How to pass file reference to c

Hi,
I want to pass file reference pointer to a dll written in visual c++. How can i do that?

What do you want to do with that reference in your C code? if you want to access it using OS File IO functions you have to be very careful! You should not mix LabVIEW nodes and OS platforms calls together. It's either one or the other.
If you can guarantee that what you want to do is configure the Call Library Node (CLN) parameter to Adapt To Type. Then right click on the CLN and select "Create C Source Header" or something to that meaning. Save the resulting file to disk. Open it and copy the function prototype into your C/C++ file. There should be a parameter typed LVRefnum *. Now you can use the LabVIEW manager C function MgErr FRefNumToFD(LVRefNum refNum, File *fdp);
You need to link your DLL with labview.lib in the cintools directory in order to be able to call the FRefNumToFD() function. The value in the fdp reference is the platform specific file handle, so for Windows this is a HANDLE.

  • How to pass file name as parameter into url: or fo:external-graphic src

    Hello gurus,
    In my rtf I want to dynamically get the name of the image file and display the image in the report. If use hard coded image file name it works but if I try to get the name into a variable and pass that variable it is not working.
    Basically my client is having different logos for each operating unit. in the OA_MEDIA directory there are separate logos for each OU. during run time based on OU name we need to display the corresponding image. If I can get this entire path($OA_MEDIA/logo.jpg') in XML field<?CF_OU_LOGO?> then I'm able to print the logo using url:{CF_OU_LOGO}
    But I'm using seeded data source and I cant modify the data source, I need to handle this in RTF only. I could able to get the file name into a variable but not sure how to pass to url.
    could some one help me on this. I tried the following options
    <fo:external-graphic src="url($ln)" />
    url:{$ln} in web etc...
    here 'ln' is the variable which holds '$OA_MEDIA/logo.jpg'. ln is defined as <xsl:variable name="ln" select=".//CF_OPERATING_UNIT" />
    later I set the values as <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX, 'ln',translate( concat('${OA_MEDIA}/','Logo',.//CF_OPERATING_UNIT,'.jpg'),' ',''))?><?xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, 'ln')?>
    thanks,

    What version of EBS is the customer running? I read somewhere that in R12 all of the concurrent parameters are passed to the XMLP template. I have not tried this but if true. You could create a conc program parameter that would hold the location of the image. You could either have the user pick the image or maybe derive it from the other parameter choices.
    Lets assume the token name is DLOGO you can reference that in your template.
    <?param:DLOGO?>
    this needs to be at the top of the template. Then where you need to embed the image just reference the value using
    $DLOGO
    You can embed this in the external graphic field
    As I mentioned I have not tested it yet, hopefully its there, if not there are ways around it. Try it first.

  • How to get File Reference of a properties file from EJB

    Hi,
    I am using Sun App server 7 with Oracle 9i. I am keeping all my SQL statements in a properties file from which I am loading it while making a database operation from Stateless beans. My problem is I am not able to get the reference of the properties file. Here is the code through which I am getting the SQL statements loaded to a cache.
    String sqlFileName = "SQL.properties";
    sqlCache.load(new FileInputStream(sqlFileName));
    From the cache I am sending the SQL statement depending on the key value. But the problem is I have to keep the SQL.properties file on the App Server config directory of the instance where the server.xml file resides. Otherwise it is not able to find the properties file. But I don't want to put the properties file on the config directory of the server instance. Please help how to get the properties file from the packakge. My file is residing inside a package com.company.sql . Botht the properties file and the class accessing the file are residing in the same package. Please help how to get the reference of the file with out putting the file in the config directory.
    Thanks

    Just wanted to warn you of the hazards if you read a file from EJB
    So please make sure that these hazards will not affect your application. However the solution suggested to use getResourceStream() concurs with ejbSpec
    This snippet is from suns blueprint on ejb
    Why can't EJBs read and write files and directories in the filesystem? And why can't they access file descriptors?
    Enterprise beans aren't allowed to access files primarily because files are not transactional resources. Allowing EJBs to access files or directories in the filesystem, or to use file descriptors, would compromise component distributability, and would be a security hazard.
    Another reason is deployability. The EJB container can choose to place an enterprise bean in any JVM, on any machine in a cluster. Yet the contents of a filesystem are not part of a deployment, and are therefore outside of the EJB container's control. File systems, directories, files, and especially file descriptors tend to be machine-local resources. If an enterprise bean running in a JVM on a particular machine is using or holding an open file descriptor to a file in the filesystem, that enterprise bean cannot easily be moved from one JVM or machine to another, without losing its reference to the file.
    Furthermore, giving EJBs access to the filesystem is a security hazard, since the enterprise bean could potentially read and broadcast the contents of sensitive files, or even upload and overwrite the JVM runtime binary for malicious purposes.
    Files are not an appropriate mechanism for storing business data for use by components, because they tend to be unstructured, are not under the control of the server environment, and typically don't provide distributed transactional access or fine-grained locking. Business data is better managed using a persistence interface such as JDBC, whose implementations usually provide these benefits. Read-only data can, however, be stored in files in a deployment JAR, and accessed with the getResource() or getResourceAsStream() methods of java.lang.Class.
    Hope this info helps!

