How to have a generic typed column in a database table
Hi,
I have to create a table with one column which should be able to hold values of any data type. At runtime I will get values from different fields of different tables.
Any idea how to achieve thi as there is no generic data type available with ABAP which can store other types without loss of information.
Hi,
Try RAW(1 to 255 bytes) or RAWSTRING(more than 256 bytes) which are byte sequence. and should be ableto store any kind of data.
Or even LRAW but you need one extra field beforethis field for storing its length andwe cannot have more than 3 fields of this type in a table.

How to have SharePoint search custom columns in a custom list?
Hello,
How can have SharePoint search custom columns in a custom list? I have a custom list for a directory with names, department, title and phone numbers. Department and titles are not searchable with the search box for the list.
How can I make these 2 custom columns searchable?
Thanks
PaulAny text added to any property is searchable. If you have a Sales department search for "sales", but I think you are asking about doing a property search like "department=sales" or "department:sales".
2013 has a different way than 2007 and 2010 to create Managed Properties. You will need to create a Site Column and then a little configuration. The basic steps are:
Create a Site Column (as SP already has a Department column you will want to create one with a difference name such as CorpDept.)
Add the column to a list or library and add data. (won't be found otherwise)
Wait for the next content crawl. (or manually start a crawl)
Go to the tier where you want to define the managed property and go to the Schema page:
Central Admin, Search Service, Schema
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Search Schema (in the Site Collection Admin section)
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Schema (in the Search section)
Click Managed Properties and search for your column name. It might look like this: ows_q_TEXT_CorpDept.
Edit the Managed Property and give it a useful Alias, such as "CorpDept".
Test the search: CorpDept:Sales
Do a web search for "SharePoint 2013 Site Column Managed Properties" for examples.

Introduction
In SQL Server Reporting Services, we can define a mapping between the fields that are returned in the query to specific delivery options and to report parameters in a data-driven subscription.
For a report with a parameter (such as YEAR) that allow multiple values, when creating a data-driven subscription, how can we pass a record like below to show correct data (data for year 2012, 2013 and 2014).
EmailAddress Parameter
Comment
[email protected] 2012,2013,2014 NULL
In this article, I will demonstrate how to configure a Data Driven Subscription which get multi-value parameters from one column of a database table
Workaround
Generally, if we pass the “Parameter” column to report directly in the step 5 when creating data-driven subscription.
The value “2012,2013,2014” will be regarded as a single value, Reporting Services will use “2012,2013,2014” to filter data. However, there are no any records that YEAR filed equal to “2012,2013,2014”, and we will get an error when the subscription executed
on the log. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\LogFiles)
Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InvalidReportParameterException: Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'Name' is not a valid value.
This means that there is no such a value on parameter’s available value list, this is an invalid parameter value. If we change the parameter records like below.
EmailAddress Parameter Comment
[email protected] 2012 NULL
[email protected] 2013 NULL
[email protected] 2014 NULL
In this case, Reporting Services will generate 3 reports for one data-driven subscription. Each report for only one year which cannot fit the requirement obviously.
Currently, there is no a solution to solve this issue. The workaround for it is that create two report, one is used for view report for end users, another one is used for create data-driven subscription.
On the report that used create data-driven subscription, uncheck “Allow multiple values” option for the parameter, do not specify and available values and default values for this parameter. Then change the Filter
From
Expression:[ParameterName]
Operator :In
Value :[@ParameterName]
To
Expression:[ParameterName]
Operator :In
Value :Split(Parameters!ParameterName.Value,",")
In this case, we can specify a value like "2012,2013,2014" from database to the data-driven subscription.
Applies to
Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
Microsoft SQL Server 2012

Rest of the blocks don't seems to have any relation.
So you can check this code to see how internal table lt_str is built whose first 3 fields have data contained in Auftrag, and next 3 fields have Position data. The structure is flat, assuming that every Position record is related to preceding Auftrag.

How can I add a new column in compress partition table.
I have a compress partition table when I add a new column in that table it give me an error "ORA-22856: CANNOT ADD COLUMNS TO OBJECT TABLES". I had cretaed a table in this clause. How can I add a new column in compress partition table.
CREATE TABLE Employee
Empno Number,
Tr_Date Date
COMPRESS PARTITION BY RANGE (Tr_Date)
PARTITION FIRST Values LESS THAN (To_Date('01-JUL-2006','DD-MON-YYYY')),
PARTITION JUNK Values LESS THAN (MAXVALUE));
Note :
When I create table with this clause it will allow me to add a column.
CREATE TABLE Employee

Tr_Date Date
PARTITION BY RANGE (Tr_Date)
PARTITION FIRST Values LESS THAN (To_Date('01-JUL-2006','DD-MON-YYYY')),
PARTITION JUNK Values LESS THAN (MAXVALUE));
But for this I have to drop and recreate the table and I dont want this becaue my table is in online state i cannot take a risk. Please give me best solution.Hi Fahed,
I guess, you are using Oracle 9i Database Release 9.2.0.2 and the Table which you need to alter is in OLTP environment where data is usually inserted using regular inserts. As a result, these tables generally do not get much benefit from using table compression. Table compression works best on read-only tables that are loaded once but read many times. Tables used in data warehousing applications, for example, are great candidates for table compression.

