HOW To Remove Dock Spacers Via Termianl Command

One of the Mac websites offered a way to add spacers to your dock through a command line statement like this:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'
Now this worked beautifully on my Mac Pro and I was able to add two spacers to the application side of the dock. On the Mac Pro I can easily drag these spacers to a new position or drag them upward and off (deleting them).
I have a new MacBook and it should work the same, right? The spacers were created but I can't move them nor drag them off the dock.
In another post someone suggested deleting or removing your Dock's preferences (which will reset it to the defaults). This file is located at /Users/"Your username"/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Dock.plist.
But there is NO com.appleDock.plist although there is a comp.apple.dockfixup.plist although I am apprehensive to delete it.
Does anyone know how to remove a spacer using the Terminal's command line? I can't think of any other way to remove these spacers on the MacBook.

Ok. I found an answer. The removal of the comp.apple.Dock.plist did return my dock to its original setup. I was not looking in the "Users" directory. I moved it off to my desktop and restarted the MacBook. It came up with the default dock. I'll have to bring back my apps but other then that, it worked.
Sorry for wasting your time but maybe this answer will help someone in the future.

  • How to remove dock icon on Mac when main stage is hidden?

I'm trying to implement a "minimize to system tray" functionality, where when the user closes the app's window, it disappears from the task bar and can be retrieved from the system tray. This works great on Windows and Linux, but on the Mac, the window closes, but the app's icon remains in the dock. Clicking on the dock icon focuses the app, but (perhaps unsurprisingly) does not open the window, which is a pretty bad user experience. Opening the window from the system tray works, so if I could just hide the dock icon I'd be there.
I found the undocumented PlatformImpl.setTaskbarApplication(false), but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Probably only does something at launch time.
    Bug or feature?
(I'm using the new Platform.setImplicitExit(false) to keep the app from exiting when the main stage is hidden, but I see the same behavior when using the "create an off-screen dummy stage" kludge in 2.1.)

Whatever you did last time didn't work - don't try that again!
Back up everything before you begin.
Bootcamp Assistant (in Applications/Utilities) will remove Windows partitions, however I expect in this state it will remove the Windows 7 partition. It may resolve the issue, but it will delete all the Windows data. Perhaps Bootcamp Assistant does something extra compared to deleting the partition by hand?
If it still has the multiple boot icons you will have to erase the HD completely and then restore your OS and user data.
Do you really want to erase & start over for this minor issue?

  • How to remove a patch via smpatch in fail safe mode

    After installing patch
    139556-08 SunOS 5.10_x86: Kernel Patch
my system can not restart. Even after uopdating my boot archive the "normal" boot process fails every time and the system keeps restarting.
I would like to remove the patch in fail safe mode, but I do not know how to do it, when my system is mounted under /a.
Any advice, or alternative of how to get my system back online, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

I had the exact same problem with the same patch. I brought up the box in failsafe mode, mounted the zfs filesystem where my patches were located, cd'd to the patch directory, then re-applied the patch using:
patchadd -R /a 139556-08I didn't bother to do a patchrm first. After I re-ran the patch, I also did a force update of the boot archive,
    bootadm update-archive -R /aFollowed by
shutdown -i 6 -y -g 0And everything was good. Seems there are a number of folks having trouble with this kernel patch.

  • Dock Spacers can't get removed!

Sooo... For the sake of organisation I added in these "Dock spacers" via messing around with terminal and inserting the command "
    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}' " and then " killall Dock "
The thing is, I want to rmy computer, and to do so I want to reorganize my dock. I want to remove all of the Dock spaces I have right now and add new ones later after I finished remodeling everything else (folders, aliases, etc.)
My problem is that I can't remove the dock spacers. I'm unable to select them and remove them from the dock like instructed on every other Dock Space related webpage, this includes moving them around (they're practically empty spaces that can't be altered). Any hints on how to fix this?
    My operation systems are:
    Macbook air (2011 or 2012, can't remember) Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

This could be due to MCX policy settings used to manage your dock. These can be used to integrate to Open Directory in an OS X server environment, Active Directory (with the right tools and/or configuration), or other LDAP directories.
Look for '/Library/Managed Preferences/<yourshortusername>/com.apple.dock.plist' for this one.
Another possibility is that one of these two locations carries the configuration:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.dockfixup.plist
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Default.p list
You can use the plist editor from the XCode toolset or use the 'defaults' command from the command line to edit these.
    My money is on MCX.

