How to rename a View Link in a data model?

In JDeveloper 9.0.3, I create a simple BC4J project with a master and a detail. The business components are properly created.
When I try to design the data model for the module, I am able to link the view for the master and the view for the detail, there is no problem to rename the view objects that I select in my data model, but I found no way to rename the view links used between the view objects.
I always get an automatically generated name, like "FkForeignDetailLink1". This is what I see in the data model, and also in the structure of the module, in the "View Link Members" section.
I am able to modify the properties of this view link, but not its name. Am I missing something?
TIA

to clarify... In the AM wizard, you are trying to rename the instances of view objects and view links?
If so, you are right, there is no way to rename view links on that panel. We are working on a better way to do that for the next release. The only way I know of to rename the view links is to shut jdev down and edit the XML for the application modele. This can be dangerous if you get it wrong, so make a backup before attempting this. The hint with renaming things OUTSIDE JDeveloper, I already know, but I don't like much.
As for the AM wizard, I just noticed that I cannot do it inside. But that's no problem for me, as lots of details cannot be done inside the wizard, but there is a way to customize them afterwards. My real problem is that didn't find ANY way of doing it.
A question for you if I may. Why are you renaming the view link instances? I though most users would use the detail view instance directly. The detail view instance would in turn look up the appropriate view link into, what ever its name was. The only place where I saw the bad view link names displayed in JDev was the Structure pane of the AM, under View Link Members. But there is no way to modify them there. As for the detail view instance, I didn't find a place to get to the view link at design time (in 9.0.3.988).
Could you be more precise, please?
Thanks again,
Adrian

• How to get the view link definition from the view link accessor

Hi,
I am using Jdev 10.1.3 and ADF BC. I am trying to do deep copy in a master/details view, after the new child record is created, I want to update the foreign key attribute. I know I can get the list of attribute definitions from the row in the view object, which include the view link accessors, I am wondering if I can get the view link definition from the view link accessors, so that I can get the source and destination attribute names.
Thanks!

Hi,
you should get this through
ViewObject vo = this.findViewObject("LocationsView1");
int indx = vo.getAttributeIndexOf("DepartmentsView");
ViewAttributeDefImpl vAttrDefImpl = (ViewAttributeDefImpl) vo.getAttributeDef(indx);
ViewLinkDefImpl vdefImpl = (ViewLinkDefImpl) vAttrDefImpl.findViewLinkDefImpl();
Note that this code starts from the ApplicationModuleImpl class, which is why I used this.findViewObject().

• How to maintain several views of the same data and update a tree

I have an object UiUser, which is displayed in my application in several different views. There are three different views which all have the User object i.e. search results, user tree and user table. Each of the views has the same menu items, so the user can be deleted from any of the views.
What I am trying to work out is how should I ensure the item is updated in all of the views?
I can fire a property change event with the UiUser and update two of the views i.e. search results and user table, but how do I update the tree?
I thought of overiding the equals/hashcode methods of the UserTreeNode to compare uiUser.getId () and I could then search the tree and find the tree node of the required UiUser. But I have reservations about this whole approach as it just seems wrong.
Any ideas of how to keep N views in sync, I really don't want all of the views to have tree nodes as this equally seems wrong. This should be a simple problem to solve and I'm sure lots of people have done it, I'm just not sure which is the best approach to take.
Thanks

Hi Jan,
This is so because each installer has a GUID that is used to check whether the application needs to be upgraded or not. (It's a Microsoft function).
What you can do is create a new installer with a different GUID (copy the installer in the projects), and check witha text editor whether this GUID has changed.
But any specific reason you need two seperate installs? You can run the application twice with a specific INI token:

• How to create Spatial index in SQL Developer Data Modeler 4

Hi,
What is the procedure to create a Spatial index in SDDM v4 ? I ended up in a deadlock due to the following issues :
1) Reverse engineering missed the spatial index, so I need to add them manually.
2) Adding an index does not allow me to check the 'spatial index' checkbox, nor does it allow me to add the sdo_geometry column in the index definition.
3) When registering Spatial properties for a table, I cannot choose the Spatial Index name.
I came across an old post (Data Modeler - can't create a spatial indexes), yet this post is no longer valid since SDDM V4 does not allow me to create an index without columns (incomplete index definition).
Help is appreciated,
Kind regards,
Richard.

Hi,
One more thing : When doing a compare with the database (from which I reverse engineered) there was only 1 difference (apart from the storage details, which could be ignored by setting a parameter).
This is the Spatial Table property. This was set in the Model, but what would be the corresponding setting in the database ?
The Spatial Table property is set on import from the database if the "Spatial Properties" option is set for the import, and there is an entry for the Table and its owning Schema in the metadata view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA.
ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA is similar to USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA, but has an additional OWNER column identifying the schema that owns the table (as described in section 2.8 of the Oracle Spatial and Graph Developer's Guide: http://st-doc.us.oracle.com/database/121/SPATL/sdo_objrelschema.htm#SPATL545).
The fact that your table is not being treated as a spatial table suggests that either the import cannot access the view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA or it cannot find an entry for the table and its owning schema in that view.
Are any errors being logged to your log file when you do your import? (You can see the log by selecting External Log from Data Modeler's View menu.)

• How to create an exclusive relationship in IE Data Model

Hello Experts,
How can I specify exclusive relationships in the IE Data Model? I have a PERSON and a ORGANIZATION entity. Both have a relationship to an ADDRESS entity. The ADDRESS entity can only have a relationship to either PERSON or ORGANIZATION. How is this situation modeled in the IE Data Model?
Thank you,
Carsten

Relationships in the IE Data Model method are between only 2 entities. There is no way to directly model a three-way relationship that you are trying to use. The alternatives for modeling it in the IE method would be to use a generalization structure on one end or the other. You could generalize Person and Org into a higher level concept (typically called Legal Party or just Party) and draw the relationship from the new Party entity to Address. Or, you could subtype Address as either a Person Address or and Organization Address and draw relationships from the new subtypes to Person and Organization respectivley.
You could also choose to just annotate it on the diagram using either text or a graphic object.

• Can anyone describe how to cut and paste table columns in Data Modeler?

A number of times I have tried using the copy and paste columns functionality in Data Modeler, but in all circumstances when I've copied a set of columns from a table (by highlighting the column set and pressing the copy columns button), opened a new table, and pressed the paste columns at the end button, nothing has happened. is there some unintuitive thing that I need to do?

Ok, thanks.
I see I left "Copy" out of the first reply I sent.
1. Create a table or tables, say tables A and B.
2. Expand the table which has the columns you want to copy, say table A, in the browser
3. Shift (or ctrl) select the columns and select COPY from the context menu.
4. Click in the table you want to copy to, say table B, in the diagram and right-click to use the context menu , select paste
or select the table B in the browser and right-click, select paste.
Are you using the copy in the menu?
There was a bug in our Early Adopter that required you continued to hold the keys, but this has been addressed - you can read this thread to see how things were handled there: Re: Data Model: set of columns

• How do I zoom diagram in/out in Data Modeler 4?

I tried intuitive Ctrl-Wheel but it scrolled the model instead of zooming.
What are the mouse and keyboard shortcuts for zooming?

The Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons are on the toolbar after you have a model opened and accessible from the Model View Menu too. However I do agree that some keyboard shortcuts could be handy. Fortunately You can define custom keyboard shortcuts for those menu actions where there is no pre-defined one. I went to Tools/Preferences, then Shortcut Keys, searched for the Zoom word and found the Category: Data Modeler, Command Zoom In and Zoom Out and assigned the Ctrl-Alt-Up and Ctrl-Alt-Down combinations (these were not used yet for anything else) and it works nicely, plus the shortcut assignment is also visible on the View menu after you made the assignment.
Mouse Wheel actions? Might come as an enhancement but the keyboard shortcuts might be good enough till it arrives.

• How can I print, save or export from Data Modeler

From Oracle SQL Developer I select Tools > Data Modeler, then drag a few tables on the surface. Both Print and Save options in the File menu are disabled. Also, there's no export option. What is the purpose of Data Modeler. I', using SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.

