How to restore the oracle 10g database

Hi all,
I am very new to oracle. I have experience in mssql and mysql previously.
Now we have a oracle application to work . I have an oracle database backup (mydata.bak) taken it from my client's oracle database 10g enterprise edition. Now I want to restore the .bak file at my place . I had installed oracle 10g enterprise edition. After that I had created a datbase called praveen by selecting archivelogmode. The database had created . I am able to login through enterprise manager for this praveen database instance.
Now I want to restore the backup file mydata.bak file into praveen database. May I know how to proceed further?
Please anybody help me out?
And basically what is the backup file format in oracle . As I know for mysql it is .sql and for MSsql it is .bak.
Plz buddies anybody help me out. It is very urgent

Hi..
Actually one of the employee related to my client had given me the backup file (mydata.bak). I don't know exactly which type it is?Can't you contact the concerned person at the client side.
May I know what is the difference between rman and cold backup?In cold backup the database is first cleanly shutdown, and then copies of all the datafiles of the database are taken(all of them in consistent stage).
RMAN backup is used more where you need to take the backup while the database is up and running.If the database is in ARCHIVELOG mode, then the RMAN backup can be taken while database is in open mode and if the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode, then in mount stage.

[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/part4.htm#BRADV44444]
Can I start restore by assuming the given backup file as cold and if is not possible by assuming cold backup? Better confirm and then start.

  • How  to get the oracle 10g database backup.

    Hi,
    i have installed oracle 10g.i need to get the back up of db.
    i have search so many sites.i didn't get much information.
    some guys tells we go to installed directory in that run"RAMNS".
    i am following in the process.after run the rams which commands
    i have to used to get the db back up.
    C:\Oracle\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\RAMNS
    RAMNS>...(here is the prob which commands i have to used)
    i have seen another way solution is you can use "imp" and "exp" present in BIN to take back up.(how to follow this)
    please help me,

    Would suggest you read the docs on backup, restore. if you cannot restore you db, you are in trouble. read it and understand it well.
    Summary:
    For 10g, you have rman, imp/exp and datapump import/export (replaces imp/exp).
    For very simple backups where you have windows you can shut down, run a cold backup. shutdown the database, copy the database files, and startup. i also take copies of the current pfile and anything else important to restore the database with. we copy the files to a dedicated backup file system, which go to tap, e.
    That will give you a simple option to restore.
    For prod databases, you typically want archive mode on which means you can run hot or online backups. just remember you have to have the archive logs generated during the hot backup. you now also have the ability to do a point in time restore.
    Exp or datapump exp can be used for metadata exports, full exports or partial (schema, table, etc) as needed. i typically run a cold or hot plus an export for redundacy and restore options, but db size will change how you back things up.
    You can find plenty of scripts to automate these. just understand how the scripts work and understand the process itself. if not, you will have trouble restoring when it is needed the most.
    Rman is also a good option with the latest releases.

  • How To Restore corrupted Oracle 10g Database

    Hello Guys,
    We have Oracle 10.2.0.3 database installed on Itanium server.
    1. One day we found some packages got invalid & not compiling at all with error –
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], [].
    2. Then we successfully restored the database from old RMAN backup of previous date that caused this error.
    3. After 2 days again we found the same error in alert_prd log -
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_STATS", line 19089
    4. Then for testing we exported database using exp command & found 3 tables are not exporting because of data block corruption issue.
    5. Then we truncated the data from all 3 tables and then able to export successfully.
    6. After all this we manually run SYS.DMS_STATS job but found same error logged in prd_alert log.
    This looks like, still database block corruption issue is there & we are unable to cure it 100%
    This is a production system & in very critical state now.
    Please looking for a help from all of you expert guys to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Amol

    Hello;
    I don't believe you have an issue that RMAN can solve. Since you have an ORA-600 I would use Oracle support.
    There's an Oracle MOS doc on this :
    ORA-600 [6008] Generated Due To Underlying ORA-01410 [ID 743661.1]
    It's an exact match of your version and line number.

  • ERROR: Install cannot verify the oracle 10g Database

    I just completed installation of the SES 10.1.8.2 version and am now trying to apply the 10.1.8.4 Service Pack. After the OUI screen asks for my sys password, I click on Next and receive a popup error message that reads,

    I've verified that I can login as EQSYS using sqlplus. Also tested that I can login as sys, too. I've also tested the login using the Admin console and that is fine, too.
    Any ideas on what is causing this or how to fix it is most welcome as I've not encountered this error before when installing SES or a service pack. I've even tried the OUI for Service pack 10.1.8.3 but also get the same error.
    I've checked the listener.ora and tnsnames and they are OK. I've checked and the listener is running and so is the DB.
    Right now, I have the Oracle SES instance up and running at 10.1.8.2 but need to upgrade this to the same level as the other SES search nodes.

