How to key out black background - scrolling text

Hi, I have created scrolling text for credits at the end of my movie. How do I key out the black background to use as an overlay? Am I missing a setting? Thanks.

hmm ... if you save this motion project and import it into final cut pro, it'll be transparent.
maybe i don't understand what you mean.
you don't export a movie from motion, you save the file and the rendering is then handled by FCP.

  • How to fade out lines of scrolling Text as they reach top of screen

    Hello,
What I require is scrolling text (full screen width) & the ability to make the lines of text fadeout as they reach the top of the screen. Making the scrolling text fade out as it reaches the top of the screen is easy with Final Cut Express & I think makes for a more polished presentation instead of the text scrolling off the top of the screen.
I have tried using “feather” in the Mask effect in Final Cut Pro x but I cannot make the top line of full screen scrolling text fade. Is there any way to achieve this effect in Final Cut Pro x ?
    Thanks, JohnH

Hello Luis Sequeira1 Thanks for your reply,
As you can see Karsten Schlüter replied to an earlier request from me regarding the same subject & yes it is possible to obtain the fade effect using “feather” in the Mask effect. However I’m surprised that there is not an easier way to fade out the top line of scrolling text. I was hoping someone would have a quicker way of achieving the effect – It’s so quick with Final Cut Express. Either my iMac is not up to running Final Cut Pro x (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) or the Final Cut Pro X Trial version is different to the full version (Apple says both versions are the same) I find it hard to believe that an effect that is so easy in Final Cut Express is so difficult to achieve in the supposedly all singing & dancing Final Cut Pro x.

  • Keying out black in FCP?

I received footage from a client-- an actor dancing in front of a solid black background. The client wants to know if it is possible to "key out" the black and replace with other footage. Is there any way to do this this without heavy lifting in some sort of outside compositing application?
I know for green screen type of work you are supposed to shoot your character in front of a color that is not in the foreground (hence the name green screen)... but they didn't do this. There is black in the actor's hair, skin, clothes, etc so if I were to key out black the actor will get very "ghost-y."
Are there any possible solutions I am missing?
    Thanks!

Use the Luma key filter and see how you get along with that.
Similar to a chroma (color) key, except that a luma key creates a matte based on the brightest or darkest areas of an image. Keying out a luminance value works best when your clip has a large
discrepancy in exposure between the bright or dark areas in the frame that you want to key out, and the foreground images you want to preserve.
A View pop-up menu allows you to look at the source of the clip (with no key applied), the matte created by the filter, the final matted image, or a special composite of the source, matte, and
final image for reference. A Key Mode pop-up menu allows you to specify whether this filter keys out brighter, darker, similar, or dissimilar areas of the image. A Matte pop-up menu lets you create
either alpha channel information for that clip, or a high-contrast matte image applied to the color channels of your clip, based on the matte created by this filter.
You can combine several instances of the Luma key filter to try and patch any holes. Otherwise you will have to generate a matte and retouch it in an application which will allow you to paint on the frames, such as Shake or Motion.

  • How do i key out the background only in fcpx

I can keyout the background, but my subject has a green button that turns gold/yellow. I need this button to stay green. How do I key out only the background while leaving my subject normal?

In general, this happens when the alpha matte is slightly larger than the logo you want to key. That causes a bit of the background to show through in the key. The solution is to either shrink the alpha, or expand the logo.
Sometimes the alpha matte is fringed with grey, and if you change the grey to black (or white, depending on which is not the matte color), it'll fix this. But all that is situation dependent and I'm not saying there should not be grey pixels in an alpha channel ever. If you're creating a glow behind a title or a logo, you'll have greyscale pixels fringing the objects and the RGB background color will determine the glow color. (But I'm wandering aimlessly off topic, so I'll shut now.)

  • How to create a black and white text clip?

I'm using pro Cs4 and was wondering how do I create a black and white text clip?  When I used Vegas there was a clip I could put in, and simply write whatever I needed.
Still getting used to Pro Cs4 and was wondering if anybody can help me.
    Thanks!

Do you wish to have a black field w/ white text, over part of an existing Video Clip, or do you want just a black field w/ white text and not have any Video showing through?
For the latter, just do a Title in Titler, w/ white text, and place that on the Timeline.
For the former, let us know the exact details, as that is slightly different.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] as a little background, when in Titler, you will see a "black" background, but that is really Transparent. However, if placed on the Timeline, with nothing below it, it will show black.

  • Subjects are grainy and have less resolution when I key out green background

After I have chosen the color of the green screen to key out and adjusted my 'clip black' and 'clip white' setting, I am still finding that my subjects are grainy and have lost some resolution.  Any suggestion on how to fix this?

    Hi,
Another tip, is to not allow Keylight to do a "final result" output, rather set it to do a "intermediate result". I dont know if this is a best practice, but I find that AE does some pretty hectic colour correction if allowed to do its own thing. Once I get an intermediate result, I usually add a copy of the "Spill Suppressor" effect.
I find that the final result adds a lot of edge crawl to the key I am pulling (although I am aware that I am still working at getting the correct balance to Screen lighting and Talent lighting)

  • PDF to Word black background in Text blocks

I converted a pdf flyer to Word for editing date and location of an event. Three of the blocks of text that I wasn't going to change looked like  they were in text blocks with black backgrounds. I was unable to change the black blocks and had to do a color fill to cover the blocks. It was frustrating and not completely effective. Why did this happen? What is the resolution ? I anticipate converting many such flyers with new dates and times and I do not appreciate this glitch in the conversion process. What is my next step?

Disabling OCR made no difference. Black boxes are still there. Though many of the pieces of the document can be ungrouped, the black boxes cannot - so they remain uneditable.
Perhaps seeing what I am attempting to explain may help...
First the Original, then the conversion.
    Above is the original.

  • How can I access black background in Airtight Simpleviewer in LR3?

Airtight Simpleviewer indicates it is using black background

Preview in your browser. The background displays

I'm not sure about IE7, but I think it's OK there.

  • Enforcing black background / white text on websites

GOAL: Have consistent web browsing experience with generally dark-colors, without white-flashes. Minor bugs and quirks are fine.
Is there anybody who has tried to achieve this? Any success? What software do you use?
I currently use chromium with Deluminate extension. Resulting colors are good, however, white flashes occur when clicking links (etc) and it's killing me. I would switch browser without hesitation if there was a way to do this nicely. Any help/advice/tips?

I have similar question not for web browser but the os. I use zion (reversed) colour sheme (system settings > apps looks or how it is named in english > colour > zion (reversed), i changed two options because on white screen text was black and window was black so i was not able to see antyhing that i typed in. Now i have black window with red fonts and it works, but on some occasion not all webistes work that well and sometimes i have websites that are white, and fonts when typing are still not visible because of colour scheme.
1 - webpage that does not allow me to see what i type in because text is black and window is black
2 - the same webpage, text is only visible not when typing in but when i highlight it:
3 - and how it should look on webistes, for archforum is an example, because i see what i type. Window is black but text is red, so i see it :
I would like to know what to change to being able to see what i type in or choose (when there are java or flash content) on all of webpages.

  • How to make the black background white or change the resolution?

    Hello!
I would like to make an iPhone Video Screencast. The screencast itself is done with 320x480, and now, I would like to import it to Final Cut. There are 2 problems I have to cope with:
    1.
If I am importing my video, final cut is showing me (or filling the blank, not proportional space) black spaces to hold the 4:3 / or 16:9 proportion. Is it possible to make this black area just white? (the website I want to integrate my video is white)
    2.
Is is possible to use other resolutions than 4:3 or 16:9 like thos appropriate for iphone screencasts: 320x480?
    thx
    alex

    Yes, it is possible.
Create a new sequence, and then click anywhere on the blank timeline and type Command - 0 {zero} to bring up the sequence settings, which you can set to what you want:

You gave no information about what time zone you are in. The good news is that it is "before noon" somewhere in the world (about half the world) all the time.

  • Help with a mask over a keyed out background

    Hi
I'm working on a stop motion animation that was filmed against a green screen and I've used the blue/green screen key to key out a background and replace it with the pattern that the director wanted.
My problem is with the first shot where the camera tracks in to the action. There is a lot of stuff in the shot that I need to get rid of (not filmed against the green screen). I've added a mask to it, however, the 'rubbish' is replaced with the original pattern - how it was before it changed colour slightly when I made the keying adjustments (colour level, tolerance, edge thin...), therefore it is a different shade.
How do I match the colour?
    Thanks

  • Keying out backgrounds

Hello. Would someone know how to key out an undesired
video background (grey sky) and replace it with another background (blue sky)? What would the process be?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

It's all going to depend on the complexity of the situation. ie, is that the only sample of that particular color in the entire frame, how consistent is the color of the key'd portion, etc.
I'm guessing that ae is the only concieveable route. Although, especially if it is a still frame, you could get fairly good results with the color key filter or the limit effect in 3-way color corrector.
Post more in-depth info, and perhaps someone else can help you more than me.
