How to modify the Manifest file in the JAR file

Hi guys,
i am having a JAR which contains one Manifest file and 10 class files.
actually i want to do some changes on the manifest file, but by using the ,
" jar -cmf new_manifest_file jar_fileName all_class_files " option i am able to modify the manifest file by repacking the .class also.
i want to modify the manifest file without disturbing the existing class files in the JAR file.
Thanx in advance.............! ! ! !
bye,
subbu

yeah, that is correct.
my doubt is,
Is it possible to modify the Manifest file which is inside the jar file, by without disturbing the Class files.

  • How to use the COMM API in a JAR file

    I have developed an application, using the NetBeans IDE, to communicate with a modem over the COM1 serial port using the Java Comm API. The application works fine within the IDE, but when a JAR file is created and "double-clicked", the application launches correctly, but when the code is executed to "talk" over the COM1 serial port - nothing happens. No exceptions and no warnings are thrown. My environment is XP, SP1.
    The manifest file is as follows:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Class-Path: ../j2sdk1.4.2/jre/lib/ext/TimerBean.jar ../j2sdk1.4.2/jre/
    lib/ext/AbsoluteLayout.jar ../j2sdk1.4.2/jre/lib/ext/comm.jar
    Created-By: NetBeans IDE
    Specified-By: Projects/TheApp/Files/TheApp.jarContent
    Main-Class: Main
    According to the Comm API installation instructions, the following files are copied:
    copy comm.jar \j2sdk1.4.2\jre\lib\ext
    copy wind32com.dll \j2sdk1.4.2\bin
    copy javax.comm.properties \j2sdk1.4.2\jre\lib
    I suspect it has something to do with the paths.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for your input, but after trying what you suggested the problem still exists. I think your right to be suspicous of the javax.comm.properties file. The application, that worked in the IDE, exhibits the same behavoir as the JAR file if the javax.comm.properties file is removed from the ../jre/lib directory. In other words it compiles correctly in the IDE, but when executed, nothing happens when the code that "talks" to the serial port is run.
    I've tried moving the javax.comm.properties file into the working directory. Also, the CLASSPATH and PATH system variables were modified to include the path to javax.comm.properties.
    If you have anymore ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    You can write a external Subroutine to fetch the extra data into the script program
    see the following sample code

    The Form :
    /:PERFORM CDE_CENT IN PROGRAM ZKRPMM_PERFORM_Z1MEDRUCK
    /:USING &EKKO-EBELN&

    IMPORTING
    output = w_ebeln.
    SELECT SINGLE zcdffa FROM ekko

    COPING SCRIPT
    There are some Standard Sap Scripts in SAP. We cant directly execute them in scripts we have to use some T-codes and by giving some input to the required fields we can see the output printform.
    I will show one example. There are some Standard Sap Scripts such as MEDRUCK which is a standard Sap Script for Purchase Order and RVINVOICE01 for billing and so on...
    To see oupt of MEDRUCK go to T-code ME9F give purchase order number and execute select one number and click on dislplay messages button on application tool bar you can find the print form of MEDRUCK.
    You cannot change the Standard Sap Scripts but you can use Standard Sap Scripts and Copy them to userdefined Script and can make changes to them and replace standard Sap Script with usedefind script.
    Ex: Go to SE71,
    on menu bar u find Utilities->copy from Client. click on it u ll find new screen showing
    Form name:
    Source Clinet:
    Target Form:
    give Form name as usedefined form name EX: ZFORM1
    Source client as 000 and
    Target form as MEDRUCK.
    execute.
    Now, the standard from MEDRUCK is copyied to your form ZFORM1.
    NOW, go to SE71 and give form name as ZFORM1 and do some changes to the form such as adding logo any thing. save and Activate.
    Now, you have done changes to the Form ZFORM1 and u have to replace your form with standard SAP Script.
    Go to NACE Transaction.
    on Applications select EF for purchase order and click Output types button on application tool bar.
    now select NEU as output types dobule click on Processing Routines.
    now click on Change option on application tool bar and on right side u find MEDRUCK in form place replace MEDRUCK with ZFORM1 and SAVE.
    go back twice and now go to T-code ME9F give the purchase order number and execute and select one option and click on display messges button .
    you will find the changes that you have done in ZFORM1. so we cant chage the standard Sap Scripts by copying the Standard Sap Scripts we can chage and replace with our forms

  • What is the command to create a jar file through Command Promt?