  • Connect Oracle 10g client to the Oracle 10g database behind a firewall

    I need to connect an Oracle 10g client to the Oracle 10g database (windows server 2003 box) behind a firewall. I ran into this problem: Port redirection. Port redirection requires the Oracle client to connect to the database using a different port (usually a randomly selected TCP port) than the default or originally configured one. If there is no firewall between the server and the client, port redirection will not affect the actual connection. However, if port redirection does occur with the server behind a firewall, the client will be likely to suffer from a connectivity failure. The reason is simple: the newly assigned port based on port redirection is often blocked by the firewall. Such failures are not uncommon on Windows platforms.
    I don't know how to stablished an unique TCP port.
    I Enabled USE_SHARED_SOCKET on the Oracle database server, windows registry. Acording to what I read,that will force the server machine to share its port 1521 and thus all clients will stay on that port when connecting to the database. Noticeably, port redirection will not occur with USE_SHARED_SOCKET enabled, but that's true in oracle 8 or oracle 9. In oracle 10g this solution doesn't work.
    I will apreciate any help about this. Please!
    Thanks in advanced.

    Three solutions in order of preference
    1 Use Connection Manager on the server (only installed using a Custom Install). This will tunnel all traffic through a single port. It will also allow you to configure allowable nodes
    2 Set up shared server to use a fixed port. Disadvantage: shared server has overhead and the number of connections is limited
    3 Use shared_sockets. Disadvantage: when you stop the listener everyone is disconnected.

    how do I connect to this db through my Java code?
    I tried
    _connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.245.4.100:1521:pmi as sysdba", "sys", "password");but it gave the exception "ExceptionIo exception: Connection refused(DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=169869568)(ERR=12505)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12505)(EMFI=4))))"
    I also tried

    Can anyone please help me in writing the line of code

    You need to use the getConnection syntax that requires a Properties object.

  • How to use the Oracle 10g JDBC OCI driver in JBoss ?

    Greetings,
    I deployed ojdbc14.jar in JBoss and I created an Oracle datasource. I have the following questions:
    1. In the datasource descriptor file I have:
    <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:oci:@(description=(address=(host=localhost)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(SERVICE_NAME=xe)))</connection-url>
    <driver-class>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver-class>
    Is it enough in order to use the Oracle 10g JDBC OCI driver ?
    2. After having looked-up the datasource and created a connection, the classe of these objects are org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrapperDataSource and, respectivelly, org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedConnection. How can I have access to oracle.jdbc.oci and oracle.jdbc.pool packages ?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nicolas

    Hello
    We were banging our heads on a similar thing, maybe this will help
    We needed to convert the wrapped connection to an OracleConnection so that we could do a proxy switch, but maybe you could apply it to your situation anyway
    1-you have to convert the Connection object to an OracleConnection in order to use the method that does the proxy switch
    The method to do this is getInnermostDelegate()
    Once you call this method, you get a new Connection object that can be cast to an OracleConnection object
    See below for the snippet of code
    // now switch the user and reselect
    if (conn instanceof DelegatingConnection) {
    properties.put("PROXY_USER_NAME","peter/peter");
    oraConn =((DelegatingConnection)conn).getInnermostDelegate();
    if (oraConn == null)
    out.println("oraConn is null\n");
    ((OracleConnection)oraConn).openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME,properties);
    2-you have to put a setting in the xml file in conf/Catalina/localhost that allows you to call the getInnermostDelegate() method
    By default, Tomcat does not allow you to call this method, it will always return null
    You have to change the xml to allow it to return an object
    It seems that WebSphere and Tomcat both frown on vendor-specific methods that do not comply with the JDBC standards, but do allow it
    Here is the setting:
    <parameter>
    <!-- NOTE: This is necessary to enable access to the Oracle connection object -->
    <name>accessToUnderlyingConnectionAllowed</name>
    <value>true</value>
    </parameter>
    Note, this setting was also put in the conf/server.xml file
    Thanks

  • How to use the Oracle Cloud Database Service

    Hi,
    I got the trial version of Oracle cloud Database service. How to use that?
    I wanted it to deploy the schema for my application. It needs the db to be pingable. I should be able to ping the db using the tnsping command.
    Can any body help in this regard?
    Regards
    Anil

    Anil -
    You cannot communicate with the Database Cloud Service from outside the Public Cloud with SQL*Net or over TCP/IP, as explained in the FAQ, located here https://cloud.oracle.com/mycloud/f?p=service:database_faq:0:::::.   The Database Cloud Service is a PaaS, not a DBaaS, so you won't be able to ping it in the way you describe.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to restore an Oracle XE Database without online logs and SPFILE?