  • How to remove shelf beneath dock?

Under previous OS X releases it was easy to remove the shelf beneath the dock leaving just icons and little white lights under those icons in use.  To do that you would:
How to remove the Leopard Dock shelf
    Got to:
    Macintosh HD
    System
    Library
    Core Services
Click on Dock.app and hit Show Package
    Contents
    Resources
    Remove these graphics:
    frontline.png
    scurve-xl.png
    scurve-sm.png
    scurve-m.png
    scurve-l.png
    Copy them to another folder
    then delete them
    Now go to Applications/Utilities/Termarinal App
    Type:  killall Dock
Now when you burrow down to the png images in the Resources folder you can find/remove the frontline.png image but the "scurve" images are no longer there and Apple has probably renamed them something else.
The shelf is one of the most annoying aspects of the desktop.  It isn't cute or clever but detracts for the overall look and takes up far too much screen space at the bottom of the page.
Has anyone figured out which images must now be deleted from Mountain Lion to effectively remove the dock shelf?

Here's the answer:  A free application called TransDock X from nothinggoes dot com.  Go there, download, install - you'll have to open your preferences -> security and change Mountain Lion's default restricting you to using only 'authorized' (i.e., App Store only) applications to "any" applications then run TransDock X.
Does a beautiful job.  Removes the shelf entirely.
You may wonder why I dislike the shelf so much.  I run my Mac Pro using two 30" Cinema Displays.  That's 5 feet of display.  When the shelf is displayed I can't figure out what apps are running because the little white light beneath them is now so close in color to the shelf itself.  AND, the shelf simply takes up too much screen space, is distracting and very annoying.  Remove it and all you see are your favorite or most used Dock app icons and if any are in use there is just a little bright light shining beneath them.
By using "spacers" I can display my Dock apps in groups - systems apps like iTunes, Mail, App Store, Dashboard, Finder, Launchpad as one group then a space and the next group: EyeTV, Media Editors, Toast, Apperture, Final Cut Pro, and others followed by another spacer and another group for TextMate, Pages, FireFox, Safari, SeaMonkey, etc.
Apple should give the user the option of many screen features including the ability to remove the shelf.
BTW - here's how you add spacers to your Dock as well as a Recent Applications Stack or Grid:
    Add Spacers to the Dock
If you want to divide the applications in your Dock into groups, the best way is to add spacers. A common method is to create "fake" applications with an invisible icon to fill the space, but that is a bit inelegant. A much better way, available in Leopard, is to use a Terminal Command. Each time you run the command it inserts a blank "space" into your Dock, which you can then drag around to where you like.
Start by opening up Terminal, located in Applications/Utilities. Type the following line and then hit enter:
    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'
For the changes to take effect you will have to restart the Dock, either by logging out and in again or by running the killall Dock command in the Terminal. The spacer appears at the end of the icons that are permanently in the Dock. You can then drag it along to where you want it.
    Dock Spacers
The above command inserts the spacer on the applications side of the Dock. To insert a spacer on the right hand side, use the following command:
    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'
As always, you will have to run killall Dock for changes to take effect (open the Terminal app and type: killall Dock - the Dock will disappear and come back up with the changes. To add multiple spacers just run the command again and again. Note that you can use the "up" arrow in terminal to automatically enter the last run command.
If you want to remove a spacer, treat it like any other icon in the Dock. Either drag it off and let go to get a nice puff of smoke, or right-click on it and choose "Remove from Dock".  And, of course, you can drag spacers throughout the Dock line to separate groups of apps.
    Add a Recent Applications Stack
You can add a Recent Applications stack to the Dock. To do so, open Terminal and type this command:
    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }'
After that, type killall Dock in the Terminal to restart the Dock and see your new folder. This is a great little Dock icon for using an app you used recently but is not generally held in your Dock.
    Enjoy!

