How to plot dates on X-axis in Numbers?

Hey all, need help!
Have a two-column data layout, with dates in first column and values in second.  For example,
April 12, 2009 465
July 16, 2009 329
Sep 2, 2009 528
Nov 21, 2009 503
I'd like to plot this as a scatter plot and see dates on the x-axis (a la Excel).  Alas, all it shows are numeric equivalents on the x axis, in very large numbers.
What's the trick or solution to this?
(I have spent a good half hour rummaging the boards here and Googling to no avail.  I did discover the DUR2DAYS trick for doing a related graph in the spreadsheet... perhaps there's a formatting trick here, too.)

BUMP!
Anyone?

  • How to plot data in a chart?

    I'm trying to plot data from a table in
    a ChartControl object. The table consists
    of two columns, one contains a numeric
    value and the other contains a date value.
    I'd like to plot the numeric value on the
    Y axis and the dates along the X axis.
    I've got the same data displayed in a grid
    format, and that's all fine.
    This seems like a simple enough thing to
    do, but I haven't found a basic page of
    documentation to guide me in the right
    direction. How do I do this?

    Use Reshape array to turn your 2-D array into a 1-D array.  You will need to wire in a constant of 40 since you will have 40 elements in your new array.  Convert the 1-D array to a cluster with Array to Cluster.  Right click on that function and set the size of the array to 40.  Wire that cluster to the waveform chart.  Now each of your 40 values you get after the double For Loops will run will append their new data to the 40 lines on your waveform chart.

  • How to plot data on a cartesian plane, with a twist.

    I am completely new to LabVIEW. I would like to read in a tab-delimited txt file with about 80 columns and 560 rows of data. When a particular piece of data is above a certain "limit," I'd like to plot a '+' sign on a cartesian plane. When the data is below another "limit," I'd like to plot a '-' sign. When the data falls in between the two limits, I'd like nothing to appear on the cartesian plane.
    I think I can handle opening the text file, but how should I read in the data. Then, how do I use the 'draw text at point' tool when the value is outside certain limits? Again, I have no experience with LabVIEW in terms of arrays and things. Any ideas on a path forward, where I should start, and how to do what I'm trying to do?
    The txt files contain thickness data across a sheet of product. The product has 560 data points across(X-axis) and 80 sets of data from top to bottom(Y-axis).
    Thanks

    I bet you could just use Read Spreadsheet File.  If you type in where your file is to the File Path, and it looks backwards, change the True/False constant to True on the block diagram (this transposes the data as it reads it in).  If you need more significant digets, change the %.3f to %.6f (or whatever you want).  Finally, if it's comma delimited, or something else, you can change the string constant thing (\t would represent a tab, \n = new line - just search in the help menu for formating stuff).  Hope that helps.  If it's not crucial to use +'s and -'s though, I would seriously try to use that intensity plot.

  • How to plot data from a GPIB function generator

    I am doing a litle application with Visual C++ and the ComponentWorks++ to
    control a GPIB device. I am tring to Plot a CNiGraph with data coming from
    the GPIB function generator. I use the code below to write/read the device
    and to Plot the graph. It give me some results but for exemple, if I
    request a sin wave it give me something that doesn't look like a sin and if
    I request a square wave it give me about the same wave... So I want to know
    if the problem is in my code or maybe it's because my device is just a
    emulator not a real func generator. But I guest I am doing some kind of
    convertion error.
    CNiInt16Vector vBuffer(100); // Should I try CNiReal64Vector or something
    else ?
    m_Visa->Write(m_strC
    ommande); // Write to the device, this works well
    m_Visa->Read(vBuffer); // Is it the right way to do reading ?
    m_Graph.PlotY(vBuffer); // This Plot some data, but it doesn't seem right
    Could somebody bring the light on this?
    Thanks alot!
    P.S. Sorry for the bad english...

    I have two suggestions about common problems in VISA.
    (1) How is m_Visa defined? There is occasionally some confusion about which VISA class should be used for this purpose. CNiVisaSession is the class designed for this purpose.
    (2) How is the instrument returning data? Usually instruments return some sort of header before the actual data.