    Hi there,
    My laptop was crashed last week and I was able to get only current datafiles without two online logs files and SPFILEXE.ORA from my old hard drive. I've installed with the same version of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0* software on Windows XP Pro.
    I have DATAFILEs from my old db instance XE which have my thesis data.
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSTEM.DBF',*
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\UNDO.DBF',*
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSAUX.DBF',*
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF',*
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF',*
    *'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF'*
    Even though I am not 100% percent sure about If I've set the NOARCHIVELOG mode previously but neither I have the redo log files are backed up i.e. two redo log files are in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\flash_recovery_area\XE\ONLINELOG nor have SPFILE<<SID>>.ORA. Thus, this is not really typical "+Cold backup+" when you stop the database and zip up all those 9 files (in NOARCHIVELOG mode).
    I've tried the RMAN utility but it seems it requires redo log files too.
    I wonder if I can restore somehow by copying all 6 datafiles to the same folder 'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\' or not. If so, how can I do so?
    Will appreciate any advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    Recovering an SPfile is trivial if you have the alert log, locate the last startup- there will be a section with all the non-default parameters. Copy/paste those items to create a pfile, use it for a startup mount, check the catalog views to see if recovery is needed. Without the online redo logs it will probably need an incomplete recovery.
    So in the old alertlog, [drive:]\oraclexe\app\oracle\admin\xe\bdump\alert_xe.log, grab the lines after "System parameters with non-default values:" its maybe 15 or 20 items for an "out of the box" XE install, save those to a file someplace like [drive:]\oraclexe\app\oracle\admin\xe\init\initXE.ora, fire up sqlplus and connect as sysdba, startup with the pfile ...
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    > connect /as sysdba;
    startup mount pfile='[drive:]\oraclexe\app\oracle\admin\xe\init\initXE.ora';
    If the database makes it to mount mode, check the recovery view ...
    select * from v$recover_file;
    If that view is clean, open 'er up should be good to go ... and create a new spfile:
    alter database open;
    create spfile from pfile='[drive:]\oraclexe\app\oracle\admin\xe\init\initXE.ora';
    If the instance was in archivelog mode and the archive destination wasn't specified it uses flash_recovery_area for storing archivelog files, check if there are any files in the flash_recovery_area/XE/ARCHIVELOG/[yyyy-mm-dd] (?) directories. Or when connected as sysdba a command will tell you if archivelog mode is enabled:
    archive log list;

  • How to rechoose or add the Oracle 10g AS's support language?

    hi all,
    I Installed the Oracle 10g As on a redhat as 3 with sp4. and I did not choose any other languages support while install the Oracle 10g AS. All were fine except that while I accessed the server's 1810 port with IE6, I got additive device. Some charatersets display right while some such as buttons display as a litter pane.
    so my question is how to rechoose the Oracle 10g AS's support language and set one of my preference to as default character set !
    I am not sure whether this problem just relate to the emctl's startup parameter.
    regards,
    Ari

    Finally, I reinstalled the Oracle Application Server 10g on the same Operration System. Any modification of the setting in my computer hasn't been made. in the course of installation, all the operation steps were the same with the previous time, except for adding a language support.
    And this time, to access the em manager console with IE, all runs fine without any additive device. The buttons display the right words now. And I found there are something different in the folder $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/webapps/emd/cabo/images/cache/.
    But I still have not any idea how to correct this problem on an installed system if I meet next time. Do I must reinstall anytimes? Or there just need to modify some config files?

    the whole process that how to restore the CDC enabled database backups (FULL + DIFF) on a different machine.
    Create a database named ’CDCTest’ in SQL Server 2012, then enable the CDC feature and take full+ differential backups of the database.
    -- Create database CDCTest
    CREATE DATABASE [CDCTest] ON  PRIMARY
    ( NAME = N'CDCTest ', FILENAME = N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\ CDCTest.mdf' , SIZE = 5120KB ,
    MAXSIZE = UNLIMITED, FILEGROWTH = 1024KB )
     LOG ON
    ( NAME = N'CDCTest _log', FILENAME = N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\ CDCTest _log.LDF' , SIZE = 3840KB ,
    MAXSIZE = 2048GB , FILEGROWTH = 10%)
    GO
    use CDCTest;
    go
    -- creating table
    create table Customer
    custID int constraint PK_Employee primary key Identity(1,1)
    ,custName varchar(20)
    --Enabling CDC on CDCTest database
    USE CDCTest
    GO
    EXEC sys.sp_cdc_enable_db
    --Enabling CDC on Customer table
    USE CDCTest
    GO

    Go
    --restore differential database backup
    restore database CDCTest from disk = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQL2014\MSSQL\Backup\CDCTestdif.bak' with keep_cdc
    Add the Capture and Cleanup jobs in the CDCTest database.

