How to I get a transparent background in CS4 ?

I have a Mac computer and am following Lynda.com's tutorials, but I haven't been able to find anything about how to clear the background of a photo so that I can give it another background.  Could anybody help me?

Ok.
Open image > select the background layer > Right click and duplicate layer > reselect the background layer and delete it by clicking on the bin at the bottom of the pallet. Now your image is as a layer. if you select the eraser tool then select brush from the mode dropdown option at the top of the screen then you can change the size of the brush either by the short keys "[=smaller or ]=larger" or by using the brush sizing tool then you can erase a way! let me know if that helps?

How do I get a transparent background on the down level stage?

I haven't tested this, but in your xxx_edge.js file, it looks like the stage background color is set here:
    states: {
          "Base State": {
             "${_Stage}": [
                ["color", "background-color", 'rgba(255,255,255,1)'],
                ["style", "overflow", 'hidden'],
                ["style", "height", '400px'],
                ["style", "width", '550px']
Try changing the last value in the rgba value from 1 to 0.

but I need the file in png or jpg.
I have to upload this image and there is no other data type possible. :/
that I need png or jpg.
And of course. By every change of the saving options, I tried how it looks when its uploaded.
But every time it doesn't look like it should be.
That is the reason why I wrote my questions in this forum.

  • How do I get a transparent background behind a graphic?

I haven't worked in Indesign in two years, and forgot a lot, but I'm getting up to speed for a new job.  While, I'm designing collateral, I need to get clip art and graphics placed in the document, but everything is coming in with the dreaded white box behind it, and I can't find a quick way to delete it or make the background transparent.  I don't work in Photoshop, and I don't have time to work this one out.  I used to send images to my service bureau or the printer to fix this, but now with budget cuts, I have to do this myself.  After all these years, isn't there an easy way to get the image to be transparent in InDesign?
    Thanks so much.

This really hasn't changed in recent versions of InDesign. There is a very rudimentary way of dropping out backgrounds which only works if you have an image on a white or very light background called Detect Edges. Choose View > High Quality Display. Select the image, then choose Object > Clipping Path > Detect Edges.
You adjust the Treshold setting and Tolerance setting to try to select the best result. The best result isn't of professional quality. It might work for a quick comp.
Basically, you need to learn to do it in Photoshop. You need to use Photoshop methods to select the background and delete it to create an image with transparency which you can place in InDesign. Or you need to use the older methods of creating a Clipping Path or an Alpha Channel. Then you can select those options in Object > Clipping Path.

  • Live Type  How do you get a transparent background?

Im trying to create just text for FCP using Live Type, but no matter what I do when I export the Live Type movie, Its exporting with a black background. I went into the settings and changed everything around and tried everything. Opacity levels, render background, etc.. I either get the color I choose or black when it should be transparent. I know there has to be a way to just creat text with no background. Much help needed!

When you render your movie, make sure you don't have the "render background" box checked.
Once your movie is rendered it is displayed with text over a black backgournd but rest assured when you put your rendered .mov text into Final Cut it will have an alpha channel and not a black background.

  • How do i make a transparent background in Photoshop Elements 13

how do i make a transparent background in Photoshop Elements 13

    Open the picture file
Use one of the selection tools to select the foreground
Place the selection on its own layer (Layer>New>Layer via copy or CTRL+J) - this will be Layer 1
    Delete the background layer
If you want to save it, use a file format which supports transparency, e.g.PNG

  • How do you create a transparent background in AE

Hi--I'm using AE CS5 on a MacBook Pro and I'm brand new to using AE.
How do you create a transparent background?
I need it because I'm creating a shatter effect on a photo and want to import the AE movie into FCP and have it play on one layer while beneath it  another image will be seen when the shatter effect takes place.
    He'p me, cap'n!
    Thanks!

Hey Guys, thanks for your replys!!
Wow, there's a lot to check out there--great!
I hope I'm on the right track, I just watched the video about preserving transparency and maybe I'm stupid, maybe cause I'm new, but I just want to be sure I'm on the right track. Sorry if my question was confusing, maybe cause I am a bit new.
To reiterate: I want to export a short AE movie of a shatter glass effect on a picture. The background needs to be transparent because I will import the AE movie into FCP and place it as the top layer. On a layer beneath it will be video I want to seen as the shatter glass effect creates a 'hole'.
I believe this url tells me how to do that: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/930588
    Thanks again!