  • Plotting Data on a fixed time axis from left to right

    I am plotting data on a Historical Trend graph from the DSC palette. I receive the data from a plc throughout the course of a production shift. I would like to have the start time of the shift (07:00) on the far left of the x-axis and the end time of the shift on the far right (15:30). I would like to plot the data from left to right as the shift progresses. Is this possible? How do I format?
    Many thanks for any input,
    Stuart Wilson

    Hi Stuart,
    All you need to do is place down a waveform chart and then modify the properties slightly in order to achieve this. If you right click and make sure autoscaling is turned off on the x-axis first of all, then go into the properties page and change the x-axis formatting to absolute time then you will be able to plot data with the actual time according to your system clock.
    The only problem you have now is that there probably isn't enough room on the chart to plot data for the entire time between 09:00 and 15:30 depending on how often you want to sample. The default number of data points to keep in the chart is 1024. Therefore if you try and change the max and min values to 09:00 and 15:30 then it won't allow you to set that up as it doesn't think you have enough room there. Right click on the chart again and go down to Chart History Length. Increase this number to a large enough number and then you will be able to set the start time to 09:00 and the end time to 15:30 and as long as autoscaling is turned off this will not change.
    Hope this helps, please find the attached example which will plot random numbers to a chart once a minute and the chart will plot data between these times.

  • How to plot waterfall graph in vb6 from offline data

    How to plot waterfall graph in vb6 from offline data?The data load from SQL Server Database.Thanks.

    asrol,
    If you look at the Plot Styles example in the folder I mentioned in the previous post there is a section of code there that you might want to refer to in order to recreate your data.
    '=============================================================================
    ' Plot Curve Button Handler
    '=============================================================================
    Private Sub PlotCurve_Click()
        ' Create curve data
        Dim x(40)
        Dim y(40)
        Dim z(40)
        For i = 0 To 40
            x(i) = Sin(i / 3#)
            y(i) = Cos(i / 3#)
            z(i) = i
        Next i
    In this example they create 3 arrays to represent the three dimensions of the array. For your case if you were to plug your data into two of the array (axes) that would give you the data for the channels, then you can simply input a constant for the third array it would produce a single line of your data as shown in your example GIF.  You can then repeat this process for each set of data, with a new constant value for that third axis, and it should manually create a graph that will look something like you desire.

  • Xy scatter plot with 2 y axis how to?

    I am interested in an making an XY scatter plot with time points as
    the x axis, and with 2 different y axis.
    As I mentioned, the x axis
    will have the different time in min., that the data was collected, and
    the 1 y axis would contain a particular measurement of the sample, and
    the other (2nd) y axis would contain a different type of measurement
    of the same sample. The problem is that I can't see how to do a 2 y
    axis XY scatter plot.

  • How to display date(instead of number) along y Axis of column chart?

    Hi there,
    I have a requirement wherein, I have to display date on y Axis and projects along x axis. This is basically a milestone chart. Something like this:
    here's my code:
    <mx:ArrayCollection id="acProjects">
            <mx:Object projId="A1" projDesc="Execution of Civil Work" plandate="2009-12-23" actualdate="2009-11-25"/>
            <mx:Object projId="A2" projDesc="Installation of Equipment" plandate="2010-02-15" actualdate="2010-03-25"/>
            <mx:Object projId="A3" projDesc="Comissioning of Equipment" plandate="2010-05-30" actualdate="2010-06-15"/>
            <mx:Object projId="A4" projDesc="Handover to regular use" plandate="2010-04-23" actualdate="2009-03-30"/>
        </mx:ArrayCollection>
    <mx:ColumnChart id="columnchart1" width="100%" height="100%" color="black" dataProvider="{acProjects}">
                <mx:horizontalAxis>
                    <mx:CategoryAxis categoryField="projDesc"/>
                </mx:horizontalAxis>
                <mx:series>
                    <mx:ColumnSeries displayName="Planned Date"  xField="projDesc" yField="plandate"/>
                </mx:series>
            </mx:ColumnChart>
    But with that code i get something like this:
    Generally, by default, the Y axis is always numbered. Is there a way where we can change it to display date?
    Appreciate your help...

