How to restore from an incremental backup when new datafiles are added

1) Source - We have a base backup and then take differential (LEVEL 1) backups every day. Due to business needs, new datafiles keep added daily in the database. So you will see an incremental backup having new datafiles that got created after the LEVEL 0 backup.
2) Destination - We want to restore this database in the destination host "continiously".
a) I first restored from the BASE FULL - LEVEL 0 . This was successful (restored and recovered, but did not OPEN the database)
b) But restoring a LEVEL 1 now on top of the already restored LEVEL 0 makes the restore start all over again if there are NEW DATAFILES added after the LEVEL 0 backup in the source database.
This is not a problem when no new datafiles are added/modified between the "BASE" and "LEVEL 1" backup.
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?
-Thanks
Srini

Hi Srini,
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?The recovery process after the restore should add the newly created datafiles on the destination host.
Can you check by querying v$datafile in mount mode and post the output?

  • Scrolling to next range in advanced table when new rows are added.

    I programatically implemented Add New Row in an advanced table.
    "Records Displayed" attribute of advanced table =10, so as log as I add upto 10 new rows the table displays 10 rows,if I add 11th record the new record is appended @ 11th position but I've to choose "Next" link on the advanced table to see the 11th row.Is it possible to show the last rowset in the advanced table when new rows are added?
    The underlaying VO executes the following code when "Add New Row" button is pressed:
    int rCount = this.getFetchedRowCount();
    int rangeSize = this.getRangeSize();
    int rangeStart = this.getRangeStart();
    if (rCount < rangeSize) {
    this.insertRowAtRangeIndex(rCount, newRow);
    } else {
    this.setRangeSize(rCount+1);
    this.insertRowAtRangeIndex(rCount, newRow);
    this.setCurrentRow(newRow);
    To scroll to the 11-20 rows (when added more than 10 rows),I tried with following options, but none of them helped:
    1) int newRangeStart = ( rCount / 10 ) * 10 ;
    this.setRangeStart(newRangeStart);
    2) this.scrollRange(newRangeStart);
    3) this.scrollRange(rCount);
    4) int newRangePage = rCount / 10;
    this.scrollToRangePage(newRangePage+1);
    5) this.getNextRangeSet();
    Please let me if it is possible to achieve.

    What happens if you just add the new row without specifying where to add it ? doesn't it add the new row on the same page as the last row ?
    Thanks

    How can I restore the photos which I restored in my iCloud Backup ?
    Does not restore ! Just remaims idle !
    Pls help !

    I fixed this issue after a lot of time and pain (see below)
    Seems to have come up on various threads so it seems to be an issue and should be escalated by Apple. They were none the wiser at the genius bar apart from telling me the iCloud backup is probably corrupted and I should call Apple care (as if that is going to do anything)

    I experienced the same problem with the iCloud restore not working properly. I had my iPhone 4 replaced as the home button was defective. When attempting to restore an 9.5GB iCloud backup from the day before it just would not work properly. Firstly, half my apps did not restore, they would begin to download showing the progress indicator then just disappear, leaving my home screen naked. No big deal as apps can be downloaded again.
    However, what was a big deal for me was the 1,625 photos on my camera roll, including many of the first year of my kid's life. The camera roll would say downloading x of 1,625 photos, download a few of them, then simply stop downloading any new shots. When I would restart the phone it did not show any downloading message, it believed the restore was complete. I tried about ten different restore scenarios, listed below, all of which gave me varying results (some resulting in all my apps restoring) but all of which would only give me some of my photos back.
    What was a comfort was that I once got about 700 of the shots back. So the photos were still in the cloud rather than gone and this indicated that it was the restore process or the iCloud backup on my phone that was the problem. These are the things I tried in sequence as I despairingly tried to get my photos back...
    Things I tried that DID NOT work
    1) Erase all settings and attempt to restore again from scratch (four times)
    2) Tried the restore from a different WiFi network (once)
    3) Tried the restore from one WiFi network then switched to another once the restore 'hung' (once)
    4) Tried the restore from an Apple store WiFi network (once)
    5) Tried the restore from a previous iCloud backup (twice)
    6) Had Apple replace the iPhone 4 (once)
    With all of these I got a varying amount of my photos and apps back before it stopped restoring. I was also making the mistake (I learnt afterwards) of opening and moving between apps during the download to check progress.
    Thing I tried that DID work
    1) Did not plug the phone into my MacBook, I used the wall charger only to prevent any iTunes sync activity
    2) Erase all settings and data, restore from the iCloud backup and input passwords in all the pop up windows once it reboots.
    2) Open photos app gallery to see photos downloading and show the progress message "downloading xx of x,xxx"
    3) Left it on this photo screen and did not touch the phone at all for the entire restore. I did not close the photo galley/camera roll app once, open any other apps.
    Finally this time round it work and all my photos and apps restored in full. I am going to go back to syncing with iTunes as I don't trust iCloud for restores. It seems that iCloud does not handle photo restores that well, especially if the gallery is large. In short: Wall charger only, restore from iCloud, open Photos app, don't touch. Really hope this works for you too if you've had the same issue.

