How to hide file in Dolphin?

Hello!
How I can hide files on the file manager Dolphin?
On Ubuntu I just created a file .hidden in which I inserted the names of the files and folders which I want to hide?

And that's not that easy. The KDE file managers don't respect the .hidden file and it's obviously not planned to change this, check out this bug report (you might wanna try the patch mentioned in the last comment).
Just to make it clear: This is obviously no distro-related problem, but a matter of file managers, and looks like KDE decided to not respect it - you might want to try another file manager, like thunar or pcmanfm; maybe even qtfm respects .hidden.

  • How to Hide File Extensions in URL

    Hello Again!
    I've tried to edit my .htaccess file to hide file extensions in my URL, but nothing I try works. I get "Page Not Found" when I try to remove the .html from my pages. Here is the code I have used:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html !-f
    RewriteRule ^{.*}$ $1.html
    I've also used
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^{.*}$ $1.html [L,QSA]
    Neither worked.
    Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks!
    K

    When you save the document there is a check box in the save window that gives you the option to hide the extension. I've checked this for both Pages & Word. I can't be certain that all applications give this option.
    You can of course delete the extension name from individual files already on your computer by selecting the file name as if editing the name and just deleting the extension part of the name.

  • How to hide files on NTFS

    Hi everyone,
    I have the following problem:
    The situation: An Air, tripleboot (10.9 with ntfs-3g, so full NTFS r/w + Ubuntu + Win7), with an additional 4th partition which holds a folder for the desktop (let's call it "desktop-data"). All systems use this folder "desktop-data" for desktop, 10.9 through a symlink. I have a .hidden file in the folder, so under Ubuntu the Windows shortcuts are not visible, and the .hidden file is hidden under Windows through Windows attributes. Logically, the .hidden file does not show up in 10.9 either, but the Windows shortcuts and .ini-s are.
    And that is the problem: how do I hide these files whitout renaming them? Creating a /.hidden file under 10.9 does not help (it helps for files on the HFS+ partition, but not for the ones on the NTFS, which is quite stupid imho), changing the flags through "chflags" in the Terminal does not help.
    Any ideas?

    interesting elie7....i always thought that the easiest way to hide things on your phone was to put it back in your pocket! lol.

    for those that need the application installed and have the EXTRAS-DEVEL and EXTRAS-TESTING.

    how to set this file (i write file) become hidden

    thxon solaris and linux platform, filesnames starting with '.' are hidden files.
    in case of windows platform, you will have to set the hidden attribute of the
    file by using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("attrib +H "+file.getName());

  • How to hide file extension on finders symbolic view?

    When I switch the finder's view to symbolic the files view turns to an icon or minimized first page of the file's content. In some cases the file extension is displayed at the bottom of this symbol. E.g. files of type PDF always show the 3 letters PDF at the bottom of the small preview image. Files of type PKG don't show it.
    Is there a way to change this behaviour? Changing it in the finder's prefrences only affects hiding or showing the file extension in list view.
    Thanks for any advice!

    I tried it and it didn't look like it took effect. I switched folders and cam back to the first one I looked at and the extensions were showing.
    It may just need time to redraw the view.

  • Hide files n folders

    Plz help me by telling how to hide files n folders n how to view hidden ones.

    To show hidden files and folder, open a terminal and type:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder
    This will kill your Finder and reopen it (restart Finder) and now you will be able to see all hidden files and folder.
    To hide (hidden folders and files), type the following in the terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    killall Finder
    If you want to create a hidden file or folder since Mac OSX is a unix based OS, then just open a terminal and create a file/folder that has '.' at the beginning of its name. For example to create a hidden Secret folder in your Desktop, do the following:
    Open Terminal
    cd Desktop
    mkdir .Secret

  • How can I hide file names in a photostream?

    How can I hide file names in a shared photo stream on icloud.  I don't want people to see how many pictures I take at an event.  Can this be done to pictures already posted?

    The Shared Photo Stream uses the filename of the original image file as the title that is shown in the stream.  If you want to hide the original filename, export the image to a folder in the Finder, rename it, then reimport it to share it.  You can rename the files directly when exporting.
    Or, if you do not mind to change the names of the originals in Aperture use the command "Metadata > Batch change" and change the title of the image, with the option "Apply to Original file" enabled and "Add metadata from" set to "None".
    To rename the photos already shared, delete them from the Shared Album and share them again.

  • How to hide items on Windows 8 File Explorer Ribbon

    Scenario
    This article describes how to hide items on the file explorer ribbon in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
    Method
    We can implement it via customizing the permission of the related registry keys.
    Note: Before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey.
    Before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you
    export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey.
    Step 1:
    Open
    Registry Editor and locate to following registry key under which you can find the corresponding keys of the items on the File Explorer Ribbon.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\
    In the following figure, it shows the Add a network location item on the file explorer ribbon, and the corresponding
    registry key in Registry Editor.
    Step 2:
    Take ownership of the registry key
    Note: You can take ownership
    of a registry key if you are logged on as an administrator or if you have been specifically assigned the permission to take ownership of the registry key by the current owner.
    Right-click on the registry key which you want to take ownership of,
    and then select
    Permissions... option.
    Click on
    Advanced button to grant special permissions in the key.
    At the top to the right of the current
    Owner, click on the Change link.
    Enter
    Administrator in the Enter the object name to select
    box, and then click on Check Names.
    Click on
    OK twice to apply.
    Step 3:
    Change the permission of the registry key.
    On
    Permissions for the key name display dialog, click
    Administrators in the Group or user names window, and then select the
    Allow check box for