Topic : When to Use Table Compression
Bug
Reference : http://dba.ipbhost.com/lofiversion/index.php/t147.html
BUG:<2421054>
Affects: RDBMS (9-A0)
NB: FIXED
Abstract: ENH: Allow ALTER TABLE to ADD/DROP columns for tables using COMPRESS feature
Details:
This is an enhancement to allow "ALTER TABLE" to ADD/DROP
columns for tables using the COMPRESS feature.
In 9i errors are reported for ADD/DROP but the text may
be misleading:
eg:
ADD column fails with "ORA-22856: cannot add columns to object tables"
DROP column fails with "ORA-12996: cannot drop system-generated virtual column"
Note that a table which was previously marked as compress which has
now been altered to NOCOMPRESS also signals such errors as the
underlying table could still contain COMPRESS format datablocks.
As of 10i ADD/SET UNUSED is allowed provided the ADD has no default value.

How do I get and set column attributes in a table or a treetable with Java?
Using 11.1.1.4.0
Hi,
How do I get and set column attributes in a table or a treetable with Java? For a simple example, say I have a table and want certain roles to see all columns (including address), and other roles can see only certain columns (no address). In a Java method, I want to test if a table's column visible attribute is true and if so, set it to false before rendering it.
Thanks in advance,
TroyHi,
this use case would be a perfect example for using seeded MDS customization. Instead of checking what users are allowed to see or not upon rendering time, you have a customization class and thus the framework doing this for you.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/31-mds-sample-169173.pdf
In this paper and sample, specific users see different layouts. It also contains a customization class that shows how this can leverage ADF Security

Update A Column In A Database Table.
I am unable to update a column in a database table.
For example; I have ten records in an EMP table without having any EMPNO. I want to UPDATE (insert) 10 different EMPNO in a table. How can I do it? All I know is that there are ten records in the table; this means that I cannot use a WHERE clause with different criteria for each row.
Thanks.Try something like this

How to have both Single and Mutilple Selection in a table?
Hi ,
I have a page with an advanced, there is a multiple selection for the table for deleting row. Now I want to have a single selection column for other purpose. But it does not seem that we can have both in a table.
If I implement SingleSelection myself by using OAMessageRadioButton, from dev guide, I need to programmatically assign radio btton all the same
name by calling setName() for each radio button and also assign an identifying value for each bean. I can radio for radio button, but how can I assign value for each radio button bean when they are in a table? Will it possible to use View Attribute of radio button bean property?
thanks
LeiLei, its possible to have both in ur table! You can add a single selection child to your table. Then u can add messagecheckbox as last column of table, which can be attached to a transient VO attribute.

WHERE table_name = 'EMP';
or
SELECT COUNT(1)

How to create an automatically increment column in Oracle DB Table?
Hi To All
Here I am trying to create a table in Oracle that creates an automatically increment column in Oracle DB Table. i searched almost all Forums.(Even in Oracle). They are saying that, that logic u must implement in Java Code.(*Takes Maximum no from table, add +1 to it, and store it back again)*. apart from this, while creating an table in Oracle, is there any facility like MySQL Database? please help me. Thanks in advance.Hi BalusC
Thanks for Your Response and clue. with that, i succeeded in my application. Thank you very much. here i am giving you the details which i did.
1. I Created a table named orders in Oracle like this.
CREATE TABLE ORDERS (ORDER_ID NUMBER, CUSTOMER_ID NUMBER, ISBN NUMBER,
DESCRIPTION NCHAR(5));
2. I created one sequence in Oracle like CREATE SEQUENCE SEQ01 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1000 3. Then i have written jdbc program like this
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
import java.sql.ResultSet;
public class SequenceTest {
public static void main(String[] args)throws Exception{
try {
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
Connection con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.1.135:1521:orcl","scott","tiger");
String cols[] = {"ORDER_ID", "DESCRIPTION"};
PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO ORDERS (ORDER_ID, CUSTOMER_ID, ISBN,DESCRIPTION) VALUES (SEQ01.NEXTVAL, 104, 966431505,?)", cols);
pstmt.setString(1,"Desc3");
pstmt.executeUpdate();
ResultSet rs=pstmt.getGeneratedKeys();
System.out.println("---- One Row Inserted ----");
} catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("---- Failed Due To "+e);
4. When i ran above program 5 times, i got the following Data into my Oracle Table (select * from orders)
ORDER_ID CUSTOMER_ID ISBN DESCR
1000 101 966431502 Desc0
1001 102 966431503 Desc1
1002 103 966431504 Desc2
1003 104 966431505 Desc3
1004 104 966431505 Desc3
1005 105 966431506 Desc4
6 rows selected.
But i dont know how to do this type of program with out using prepared statements. i tried, and i got exception *"Missing Expression"* .
Once again Thank You very much for your clue. -