It's Data Modeler Viewer included in SQL Developer 2.1. You need SQL Developer 3.0 or 3.1 EA1.

• How to create a view link between ViewObject Instance in nested AM

Hi all,
I am using JDev 11.1.1.0. I am a bit confused about working with nested AM
I have found the sample #33 in http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/ to solve my problem, where the link is created programmatically.
Is it that an old example? Because it seems to be that I can create the link in a declarative way in a tab of the Application Module.
What is the advantage of creating the link on runtime?
Thanks

This sample is really old.
If you can do the link declarative just do so. I guess this was not possible in the older version of jdev.

• How to upload different views of customer master data using LSMW-IDOC

I need to upload customer master data using LSMW Idoc method for my client. Now customer will have different views like main view, Sales data, Company code data, Partner function data etc. And except main data all other data can be multiple for each customer. We are going to upload data from tab delimited .TXT file. Should I propose different LSMW for upload different views for the customer from different .TXT files? or we can upload all the customer related data (like main view data and partner function data )from a single .TXT file. Kindly suggest which one in convenient and how we can prepare the data file in both cases.

convinient is the method that you can handle.
but as the guy who loads the data you have to load the data like they are available, like it is convinient for others to prepare the data.
In general there is no problem to use an IDOC method to load a customer master with multiple comany codes and several sales orgs in one shot.
the data can be in one source file, but need then to be maintained in a certain way
Example1: all data in 1 structure
GD1 - CC1 - SO1
GD1 - CC2 - SO2
GD1 - CC2 - SO3
in this case the GD (general data) is redundand in each line which has different Company code data or different Sales Org data
Example2: all data in 3 sturcures but one file
GD1
.CC1
.CC2
..SO1
..SO2
..SO3
Example3: data delivered in 3 files - you join the files in LSMW, they must have a common identifier like the old customer number in the beginning of each file
FILE General data:
GD1
GD2
GD3
file Compamy code data:
CC1
CC2
CC3
file Sales org data:
SO1
SO2
SO3
LSMW is flexible and can handle each of this scenarios, are you flexible too?

• How to use multiple selection parameters in the data model

Hi, after have looked all the previous threads about how to use multiple selection parameters , I still have a problem;
I'm using Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.3.2 and I'm tried to define more than one multiple selection parameters inside the data template;
Inside a simple SQL queries they work perfectly....but inside the data template I have errors.
My data template is the following (it's very simple...I am just testing how the parameters work):
<dataTemplate name="Test" defaultPackage="bip_departments_2_parameters">
<parameters>
<parameter name="p_dep_2_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
<parameter name="p_loc_1_param" include_in_output="false" datatype="character"/>
</parameters>
<dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="bip_departments_2_parameters.beforeReportTrigger"/>
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q2">
<![CDATA[
select deptno, dname,loc
from dept
&p_where_clause
]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_DEPT" source="Q2">
<element name="deptno" value="deptno"/>
<element name="dname" value="dname"/>
<element name="loc" value="loc"/>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
The 2 parameters are based on these LOV:
1) select distinct dname from dept (p_dep_2_param)
2) select distinct loc from dept (p_loc_1_param)
and both of them have checked the "Multiple selection" and "Can select all" boxes
The package I created, in order to use the lexical refence is:
CREATE OR REPLACE package SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(14);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(20);
p_where_clause varchar2(100);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
CREATE OR REPLACE package body SCOTT.bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
if (p_dep_2_param is not null) --and (p_loc_1_param is not null)
then
p_where_clause := 'where (dname in (' || replace (p_dep_1_param, '''') || ') and loc in (' || replace (p_loc_1_param, '''') || '))';
else
p_where_clause := 'where 1=1';
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
As you see, I tried to have only one p_where_clause (with more than one parameter inside)....but it doesn't work...
Using only the first parameter (based on deptno (which is number), the p_where_clause is: p_where_clause := 'where (deptno in (' || replace (p_dep_2_param, '''') || '))';
it works perfectly....
Now I don't know if the problem is the datatype, but I noticed that with a single parameter (deptno is number), the lexical refence (inside the data template) works.....with a varchar parameter it doesn't work....
So my questions are these:
1) how can I define the p_where_clause (inside the package) with a single varchar parameter (for example, the department location name)
2) how can I define the p_where_clause using more than one parameter (for example, the department location name and the department name) not number.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
Alex

