date error???
Actually I am using three dropdown list as day,month and year
day contains 31 items and same values i.e., 1,2,3...31
and month contains jan,feb,....dec
year 1981,1982,.....2007
and I am concateded these three to form date as
d:=:day||'-'||:month||'-'||:year;
Now my problem is
when i am selecting values 31 jun 1980,30 feb 1980 i.e., non existing dates then it is throwing
"Unhandled trigger ..... "
please tell me how to handle it?There are a number of different exceptions you can get with dates.
SELECT To_Date('10132007','DDMMYYYY') FROM dual;
ORA-01843: not a valid month
SELECT To_Date('99122007','DDMMYYYY') FROM dual;
ORA-01847: day of month must be between 1 and last day of month
SELECT To_Date('10-FEB-2007','DDMMYYYY') FROM dual;
ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expectedFor this I would just trap the ORA-01847 and 'when others' exceptions. -
I spend quite a few months each year in Canada where I use a Telus Cellular Hub device which is also my WiFi Router. My iPhone 5 has Cellular Data set to "Off" which insures I won't be charged via my Verizon Wireless Service Provider for charges while in Canada. Trouble is Telus, Rogers and all the Canadian Internet Providers charge for all Data going through their Systems. Again, My Cellular Data on the iPhone 5 is turned off, but I use WiFi for such things as checking the Weather, or FaceBook, or searching the Web.
I believe that things may be happening in the background from various Apps that use quite a lot of Data. It could be that iCloud is part of the issue with things being backed up automatically. It also could be that Apps like AP or other News Apps are sending large amounts of Data in the photos associated with their New Stories, etc. I typically turn off the App Store "Updates" such that they don't automatically load. The FaceBook works now posted videos play when you are just scrolling through the News Feed.
I have been trying to fine an article somewhere which focuses on this specific problem but unfortunately many if not most articles are about folks worried about using Cellular Data while in a WiFi environment when their Cellular Data is turned on.
Does anyone know of a fairly comprehensive article about what settings on which Apps might reduce the Data Usage when Cellular Data is turned "Off" but you are going through a Service Provider who charges for all Data Accessed even when you are using WiFi?Thanks for your comments, it is clear you understand my plight. The trouble is fully understanding what Apps and App Features are transferring data in the background any time you happen to turn WiFi to on (even if you have had it off most of the day or night). Obviously things like Location Services can constantly be sending and receiving data from my iPhone without any action on my part. Also if you have things like photo backup on the iCloud then each time you take a photo you are sending a copy out. All App Updates if set to Automatic also can add up to quite a bit of Data. Reading the News on AP or scrolling through FB News Feed is actually adding up to a lot of Data. There could be other culprits that I am not even thinking of. I don't want to turn Apps like Find My Phone off or turn iCloud off due to loosing the value of such a program entirely. Again thanks for your quick response.

How do I preserve date/time when converting to DNG?
When I convert a file to DNG format in Lightroom, it changes the capture time in the metadata to the current date and time, rather than copying the source data. Is there a way in which I can tell it to leave my dates alone?
You wrote: “I noticed my mistake. It seems that what the conversion process was changing was the ‘Metadata Date’ and ‘Date Time’ fields, but ‘Date Time ‘" and ‘Date Time Digitized’ were remaining the proper, original date. The cause of my confusion was that my Metadata panel view was hiding all but the ‘Date Time’ field, so it appeared as though it had overwritten my prior date information.”
Date/times in photo metadata can be very confusing. There are all these fields with confusing names imposed by legacy industry standards -- I challenge anyone except a metadata nerd like me to remember the meanings and differences of Date/Time, Date/Time Original, Date/Time Digitized, Capture Time, Metadata Date, Modify Date, .... The worst are the two XMP fields Date Created and Create Date, which have two very different meanings! And every app and operating system makes a half-hearted attempt to "simplify" it for the user by choosing different names.
LR makes no serious attempt to make this easy for the user, and over the first several versions, it's handling of date/times was pretty sloppy. (It still has outstanding bugs that don't crop up that often in practice.) You would think that at least LR would provide roll-over tool tips on the field names in the Metadata panel explaining each field. -
