Why don't you try Xerces2?Why don't you tell him to use the javax.xml APIs that are already built in? And that use Xerces2 under the hood? Instead of throwing out a suggestion that might lead to him adding another copy of Xerces into his application?
@OP there are several techniques:
- string replacement as suggested by jschell
- XML parsing to a DOM and then use the DOM API
- XSLT
Which you should use depends on the complexity of your requirement.

Hi Rajeev,
To retrieve a FilterContainer you will need to traverse the report structure:
ReportStructure boReportStructure = boDocumentInstance.getStructure();
ReportContainer boReportContainer = (ReportContainer) boReportStructure.getReportElement(0);
FilterContainer boFilterContainer = null;
if (boReportContainer.hasFilter()) {
boFilterContainer = boReportContainer.getFilter();
} else {
boFilterContainer = boReportContainer.createFilter(LogicalOperator.AND);
Calling boDocumentInstance.getStructure() will retrieve the entire structure for the document.
Calling boReportStructure.getReportElement(0) will retrieve the structure for the first report of the document.
Hope this helps.

• Help on how to read the content of an XML file from the payload

I have a receiver channel / mail adapter, that sends e-mails with a XML attachment.

• How to compare the contents of two XML documents

Hi all,
I was trying to compare the contents of two xml documents, they are both validate for the same XML Schema. i was using the xmlunit to do this. but some how it doesn't work like what i have expected. for example:
1.xml : <test>
2

1
</test>
2.xml: <test>
3

2

1
</test>
the result from XMLUnit is this two xmls are different, but it compares
2
with
3
, which i cannot find out where the real diiffs are.
does anybody know how i can do this correct?
best regards,
tina

I faced a similar problem in one of my projects and hence wrote my own comparator. Most comparators like ExamXML etc show XML as different if the nodes under a parent node occur in different seqeunce or a set of repeated nodes occur in different sequence. The comparator that I wrote gives you the flexibility to configure how to identify a node from a set of repeated nodes and is able to compare them successfully if they occur in any order. You can view the sample output at http://geocities.com/dheerendra_itbhu/TipsFromDheeru.html
and contact me in case you need the source code.

• How to modify the priority of UWL XML File??

Hello,
How do you modify the priority of a UWL generated XML file? Ths xml file was generated when I registered the SRM system in UWL.
I tried using the tab, Universal Worklist Configuration -> Upload new Configuration but it gives an exception "Operation not allowed".
The reason for doing this,
Conflicting ItemTypes are defined in the SRM XML file and one of the pre-defined SAP XML file (uwl_erp2005_buyer), and the SRM XML file has a priority of "Low" compared to medium priority for the erp xml. I need to change the SRM XML priority to "HIGH".
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you, John

Erwin,
Thanks for your reply.
I downloaded the xml file, modifed some content. While uploading with the same name, making it a high priority and selecting the required system from the dropdown, "Adapt to System", it gives the following error
Wed Apr 08 15:50:47 CDT 2009 : Operation not allowed on UWL generated Configuration:uwl.webflow.SAP_SRM_IAC
Any reason the system does not allow doing this?

• How to modify the content of a file

Hello All,
If anyone of you can help me in modifying the file conent.
let's say for example, to modify the properties file.
I've my.properties file with keys and values as follows.
show=false
secure=false
test=false
I would like to change the "false" value to "true" of any of the keys.
java /jsp code would be helpful.
appreciate your help in advance.

OK..
Break the problem down.
You need to:
1- Read the file into a String/String[]
2- Parse the file into its individual elements
3- change some of those elements
This involves searching the string for the index of where a particular word or combination occurs, and then finding out the value that follows it, and then changing that value...
4- re-construct the file
5- write the fileDoes the format of the file have to be the way you've presented it above? (Personally, I'd use a pseudo-XML tag style)

• How to get the "encoding" of a XML file using JDOM

As in XML file, indicates the encoding of this file
while using JDOM to parse a XML file, how can I get the encoding type?
thanx!!!

What my program do is to get the encoding of XML files and convert them to UTF-8 encoding files, while I need this "encoding" information of the original XML document thus I can convert...
After reading specifications and JDOM docs, the truth turns to be disappointed, no function is provided to get this information in JDOM level 2(the current released one), while it's promissed that this function will be provided in JDOM level API....
Thanx all for your help and attention!!!

• How to scale the content along with child elements?

By default I need my application size to be compatible with 1280x800 resolution; and if the application is viewed at a bigger resolution, only the background needs to be stretched, therefore I have to hardcode canvas size and set background in percentage. Till now it is alright, but when the application is viewed at a smaller resolution or with window size scaled down, the application content should also scale along.
So, any clues on scaling down the content [along with child contents]? mind you, it has background images so must be scaled with proper aspect ratio.
Thanks for any help.

Thank you for the tip... this solves my problem partially. Now I am working on to scale the inner content of canvas --- on resize. Since there are elements like buttons and images, i can not define them in percentage, so i need to first check what exactly is the percentage of reduced canvas, and then accordingly i'll have to apply that percent on the inner elements. Any other better idea? as i see this only as a work around, not a proper solution.
Anyway thanks again for the help.

Using XPath to locate the elements you are after is very easy.
Try something like this:
import java.io.File;
import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource;
import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
import javax.xml.xpath.XPath;
import javax.xml.xpath.XPathConstants;
import javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactory;
import org.w3c.dom.Document;
import org.w3c.dom.NodeList;
import org.xml.sax.InputSource;
public class BasicXMLReplaceWithDOM4J {
static String inputFile = "C:/student.xml";
static String outputFile = "C:/studentRenamed.xml";
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// Read xml and build a DOM document
Document doc = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance()
.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new InputSource(inputFile));
// Use XPath to find all nodes where student is named 'Suresh'
XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
NodeList nodes = (NodeList)xpath
.evaluate("//stud_name[text()='Suresh']", doc, XPathConstants.NODESET);
// Rename these nodes
for (int idx = 0; idx < nodes.getLength(); idx++) {
nodes.item(idx).setTextContent("Suresh-Renamed");
// Write the DOM document to the file
Transformer xformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
xformer.transform(new DOMSource(doc), new StreamResult(new File(outputFile)));