    Hi, I met some problem when I use shift register to store file reference, please refer to attachement.

    Are you testing this VI by itself or as a called subvi?  LabVIEW will automatically close the file reference once the top level caller stops running, even if you don't close it in code.  The ref info will remain in the shift register but it's no longer valid.  This means it passes the not a ref test but Close File can't use it.  I threw a loop around your code to keep it running(as if it were a subvi) and everything worked.

  • Drag and Drop - Transferable, how to pass a reference? (URGENT)

    I've a tree that supports drag and drop correctly but every time I exchange a node position the old parent instance remaining on the tree is different from the one I was referencing with the dragged child before the drag occurred. I absolutely need to maintain all references and cannot work with copies.
    Is there any way to use the Transferable interface to pass the original object instead of a copy?
    Thanks to Tedhill who raised the problem, trying to get a quick answer.

  • How to pass character references in JDOM?

    Friends,
    I am trying to pass a binary file over XML(over HTTP POST), as an element, like
    <file>
    <data>here goes the binary file</data>
    </file>
    This is only part of the XML, and I am trying to use JDOM to build the XML tree.
    I am using Element.addContent(String binarycontent) method to set the text for the <data> element. The file has invalid XML characters(like characters less than 0x20), so I am escaping them using character references like &#10;
    etc
    The real problem is JDOM interprets the & character and this gets passed as &amp;#10;
    which is useless on the server side.
    Is there any way to signal JDOM not to interpret the text I use in element.addContent(text) and escape them? Or is there any way to insert a character reference?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    XML files can only contain text. This is a law of XML. Instead of trying to hack around it like you did, you should encode your binary data into text before you put it into the XML. Then, of course, to get the binary file back out you would need to decode it. One fairly common and well-documented way to encode binary data into text is the Base64 encoding, which is described here:

  • File adapter - How to pass File name and path at runtime

    Hi gurus,
    We want to use PI 7.0 as an ftp server and expose the config as a webservice where the service consumer can pass one or more file names and the path to pick them and drop them on a fixed ftp server.
    So precisely, I need to be able to set the file name, target directory parameters in both sender and receiver file/ftp adapters at runtime. is this possible at all ?
    I am aware of passing Adapter specific parameters from sender file adapter to receiver file adapter to create the same folder structure and file names. But my requirement is different. I hope I am clear.
    Could I please get some advise on this .
    Thanks & Kind Regards,
    Jhansi.

    Hi Jhansi,
    Either you can go ahead with dynamic configuration as said by other SDN'ers. Else can go with Java Mapping:
    Here is the code for Java Mapping:
    import com.sap.aii.mapping.api.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.text.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class GetDynamicConfiguration implements StreamTransformation {
    private Map param;
    public void setParameter(Map map1) {
    this.param = map1;
    public void execute(InputStream inputstream, OutputStream outputstream) throws StreamTransformationException {
    try {
    AbstractTrace trace = null;
    // a) Set ouput File name
    String directory=null;
    trace = (AbstractTrace)param.get(StreamTransformationConstants.MAPPING_TRACE );
    param.put(DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/Dynamic", StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION), "");
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) param.get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File", "FileName");
    DynamicConfigurationKey key1 = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File", "Directory");
    String filename =conf.get(key);
    conf.put(key, filename);
    trace.addInfo("File name is "+filename);
    if(filename.equals("in.txt"))
    directory = "/home/ftpxi/in";
    if(filename.equals("test.txt"))
    directory = "/home/ftpxi/in/test";
    if(filename.equals("shweta27.txt"))
    directory = "/home/ftpxi/in/test";
    trace.addInfo("Directory name is "+directory);
    conf.put(key1, directory);
    // b) Just copy input file to output file
    byte[] b = new bytehttp://inputstream.available();
    inputstream.read(b);
    outputstream.write(b);
    } catch (Exception exception) {

  • How to pass EJB reference as a parameter?

    Hi,
    I am calling a method of EJB2 from within EJB1. I have done the lookup and got the reference of EJB2 to be called. One of the parameters of the called method (of EJB2) is the EJB remote reference of EJB1 so that EJB2 can call a method of EJB1. How do I send this remote reference. Can someone details in terms of actual code.
    Thanks,
    Prasad

    "One of the parameters of the called method (of EJB2) is the EJB remote reference of EJB1 so that EJB2 can call a method of EJB1."
    In all probablility, this is a design flaw.
    "How do I send this remote reference."
    Use javax.ejb.Handle objects.
    "Can someone details in terms of actual code."
    No.

