How to remove dg broker and create 2nd physical standby?

We have a dg broker setup 2 years ago for our production DB for DG standby. But we never used it. It kept down since then. However, we still have the configuration in the database like this:
Primary:
log_archive_config string DG_CONFIG=(dxp1p, DXP1P_STD)
log_archive_dest_1 string location="/u04/dxp1p/archive", valid_for=(ONLINE_LOGFILE,ALL_ROLES)
log_archive_dest_2 string SERVICE=DXP1P_VA MAX_CONNECTIONS=3 REOPEN=60 db_unique_name=DXP1P_STD
dg_broker_config_file1 string /u01/dxp1p/data/dgconf1.dat
dg_broker_config_file2 string /oracle/product/10g/dbs/dr2dxp1p.dat
dg_broker_start boolean FALSE
1st Standby:
log_archive_config string DG_CONFIG=(dxp1p, DXP1P_STD)
log_archive_dest_1 string location="/u02/dxp1p/archive/" , valid_for=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) db_unique_name=DXP1P_STD
dg_broker_config_file1 string /oracle/product/10g/dbs/dr1dxp1pdr.dat
dg_broker_config_file2 string /oracle/product/10g/dbs/dr2dxp1pdr.dat
dg_broker_start boolean FALSE
When I tried to logon to dgmgrl, got this message:
ORA-16525: the Data Guard broker is not yet available
I would like to remove the dg broker and let the current standby continuing running normal. Plus I would like to add another standby database to the primary at different location. I tried to change:
log_archive_config to 'read, receive, nodg_config'
log_archive_dest_2 to 'SERVICE=DXP1P_VA LGWR ASYNC=20480'
It seems breaking the archive send, and got the message from alter log:

I changed back right away since this is critical production DB. Maybe it works, but I may not wait enough long time for the archive send resume? I will also need to create 2nd standby. My plan is to remove the dg broker, since this is not used for long time anyway. To add 2nd standby by changing the primary DB parameter log_archive_dest_3.
Please advice. Thanks!

    Swati,
You can delete the substitution by using an API jdr_utils.deletedocument('<path>').
The path will be like 'oracle/apps/ap/xx/customizations/0/server/...'

Yahoo Messenger by default installs a number of extras such as the Yahoo toolbar and a browser plus plugin. There are a couple of places to check to uninstall these. First is the add-ons manager, for details on uninstalling via the add-ons manager see the [[Uninstalling add-ons]] article. If the Yahoo toolbar is not listed there, you can check the Windows control panel. The BrowerPlus plugin will probably also be listed in the control panel.
You should be able to remove it from the Windows control panel.
    * From the Start menu, select Control Panel
    * Open the list of installed programs:
** If in icon view, click Programs and Features
** If in category view, under "Programs", click Uninstall a program
    * In the list of programs select the program, and then click Uninstall.

  • Create a physical standby for Rac on Windows and raw devices

    Hi buddies:
I need to create a Physical standby database for a 2 node RAC cluster on Windows, that is using RAW devices.
Can someone of you suggest me a note to follow in order to achive this, i can not find to much information about how to do this.
I guess that the best option would be to use RMAN to do this, but as i said before i havent found too much information.
I would really appreciate your help.
    Kind regards
    MQ

In this case the standby should be created as a single instance on regular files.
Do i have to specify something different in the duplicate rman command to specify that the standby database will be a single instance?
    Thanks for your help

tell us what your research shows and we'll try to

Your research could have included looking at the documetation, and you might have found http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/scenarios.htm#sthref1642

  • Creating a Physical Standby Database

    Hi,
    I'm reading Oracle® Data Guard
    Concepts and Administration
    10g Release 2 (10.2)
    B14239-04.
In 3.2 Step-by-Step Instructions for Creating a Physical Standby Database chapter it says :
3.2.1 Create a Backup Copy of the Primary Database Datafiles and recommend RMAN to do that.
    And in
3.2.4 Copy Files from the Primary System to the Standby System
Use an operating system copy utility to copy the following binary files from the
primary system to the standby system:
    ■ Backup datafiles created in Section 3.2.1
    Finally

sorry , I did not finish.
    I continue
    finally,
3.2.6 Start the Physical Standby Database
Step 1 Start the physical standby database.
On the standby database, issue the following SQL statement to start and mount the
    database:
    SQL> STARTUP MOUNT;
I wonder , how to transform RMAN backup files to data files ? It is not explained or it is not necessary ?
    Many thanks.

  • How to change the database character set on physical standby database?

    Hi,
We have a database with character set WE8ISO8859P1 and migrated the character set to WE8MSWIN1252 using csscan/csalter scripts. This database has a physical standby database setup also and after the migration, the physical standby database is still showing the character set as WE8ISO8859P1. How can I change the characterset on the physical standby? I raised a Service Request with Oracle, and they said that recreating the standby database is the only supported way of changing the char set on the standby database. Is this true?
    Thanks,

  • Clarification on creating a Physical Standby Database

I'm practicing with data guard with Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 on two Windows 2003 servers.
I'm in the process of creating a physical standby database by following the steps outlined in the guide http://www.filibeto.org/sun/lib/nonsun/oracle/10.2.0.1.0/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ps.htm
I've created the primary database and did a cold backup of all the datafiles and copied them to the standby server using OS commands. I've created a pfile from the spile in primary database and changed the needed parameters for the standby database.
What I don't understand is this statement I think is creating a control file for the standby database: SQL> ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS '/tamp/standby.ctl'
Exactly what I don't understand is what to do with this control file. I'm thinking that if I try to use it as the controlfile for the standby database, the standby database will refuse to open since the database name in the control file wont match the one the server expects.
I don't want to proceed until this becomes clear. So my question is what to do with the output of the above statement that seems to create a control file for the standby database.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    You're thinking wrong.
Please clarify the difference between db_name and
    db_unique_name.
Db_unique_name needs to be identical for both primary
    AND standby database.
If db_unique_name differs, you'll get errors.
    Sybrand,
Perhaps, you meant DB_NAME has to be identical for both databases.
DB_NAME name has to be the same for both primary and physical standby database.
DB_UNIQUE_NAME should be unique for each database in the standby configuration.

If you configure Logical Standby Database, DB_NAME may be different.
For the original poster: Chapter 3 - Creating a Physical Standby Database of Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration has all the steps you have to do in order to configure a physical standby database.