    Hi,
    I done my java project. Now i need to create a exe or jar file to fully complete it. I decided to create a jar file. Because, It'll support both PC and MAC. I exported my JAR file through eclipse. But that jar file loads without images and icons when it is in other directory. How can i include images folder in a JAR File.
    For ex:
    I have parent folder named "Support". Under this there is 3 subfolder namely
    bin - Classes
    src - java files
    images - image files.
    I need to create jar file to "Support" folder which should contain all the above mentioned sub folders.
    I need to execute this jar file anywhere which should not depend on the above mentioned folders which mean adding the images folder in that created jar file.
    Pls guide me for this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Mohan

    But that jar file loads without images and icons when it is in other directory.Images should be accessed via a URL rather than using a filename because they will exist as entries in the jar archive not as files. Typically this URL would be obtained by using the Class method [getResource()|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Class.html#getResource(java.lang.String)]. There are details in this [Java World article|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javaqa/2002-11/02-qa-1122-resources.html].

  • Don't know how to make my main class import a jar file

    OK, the title doesn't make much sense but here are my create-jar.bat and manifest files:
    create-jar.bat:
    jar cvmf manifest.txt dassimul-admin.jar player/ admin/ com/ connector/ common/ *.class
    manifest.txt:
    Main-Class: admin.DASAdmin
    the problem is that in connector/ folder there is the jdbc mysql connector driver (.jar file).
    in Eclipse I can add this jar to the Java Build Path, so the program runs.
    When I double-click the dassimul-admin.jar file, I get a Class Not Found Exception
    C:\MYWORK\dassimul>java -jar dassimul-admin.jar
    FATAL ERROR WHILE LOADING SQL DRIVER: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
    I think that the problem lies in the fact that admin.DASAdmin can't see and import the jar file in connector/ folder... am I right?

    It looks like you are putting the mysql jar file inside the dassimul jar. That won't work unless you write custom code. You should use the Class-Path attribute of the manifest to define a relative path(s) to the other jar(s) that you need to use.

  • How to load xsl-files out of jar-files

    Hi,
    I have included some xsl-files into a jar-file. I can access this files with the following code-snipped if the jar-file is local on my harddisk:
    ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getResource("pcodeliste.xsl").openStream()
    But the problem is that I use this jar-file as a part of a j2ee-application (it's a ear-file). After deploying this ear-file to my application-server (oc4j) I get a null-pointer exception if I call the xsl-file with the code above.
    Can anybody help me how to change this code or how to change the j2ee-application to have access to this files??
    Thank you very much
    Tobias

    Hi Rykk!
    Thanks for the answer, but it does not work since the jar, containing my file is inside an ear.

  • How do I list all classes in a Jar file?

    How do I list all classes in a Jar file?

    Its no problem if the jar file contains classes, but I have an EAR file, which contains a jar-file, and I want to list all classes in that jar-file.
    I would like to do something like this:
    java.util.jar.JarFile jarfile = new java.util.jar.JarFile( new File("/meYear.ear"), true );
    java.util.jar.JarEntry jar = jarfile.getJarEntry( "myJar.jar" );
    // Cast it to a new JarFile:
    java.util.jar.JarFile newJar = (java.util.jar.JarFile)jar;
    But the method getEntry returns something like jarFile$JarEntry, if I try to class cast it I get an classCastException.

  • How to access files outside a .jar file netbeans project

    Hi, i need to access a file outside a built project inside netbeans. Ideally i would like this file next to the .jar file as myapp.properties. If possible i would like it so that when i am compiling and running the project in netbeans the file can be with the class files or something along those likes. Either way it would be nice to have different code for built projects and just running them outside a jar.
    Heres what i got so far
    properties = new Properties();
                InputStream in = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("applications.properties");
                properties.load(in);
                in.close();this only works if the file is next to the classes. (think thats called the classpath ? )
    Thanks for any replies!!

