  • How to make a class an array

    Hello, i am very confused as to how to make an array inside a class and use it from another class. For example, when making a "Book of hotties" where i would create entries in a book(objects) of hot women ,with parameters
    name, last name, phone number, and rating, and i am supposed to make a class for the book itself with a Person [ ] blackBook, and also a separete class called Person where i would create each person. How would i go about creating this array and where would i create it? and from that how can i access it in order to perform methods like sorting and checking entries? Tnx in advance.

    You probably need to start here: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/arrays.html
    There is also a Java collection called ArrayList which is suitable for storing and retreiving objects such as BlackBook, Person etc...
    To access elements of an array within a class you would most likely use a public getter method. eg.
    public class BlackBook {
       private ArrayList<Person> persons = new ArrayList<Person>();
      public ArrayList<Person> getPersons() {
         return this.persons;
      public Person getPerson(int index) {
        this.persons.get(index);
    };etc..

  • How to make use of byte array to perform credit and debit in Wallet Applet

    Hi,
    Can anyone please explain me how to use the concept of byte arrays.. to perform credit and debit operations of a 6byte amount. Say for example.. the amount contains 3 bytes whole number, 1 byte decimal dot and 2 bytes fractional part.
    It would be helpful if anyone could post a code snippet.. that way i can undersatnd easily.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hello
    as explained in the other topic, remember your high school years and how you leart to add numbers.
    then, reproduce these algorithms for base-256 numbers.
    fractional? just google about fixed point math and floating point math. The first one is easier, as they are managed as integers.
    example, you want to store 1,42€. Then you decide the real number to deal with is N*100, and you store 142. You get 2 decimal places of precision.
    in the computer world it's easier to store n*256 as it's just a byte shift.
    then the addition operations are the same, and you just interpret the values as fractional numbers.

  • How to make mouse click event to display image on 2D array?

    Hi! beginner programmer here looking for some guidance, hints and tips.
    I'm making a game of "Connect 4" and using a 2D array to display the board which is 7x6 in size.
    What i want to do is that when the player clicks on one of the squares, one of the 2 game pieces(red.png or yellow.png) will appear on the respective coordinates of the 2D array and check if the square in the first row is empty and if true, places/display
    the game piece, else it places the piece on the first empty square.
    Since i've never worked with WinForms or 2d arrays before i'm not sure how to initiate it.
    What i was considering in pseudocode was:
    pb_Mouseclick(object sender, MouseEventArgs e)
    if(e.Button==MouseButtons.Left)
    Picturebox pb=(Picturebox)sender;
    clickLocation.X= e.Location.X + pb.Location.X, pieceArray[row];
    clickLocation.Y=e.Location.Y + pb.Location.Y, pieceArray[col];
    if(pieceArray[row, col] == null)
    if(player1.IsStarter==true) selectedimage(@"yellow.png")
    else
    selectedimage(@"red.png")
    else {
    bool empty= false;
    for(int row=0; row<height - 1; row++)
    for(int col=0; col<width; col++)
    if(pieceArray[row, col] ==null)
    empty=true;
    (Add gamepiece)
    This is what i've come up with so far, but it's just some theorycrafting, not sure if i should use a while-loop instead...
    Hope anyone can give me some insight on how to make it work and if the logic of my pseudocode is correct for what i want according to my earlier explanation.
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Gabbelino,
    I could not understand your game rule clearly, and could you make explanation for me?
    1.>> when the player clicks on one of the squares
    What were the squares? Did it like dice or anything else?
    2.>> one of the 2 game pieces(red.png or yellow.png) will appear on the respective coordinates of the 2D array
    What is the 2 game pieces? Could you show us the two pictures?
    3.>> check if the square in the first row is empty and if true, places/display the game piece, else it places the piece on the first empty square
    Could you show us where places/display the game piece?
    Best Regards,

  • How to make buttons enabled after the data is entered in JTextField?