  • How do I restore from an iCloud backup when it says no backups available?

    I have had to replace my iPhone 4S twice this week (long story).  I made sure in both cases that I was backed up to iCloud before I replaced the phone.  I triple checked to make sure the last back up date/time, backed up again and can see the backups when I login to iCloud online, but when I try to restore from back up it has told me BOTH times that no iCloud backup is available?
    Help?!  It took me forever to recreate my phone the first time and on't want to do it again?

    That would explain it. You can not restore a backup made on a newer version of iOS to a phone running an older version of iOS. (If you old phone had 5.1 and your new one has 5.0.1 or 5.0, you will need to update the new phone to 5.1 first).

  • How to restore from an incomplete backup

    Hi,
    I have an emergency situation. I had an iPhone 4S that I hadn't backed up in over a year on iTunes. I also never upgraded to any of the new iOS version so I guess it still had the version before the maps app was changed so I guess iOS 5? Anyways I was backing it up and my daughter either cancelled the backup or something went wrong and it never fully backed up. I never got to backing it up again and then a couple of days later my daughter dropped the phone in water and the phone got water damage. I then went and bought a 5S and tries to restore from iCloud. The backup is on the cloud but is listed as incomplete but is taking up over 8GB of space on the cloud so I am assuming something must have gotten backed up. It will not let me restore from that backup. What can I do to solve this problem. I have about 3 years of pictures on it that phone that I need to get back. To make matters even worse the computer that I had backed my phone up on over a year ago just crashed a couple of weeks ago so I don't even have access to that backup. I spoke to one of the genius at apple store and they have no idea what to do. Is there anyway to resolve this issue via apple or via some other third party application or software or company that I could pay who could fix this. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

    I don't think that you can restore your device from an incomplete backup. However I searched a little bit and found the following post. I hope it will help you further:
    If you have an incomplete backup on iCloud.  The best way to push that over is to set-up your phone as a new phone, then during the activation (select language, select location services, that part) select to restore from iCloud backup.  That was the apple tech's advise, but unfortunately that didn't help in my case.
    Another option is to get the iPhone Backup Extractor from Cnet and it will allow you to see what's backed up in your backup directrory (the path is: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\MobileSync\Backup\)
    The free versions has limitations when extracting, but I only used it to see what's there.  Once I saw that there were only 250 pics backed up, I knew that my 500 pics were gone.
    Finally there is an expensive solution via DriveSavers.com.  Apple has worked with them for years.  Every time you erase something on your devise, it's still there, it just gets assigned a value telling your operating system that the data can be written over what you (thought you) erased .  So those guys got the expertise to get you your data, but it's not cheap, with prices ranging from 400 - 1700.

  • How to Restore from a TM backup?

