Thanks for the prompt reply. your answer is helpful. Here is my problem.
I am an OBIEE admin and getting lot of complaints fronm developers that BI Server services are not stopping. I was adviced by my senior that i have to kill thresads in the server.
I followed what you told but when i open the RPD, i am unble to open cache in either offline or online modeHi,
- Unable to open cache due to you already disabled cache (usage tracking - nqsconfig.ini file) cache diabled that why you can't able to open cache
just make sure
[CACHE]
ENABLE = YES;
C:\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance1\config\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1 (obiee11g file path ref)
- unable to stop biservices? if that case you can kill it different ways, (stop bi services/ctrl +c on services/task manager/FMW (console/EM)/ services.msc etc) which way did you tried?
(which version did u tired)

    Thread.interrupt()
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Thre
    ad.html#interrupt() is not about killing or stopping
    a thread. It is more about kicking a blocked thread.
    There is no way to kill a thread. As been said
    above, the thread should be designed to accept
    instruction to stop gracefully.
    The interrupt() was created by sun as a solution sun came up for the problems of thread stop(), it should be the cannonical way to stop a thread.
    The problem with having your own mechanism of interrupting a thread is that you should have a method to interrupt a thread execution and a flag that should be checked from inside your thread or runnable code to see if it should stop and if so, do it cleanly. The problem with this aproach is that if the thread is sleeping or in some blocked state, calling your own interruption framework is inefective, as it could never get a chance to run the code.
    To solve that, sun privides us with the method( interrupt() ) and the flag ( Thread.interrupted() ) with the advantage that on calling it, it guarantees you that it would take effect even if the thread is in a blocked state.
    So, you are right about having to implement your own gracious interruption but the right way to do that is by checking interrupted(). And no Thread.interrupt() is not just about blocked threads, although it covers that ground.
    May the code be with you.

  • OBIEE Server taking time to start

    Hi experts
    How can we tune the OBIEE server services to start...as my OBIEE server is taking too much time to start.

    Which service specifically - BI Server (nqsserver) or Presentation Services (sawserver)? If BI Server then have a look at your RPD, are there lots of subject areas you don't need, or initialisation blocks running unnecessarily?
    If you have a look at NQServer.log you should get a timestamped inventory of what's happening at start up, see what takes the longest.
    The first line will be your repository:
    *2009-08-19 10:15:58 [36007] Loading repository /app/oracle/product/obiee/server/Repository/samplesales.rpd.*
    then all the init stuff, eg:
    *2009-08-19 10:15:58*
    *[14055] Loading subject area: Sample Sales ...*
    *2009-08-19 10:15:59*
    *[14056] Finished loading subject area: Sample Sales.*
    *2009-08-19 10:15:59*
    *[14055] Loading subject area: Usage Tracking ...*
    *2009-08-19 10:15:59*
    *[14056] Finished loading subject area: Usage Tracking.*
    *2009-08-19 10:15:59*
    *[58002] Query Cache loaded with 1 entries from saved cache files.*
    and then finally startup completed:
    *2009-08-19 10:15:59*
    *[43030] : Oracle BI Server started. Version: 10.1.3.4.1.090414.1900.*
    Examine the middle bit of your startup log, see if there's anything redundant there.

  • How to kill parent and child thread in sequnece

    Hello freinds,
    I have one class FirstClass which creates one thread Pserver and Pserver creates three threads then how to kill parent Pserver and child threads.........

    define a method that requests that the parent thread terminate itself, and within the code called when the thread is shutting itself down, have it do something similar to its child threads: call methods that request they shutdown themselves.
    One common way to do this is to interrupt the thread.

  • How to kill a Thread?

    Hello,
    My question is simple how to kill a thread.
    The background is a call to a method in a third party API, crawler4j, that locks the entire program.
    The design of crawler4j is "You should stop it when you think it's enough (ctrl+c)" but as I use it only as a step in a larger program I want to stop it programmatically and not by "ctrl+c" as they have designed the API.
    This is the locking callcontroller.start(MyCrawler.class, numberOfCrawlers);So I made a thread public class MyCrawlController extends Thread {
    public void run(){
      controller.start(MyCrawler.class, numberOfCrawlers);
    }And in my main method
    MyCrawlController mCC = new MyCrawlController();
    mCC.start();
    Thread.sleep(180000);
    //Here I want to kill the mCC and all it's threadsOne problem is that my program never terminates. Probably due too the JVM not realizing that I don't want it to count mCC and it's spawned threads as alive. Any idea on how to solve this. For now I can only exit the program with System.exit(0); and I don't want that. So I need a way to stop the mCC's threads and get the JVM not to count them. Any idea on how to solve this. Even better if they can be taken by the GC.

    Farmor wrote:
    Thanks for the answer.
    I came to think about daemons and solved the problem with mCC.setDaemon(true);Really stupid that one has to do several programs and tie them together only to kill a thread.
    As I only do this for other learning purposes and won't use this code or program after this week I will modify crawler4j, open source, and make myself a custom good method that will terminate itself and return to the main method properly.There are some fairly difficult problems with a number of aspects of concurrency if you forcibly stop threads, which is why Thread.stop() and related methods have long been deprecated.
    It's a pity that Java can't respond to kill signals (like Ctrl-C) in a tidy way. I think they're all tied up with some of the JVMs internal processes.
    In general people wind up using sockets instead of signals.

  • How to getr StackTraces of all server threads

    Hi all,
    I've tried to get stacktraces for all threads on Sun Java Application Server V8. I followed the manual. I tried CTRL+\ in verbose mode. But i think i got only stack traces of some supporting java process, not of the whole server. So my question is quite simple. How to get stacktraces of all server threads on Windows 2003 server?
    I need to find some time consuming thread.
    Thank you for your advice.
    Dadman

    On the Windows server, you can get a full java stackdump to push the 'Break' key.
    I also verified in my env.
    Hope this help.

  • Any docs on HOW TO INSTALL ORACLE CLIENT ON OBIEE SERVER?`

    Thanks...

    Generally speaking the way to installing Oracle Client does not depend directly on the product that is going to use it
    If some product requires some specific Oracle Client versions or Oracle Client configurations you should find this information in the product documentation (i.e OBIEE Server) and not in Oracle Client documentation.
    You can find Oracle Client documentation (named "Database Client") in the Installation sections of tahiti.oracle.com. For example for 11.2: http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=#microsoft_windows_installation_guides.

  • How to kill an instance process in BPM studio 6.0

    Hi i'm Fabio.
    I'm working on BPM Studio 6.0 and i need to complete a task.
    I have an instance id process, and i need to create a new process in order to kill this istance id.
    I read how to create a PAPI client (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/papi/index.html?t=modules/papi/c_Writing_Your_First_Java_PAPI_Program.html) but it doesn't work for my purpose.
    First of all, i understood that i have to follow these step:
    * Import the required libraries.
    * Create a process service.
    * Create a process service session.
    * Perform operations with PAPI.
    * Close the process service.
    Now, i'm working on my xpdl file and i'm using the Standard Module "Fuego" and my plan is to create a process servcie, a process service session and then operate with PAPI.
    But using the PAPI module include in the BPM studio 6.0 i'm no able to load the library for the session import fuego.papi.ProcessServiceSession;
    so i'm worng something. Could you tell me how can menage this problem? Really do i need a session? Is possible to abort an istance process in BPM studio or i need to load my ear project in Enterprise environment and then kill my instance process? Thanks, regards Fabio.

    Thanks Dan, i read your suggestion but my boss was to implement a different solution:
    package hp.abort.process;
    import fuego.boot.*;
    import fuego.papi.CommunicationException;
    import fuego.papi.InstanceInfo;
    import fuego.papi.InstanceId;
    import fuego.papi.ProcessService;

    ProcessServiceSession session = processService.createSession("adminEarOMatic", "adminEarOMatic", "localhost");
    /////////////////// Operate with PAPI ///////////////////

    System.out.println(" -> " + instance.getId());
    System.out.println("ActivityName -> " + instance.getActivityName());
    System.out.println("ActivityId -> "+ instance.getActivityId());
    //Problema: nn vuole ActivityId ma Process Id
    session.activityAbort("/CreateEurekaSRService#Default-1.0/eomWait","/CreateEurekaSRService#Default-1.0/1/0@EarOMatic");
    /////////////////// Close the session ///////////////////
    session.close();

    e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (OperationException e) {

  • Separating obiee server and presentation services via Web Logic Server

    Hello,
    I'm attempting to Install OBIEE Server 11.1.1.3.0 on Linux (box A). I also am installing Web Logic Server 10.3.3 on Linux (box B) with the plan of deploying presentation services on WLS.
    I originally did the following:
    1. setup Repositoyr using RCU
    2. Installed OBIEE 11.1.1.3.0 using Enterprise Option.
    3. Installed WLS 10.3.3
    4. Began following this doc: http://www.obieetalk.com/deploying-obi-presentation-services-weblogic
    ---and the following questions arose as I was going through those steps:
    a. when I start up the Weblogic configuration wizard. I get to step 8 and it asks me to configure the Administration Server.
    --is that the Weblogic Server(box B)?
    b. It then asks me to configure Managed Servers.
    --That is the Weblogic Server, correct(box B)?
    I skipped Configuring Clusters.
    c. It then asks to Configure Machines.
    --I'm not sure what to put here.
    **I then proceeded to open up an SR and was given a "Here's the install guide" as a 'Solution Offered'.
    Oracle then came back with you need to do a "Software Only" install of OBIEE
    --On Box A or B? Because when I do that it asking where the WebLogic Server / Middleware Home is located.
    So, I'm asking
    1. do I do Enterprise, Simple or Software Only on Box A?
    2. Install WLS first, and then follow the document( http://www.obieetalk.com/deploying-obi-presentation-services-weblogic ) on how to deploy the Presentation Services?
    3. Which will lead me back to these questions:
    a. when I start up the Weblogic configuration wizard.
    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Is this the only error that you got in log files. Can you change the presentation catalog name and give it a try. Kill all the services. Start OC4J and then start the services.

  • HOW TO: Set up your application server to run BC4J

    How To set up your application server to run BC4J.
    INTRODUCTION
    A running BC4J application is actually the combination of:
    * Your own application files
    * BC4J runtime libraries
    In order to successfully run your BC4J application in local mode, the first requirement is
    that your application server contains the necessary BC4J libraries.
    This How To describes the steps required to ensure that you have a functional
    BC4J runtime environment installed on your application server.
    Oracle IAS 1.0.2 and Tomcat 3.1 will be used as examples.
    THE BC4J RUNTIME LIBRARIES
    Whatever application server you deploy to, the following libraries
    are required in the following order to be in the classpath.
    BC4J Libraries:
    xmlparserv2.jar
    jdev-rt.zip
    jbojdbcpatch.zip
    connectionmanager.zip
    jbohtml.zip
    jboimdomains.zip
    ordim817.zip
    ordvir817.zip
    ordhttp.zip
    jbomt.zip
    jbodomorcl.zip
    jboremote.zip
    jndi.jar
    jbodatum12.zip
    These libraries can be found in <JDEV_HOME>/lib/
    INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON IAS:
    Installing the libraries is simply a matter of copying them to the
    application server's filesystem and adding them to the classpath.
    IAS's classpath can be modified by editing the file:
    <IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties
    In this file you'll find the existing pre-installed BC4J libraries which
    looks like this:
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordvir817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\lib\ordim817.zip
    etc.
    Note! These BC4J libraries correspond to JDeveloper 3.1.1.
    In order to run JDev 3.2 based applications you will have to update these libraries
    to JDeveloper 3.2 production.
    Steps:
    1. Copy (or FTP) the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries from <JDEV_HOME>\lib to a NEW directory on the
    appserver's filesystem called:
    <IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib
    2. Modify the classpath by editing <IAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties.
    Example: (modified classpath entries)
    # New 3.2 BC4J Runtime libraries
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\xmlparserv2.jar
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jdev-rt.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\connectionmanager.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbohtml.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboimdomains.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordim817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordvir817.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\ordhttp.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbomt.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodomorcl.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jboremote.zip
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jndi.jar
    wrapper.classpath=<IAS_HOME>\Apache\BC4J\newlib\jbodatum12.zip
    Note: Make sure to remove or comment out the existing 3.1.1 BC4J library entries!
    To see the changes, you must restart IAS and that's it, your IAS will be updated with
    the JDev 3.2 BC4J libraries which allow you to run BC4J Data Tags among other
    things!
    INSTALLING THE LIBRARIES ON TOMCAT
    As before, this process involves both the copying of the libraries
    and modifying the classpath.
    After copying the BC4J libraries to a path accessible from Tomcat,
    you can modify Tomcat's classpath by editing it's startup script:
    <TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.bat (NT)
    <TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\tomcat.sh (Unix)
    Here is a portion of a modified tomcat.bat (on NT)
    rem Add BC4J libraries