    Your wrong code:
    properties = new Properties();
    InputStream in
    = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("applications.properties");
    properties.load(in);
    in.close();A right code:
    // basic assumption 1: applications.properties
    //  is a pure ISO 8859-1 text file
    // basic assumption 2: the file applications.properties
    //  is stored in the same directory where your
    //  jar file is stored
    properties = new Properties();
    try{
      FileInputStream in      // assume current dir
       = new FileInputStream("applications.properties");
      properties.load(in);
      in.close();
    catch (Exception e){
      e.printStackTrace();
    }

  • Problem in include library files into my jar file

    i am new to this jar archiving...I have created a GUI with java swings..and i also use mysql driver to connect my database now i want to make an executable jar file for my GUI..with coonector i have done the following
    I have compiled my program and placed all the .java and .class files in
    c:\ java\ bin\ jarexample
    next i created a manifest file called mainClass.txt which contains
    Main-Class: AppletMain (where AppletMain is my mainclass).. I placed this txt file also in c:\ java\ bin\ jarexample
    i m also set Class-path in manifest file Class-Path: mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar
    next i ran jar cmf mainClass.txt example.jar *.class mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin
    With this line, I told jar to create a JAR file (option c) with modifications to the manifest file (option m) as specified within mainClass.txt, naming the JAR file (option f) as example.jar and including everything that matches the pattern *Class and mysql connector
    now my problem is ...my MYSQL connection need some Library files from a package called org and class Driver.class to generate connection I include this library files also in my example.jar....
    But when i execute this jar file using :java -jar example.jar

  • Can Netbeans put a jar file In a jar file?

    I just went through the process of getting Eclipse to create a jar file that would execute from a command prompt using a plugin called fatjar :
    http://fjep.sourceforge.net/
    Details from other thread :http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5219638&tstart=0
    I really would like to use netbeans but i now have the exact same problem trying to make a jar file in netbeans 5.5.1
    I am using a package from icaste.com It has a
    .dll file to put in the windows directory
    JCommSerial_3_0.jar file that contains all the classes
    I can compile and run a file in the IDE and it works fine
    The Jar file does not contain the classes so i get errors when running from command line.
    Here is the layout of my screen and result of run command in IDE

    What do I need to try?

    georgemc wrote:
    Why is everyone so obsessed with doing this? The gains are minimal and the problems numerousBecause we are new and don't understand how the java VM actually runs code and the error messages sent by the java machine are cryptic.
    My first attempt at using an external jar in a java program lead me to believe that all of the code for a java program would be in a jar file including external jar files, after all the JDK standard library has tons of jars in it so I assumed the external jar file would be linked (as most other programming compiler/linkers I have worked with in my top down programming life).
    I find out the answer is so simple that the external jar file could not be found by the VM running my jar file. Like I said, if the VM would have just gave me an error that it could not find a file on a specific directory i never would have perused the idea of jar in a jar (fatjar plugin for Eclipse for example)
    Really this is like getting into a race car and not knowing at what RPM to shift gears, sure you can press the pedal and make it go but if you don't understand how it works under the hood you are going to blow the engine if you keep it in first gear.
    I have read many posts on these errors, the reason is the error message is just not very descriptive of the original problem. If I try and open a database called xyz.dbf that has one field defined as lastname, in C for example, I would not give the error message "Lastname could not be found) when indeed the lastname could not be found but the reason it could not be found was because the database xyz.dbf could not be found. Further , adding to the error message that the system is looking for xyz.dbf on drive X- subdirectory -mydatabases would complete the error message and allow the user to fix the error. Just what is a non java programmer that is using my java program suppose to do with an Ecception Error in (main) bla bla bla... I know now I need to check for library files myself within my own java programs and give a better error message to the user before the java VM sends out it's cryptic message.

  • Jar Files in a Jar File - Classpath Error

    Hi,
    I created a jar file that will have all the class files of the application. In the manifest file class path, I have the jar files the application is dependent on. The dependent jar files were kept outside of the application jar file. I was able to execute the main file in the application jar file. Then I created another jar file that holds all the dependent jar files the application is dependent on along with the application jar file into one super jar file. configured the main class attribute of the super jar file to that in the application jar file. When I try to execute it, I'm getting an error saying Class Not Found. Can someone guide me in setting the classpath for this super jar file in its manifest file.
    Presently my manifest file classpath variable in the super jar file is set as App.jar Depend1.jar Depend2.jar
    Thanks,
    E H

    Java's standard class loaders do not support jar files inside of other jar files, and will give the error you see.
    You can write your own customized class loader, use a 3rd-party solution (onejar at sourceforge is one), or remove the interior jars.
