How to know the Port no where any process is running.

Hi all
I have jdk1.6 on my local machine and jdk 1.4 in my production environment. I want to use jconsole to be able to keep a watch on the java processes running in the production environment.
Can anybody tell me how should i proceed in using the jconsole so that i can monitor this remote server and know where and why the jvm is failing?

I think it will be tough to do this for 1.4. Starting with 1.5 you have many more tools that make it easier; see the manual page for jstatd for example.
One possibility would be to have a monitoring program that periodically runs a command to get the current list of processes ("ps" on Unix systems) and that creates a connector server that JConsole can connect to. Since you're on 1.4, you'll need to pick up an implementation of the JMX and JMX Remote APIs. The Reference Implementations of JSRs 3 and 160 would be a reasonable choice; see http://java.sun.com/products/JavaManagement/download.html
If you want to know why the JVMs are failing that looks like a much tougher task. One way would be to change the way you run your apps so that instead of calling the "java" command directly (/usr/bin/java or whatever), it runs a wrapper program or script that runs the original java program and detects a failure exit. It would put the details about the failure somewhere where the monitoring program can find them.

    The ORCL server process listens to port no 1521 and
    SAMPLE server process listens to port no 1522
    Once I start the OracleServiceORCL (Service for orcl) from services.msc and check the listener status it displays

    But when I start OracleServiceSAMPLE (Service for sample) from services.exe and check the listener status there is no change . Only when i start the instance the dynamic registration takes place with port no 1521 .
    There is no entry for listener parameter in init.ora file . My question is how is the service ORCL able to get itself registered with the listener even before the instance is up ?
    And how can i know which port no is linked with which server process?
    Also if we provide a different port number(other than 1521 say 1522) in tnsnames.ora for a service and consider the listener is listening to both 1521 and 1522 . Now consider that port number 1521 is free . In this case to which port number will the service be listening to ?

    The status tells you the instance is up. Starting the service often means the instance gets started also, but whatever "often" means, "READY" means "The instance is up, running and taking callers".
    Your statement that "ORCL [is] able to get itself registered with the listener even before the instance is up" is therefore factually incorrect: you started the service, that started the instance. The instance is up and running. Instances that aren't running don't exist. Things which don't exist don't register themselves. Things which HAVE registered themselves therefore do exist.. and if they say they are "ready", it means they are completely, 100% up and running and behaving quite normally.
    I have not set LOCAL_LISTENER initialization parameter.How is this happening ?
    You only need to set LOCAL_LISTENER if (a) you're not using TCP/IP, (b) you're not using port 1521. Otherwise, PMON is hard-coded to register itself with listeners running on port 1521 and using TCP/IP and you don't need to set LOCAL_LISTENER to achieve that.
    Server Processes do not listen. Listeners do (there's a clue in their name). Listeners receive a call to connect to an instance, they spawn a server process to handle your call, and then they connect you to that server process (or send a message back to you telling you how to contact the server process). Each server process of course receives communications from its dedicated client on a specific port (usually in the 50000+ range), and that port is chosen randomly by the listener when it's spawning it. It's a bit blurry and vague to call that server process port a port on which server processes "listen", however.
    If you're talking dedicated server, each client causes one new server process to be spawned, and there is a one-to-one correspondence between server processes and the port that server process happens to accept client communications on.
    If you're going to ask a listener to do listening duty on multiple ports, I'd first question your need to do that and I'd then point out that unless your client tnsnames.ora knows to talk on the second or subsequent port numbers, the listener is never actually going to make use of that second port.
    In either case, the port the listener listens on has nothing whatsoever to do with the port your client-to-server-process communication ends up taking place     Be sure you have prepared the new drive correctly:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
    When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

    RK1  with restriction :  Total Number of Note,
    RK2  with restriction :  Total Opening Days ,
    then I Created a calculated key figure, average opening days in a period
    CK1 = RK2 / RK1..
    in this case, I am not sure if it will work or not..
    for example, during RK2 calclation, it might be this   2+3 = 5, the line with 0 will be ignored..
    during RK1 calcualtion, it might be 1 + 1 + 1 = 3. ---> Not sure in this case, the line with opening days 0 will be calculated or not..
    could you please confirm..

    I am currently working on a project where this happens. I have a main type of object that all of my other types extend. While working on the objects in a method, any type of other object could be coming through. To test I try to cast the object and catch class cast exceptions. This only works because I know the different type that will be coming through....

    If you need to act differently on each file type separately or if not all types of files are wanted, i.e. the Filespecifier cannot be *.* in the Foreach loop:
    In the ssis package
    make 3 variables:
    to store the file extension, e.g. User::CurrentExtension of type string
    to store the filename found in the directory: @CurrentFilename
    to store the name of the directory where the files reside e.g. User::CurrentDirectory
    make a foreach loop of type Foreach Item enumerator:
    in the items list you add each file extension that you need
    txt
    csv
    xls
    xlsx
    As Variable mappings map the CurrentExtension to Index 0
    Inside this foreach loop add another foreach loop of type Foreach File enumerator, in the collection Expressions
    add Expression Directory , set to @[User::CurrentDirecotry]
    add Expression FileSpec, set to "*." + @[User::CurrentFileExtension]
    In the Variable mappings, map Variable user::CurrentFilename to Index 0
    Inside this loop use Execute SQL Task to insert the filename in a Excel connection.

    I have column in a table which normally gets populated from a sequence, but due to some reasons there are some missing nos .Like normally we populate the col with starting 100000 and but due to some reasons the next no is 100002 here 100001 is missing .So there is a requirement to know which all the nos are being missed .Please tell me how to find the missing rows.
    Any ideas and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    When We close a production order, if we go to the summary tab we can see the total cost of the real component and cost of the real item.   My question is how to know the cost of every component used for the real product? I run the stock Audit  report, and there I see a field named Calcprice, in what table where can I find this field? to get the cost individual for each component in the moment i close the PO.

    That is the data I need, but how can I get it via query because I dont find the field to know the cost in the exactly moment when is created the receipt of productiion.  I was trying to locate in tables IGN1 -- IGN12 but I dont get the cost field.

    Unfortunately, we do not have any VIs in LabVIEW that can figure out the number of pages of a standard report. However, with the use of ActiveX calls you can achieve this task. Here are a couple of discussion forums which discuss this:
