How to handle the remote files in servlets

Hi all,
I want to handle the file remotely in a server side class file by giving the realtive path , let us say some thing like
File f = new File("http://localhost:8080/images/");
here images is a directory, my requirement is to get all the image names in the folder.

you don't have to do it through the network layer...
check the servlet context doc
http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/2.3/javadoc/javax/servlet/ServletContext.html
(specially the getRealPath an getResource methods
It helps you to know where you are on the localfilesystem, then you can retrieve the files you want

    How to parse that file using servlets.I should get the xml file as it is and should be displayed in the browser.

    Please help me!

    Download this java code
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/sax/work/Echo02.java
    in your servlet code you can write
    public void doPost(req,resp){
    DefaultHandler handler = new Echo02();
    handler.parse(req.getInputStream());
    Offcourse you will need to modify the code of Echo02 class a bit to suit your requirement which would finally retrun you a string and you can then write it using
    respose.getWriter().write(responseString);

  • How to handle the java.policy file ?

    Can somebody tell me how to handle the java.policy file?
    I always get java.net.SocketExceptions and java.security.AccessControlExceptions while connecting to an appserver from an applet.
    What do I have to write in the java.policy file, where do I have to place it and do I have to call it in some way form my applet?
    Thanks in advance.
    don call

    The java.policy file goes in your jre installation directory in .../jre/lib/security (there should be one there already).
    I used it to allow otherwise restricted permissions for an applet using javax.comm. Add something like the following to the file:
    grant codeBase "URL:http://yourDomainName/rootDirectoryOfYourApp/*" {
         permission java.security.AllPermission;
    This will give the applet downloaded from your site all permissions. You might want to give only certain permissions, I don't know.

  • How to get the source file name and transform into database

    Hi,
    We need to load data from source file abc.csv into oracle table. during loading, we need to keep the file name abc.csv and write into the database table as one field. Is there anyone who did the similar task? and how to make it? Pls help!

    Hi,
    If you can write the filename to a text file, you may do the following:
    (1) create a text-file containing the name of your source-file.
    (2) create an external table using that text-file as input.
    Now, you can SELECT the filename from the external table.
    Of course, you need a way to : create the flat file, handle the flat file, etc.
    Grtz.

  • How to extract the cobol files into owb

    Using contorl file i am trying to load these into Oracle,But i am not able into insert these records into Oracle.
    Can any tell me how to handle this kind of situation?
    Regards,
    Rupak

    Good morning Ashok,
    Your data is in a SQL*Loader supported datatype, so basically it should not be a problem.
    Have you checked the Database Utilities guide (for Oracle9i for instance: http://www.lc.leidenuniv.nl/awcourse/oracle/server.920/a96652/toc.htm) on how to handle this?
    I'll also repeat my previous question, have you ever been able to load data into the database using SQL*Loader (either using ASCII values or any other datatype)?
    For the OWB part, have you read "Importing Data Definitions" (typically chapter 4)? More specifically, "Specifying Field Properties" in "About Flat File Sources and Targets"?
    In "SQL*Loader Properties" it says the following:
    Type Describes the data type of the field for the SQL*Loader. You can use the Flat
    File Sample Wizard to import the following data types: CHAR, DATE, DECIMAL
    EXTERNAL, FLOAT EXTERNAL, INTEGER EXTERNAL, ZONED , AND ZONED
    EXTERNAL. For complete information on SQL*Loader field and data types, refer to
    Oracle9i Utilities. Currently, only portable datatypes are supported.
    If you check the database utitlities guide (chapter 6 Field List Reference) and look for "SQL*Loader Datatypes", you'll find (packed) decimal under the Nonportable Datatypes. This implies that OWB does not support it.
    This does not mean you can't use SQL*Loader, you'll only have to define everything separate from OWB and call it separately as well.
    Good luck, Patrick

  • How i can access log file in servlet?

    How i can access log file in servlet then display it to browser.
              Can i have peice of codes...
              Thanks in advance.!

    This is not something that can be answered easily. There is quite alot of code involved....
    To get started I suggest you read up on the built-in package 'DBMS_LOB' from Oracle . Most of what you need you should find there.

  • How to handle the contents of a carousel

    Hi,all
    Now I have a trouble in how to handle the contents of a carousel.
    I use codes below:
              locator=(PMTElementaryStream es).getDvbLocator();
              serviceDomain.attach(locator);
              dsmccObject=new DSMCCObject(serviceDomain.getMountPoint().toString());
              file=new File(serviceDomain.getMountPoint().toString());
              content= file.list();
    to get some file or directories, such as *.png, *.class, *.mpg, xml, MHPdataloader, sport, and so on.
    How can I do for next procedure.
    Thank you.

    What do you want to do next? You can create a DSMCCObject that refers to one of the files in your carousel, and use this to control the loading and caching of that file. To actually read a file, however, you will need to create a FileInputStream or RandomAccessFile that refers to that file. You can then use this like any other file access.
    This may help you:
    // create a new ServiceDomain object to represent
    // the carousel we will use
    ServiceDomain carousel = new ServiceDomain();
    // now create a Locator that refers to the service
    // that contains our carousel
    org.davic.net.Locator locator;
    locator = new org.davic.net.Locator
      ("dvb://123.456.789");
    // finally, attach the carousel to the ServiceDomain
    // object (i.e. mount it) so that we can actually
    // access the carousel.  In this case, we don't specify
    // the stream containing the carousel in the locator, so
    // we pass in the carousel ID as part of the attach
    // request
    carousel.attach(locator, 1);
    // we have to create our DSMCCObject with an absolute
    // path name, which means we need to get the mount point
    // for the service domain
    DSMCCObject dsmccObj;
    dsmccObj = new DSMCCObject(carousel.getMountPoint(),
      "graphics/image1.jpg");
    // now we create a FileInputStream instance to access
    // our DSM-CC object.  Alternatively, we could create
    // a RandomAccessFile instance if we wanted random
    // instead of sequential access to the file.
    FileInputStream inputStream;
    inputStream = new FileInputStream(dsmccObj);
    // we can now use the FileInputStream just like any
    // other FileInputStream