    I would use an ObservableList (probably backed by a LinkedList) of XYChart.Data to store the collection of "deleted" data points. Create the buttons as usual; your "Remove" button's event handler should remove the last element of the series and add it to the first element of the deleted items data points. The "Add" button should remove the first element of the deleted data points and add it to the end of the series. You can bind the "disable" property of the remove and add button to Bindings.isEmpty(series1.getData()) and Bindings.isEmpty(deletedDataPoints), respectively.
    Something like
    ObservableList<XYChart.Data<Number, Number>> deletedDataPoints = FXCollections.observableList(new LinkedList<XYChart.Data<Number, Number>>());
    removeButton.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
      @Override
      public void handle(ActionEvent event) {
        deletedDataPoints.add(0, series1.getData().remove(series1.getData().size()-1));
    addButton.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
      @Override
      public void handle(ActionEvent event) {
        series1.getData().add(deletedDataPoints.remove(0));
    removeButton.disableProperty().bind(Bindings.isEmpty(series1.getData()));
    addButton.disableProperty().bind(Bindings.isEmpty(deletedDataPoints));The other approach would be to use a separate List for all the data points, and keep an integer variable storing the number of data points displayed. Your "remove" button would decrement the number displayed, and your "add" button would increment the number displayed. Both would also call
    series1.getData().setAll(allDataPoints.sublist(0, numberOfDisplayedPoints));You might even be able to make the numberOfDisplayedPoints an IntegerProperty and bind the data property of the series to it in a nice way. This approach probably doesn't perform as well as the previous approach (using a stack of deleted points), because you are not directly giving the chart as much detailed information about what has changed.
    Both approaches get problematic (in the sense that you need to carefully define your application logic, and then implement it) if the underlying data has the potential to change.

    AND epp.project_role_id = per.id )
    group by pro.project_name,pobj.name,tas.name
    order by pobj.name

    Standard syntax on the Mac is Object, Action. The order is always Select an object (in this case, part of a spreadsheet), then perform an action on or with tat object (in this case, make a chart).
    The same syntax applies to Copy or Cut (and to Paste, althyough it's not as obvious there—the object is whatever is currently on the Clipboard).
    I don't think there is information on printing charts/graphs in the online help. A chart is a graphics object, and is printed as part of the document that contains it. Printing the spreadsheet should also print the chart, provided it is on a page that contains data (AppleWorks's default is to print only the rows and columns that contain data). If you want to print the chart without any of the data, drag the chart over the data to conceal it, and choose the Print options that do not show column or row headers and the cell grid. (These are probably in the AppleWorks options in your Print dialogue, but their position will depend on your print driver.)
    Placing the object (the chart) in another document provides an easier method of printing only the chart, and the method you used (dragging the chart from the spreadsheet to the second document is a common and acceptable one. Dragging an object from one document to another places a copy of the object on the second document, and leaves the original on the original document. This is true in general, not just for charts.
    In the case of a chart, the copy is a static object, while the original maintains its live connection to the underlying spreadsheet—changing a graphed value in the spreadsheet will change the graph to match the new value, but will not affect the copy in the second document.

    Barry

  • How to Use 2 Separate Y-Axis in Report generating Tool Kit

    Hello
    How do I make 2-Y-Axis chart on Word document from Report Generating Tool Kit?
    Now can make Chart to appear in Word document with Multiple plots, but all plots go to same Y-Axis.
    I want to put in chart two Plots with Same X-Axis, but different Y-Axis.
    I know it is possible manually in word, but how  can I do it with Labview RGTK?

    hmm, yes. I guess that is the only alternative. But is there anyone who has made something similar in the past?
    I am not sure how to interpolate this data to an array of 30 000 data points without loosing data in the beginning.
    Since it is exponential, the first few dozen datapoints are at really low freq. All about 10.xx Hz and increasing.
    Then in the end of the array, i have like one datapoint at 15kHz, one at 15,5kHz etc. Will be alot of gaps in my array and alot of lost data in the beginning I think.
    It's strange though that labview doesn't allow for waveform, or atleast let me put an XY-array into these methods since i believe always you want an logarithmic freq-axis when having a frequency-response to handle.
    Anyway, anyone who has a nice little VI that interpolates data like this?