    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jndi.jar
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\jbodatum12.zip
    rem Add Oracle JDBC library
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;D:\bc4j_lib\classes12.zip
    Note: I also added the Oracle JDBC library since Tomcat does not have it.

    <JDEV_HOME>\jdbc\lib\oracle8.1.7\classes12.zip
    And That's It!
    When Tomcat is restarted using this script, the necessary BC4J libraries
    will be in the classpath..
    A follow up How To:"How To Deploy a BC4J JSP Application on IAS and Tomcat"
    will be posted shortly!

    I copied the following files in jserv classpath
    bc4jct.jar
    bc4jctejb.jar
    bc4jdomorcl.jar
    bc4jhtml.jar
    bc4jimdomains.jar
    bc4jmt.jar
    bc4jmtejb.jar
    bc4juixtags.jar
    collections.jar
    datatags.jar
    jdev-cm.jar
    regexp.jar
    share.jar
    uix2.jar
    cabo.war
    classes12.jar
    nls_charset12.jar
    ordim.jar
    ordhttp.jar
    runtime12.jar
    jdev-rt.jar
    xmlparserv2.jar
    bc4j_jclient_common.jar
    webapp.war
    I got this list from Jdev 9031 on-line help
    I also copied the new DataTags.tld file to /webapp directory
    When i run my jsp page i get this error..

    In the JDK 1.3 APi docs, i found that TimerTask was introduced only in JDK 1.3
    Does this mean that BC4J (in jdev 9031) will only work
    with JDK 1.3 or later?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Running reports on Flat file schemas when OBIEE server is on Unix

    Hello
    we would like to know how Unix OBIEE work with flat file. Currently, in our environment our Development and Production OBIEE are running on Unix AIX machine while our local OBIEE environment is on Windows.
    As our devolepment and configuration goes, we have encounter situations where the flat file schema that were working well on Windows OBIEE server will not run on Unix. The flat files are located on a windows file directory and could be successfully imported into OBIEE throu Admin Tool.
    However, when updating rowcounts or running reports on answers in Unix OBIEE it would return errors:
    State: HY000. Code: 472983136. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 16023] The ODBC function has returned an error. The database may not be available, or the network may be down. (HY000)
    The same activity is working fine on our local machine when OBIEE is on windows..
    We would like to get some help on how to work with flat files when OBIEE is runing on Unix..

    is this the same question as [this one|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=4018049#4018049] ?

    Hi,
    There is one more method,i know
    Set the JAVA_HOME and PATH
    then execute the
    $WL_HOME\wlserver_10.3\server\bin>setWLSEnv.cmd
    Go to directory which contains weblogic.jar ($WL_HOME\server\lib) and run below command
    $WL_HOME\wlserver_10.3\server\lib>java -cp weblogic.jar weblogic.version

  • Flat file output to OBIEE server

    Hello:
    Is it possible to write a output of a report on the OBIEE server folder instead of the client browser folder?
    Also I would like to write the output file name in the format 'OBIEE_Login_Name|<FileName>_Timestamp.csv'
    I would appreciate any pointers on how I can achieve both.
    Thanks

  • Help: how to kill a bpm process

    I create a bpm process with an infinite loop and my server crash everytime.
    How to kill this process.

    Hi Capro
    Log into NWA
    Navigate to manage processes
    NWA-> Operation management -> Processes and Tasks -> Manage Processes
    Select the nasty process instance and click on Actions> Cancel
    By doing so you will be canceling the process instance and this will help in saving your server from crashing
    If you are using 7.20 there are options to handle this too from BPM System Overview

    Harsha