    I got a JTextField. I want to test the entered data in JTextField is eight length. If the data is of length eight then i want to enable two buttons. How to make it enable? I am getting the length eight, but the buttons are not enable. What listeners I have to use.
    Can anybody help me out.
    Thanks for your help in advanced.

    Create a class that extends KeyAdapter. Add a field that is an array of buttons. Override the keyTyped(KeyEvent e) method to use getSource() to access the text area, check the length of the text, and if > 8, go through the array and enable the buttons in the array. Then, when you create the text area, create an instance of your listener, passing it an array of the two buttons you want to enable, and then use addKeyListener(yourKeyListener) to add your key listener to the text area.

  • Can't figure out how to make "sub-tabs" / Too many "top-tabs" / Other ?

    First of all, the website that I am webmaster for is: www.cindydennis.org .
    I am having some problems:
    1) There are TOO MANY tabs at the top. I can't figure out how to make sub-headings on one page...
    For example, I'd like on the "About CDM" page, tabs that can be clicked on to go to other information tabs, but that don't end up appearing on the top (e.g.: having "Remarks" and "What We Believe" tabs go there, but not appear at the top).
    Another example, if you look at the home screen, I'd like to have the link to the "Privacy Policy" and Terms of Service" pages on the bottom, but not have them appear as tabs in the top, too.
    How do I do this, please? I've searched, and can't figure out/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
    2) How do I add "Copyright 2011" automatically? I saw in the Rapidweaver trial version, it automatically adds it when you publish... is there a way to tell this program to do this? Or do I need to type that in on each page? (I don't want to purchase RW... I'm not ready for that yet.)
    Thank you in advance

    Cindee ~ One way to do the copyright notice is to use a Text Clipping — Select (highlight) the copyright text you want to use and drag it to the Desktop. If necessary, change the name of the Clipping icon so that it's more easily identifiable on the Desktop. Then, when you need it in iWeb, simply drag the Clipping icon from the Desktop to iWeb's main canvas.
    By the way, rather than posting your URL here like this:

  • How to make the new Array start at the same position as the previous and randomise only the newObjec

    So i am currently trying to make 5 boxes/ships (3Blue and 2 Green)appear  in a random position(1st-Gree,2nd- Blue,3rd-blue,4th-Green,5th-Green or in some other random way) i the upper corner of the stage.Make them move down.Then make a new 5 boxes and position them in the same starting position as the previous 5 and make only them get randomised (not with the previous 5,what it is doing at the moment).And do this while they are moving down.  so the code so far i have is this :
    import flash.events.Event;
    var shipCount:Number;
    var shipCount2:Number;
    var shipArray:Array = new Array();
    var shipArrayPosition:Array = new Array();
    var counter:int = 0
    var positionsX:Array = ["50","100","150","200","250",]
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, everyFrame)
    function everyFrame(ev:Event):void{
              counter++
              if(counter % 70 == 0){
                             doShips()
              positionShips()
              trace(shipArray.length )
    function doShips() {
              shipCount = 3;
              shipCount2 = 2;
              var gap = 10;
              for (var i:int = 0; i < shipCount; i++) {
                        var s = new Ship;
                        shipArray.push(s);
                        //s.x = s.width/2 + (s.width* i) + gap*i
                        //addChild(s)
                        //shipArrayPosition.push(s);
              for (var j:int = 0; j < shipCount2; j++) {
                        s = new Ship2;
                        shipArray.push(s);
              var array:Array=new Array();
              while (shipArray.length>0) {
                        var index:uint = Math.floor(Math.random() * shipArray.length);
                        array.push(shipArray[index]);
                        shipArray.splice(index,1);
              shipArray = array;
              //shipsArray has been randomized
              for (var k:int = shipArray.length - 1; k >= 0; k--) {
                        shipArray[k].x = positionsX[k]
                        addChild(shipArray[k])
    function positionShips() {
              for (var i:int = shipArray.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {

    and how to make them stay at one position.Not to move in any X position when the new 5 are added