    option.
    Click
    Users in the Group or user names window, and then select the
    Deny
    check box for
    Full Control
    option.
    Step 4:
    Click on
    Apply and OK to save the changes and the following figure shows the modified permissions and owner.
    Step 5:
    When you open File Explorer, the item you would like to hide disappears. For your information, the following is an example:
    Item: Add a network location
    Corresponding Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\Windows.AddNetworkLocation
    For advanced users
    You can also deploy script with Set-Acl which is a PowerShell command to take ownership and change permissions

    The reason they gave was it is possible for the file to stay open when done with the file. (not properly closing) As the driver would be accessing the file to retrieve the thumbnail.
    The thing is a driver is nothing more than a program it self. Therefore it is capable of opening and closing a file and placing the thumbnail into the database for that folder. It then would be capable to verify if the thumbnail exists in that database. Since the driver only has to run when explorer is open in that folder's view, it really is not running that often.
    The catch I can see it when both Illustrator and explorer are running at the same time. Which one should close the file? The solution would be a small app that verifies that both programs are running and has control of clean up when both have closed. The driver and Illustrator could also in theory check and see if the other is running, if it is do nothing if not then close the file.
    So it really boils down to having the driver and Illustrator talking to each other.

  • How to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
    The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).

  • How-to hide the portal file shares on Windows

    Hi,
    Does anybody know how to hide the default file shares created by SAP NW 04 in windows?
    In other words: what I'm trying to accomplish is renaming the sapmnt share and saploc share (both on the E:\usr\sap\ folder) to sapmnt$ and saploc$.
    I know how to do the Windows part, but where and how do I configure the SAP Web AS part?
    Regards,
    Steven Dijkman

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for all the feedback.  However, this still does not fully work.
    I tried hiding the folder but it in fact only hides the folder, not the share itself. I'm trying to do the opposite, hiding the share (making it an administrative one) whilst not hiding the folder. With the folder hidden, the startup framework (NW 04 EP6 SP12) does not work.
    By the way: checking / tightening access is not an option: security architects dictate what needs to happen here and unless I have VERY good reasons I should comply to what they say: change saploc to saploc$ and change sapmnt to sapmnt$.
    If anybody has anymore thoughts, I'd be very interested.
    Cheers,
    Steven Dijkman

  • How can I hide files on an external drive?

    Hello.
    I'm not sure if my subject line is even accurate for what I'm trying to do. Basically, I have 2 external hard drives connected to my MacBook Pro. On one drive, I have about 65 GB of audio files that I use for my music work. On the other drive, I would like to have those files backed up, but I don't want OS X to try to use the files from that drive. Is there a way I can lock them so they're there only as a backup?
    Thanks you!

    Hi,
    The only easy way I have found to hide files on my Mac is to use a widget called "Abracadabra". It basically adds a "." to the front of a file or folder name to hide it.
    That may not be what you are looking for.
    What are you using to back up your audio files? Carbon Copy Cloner or similar? If you have your Volume name for the backup drive named accordingly, you shouldn't have any issues. I have a few folders I back up to a volume I call "Audio Backups". These are just VST's I really don't want to reinstall if I have a failure. I run CCC every time the VST's get an update. Logic always uses the original copy though.
    I guess I don't understand why you feel you need to "hide" the back-up.
    The other option is to use Time Machine I guess if you are on Leopard.

  • Question on how to Hide the User Name, Password, and Domain fields in the MDT Wizard

    MDT 2012 U1
    Deploying Windows 7 via Offline Media (ISO) to MS Virtual PC's
    I am looking on how to Hide the User Name, Password, and Domain fields which are prepopulated in the MDT wizard via the CS.ini (Not so concerned about the Domain field as I am User Name and Password)
    We do need the Computer Name and OU fields to be seen, so skipping the wizard is not a option
    The client just does not want these fields to be seen by the end users, they dont want them to even know the account name used for adding the machine to the domain, of course the password is not displayed but it must not be displayed either.
    But since we use the fields they must still  be fuctional just not seen.
    Thanks.....

    You shouldn't have to edit DeployWiz_Definition_ENU.xml. You should only need to add "SkipAdminPassword=YES" to the CS.ini file and your authentication information.
    Example:
    [Settings]
    Priority=Default
    Properties=MyCustomProperty
    [Default]
    OSInstall=Y
    SkipCapture=NO
    SkipAdminPassword=YES
    UserID=<MyUserID>
    UserPassword=<MyPassword>
    UserDomain=<MyDomain.com>
    SkipProductKey=NO
    SkipComputerBackup=YES
    SkipBitLocker=NO
    -Nick O.
    Nick,
    SkipAdminPassword=YES is for:
    You can skip the Administrator Password wizard page by using this property in the
    customsettings.ini.
    I am hidding the Username/Password/and domain field in the computer name Wizard pane which is read from the cs.iniDomainAdmin=xxxxx
    DomainAdminPassword=xxxxx
    DomainAdminDomain=xxxxxx
    JoinDomain=xxxxxx
