How to name a cell

omg the most basic thing and I cant find it anywhere...how to name a cell? Instead opf refering to a cell as "a9", I would like to refer to it as "total"

Generally you can't name cells in Numbers. That being said... you can enable a feature in preferences for Numbers call "Use header cell names as references":
If you enable this then when you assign a row header and column header you can refer to cells as the combination of the corresponding row and column header name. e.g.
Most of us do not use this feature but I cannot think of specific reasons why. I hope this helps

How to "lock" a cell reference in Numbers??

HELP! I am a recent convert from Windows based machines to Apple. I am very familiar with Excel and need to figure out how to do something in Numbers....
I need to know how to lock a cell reference so that when you drag the formula down or across it keeps the same cell reference. In Excel you can do this by picking the cell and then hitting F4 to either lock the column, row or both.
Anybody out there help a newbie?? Thanks

Thanks Jerrold, I'm using them that way. My request has to do with
using them as an Absolute Reference versus a relative reference.
If I specify a header ref for a cell in a formula, when I drag that
formula to some other cells I want Numbers to treat it as absolute,
ie. as if I had said $A$5. What I am finding is that it does it's default
behaviour, ie. it is translating the formula reference to a new cell just
as it would do for a reference like A5.
ie. with header references, what is the equivalent of specifying $A$5?
($header name doesn't work ).

I am new to check boxes. I have a existing report where I have to add a check box to the selection screen.
So i said
PARAMETERS: p_cncldc AS CHECKBOX.
everythibng is fine and I get the check box on the selection screen. when i execute the report i get the name of check box as p_cncldc. but i want the name of the check box as "Want Free Gift".
How to name the check box as "Want Free Gift".
if i am saying
PARAMTERS: Want Free Gift AS CHECKBOX. it says a syntax error saying it canot be more that 8 chars.
Some one please help. I am new to Check boxes

Wayne found the Spinning Beachball of Death, and you will find it too.
Numbers is not good at handling large datasets. Might I suggest that you group your data into smaller sets (each month, perhaps?) and save each group in a separate Numbers document. Numbers will not link between documents, but you could have a summary Table within each document. Then comes the "clunky" bit of copying all those summary tables into a master document where you do the final processing of the data.

I previously could lock tables in my Numbers tables in my Spreadsheets by tapping the top left corner and it would show up as an option to lock it. As of Numbers 2.0 (noticed today), I get the option to unlock tables, but not to relock them after making the corrections.

Delete as in "delete the contents of"? Select the cell and hit Delete
Delete as in it goes away and other cells shift into its place? Not a feature of Numbers. You can delete an entire column or row but not a single cell. You can select surrounding cells and move them up or over one cell, thereby overwriting the cell to be "deleted".

I have spent a lot of time to find out how to outline selected cells during drag in the jtable, but I did not find the answer.
Can anybody give me a tip, where to read more about this problem or even better, give an example...
I have the following situation:
1.Table has 10 rows and 10 columns
2.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_INTERVAL_SELECTION) and setCellSelectionEnabled(true)
3.user select 5 cells in 4th row (for example cell45,cell46,cell47,cell48 and cell49)
4.user starts dragging. During dragging an outline should be drawn. Outline should be a rectangular with width of 5 cells and height of one cell. Outline should move according to the mouse position.
5.rectangular disappears when dropped

How to switch off 'Cell Info' in Lumia 925

I recently bought Lumia 925. I am getting constsnt messages pertaining to 'Cell Info'. They keep on appearing once in every few seconds & pile up in a huge number. You can not make a call unless you acknowledge all of them, which takes huge time, alternatively I have to switch the phone off & on & make a call after re-boot!!
I was using Nokia E 63 earlier. It had a setting facility for 'Cell Info' on or off. I do not find any setting facility for 'Cell Info' in Lumia 925.
Please guide me how to set the Cell Info off, or I will have to discard this Lumia 925

a) I tried with SIM of other service provider : There were no troublesome flash messages. b) I contacted my service provider: Airtel: After trying for tremendous patience with support number 121, somehow I could convey the message about what was happening. My call was transferred to a senior person, who promised me that these 'Flash' messages would stop in half an hour. It did not happen. Once again through 121, once again the promises, nothing happens. I personally visited Airtel support centre. Again nothing happens. c) I tried my old E 63 & switched off Cell Info with the same SIM. I am not able to use Lumia 925 because of Flash messages accumulating every few seconds.
Conclusions: I have to change my service provider Or Phone Or Both. – Now I may go for the last option with frustrations.

Hey big one,
I don't believe you can split cells in Numbers 3.2. It has not been not considered a good practice because it can lead to trouble down the line. This is true about merging also. I used to do a lot of that in '09. What I have found that I can generally get the looks I am after (getting text to span multiple columns for instance) by turning off "wrap text in cell" and playing with the justification.

I tried the oracle forms demo "OLEEXCEL.fmb" . But this form is not working correct .
I need to embed ole2 in my form that holds excel sheet and passes values from text items to the excel sheet.

2- Right Click and choose insert
3- from the dialog i chosed Excel Sheet
4- I placed a button on my canvas then i on the button I write this code