"To remove an item from the Dock, just drag its icon onto the desktop.  By moving an icon out of the Dock, you aren't moving, deleting, or copying the item itself — you're just removing its icon from the Dock. • How to know and remove unused applications via pacman?[SOLVED]

Hello, I would like to know how to remove them...I mean those packages included [unused anymore] during installation of a specific app...I'm saving space for I only have an 8gb SSD on my Acer Aspire One...My cache are already empty [pkg]...:)
    Thanks in advance

What do you mean "included during installation of a specific app"? The only packages installed with a target package are those packages which it depends on, so you can't remove them if you want the target package to still work. To remove packages that you don't want anymore, use "pacman -Rsn <pkg name>". That will remove the package and it's dependencies.
To see which packages are "orphans", i.e. installed as dependencies for packages that are no longer installed, use "pacman -Qdt". You can remove all of those with "pacman -Rsn $(pacman -Qqdt)".
Take a look at the pacman man page too: "man pacman"
    EDIT
I just saw your post here where you state that you've been making packages with
    makepkg -s
Now I understand what you want to remove and why. The "pacman -Rsn $(pacman -Qqdt)" command will do this.
In general though, you should take the time to learn about the utilities that you're using. From the makepkg man page:
    -r, --rmdeps
Upon successful build, remove any dependencies installed by makepkg
    during dependency auto-resolution (using -b or -s).
    -s, --syncdeps
Install missing dependencies using pacman. When build-time or
run-time dependencies are not found, pacman will try to resolve
them. If successful, the missing packages will be downloaded and
    installed.
Instead of using "makepkg -s", you should use "makepkg -s -r" to remove makedepends automatically when you're done.

    Hi,

  • How to remove password for the recovery mode wizard which you get by pressing command   r while booting mac with mac os 10.10?

I've set that password long ago and now forgot on how to remove it.
Should I go to Apple store for this?

It's possible you set a firmware password, see if the password dialog is similar to the one on this site…
    http://osxdaily.com/2014/01/06/set-firmware-password-mac/
Those passwords prevent ALL startup key combinations. Confirm it also happens when you boot holding T (target disk mode - How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode - Apple Support) If that goes to the password dialog you have a firmware password set.
Apple suggest you take it to an Apple store to get it reset, you can't remove the battery or remove RAM to reset this, so only Apple should reset it.

    Hi all,

Is it possible to open a pdf in such a matter?
    Background:
We use a CRM, the CRM use of webdav to allow content changes. The CRM is written in JSP and use a java applet to start the appropriated application for changing the content of a document. This works fine for all sorts of apps (winword, texteditors), only acrobat has problems with approach.

  • How do i get a output in CSV of a SQL query executed via SQL Command prompt

    Hi All,
I have a question with reference to SQL command prompt. I have a sql query which runs properly and gives proper execution in SQL Management console in GUI.
This report is used to pull the free disk space report of our servers
As i want to schedule it as a report so i want to script it to run via SQL command prompt. I made the script and it works fine if i enter it in SQL command prompt. When i try to extract the output to a CSV File it fails. Below is the details of the command
i am using to query to pull the data. Can anyone help me in getting the output of this query in SQL command prompt.
    sqlcmd -W -s , -S Servers FQDN
    use operationsmanager
    Go
    Query:"select Path, InstanceName, SampleValue
    from PerformanceDataAllView pdv with (NOLOCK)
inner join PerformanceCounterView pcv on pdv.performancesourceinternalid = pcv.performancesourceinternalid
inner join BaseManagedEntity bme on pcv.ManagedEntityId = bme.BaseManagedEntityId
    where SampleValue < '20' and CounterName='% Free Space' and TimeSampled > '2014-08-06 11:00:00.00'
    order by countername, timesampled" -s "," -o "C:\DataSqlCmd.csv"
    Go
When i enter the command without the quotes when the query is starting and ending and also without the output command (-s "," -o "C:\DataSqlCmd.csv") it is working and shows the output in the command prompt. Below is the screen shot for
    your reference.
Due to security reasons i have to erase the server names:
But when i add the line to extract the output ( -s "," -o "C:\DataSqlCmd.csv") It gives me this error:
    The exact command would be:
    sqlcmd -W -s , -S CINMLVSCOM01.e2klab.ge.com
    use operationsmanager
    Go
    "select Path, InstanceName, SampleValue
    from PerformanceDataAllView pdv with (NOLOCK)

    order by countername, timesampled" -s "," -o "C:\DataSqlCmd.csv" -h-1
    Go
saying the syntax is not correct or some thing as per the below screenshot.
Can any one please help. Below is just the query whi i use to get the output in SQL management studio.
Can any one make a command for the below quer so i can directly execute and test for getting the output.

Can you try the below query?
    select Path, InstanceName, SampleValue
    from PerformanceDataAllView pdv with (NOLOCK)
inner join PerformanceCounterView pcv on pdv.performancesourceinternalid = pcv.performancesourceinternalid
inner join BaseManagedEntity bme on pcv.ManagedEntityId = bme.BaseManagedEntityId