  • How do I set a transparent background to a div in Internet Explorer 8?

    Hello,
I'm using a jQuery slider for a simple text slideshow on a homepage. The slideshow and each slide (div) have no background. When the site is viewed in Internet Explorer 8, each slide has a white background. I'm using the following IE fallbacks which according to many sources should work...
    #slideText div {
              background: rgb(0, 0, 0) transparent; /* default fallback */
              background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); /* nice browsers */
              filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#33000000, endColorstr=#33000000); /* IE 6/7 */
              -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#33000000, endColorstr=#33000000)"; /* IE8 */
The div's background is affected with a 20% black background but it's still over a white background. How can I get rid of this white background?
Eventually I would like this to have no background but I'm using this 20% transparency for testing. You can view the live site here: http://www.pmi.tv.
    Thank you much in advance!

Older IE browsers do not support CSS level 3 rgba colors with opacity.
MS Filters cause other undesired side effects.  I don't use them.
If you must support IE8, use a semi-transparent PNG image for your background.

  • How do I get a tranparent background?

I have some black text on white background. Just like what you are seeing right here in this post.
I'd like to drag the text over some photos. How do I get rid of the white background so I do this? Thanks!

If the text is merged into the white background, you would have to use Mylenium's method.
If it is like that, personally I would type the text again in a new file.
If you want to copy the same text, for example a logotype, on to several images I would create an action to do it.

Are you exporting as a PNG or exporting as a JPG?
JPG doesn't support transparency so you'll have to export as a PNG and check the Transparency box.

  • How to export pdf with transparent background (or NO white background)?

or, how do i get rid of the white background?
I want to add a watermark behind the pages document AFTER pdf-creation (to be more exact: a light picture behind the text in the center of the page)

    Thanks everyone
the trick is the following: it's a daily rewritten menu card, that's published in 2 directions:
    1. we print it on preprinted cardbords (therefore we need no background in the pages document) (30 times every day)
    2. we load it on the webserver, to make it available on the website and to send it out via newsletter. (technically i have a automator printplugin created which does the job of inserting the same backgroundimage as on the preprinted cards and then uploading it to the server)
Well, I guess it does not look to shabby
    any ideas?

  • In Adobe Elements, how do I get rid of background noise in my audio?

I just bought a USB microphone to help with my narrations on adobe elements. How do i get rid of the feedback and the echoing noises in the background of my audio?

    supersam9
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Classically USB microphones do not work with Premiere Elements (any version) for use with its Narration Tool. Have you found otherwise?
Where is the noise - in narration clips produced by the Narration Tool or from imported audio files added to numbered Audio Tracks and/or soundtrack?
From what you wrote, it appears that the audio noises are confined to the narration being produced with your microphone and Premiere Elements Narration Tool. Is that correct?
Under fx Effects there are audio effects that you can explore to reduce noise. See Reference Effects Adobe document for a description of the fx Effects audio effects.
Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Effects reference
If you use the same microphone and create your narration in Audacity and import that narration into a Premiere Elements project, do you get noise in your narration?
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Besides making sure that your microphone is compatible with Premiere Elements, have you evaluated your narration recording techniques...how close are you to the microphone, room noise level while recording, etc.

  • How to insert image with transparent background?

I have several logos saved at .GIFs with transparent backgrounds that I would like to import into my dashboard, but it seems that the image component only supports JPEG.  Is there a way to import images while maintaining their transparency?

Well, you CAN insert GIFs or other image formats.  But I have yet to figure out a way to take a GIF with a transparent background and import it into my Xcelsius while preserving the transparency.  The transparent background always just defaults to white.
This is a crucial feature as I have some logos I want to use that are circular.  But if I can't give them a transparent background, it drastically limits their placement options.
I know that flash does support transparency, so am I missing something here?

I am editing video so I can embed it into a web page and I want to maintain a transparent background when I convert the video. When I convert now it is putting in a black background automatically. I know it's probably an ez fix, please help!

Rendering prior to export will create a black background, I believe.
That is typically true. The key workaround is to switch the Compressor value in your Sequence Settings to Animation then, in the Advanced Settings, alter Depth to Millions of Colors+.
Now when you render, you'll render out with an alpha channel. This way, you can export reference movies via File > Export > QT Movie, using Current Settings and import your FCP-created movie into AE, Motion, LiveType, etc on your same system and be able to maintain your alpha.
I add this only because depending on the workflow, it's sometimes more efficient to render in FCP.
