    Hi,
Server type is normally "Database Engine". You can use the Dev. Studio to connect to various other types (e.g. Reporting Services, Analysis Service etc.)
The Servername is the instance name you want to connect to. For a default instance it is your machinename, for a named instance it is Machinename\Instancename.
Authentication can be Windows Authentication if you are logged on as a local Admin. For an ABAP System only Windows Authentication is possible, for a JAVA System the SQL authentication is necessary, so that you can logon as 'sa' with the password you provided in the setup.

  • How to use SQL*loader in oracle9i???

    Hi,
I have installed oracle9i, and want to use sql*loader to load text data into table.
However, I can not find a tool called SQL*loader anywhere on the manu.
It will be appreciated if some experts can give me an advice where I can find it, and how to use it to load text data.
    Thanks.
    Chuck

When I go to tahiti.oracle.com and search on "external table", I get dozens of hits that explain how to create an external table and give numerous examples. If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to try to go into more detail. A generic SQL*Loader guide, however, would be well bayond the scope of this forum.

  • Installing SQL LOADER

    hi there,
I need to install only SQL LOADER from oracle 9i Enterprise edition software. How it is possible?
    Please tell me the steps...

SQL*loader is implicitly installed when you performed the enterprise edition installation.
It is not even required to be an enterprise edition for it to be installed, it can be installed from any Oracle Edition (rdbms install), as well as from the client.
If you are not able to find the sql*loader executable:
    # make sure your PATH environment variable includes the ORACLE_HOME\bin ORACLE_HOME is the directory where Oracle was installed.
    # Executable is sqlldr.exe

So, I can reproduce this problem.
By default windows have not .Net 3.5 installed, but SQL Server tools need it.
When I run sql setup on fresh windows it started normally.
If run .net setup when sql setup already running it's OK.
But if you exist from sql setup (or not run it) and install .net in Windows Components it's impossible to run SQL setup.

  • How to call sql loader ctrl file with in the pl/sql procedure

    Hi Friends,
I am doing a project related with the transferring data using queues. In the queue , I will get a tab delimited data in the form of CLOB variable/message. I do want to store that dat in the oracle table.
When updating data into the table ,
    1. Don't want to write that data into a file.( Want to access directly after dequeueing from the specfic queue).
    2. As the data is in tab delimited form, I want to use sql loader concept.
How do I call the sql loader ctrl file with in my pl/sql procedure. When I searched , most of the forums recommending external procedure or Java program.
Please Guide me on this issue. my preferrence is pl sql, But don't know about external procedure . If no other way , I will try Java.
    I am using oracle 9.2.0.8.0.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vimal..

Neither SQL*Loader nor external tables are designed to read data from a CLOB stored in the database. They both work on files stored on the file system. If you don't want the data to be written to a file, you're going to have to roll your own parsing code. This is certainly possible. But it is going to be far less efficient than either SQL*Loader or external tables. And it's likely to involve quite a bit more code.
The simplest possible thing that could work would be to use something like Tom Kyte's string tokenization package to read a line from the CLOB, break it into the component pieces, and then store the different tokens in a meaningful collection (i.e. an object type or a record type that corresponds to the table definition). Of course, you'll need to handle things like converting strings to numbers or dates, rejecting rows, writing log files, etc.

  • How to install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X?

How do I install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X? I downloaded the file "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx.gz" from OTN, but there is only a single file inside this archive - "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx". What am I missing here?
    Thanks in advance...

Extract that file and then run it.
Once you installed the tool to your Applications folder (if you choose to move it to Applications), you'll need to install Java (maybe).
What version of OS X are you on?
In a command window/terminal, type 'java -version'
If you get something back like 'java version "1.6..." then you're all good.
If you're on Mountain Lion, then type 'java' instead. That should download java for you.
Once you've got java available, then launch SQL Developer Data Modeler.
The installation notes are here if you want the official list of instructions

  • How to install SQL in an existing Azure VM?

    Hi,
I have deployed an Azure VM, with a base operating system. Now I wish to install SQL Server on it, but cant find any proper how-to guide. This link to "SQL Server Deployment in Azure
Virtual Machines" no longer works: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn133141.aspx (it is a link from this root page: https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/azure/jj823132.aspx)
Most of the other URLs point at installing a SQL VM from scratch, not about adding SQL to an existing Azure VM. Is this true?
    Thanks,
    SK

    Hi Shim,
Yes, the guide is all about  creating a SQL Server virtual machine in Azure. eg:- SQL server 2014 RTM enterprise. This image contains the full version of SQL server . The platform provided SQL Server virtual machine image.
With SQL Server in Azure Virtual Machines, you can still use the same development and administration tools that are available on-premises. In addition, you can provision or deprovision virtual machines to achieve elasticity on demand and connect them
to your on-premises infrastructure by using
    Azure Virtual Network.