Alex,
the missing thing in your example is the fact, that if only one value is selected, the parameter has exact this value like BOSTON. If you choose more than one value, the parameter includes the *'*, so that it looks like *'BOSTON','NEW YORK'*. So you need to check in the package, if there's a *,* in the parameter or not. If yes there's more than one value, if not it's only one value or it's null.
So change your package to (you need to expand your variables)
create or replace package bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(1000);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(1000);
p_where_clause varchar2(1000);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
create or replace package body bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
p_where_clause := ' ';
if p_dep_2_param is not null then
if instr(p_dep_2_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME in ('||p_dep_2_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME = '''||p_dep_2_param||'''';
end if;
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC IN ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || ' AND LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
else
if p_loc_1_param is not null then
if instr(p_loc_1_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC in ('||p_loc_1_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := p_where_clause || 'WHERE LOC = '''||p_loc_1_param||'''';
end if;
end if;
end if;
return (l_return);
end beforereporttrigger;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
I've written a similar example at http://www.oracle.com/global/de/community/bip/tipps/Dynamische_Queries/index.html ... but it's in german.

• How to combine sql queries of two different data models of a single RDF

Hi All,
Greetings.
I am on a task to get the sql query of a seeded report(Accounting Rules Report) with RDF named RAXARL.rdf
The RDF consists of 3 data models which consist of a sql query each and they are running fine individually.But I want all those three to be combined in a single SQL Query so that I can use it running a report in apex.
Can anyone help me do this? I am able to find a solution for this.
Thanks in advance,
Bhaskar.

Hi Bhaskar,
To get the SQL behind the report, run it with the Enable Trace option enabled (disable it after you get it).

• 10g Preview: No way to rename view link usages in AM

10g Preview (9.0.5.0.0 Build 1375), Win2k SP3.
I generated the entity objects, view objects, associations, and view links from my DB structure. I created an application module with the default data model from the view objects and view links.
I then renamed all of the view links using the Rename View Link dialog. The AM's xml file was correctly updated with the new names of the underlying view links, but the view link usages retained the old names.
There does not appear to be a convenient way of renaming the view link usages in the AM. The workarounds are either to deconstruct the data model and then reconstruct it, or to manually edit the .java and .xml files.
I would like to see, at minimum, the ability to rename the AM's usages via a right-click menu in the Structure pane. This would affect both view object and view link usages. Currently the only option available in the right-click menu is to edit the underlying business object, not the usage. It also would make sense to allow view link usages to be renamed from the Data Model page of the AM wizard.

That worked beautifully. I didn't have the property inspector open originally, so it's nice to know there is a way to rename usages after all.
I wonder if there's a usability issue here though... maybe it's just me, but with the ability to rename some things via the right-click menu in the navigator pane, it seemed natural to look in the very similar structure pane for the same sort of functionality. Now there's a third place to look. Perhaps if the right-click menu in the structure pane simply had a "Properties..." entry or something similar that brought focus to the Property Inspector, it would help the user understand that there's another place to try to make the desired changes.

• How to display hourglass while ADF view link is retrieving rows in a swing.

I posted this yesterday but did not get a solution, here is my posting again:
Hi All,
I have an ADF panel which includes several interdependent ADF View Objects and View Links. The query of the top view object might return several rows, then once user navigates from 1st to second row and so on, the dependent (child) view links display corresponding data. This is a swing app and not a web or jsf app.
Sometimes it might take 8 to 12 seconds for the corresponding data from child view links to be retrieved, during this time window the ADF Panel might appear to be frozen to the user.
So my question is what do I have to do so the ADF Panel would display hourglass while it is retrieving the rows for the corresponding child view links. If I have to manually update the java generated by Jdev, then what java line and where would I introduce it?
Your inputs are most appreciated.
Thanks.
