How to insert a page dynamically into a form

Good Morning,
We've used LiveCycle to create a very intricate work order for our service company. Although most work orders we create don't need additional documents (aside from the form itself), some do. For example, we may want to add a PDF coversheet to work orders for certain commercial accounts that have special billing instructions. At this time we will add pages to an existing work order through the following process:
Enter all data into the LiveCycle form
Print the form to PDF and save
Use the "Insert Page" feature to add the necessary page (these pages are templated for continuous use)
Resave the document
My goal is to find a solution that would allow the user to dynamically select/add the necessary pages to the work order during step one (entering data into the form). Then, when we print the work order to PDF the printed copy would include both the work order and whatever page was added. I hope my explanation makes sense. Is this possible in LiveCycle?

If your form is a dynamic PDF then adding or removing pages is not going to happen within Adobe Acrobat Pro or Reader. I am pretty sure you can only modify the layout of an XFA Livecycle PDF within Livecycle. However what I have done in the past is add in the necessary pages that a user may want, hide the pages from the layout and then with a button click or some other type of control, show the pages. Hope I am understanding you right.

Open your files & show thumbnails. Sections have a yellow border around all of the pages in that section. Now click on the page in the thumbnail pane & copy. If the file is more than one page & you only want one, you'll need to insert a section break to separate the pages. Then go to your other file, click in the thumbnail pane & paste. The whole copied page will be pasted in. Repeat with another section. Styles will copy over with the sections but headers & footers will not.

Firstly you need a multi part form data (if you are using a web page). If you are not using a web page ignore this bit.

To insert a page-break you have to Create a Node Called COMMAND.
Here you can Specify a Different PAGE as next page if u want.
Smartforms: protect lines in main window.
It was easy with SAPscript, but how to do it with SF's. For 4.7 version if you are using tables, there are two options for protection against line break:
- You can protect a line type against page break.
- You can protect several table lines against page break for output in the main area.
Protection against page break for line types
- Double-click on your table node and choose the Table tab page.
- Switch to the detail view by choosing the Details pushbutton.
- Set the Protection against page break checkbox in the table for the relevant line type. Table lines that use this line type are output on one page.
Protection against page break for several table lines
- Expand the main area of your table node in the navigation tree.
- Insert a file node for the table lines to be protected in the main area.
- If you have already created table lines in the main area, you can put the lines that you want to protect again page break under the file using Drag&Drop. Otherwise, create the table lines as subnodes of the file.
- Choose the Output Options tab page of the file node and set the Page Protection option. All table lines that are in the file with the Page Protection option set are output on one page.
In 4.6, Alternatively in a paragraph format use the Page protection attribute to determine whether or not to display a paragraph completely on one page. Mark it if you want to avoid that a paragraph is split up by a page break. If on the current page (only in the main window) there is not enough space left for the paragraph, the entire paragraph appears on the next page.

I think <?split-by-page-break?> syntax is used in a loop. In my case i need to check the condition.. if its true i need to insert Page break.
I have requirement Like as follows
- In the Invoice Print Report I need to display “Invoice Appendix” On the Last Page of an Invoice.
- If I am running for multiple Invoices then Invoice Appendix should print on last page of each Invoice.
As I'm using XMLP 5.6.1, i'm unable to use <?start@last-page:body?> syntax. So i'm trying to achive this as i'm explaing below.

Hi Niraj,
You can get your work done by keeping the horizontal line (&ULINE&) after all the item level fields, in this case once each item line is written you will get a horizontal line.
In case you have different fields for the item lines which are optional (not printed every time) then you can have them in an IF....ENDIF condition and below the endif use a horizontal line.
Some thing like this:

IL <TI>Item,,Material,,Description</>
IP <TI>,,,,Quantity,,,,Price,,Price unit,,,,,,Value</>

Hi PhilipFG and FoxFifth,
I've been using the same process Pages > PDF > iPhoto. However, when it gets to iPhoto there's a lot of waiting around time for it to allow me to do anything i.e. cropping, enhancing. The little coloured ball is just turning and turning. It's not happy to be there! There is a big difference (it appears) in the resolution when it ends up in iPhoto using this process. The images have shadows. My business partner has an older Mac and can export directly to iPhoto from Pages without having to create a PDF first. Perhaps this is just an option on the older one but she now can't open the pages file I send to her either. Besides the fact that she clearly needs a new Mac...has anyone any further updates on what else can be done to export directly to iPhoto? TIA

I have found 2 APIs
AIDocumentViewSuite::ArtworkPointToViewPoint( ) and
AIDocumentViewSuite::ViewPointToArtworkPoint( )
but I dont know what is view point and art work point.
I think artwork point = page points and view points = document points. am I correct ???

What do you mean by 'document points'? Do you mean document units? Like centimeters or inches? If that, there's no API to do (well, kind of in AIUser.h, but that gives you back a string with a unit suffix). Frankly, its pretty easy to just figure out the conversion values for each type of ruler unit -- there are only five or so you need -- and then write a dinky function that takes a value in one or the other, looks up the current document unit and uses that to convert the value (one function for each way). You just need to figure out everything in terms of points (since pixels == points) -- in that regard, it probably helps to know that 72 pt == 1 inch. From that you can figure out pointer-per-inch|centimeter|millimeter|pica.

I am trying to insert a Node built from a String to a DOM.
Here is how I created the Node

Here is how I created the DOM

1) document.importNode( DetailNode, true );
No exception was thrown. But when I transformed the DOM document back to a String, I could not see the information from the newly imported Node DetailNode.
When I tried
          grpE.insertBefore( BiometricDetailNode, dataE );
I got the following exception.
     org.w3c.dom.DOMException: WRONG_DOCUMENT_ERR: A node is used in a different document than the one that created it.

Said another way, importNode actually only makes and returns a copy of the node you gave it (it will be a deep copy only if you pased true as the second parameter), but where the new dom you called import on is owner.
So what you need to do is more like this:
Node tempNode = domYouAreAddingTheNodeTo.importNode(node2copy,true); //true if you want a deep copy
domYouAreAddingTheNodeTo.appendNode(tempNode);You can also traverse to any point in the DOM and insert the node there with the same method, but you always have to import first so that the DOM has a copy of the node that it owns.

The submit button is included automatically. If you are distributing your form as HTML you can use the Test tab to preview your form. If you are distributing your form as PDF, you would need to generate the PDF to see the submit button.