    Subject: How to perform FULL System Export/Imports
    Type: BULLETIN
    Status: PUBLISHED
    Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
    Creation Date: 18-APR-1994
    Last Revision Date: 30-AUG-2002
    Purpose
    This article highlights some important points to consider when performing
    a Full System Export and Import.
    Scope and Application
    It is intended to assist users performing FULL System Exports and Imports.
    A Full System Export and Import is a useful way to replicate or clean up
    a database. Please note the following guidelines when performing a Full
    System Export and Import:
    1. When performing the import, ensure you are pointing at the correct
    instance. Always check values for the SID and two task driver before
    proceeding.
    *Note:   On Unix systems, just entering a sub-shell, such as using
    C-shell, can change the database that the import would work
    against.
    2. When possible, it is advisable to take a physical copy of the
    exported database and the database you intend to import into before
    starting the import. This ensures any mistakes are reversible.
    3. NEVER run a FULL SYSTEM IMPORT on a machine that has more than one
    database UNLESS you are 100% sure all tablespaces have been
    pre-created. A full import will create any undefined tablespaces
    using the same datafile names as the exported database. There are
    situations where this is very dangerous:
    -> If the datafiles belong to ANY other database, they will be
    CORRUPTED. This is especially true if the exported database is
    on the same machine, because its datafiles will be re-used by
    the database you are importing into.
    -> If the datafiles have names that clash with existing operating
    system files.
    4. When exporting, it is advisable to also produce a report showing
    information you may need before / after the import:
    -> List the tablespaces and datafiles
    -> List the rollback segments
    -> List a count, by user, of each object type such as tables,
    indexes, etc.
    This enables you to ensure that tablespaces have been pre-created
    and to check the success of the import after it is complete.
    5. If you are creating a completely new database from an export, remember
    to create an extra rollback segment in SYSTEM, and make this available
    in the init.ora file before proceeding with the import.
    6. There are some versions of export that do not retain sequence numbers
    correctly. It is advisable to select next_value for each sequence
    after the export so that these can be checked after import.
    Following these guidelines will help you to avoid major problems.

    Subject: How To Copy an Oracle Database To Another Machine
    Type: HOWTO
    Status: PUBLISHED
    Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
    Creation Date: 12-OCT-2001
    Last Revision Date: 01-OCT-2003
    goal: How to copy an Oracle database to another machine
    fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition
    fix:
    Pre-requisites: The copy is between 2 machines, both have to be on the same OS
    and have to have exactly the same database version installed.
    1. Make sure the database you want to copy was closed with a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE,
    SHUTDOWN NORMAL or SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL.
    2. Copy init.ora and control files to create instance and be able to go in
    mount mode. Check the init.ora for the locations where the controlfiles have
    to be, if those locations are not valid on the machine put the control files on
    different places and adjust the init.ora accordingly.
    3.a. Copy the datafiles (all of them).
    b. Copy the redo-logfiles (all of them).
    4.a. (Unix only) Set the environment variables:
    ORACLE_SID - set to the database name you wish to create
    ORACLE_HOME - set to full pathname of the Oracle system home directory
    PATH - needs to include $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    b. (NT/2000 only) Do 'set ORACLE_SID=<SID>'
    Use oradim to create the service for the instance. For more information
    on oradim please refer to (the part that refers to creating a new instance):
    Note:68720.1 Creating a new 7.3, 8.0, 8.1 Instance/Database
    5. Use servermanager (check the name to use for your version of oracle) or
    sqlplus (version 9i and above) to startup the database in mount mode.
    Do
    CONNECT INTERNAL/<PASSWORD>
    then
    STARTUP MOUNT
    Then do a rename of the copied datafiles if they are not in the same path as on
    the other machine. For all the files that are in the result of the query:
    SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    do
    ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<filename>' to <
    newfullpath>\<filename>';
    6. Query the datadictionary for the old location of the redolog files using:
    SELECT MEMBER FROM V$LOGFILE;
    If the new place is not the same as the old do:
    ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<redologfilename>' to &
    lt;newfullpath>\<redologfilename>';
    7. Now open the database:
    ALTER DATBASE OPEN;
