How to make selectBooleanCheckbox and selectBooleanRadio required?

Question

I have tried setting the "required" property on both selectBooleanRadio and selectBooleanCheckbox components, but it appears to have no effect. What I need is the same functionality as a selectOneRadio component, but with the UI flexibility of the selectBooleanRadio component. I can set all of my SelectBooleanRadio components in a "group", and that makes sure that only one in the group is selected at a time. But, I need to ensure that at least ONE is selected (e.g. "required"). This works for selectOneRadio, but not selectBooleanRadio.
Here's some (overly-simplified) sample code for the page:
<af:selectBooleanRadio text="Option A" id="selectBooleanRadio1" label="Select One" group="group1" value="A" required="true" simple="true"/>
<af:selectBooleanRadio text="Option B" id="selectBooleanRadio2" label="Select One" group="group1" value="B" required="true" simple="true"/>
<af:selectBooleanRadio text="Option C" id="selectBooleanRadio3" label="Select One" group="group1" value="C" required="true" simple="true"/>
I would expect that with the "required=true" property set, that ADF would not let the user submit the page without select one of the selectBooleanRadio options. But, it doesn't do that. (Similar problems exist for a selectBooleanCheckbox - the 'required' attribute appears to have no effect.)
I am using jDev v11.1.1.5.0. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, and would love for someone to point out what it is! :-)

Extract from the URL The attributes "disabled", "immediate", "readOnly", "required", "requiredMessageDetail", "value" are not settable from the client for security reasons.
You need to have a managed bean to set initial value and force it as required field.