  • Applescript help - can't pass file reference

    Hi - This is doing my head in !
    I have an Automator script that encrypts a PDF and then runs an AppleScript within the Automator workflow. The result of this workflow is a filename I need within another calling Applescript.
    So in the Automator workflow I have the following code:
    set the new_item to (move item target_name of the temp_folder to container of the source_item)
    end tell
    return new_item as alias
    When I view the response in the calling Applescript I see this:
    "{alias \"Macintosh HD:Support:test-28 (encrypted).pdf\"}"
    How do I consume this in my Applescript ?? I need to get it into a POSIX format or something I can use.
    Can anyone help ??

    Sorry - I posted this in the wrong forum. I have reposted in Applescript. Apologies.

    I am trying to pass a file into a java method so I can read the file from inside the method. How can I do this? I am confident passing int, char, arrays etc into methods as I know how to identify them in a methods signature but I have no idea how to decalre a file in a mthods signature. Any ideas please ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Just go thru the URL,
    http://www6.software.ibm.com/devtools/news1001/art24.htm#toc2
    I hope you will get a fair understanding of 'what is pass by reference/value'.
    You can pass Object reference as an argument.
    What Pablo Lucien had written is right. But the ideal situation is if you are not modifying the
    file in the calling method, then you can pass the String (file name) as an argument to the called method.

  • How do you pass vi references from one event to another

    I have a vi which gets vi references (thereby loading the vi's into memory) for all the vi's in a given directory when a user clicks a button on the front panel. To do this I use an event structure. My question is whether it is possible to have another event (user button on the front panel) which unloads the vi's from memory. I have tried passing the vi references that are initially generated to the close reference function but whenever I do I get a 'vi reference invalid' error. Does this have to do with trying to pass the vi references between one event and another? If I use a local variable simply pass a reference to another indicator and then probe it, the originally-generated refnum and the local vari
    able refnum match up. However once I try to wire that same indicator to the close reference function I get the 'vi reference invalid' error. Is there a different/better way to unload the vi's from memory based on a user button click? Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Several problems with your code:
    1... Bad idea to use lights as buttons. Yes it can be done, but it's not "natural".
    2... If you've gotta do that, set their mechanical action to "LATCH WHEN RELEASED"
    3... Because of #2, you are getting TWO copies of every array when you click the LOAD VIs light (er... button).
    4... No need for the conversion from path to string and back - use BUILD PATH to append each file name to he folder path.
    5... Set the BROWSE OPTIONS on your PATH control to EXISTING DIRECTORY to allow browsing of directories, not files.
    6... Your code doesn't care whether the file is a .VI file, or a .ZIP file, or a .TXT file, or what. Use the PATTERN input on the LIST function to discriminate.
    7... Your code is only storing the latest refer
    ence, not the array of references.
    8... An ERROR DIALOG on the OPEN REFERENCE function will tell you that you're getting an error. Why? You are asking to prepare a non-reentrant VI for reentrant execution (why use options = 8?)
    9... Because of #8, the latest VI reference is invalid.

  • How can I create dynamic file references in Power Query?

    Hi all,
    I'm new at using PowerQuery, and so far I like it. There's one thing I am struggling with though... Once I have set up my PoweQuery connections, I don't find an easy way to change the file to which the query is connecting. I'm using it for a monthyl recurring
    process, and every month the source data to query on woudl be different. The same in format/structure, but just a different dataset.
    Is there a way to make the source setup more dynamic? Can I for example in a parameters sheet enter the name and path of the new source file and update the queries?
    Currently the Advanced editor shows me following file reference:
    let
        Source = Excel.Workbook(File.Contents("Z:\Templates\EMEA\Source Data Tables\EMEA_EW_Source_Data_for_Power_Queries v1.xlsm")),
    Thanks in advance for suggestions

    Yes, this is something that you can do with Power Query. Here's how you can do it:
    Create a table in Excel containing your parameter value. Let's say that it has one column, called ParameterValue, and one row.
    Create a new Power Query query that gets the data from this table. Call the query something like ParameterQuery.
    In your original query you will now be able to reference values from your parameter query by saying something like this:
    Source = Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(ParameterQuery[ParameterValue]{0})),

  • How to pass values at runtime in JDBC - XI - File scenario

    Hi friends,
    In my scenario, data is coming from R/3 and i need to filter records from oracle database based on this data. There are 4 database tables that need to be queried using 2 select statements. The resultset after the execution of query will be mapped to the target flat file structure.
    here are my queries:
    1) Can I avoid BPM as data needs to be collected from the two database calls which involves two sender JDBC adapter instances with only one target structure?
    2) Can I use stored procedure in this scenario? If yes, than how to pass values to stored procedure at runtime via sender JDBC adapter.
    Thanks and regards,
    Nitin aggarwal.

    Hi Nitin,
    "..So i want to know if i can write multiple select statements in the stored procedure.."
    Read the below line that is mentioned in the SAP help documentation fro Sender JDBC adapter:-
    <i>Specify an SQL EXECUTE statement to execute a stored procedure, which contains exactly one SELECT statement.</i>
    I dont think it can be achieved...but there must be some workaround for this. You can probably use a join statement.
    Read this, again from the documentation:-
    <i>The expression must correspond to the SQL variant supported by the relevant JDBC driver. It can also contain table JOINs.</i>