    This one is more efficient yet because it removes ships that moved out of view:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.Event;
    var numShips:int = 5;
    var shipCount:int = 3;

              for (var i:int = numShips - 1; i >= 0; i--)
                        positionsX.push(50 * i);
              addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, everyFrame);

              addChild(shipsLine);
              shipArray.push(shipsLine);
              shuffle(positionsX);
              for (var i:int = numShips - 1; i >= 0; i--)
                        s = i < shipCount ? new Ship() : new Ship2();
                        s.x = positionsX[i] + gap;
                        shipsLine.addChild(s);
              shipsLine.y = -shipsLine.height;
    function shuffle(a:Array):void
              for (var i:int = a.length - 1; i >= 0; i--)
                        var r:int = Math.floor(Math.random() * (i + 1));
                        var t:Object = a[r];
                        a[r] = a[i];

    Why can't you provide specific instructions here in HT203909 (Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD) about how to make the USB drive bootable?  The article referenced for partitioning the drive is not dedicated to Bootcamp--too long, too many options.  How do you make it bootable?

    If your BC Assistant shows the option to create a USB Installer, it automatically is marked as bootable. There is no need to have manual intervention to make a bootable USB. Once the process is manually modified, it is supported by the person modifying it.
    You have two or three options (depending on your Mac Model).
    1. Create USB... - Use a USB2 flash drive, which is erased and formatted. If your Mac supports ISOs then BCA will prompt for the Media. Any Mac which does not have a built-in Optical drive will support an ISO. There are specific Mac models which support both, DVD and USB based installation.
    2. Download Software from Apple servers...
    3. Install Windows...
    Are any additional instructions really necessary?

    How to make hyperlinks for http://www.hotmail.com and http://www.google.com texts only???
    And how to call those sites???

    Add a mouse listener, when the user double clicks - see if they've clicked on text that is a valid link.
    The limitation of using textfield or textarea is that you get no styling. I dont know why you're refusing those suggestions, but you're just creating more work for yourself.

    (which is the mask of IP Address) ??
    What I know that limiting input in JTextField can be done
    by extending PlainDocument....what about the cases above??
    Please reply if you know.
    Thanks a lot,
    Ted.

    For the first question, just call setEditable(false).

    Thanks very much for your help, but I'm still overlooking something. I double checked to make sure that I did not have a hidden .txt file extention. I then decided to abandon the lock on preferences idea until I get it working. I converted my mozilla.cfg file back to plain text. I made sure I do not have an extra blank line at the end of each file. The syntax looks good, as far as I can tell. I'll copy and paste what I have so far. Did I have the file locations correct posted above? Also, if you feel i can delete some lines of text in my mozilla.cfg file I'll be happy to do so.

  • Confusion on how to make array program

    I have been taking a Java class at school for a couple months and am a bit unsure about how to go about completing a particular assignment. No text book that I found could really make me understand. I am trying to make a simple applet that tests for a username and password. My teacher tried it and also couldn't do it. Here is what we have so far. Any input on how to make the array portion work would be appreciated greatly:
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;

    //Declaring variables
    String id, password;
    boolean success;
    String idArray[] = {"aaron","kevin"};
    String passwordArray[] = {"shs", "bears"};
    //Create components for applet
    Label headerLabel = new Label("Please type your ID and Password");
    Label idLabel = new Label("ID: ");
    TextField idField = new TextField(8);
    Label passwordLabel = new Label("Password: ");
    TextField passwordField = new TextField(8);
    Button loginButton = new Button("Login");
    public void init()
    //Set color, layout, and add components
    setBackground(Color.orange);
    setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT,50,30));
    add(headerLabel);
    add(idLabel);
    add(idField);
    idField.requestFocus();
    add(passwordLabel);
    add(passwordField);
              passwordField.setEchoChar('*');
    add(loginButton);
    loginButton.addActionListener(this);
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
    success = false;
    id = idField.getText();
    password = passwordField.getText();
    //Sequential search
    int i = 0;
              while( i<idArray.length)
                        if(id.compareTo(idArray)==0)
                             if (password.compareTo(passwordArray[i])==0)

  • How to make the name of a column apear as many times as the column on page

    Hi,
    This is what i want to do:
    I have a basic report looking like this:
    <Column name>
    value 1
    value 2
    value 3
    value n
    Since the column is small it can fit in a page more then one time. I know how to make it print more then once: i switch the repeating frame to print down and across and i modify the frame that contains it so the horizontal elasticity is variable.
    After these changes my report looks like this:
    <Column name>
    value 1-----------------------value n+1-----------------------value m+1
    value 2-----------------------value n+2-----------------------value m+2
    value 3-----------------------value n+3-----------------------...
    value n-----------------------value m
    What i want is my report to look like this:
    <Column name>-------<Column name>------------<Column name>
    value 1-----------------------value n+1-----------------------value m+1
    value 2-----------------------value n+2-----------------------value m+2
    value 3-----------------------value n+3-----------------------...
    value n-----------------------value m
    Would welcome any advice on how to achieve this please.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I will suggest a solution which may appear not simple. I do not know. Il did use this method, because a Government pre-printed tax form can print six values (in colum way) each page and it was not just esthetique question.
    1. Seams that you can know in advance the max number of column according to the width of the page and the length of the column.
    2. You can assume that you have x column at max by ligne
    3. Transforms your N rows in a table of M rows, each one with x columns : you will have N/x + N mod x
    4. I did this transformation using PL/SQL piplined function to transform rows to columns (by x)
    5. You base your report on the Pipelined function using select ... from Table (fnc_....) syntaxe
    6. make your vertical elasticity to variable and horizontal to fixed
    7. Put six labels on the top of your repeating frame (within a normal frame)
    I agree, it's not the solution if the requirment is just esthetic.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to make "Levels" in simple java game

    I just wanted to know if anybody knew how to make "Levels" in a java game. In my case, it is to change two polygons that are used in the background. I think you have to use an array of some kind, but i dont really know.
    Here is my source, the polygons are by the massive ///////// areas.
    I cut out the majority of the program, because it was too long.
    public class collision extends Applet implements MouseListener,MouseMotionListener
        private  Image rickImage,mazeImage;
       Image Buffer;
       Graphics gBuffer;
       int x, y;

       int[] LeftWallY = {500,499,402,402,341,324,227,191,157,141,135,123,116,109,86,1,1};
       //int[] PlayAreaX = {204,204,149,149,162,162,243,260,235,259,232,260,230,207,207,263,263,245,282,262,274,257,273,250,184,184,170,170,208,216,216};

       int[] RightWallY = {500,0,1,86,103,115,129,138,147,155,201,230,323,340,384,384,402,499};

                 rickImage = getImage(getDocumentBase(), "rick.jpg");

                 playerArea= new Polygon(PlayAreaX,PlayAreaY,31);
                 leftWall= new Polygon(LeftWallX,LeftWallY,17);
            public void paint(Graphics g)
                 drawStuff();
                 g.drawImage (Buffer,0,0, this);
    */

    I'm not exactly sure in your case what you are trying to accomplish. If all you want to do is make new polygons for your levels then you will simply need a Vector of type level (or polygon). Store multiple levels/polygons in that vector. This can be done many ways, probably the most efficient way would be to create a class Level of sorts and create each level object from there. This way you have all your levels stored into that vector.
    I have made programs where the levels/mazes are randomly generated based on certain parameters (this way you would not need to define any specific level). This can be done inside the Level class and added to the vector so that when a level is randomly generated there are literally infinite possibilities. I would suggest posting all your code or at least a breakdown UML diagram of what is going on in your entire program.