    Just been having problems with users, so before I started messing with anything, I forced a TM backup and noted the time 1600hrs local. I had backups going back all day but wanted one I knew the exact time of.
    I installed Time Tracker this afternoon, AFTER doing my forced backup.
    I then inserted the Mac Leopard Disk 1, restarted and choose Restore from TM backup. The latest backup I could return to when the machine rebooted was not the 1600hrs backup of this afternoon, but 0900hrs this morning.
    If I look in my TM drive folder, I can still see my 1600 hrs backup, but there is no folder for 0900....the backup I used to restore from.
    After rebooting the restored machine......I see in the Aplications folder Time Tracker....the app I installed this afternoon, after the backup was created.
    So when TM restores does it really erase the Mac HD ( as it says it does) or just overwrite the data...as would have appeared to have happened?

    this happens because the restore utility on the leopard install DVD uses Pacific time and when you boot from the hard drive it uses your set time zone. in fact you did use the last made backup when you restored.

    it does erase everything prior to the restore. full system restore is made on a blank drive.

  • How to restore from Time Machine Backup?

    I've used CleanMyMac to remove Aperture from MBP today. I think, that this almost destroyed my Mac. It seems that some fonts are missing, since some of the alert messages seems very strange. Further the dock is not appearing and generally it works very slow.
    I need to restore my Mac from the lastest backup. Unfortunately, I do not have a Snow Leopard disc and cannot use the "Restore System from Backup" utility: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/15638.html
    Will I need to get a Snow Leopard disc or are there other ways to do this?

    Good call.
    Very strange event here. I was replying to an alleged current post on Bootcamp or MacBook pro sections of these forums.
    Might something from  "The Twilight Zone" and it isn't even close to Halloween yet.
    More likely an iCloud "brain ****" event which we will have to become familiar with.

  • Help with Restoring from Time Machine Backup with new Hard Drive

    Hello. Recently, my hard drive died in my 24" Early 2008 Aluminum iMac. Luckily, I had a time machine backup, and I took it upon myself to replace the 320 GB Hard Drive with a 2 TB Seagate Barracuda disk. The hardware replacement (although difficult) went fine. Now, I'm having a bit of trouble restoring the new drive from my time machine backup. The new disk shows up in Disk Utility with the correct capacity. I formatted the new drive with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using my installation disk. My only problem is that the drive isn't showing up when I am choosing which drive I want to restore my time machine backup onto. I can pick out the backup I want perfectly fine, but I can't find the new drive. Any help?

    UPDATE: I restarted it (Classic IT Crowd "Have you tried turning it off and on" moment) and the drive shows up on screen. Right now, I'm waiting for it to "Calculate disk size needed for restore" and I'll keep you posted.
    UPDATE 2: Currently restoring. Let's see if it's successful.

  • 2nd External Drive - how to restore from Time Machine backup?

    I have had Time Machine configured to back up my photos and videos on an external drive. My Time Machine backup is a separate drive attached to my MacBook by FireWire. I have Leopard OS. I have in the past successfully retrieved deleted photos from the Time Machine backups using iPhoto.
    Now, unfortunately, the external drive with the photos and videos has developed a problem (possibly power-related) so that my MacBook no longer recognizes that drive. Obviously, this means that iPhoto can't find/open that photo library. Which means that iPhoto can't access the backup via Time Machine. Help! The photos must surely be on the Time Machine backup but I can't figure out any way to retrieve them.

    callipygia600,
    This one's easy. Purchase a new drive to replace the one that went "belly up." Format (erase) it using Mac OS Extended, and give the volume that will be created the exact same name as the bad drive. Navigate into the new (empty) volume in the Finder, then open Time Machine from the Dock.
    You should be able to navigate "back in time" and see the backed up contents. Select everything you see, and click "Restore." It will all be restored to your new external drive. The key is to use the same name for the new drive.
    In the meantime, your backup can be accessed in the Finder if necessary. Using the Finder, navigate into the "Backups.backupdb" folder on the backup drive, then into the latest backup. You will see one folder named for your startup disk, and another named for your secondary/external volume. Within that second folder you will find the items that were stored on the bad drive. You can safely copy these to another volume using the Finder, but do not attempt to move or modify them otherwise (do what you like with the copies).

  • How to restore from copy of HD when OS was Snow Leopard?

    I was running Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 17, 4 GB 1333MHz DDR3.  Finally vintage of computer and vintage of OS collided and I had to backup my files by copying my laptop's hard drive to an external hard drive. (Time Machine would not work.) Erased laptop HD and Apple Genious bar did a clean install of Mavericks 10.9.  I would now like to restore files (Users, etc.).  Can SetUp Assistant or Migration Assistant be used to do this from the folder which is the copy of my Snow Leopard hard drive?

    curious r wrote:
    So far I have looked at "Carbon Copy Clone" which does not seem to work for me as it seems to need a partitioned HD to copy it to.
    Wrong. CCC will allow cloning to a single partition. See this if you wish to preserve the files currently on the ext HD.
    With Disk Utility, you can dynamically create and delete partitions.
    I realize that CCC is uncomplicated and free software
    Not any longer. CCC 3.5+ is now a commercial product. See product information for details.
    I suggest that you start over with Disk Utility by wiping the ext HD, reformatting it with the GUID scheme, and creating the required partitions. I suggest one for Lion, one for ML, and one for your Music, Pictures, and important file folder. Make the OS partitions about 50% larger than what they are now. BTW, if those include your Music, Pictures, and important file folder, that might be overdoing things and all you'll need is two, one for each OS. Then, use CCC or other cloning app to make bootable clones of Lion to the partitions and then upgrade one of them to ML. I have partitioned my int HD and have bootable OSs and their clones, two each for SL, Lion, and ML. That's duplicated on two ext FWHDs.

  • How to restore from time machine to a new MBP

    We've bought a new MBP and would like to restore selected files from the TimeCapsule where the former MBP saved to.

    Ogelthorpe,
    Thnx for the reply, but...the legacy MBP will stay in the family and will be completely refurbished.
    We would like to retore the selected data from the TC from the legacy MBP to the new MBP, even when the legacy MBP is already in use after refurbishing.
    I can not find a solution for this situation in your reply.

  • When new events are added they are not in chronilogical order. How do I fix this?

    Whenever I would add new photos to my library, the new event would be created in chronological order ... oldest to newest.  To my knowledge I made no changes in my set-up, but now the newest event is created immediately before the oldest event.  In other words it will be listed first not last.  How can i change this so that events are listed in order.  (At this point I simply drag the event to the proper location.)  The only thing that is different now than any previous file is that some files are now in RAW format instead of JPEG.  I am using iPhoto '11; version 9.4.3.

  • Does iTunes U push notifications to iOS when new episodes are added to a course or collection?

    in iOS... when you add/edit content in a course or collection via course manager and site manager, does iTunes U then use notifications to alert subscribers?  if not, do edits simply appear when a subscriber opens said course in his/her shelf?  and how long do these updates usually take to post?  thanks to all in advance.

    There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
    Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
    You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's.  Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

  • Filenames keep duplicating themselves when new rolls are added!!

    I used to use an older Sony digital camera to take photos. Each of the photos filnames from that camera began with "DSC", now I use a Nikon D40 and those photos' filenames also begin with "DSC" and in most cases have the exact same filename from previous dates. I have so many photos that use the same exact filename that it is such a pain to locate each and every photo to rename each one differently everytime I import new photos. Is there a setting in iPhoto that would help create brand new filenames with each and every import so that I wouldn't have to rename them manually?? Or is it an issue with the camera??
    Ro

    Your camera names he files, and as Larry says, all iPhoto does is copy them over.
    Filenames are really irrelevant in iPhoto. It’s well capable of managing multiple files of the same name. What you can do is add a Title to a photo using the Info Pane (Lower left) or batch change many photos using the Photos -> Batch Change command. These titles are as searchable as filenames in iPhoto or any of the apps that integrate with it.
    If you want to use the Photos outside the iPhoto ecosystem then you can use the File -> Export command and use the option in the export window to use the Title as filename on the exported image.
    Options other than that include moving the files from your camera to the Deskkop first and then using a Batch Renaming utility such as Name Mangler prior to importing them.
    To find your pics...
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards
