How to open files using the Windows associated program?

I have a LV program that is generating a list of files that I may want to open using the associated Windows program. Some are standard Office files but others require proprietary analysis programs.  All have Windows associations such that I can double click on the file name in the Windows file manager and launch the appropriate program. I would like to mimic this behavior within my LV program but without coding a case for each file extension, some of which I may not anticipate now.

There are some problems with that VI.  I have one user that I had to track a problem down with trying to open a PDF file.  Their registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf was read in with a value of "AcroExch.Document                 " (with a lot of spaces after it), which prevented this VI from finding the next key (AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command) which identifies the path to Adobe Acrobat.  Instead of getting the path to Adobe Acrobat, I got back "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Document" as the path (see attached error).
I checked the key with the Windows registry editor, and it did NOT show the extra spaces.  However, just opening the key and selecting OK (without making changes) was enough to clear the problem.
Not sure if this problem is with the registry keys that Adobe Acrobat created when it was installed or upgraded (the user was on version 9.0, but there are older versions on that machine, too), or if the problem was with the LabVIEW registry key readers in Open a Document on Disk.vi.

  • How can we print using the windows printer dialog window?

    Hi,
We recently got new printers and a printer setup on our server that are set to print in greyscale as a default. In the past the printers defaulted to printing in color. When I create VI's and reports I have used to set "Print on completion" or the print option from the Report Generation Toolkit, and I have received my prints in color. After changing the printer drivers on the server any printing method I used to do from LabVIEW will always produce greyscale prints. These prints are fine for everyday use, however we need color prints when the documents are for customers or for other official use.
If I could only send documents/VI's to that process the user could override the "greyscale" setting and select "color" in the cases where we need a better looking print. Obviously the other option is to save the document/VI as a file and later print it from any windows software (Excel, Paint etc.).
Do anyone have any neat tricks for printing using the windows printer dialog?

You can change printer settings programmatically via a .NET assembly. You can also bring up the Print Dialog to change settings manually before printing.

  • How to open files from the SAP DMS (DOC Mgt. System) ?

    Hello All,
I making the Transaction CV04N in BSP.
When I execute this CV04N I should give a DOC Nr and the list is generated for this DOC.Now in the List if I select one Record and then Press Display Icon then the content of this list is opened in a new window in it's respective format (PDF,Word,GIF,Image file  etc). These are stored in the SAP DMS.
I want to open a file from this SAP DMS .
This can be done in ABAP using the standard FMs. But in BSP we can't use these FMs as it will call a screen.
    The Fm which I'm using is " DOCUMENT_SHOW_DIRECT ".
In Report prog. To this FM I'll pass the
    a, DOC Type
    b, DOC Number
    c, Document part and
    d, Document version.
then It'll directly open a PDF file in a new window.
But in BSP how should I acheive this as the FM calls a screen internally.
The content of the documents are stored in the DMS. Is there any TCODE or Table to get the files from the DMS ?
How should I proceed ? can any one help me out.....
    Regards,
    Deepu.K

    Hello All,
I found the FM : <b>CVAPI_DOC_OPEN_CAD</b> which wil return the file path.
But when I execute this in my BSP since the FM internally calls a screen it fails.
But can anyone tell me the alternative for this.
Should I create a FM omitting the GUI code ?
I found one more thread which says that I can use classes starting with cl_gos*.
But all the classes use a gui.
Dowload a document from R/3 DMS to BSP page
Am I wrong in the interpretation of the logic from the above thread ?
    Please suggest me .
I too went thru the BSP Applications <b>CVAW_ENTIRE, CVAW_DOCUMENT_DISPLAY.</b>
But these are used to display only the <b>thumbnails.</b>
There is no code for displaying other formats like PDF,XLS etc.
Please correct me if I'm wrong and let me know the correct path to solve my problem.
    Regards,

  • HT204382 Can anyone tell me how to open files in the format 'radio.ram' ?

Can anyone tell me how to play files in radio.ram' format, as an add-on to QuickTime or whatever?

Wow, that's a name from the past, Real Player.
    And it worked.
It's a product that I'd completely forgotten about going back to my days struggling with Windows on IBM clones and shows that I haven't tried listening to streaming Internet radio in a long, long time!
Thank you very much, Varjak, for your help.

  • How to open files with the trackpad?

    Hi,
On my old Powerbook, I could open documents with a double tap. On my new Macbook Pro, I cannot do this. I have to press Control and then the bar under the trackpad. Is there a better shortcut to opening docs?
    Thanks.

How new is that MBPro? It appears that the preferences you have are different from mine and that they support the additional gestures (as on the Mac Book Air). Methinks you should try the box "Tap to Click" under the single finger gestures as the next items Dragging and Drag Lock are what follow the box I suggested earlier on mine.
If it doesn't work, turn it off and try something else.

  • How do open files in the "downloads" directory of Firefox (right clicking does not work)?

In the toobar settings and I have it set to download files and programs on to my desktop-it does not. Instead all downloads go the "downloads" file and when I attempt to open these programs or files with a right-click or any other technique-it does not work.
If at all possible, please call me to resolve this issue at (714) 392-2280. Thanks.

    Hi Milesb,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. The [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes] Knowledge base article will help.
You might also want to take a look at [[Preferences are not saved]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • After uninstalling Premiere CS6 using the Windows uninstall programs, Premiere still appears in list

I'm trying to reinstall Premiere CS6 and I notice that according to the Creative Cloud manager, in the app list, Premiere is still listed as being installed, which is now not letting me reinstall the app.
How can I remove Premiere CS6 from this list? I used windows control panel to uninstall Premiere CS6 family and also the CC cleaner tool, but this app still appears in the CC admin app list. How can I remove this so I can reinstall?

-CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed

  • Reproducable program locks when opening files using finders "Today" filter

    Hi,
I am experiencing lockups (have to force quit the programs - which works) in different software products when I try to open files using the "Today" smartfilter from finder / the open dialogue. This wil happen when I attach files to websites using a file-input in Safari as well as with Photoshop just to name an example. It happens every time. Don't know why - and sure, I can avoid using a workflow like this - but I think this is not normal.
Anyone else experiencing these problems? Seems to be related to snow leopard since I do not remember having had these issues in the past.
The filetype does not seem to matter. It happened with PDF's, Jpg's, PSD's, etc.

RollingRocker, did you ever get a solution for this? I am having the same problem. I produce a pdf using a JSF third party api called flying saucer, which actually uses itext to produce the pdf. I can attempt to produce the same exact pdf over and over and about 85% of the time the error occurs and the rest of the time the pdf opens successfully with no error. Obviously 15% of the time the reader is completely happy with this pdf, so it is not a malicious document in any way.

  • Can I use the Window XP bundled with MS virtual PC in setting up boot camp?

    Hi hi,
before having the new 24" iMac, I have MS office professional for Mac running on my 17" G5 iMac it. The bundle pack contains Window xp professional software running on Virtual pc program.
I want to install boot camp on my new intel mac but can i use the window xp program which is bundled with MS virtual pc software for setting up boot camp?
    please advise.
    iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Technically, so long as your bundled version is XP with service pack 2 then you should be able to use it.
Legally, no. When Windows comes with a PC, even a virtual PC, it's license is for an OEM installation. While it's still functionally the same as a copy you'd buy in the store its license is for use only with that PC it came with and no others.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • How do I set the Home Page for a newly open tab using the File Tab Menu??

When I open a new tab, is there a way to set the home page the new tab will use when it is opened, or will new tabs always be opened as blank pages?

I have new windows opening when I click on a link. Or when I click on the FF-Icon. New windows are the default setting.
When a new window opens, I get a Google home page and can instantly type in a search phrase.
With the above in mind, sometimes I want to keep search classes in the same window. In a sense I'm using the Window with no tabs, to generate a tab by using the File Tab option.
When a Tab is selected where new windows will launch a new page, and not a new tab, the process of forcing a new tab onto the window will produce a tab page that is Blank, and the new tab label description displayed in the tab area shows the words "New Tab". That tab's URL address bar is blank. Zip - nothing displayed.
When a blank page tab appears, I click on the HOME button you helped me remodel, and the "New Tab" description in the tab label area changes from "New Tab" to "Google".
My question was to ask, if there was a way I could do something to make FF4 do that Home page assignment on its own. In the early FF days I found you could sometimes go into the bowels of FF, find some form of INI or SETTINGS type file, look for a Keyword reference that would tell FF to do something different, and Viola, emotional issue resolved. In this case, I'm trying to "Gild the Lilly" by asking if you, or someone else might have a rabbit they can pull out of their hat, just like you did when you helped me move my Home button, and have that rabbit show me how to do something that default FF-Options section doesn't support.
Did I do a better job of explaining the issue this time?
    Thanks again for the response.

  • I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

The top screenshot is the Windows Open dialog box. All File > Open... commands in all Windows programs bring it up.   Try File > Open in Notepad for example.
It belongs to Windows not Adobe. You cannot change this because there is no such thing as an Adobe Open dialog box.
The bottom screenshot is Windows Explorer. It is Windows' OS File Browser, not an Open dialog.  It is not called up by Photoshop or any Windows program.
You have to click on "My Computer" or a Folder icon to get to it. You can double-click a psd, jpeg or other image file in the Explorer window so that it opens in Photoshop.
There is Adobe Bridge and Minibridge   Alt + Ctrl + O or File > Browse in Bridge

  • How to restrict "Open Applications" window from showing C drive? Or use the Windows Explorer "Open" Window?

Hi, Im new to JDeveloper and I work in a school which requires restriction of the C: Drive. Does any one know how I can either stop the "Open Applications" dialog from showing this drive or Use the Windows Explorer "Open" dialog window to browse files, the drive has been hidden and restricted using GPO but JDeveloper shows the C: drive?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Hi and thanks Timo. We are using 12c. On the Windows side of things, we are using Win7 and we have hidden the drives we don't want the user to see using GPO but obviously Jdev then shows these drives in its "Open Applications" Window and allows access. As far as the environmental variable is concerned this is something that I put in place.
Many thanks for your reply and the link to the tech doc.

  • How to open appleworks file in the WINDOWS.

I use the MAC 8.6. I want appleworks file can use in the windows. How i can use applework file in the windows.
Thank you very much for your help.

As suggested in Michael's post, what you do depends on what translators were supplied with the version of AppleWorks you have installed.
With the file open, go to the File menu and choose Save as...
In the Save dialogue, look for a popup menu to choose the file format in which you can save the file.
If there are Windows applications listed in the menu, choose one of them.
If not, choose RTF (if available, although I recall some problems with moving RTF files from Mac to Windows or vice versa), or Text. Neither of these will transfer graphic objects. RTF will keep some text formatting. Text will transfer only the raw text.
If the Windows user has ClarisWorks or AppleWorks (same or newer whole number version) installed, you should be able to transfer the files as AppleWorks files, making sure that you add the .cwk suffix to the file name.

    Barry

Your answer also taught me to be a little more persistent, as I had started looking at Preferences, and just didn't notice the icons (including Applications) at the top of that window that would have led me to my answer.
