How to run forms6i on Unix Machine

Hi all,
I have just migrated a form4.5 to form6i. We have character mode application.
Can anyone give me some idea how to run form6i on unix machine.
Is it the same way we run form4.5(f45gen xyz.fmb $Path) or bit different
Thanks
regds
Lasily Thomas

We run some Forms6i character-mode forms on Linux (using "f60run") and just started having some problems after we upgraded our database from 8i to 9i, and especially after applying the latest patch to 9.2.0.4. We get lots of ORA-03113 errors now. We also have problems with at least some calls to server-side (user-written, not built-in) stored functions (not procedures). The Forms compiler crashes on these unless we re-write those function calls to call new wrapper procedures that we wrote (that in turn call the existing functions).

  • How to run JMS in multiple machines?

    hello all,
    i am new to jms, so please let me know how to run jms in multiple machines.
    i mean, iin one machine publisher and the queue/topic are running, in other machine listener/clent. so client and the publisher must be running in an application servers. so it means only two app servers can send and receive messages?
    then what is the advantage of JMS?
    I think the sender will be sending messages and the listener can get them at later time, is my understanding is correct?
    Please let me know how it works in multiple machines? and how shold i start now?
    please give me the details....
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Charan!
    If I understand your questions right, yes, you can use JMS on several physical machines. They connect using JNDI.
    However, you cannot communicate asynchronously through JMS alone. The benefit of JMS is that you have a common interface to use when talking to a messaging provider, like WS MQ, Sonic MQ, etc. Most vendors support JMS, and those who do are called JMS providers. They are required to implement either the Queue functionality or Topic functionality (or both). When using a JMS provider, you really see the benefit of JMS. How else would you secure that your system is loosly coupled? Also, by using JMS and Message Driven Beans you get the benefits of container managed transactions, object pooling, etc.
    If you do not have a JMS provider, you still have the benefit of a loosly coupled system by using JMS to integrate your applications, but in a large system, you should consider a tool for asynchronous messaging(again WS MQ, Sonic MQ, etc).
    I would recomend you start by reading the JMS section of the J2EE tutorial provided by sun.

    Hi,
    In our project we are using this type. Since in this project server in UNIX(DEC) and client is running on windows. We have created a listener which always listen requests from client and doing the according to the request.
    Step1. create a request table, where u are inserting ur request.
    step2. create PRO*C proram, which is listening request on the table. If there is any request, call the imp (executable). This is happening on server side.
    Benifit. U can make a request from cleint and ftp the file client sit.
    Are u interested in more details and code, pls send a mail to me

    Here are some "getting started" links that may help:

    Coherence includes a default configuration out-of-the-box that will connect any machines using that same configuration (e.g. if you launch the cache client or server scripts in the /bin folder they will detect each other automatically via multicast).

    Here's another point.
    There is no particular need to "install" anything to run java. You can simply copy the jre to a directory of your choice, and from that directory invioke the JVM as you need it.

    %>

    I don't have further info to add to your first post, but think your guess seems quite reasonable. I thought of starting a new thread on the same topic, but think this (question) fits in here, too.
    I have Java code (freeware, not opensoure), intended for Unix, which basically provides the graphical interface and relies on an I/O layer (C + shell scripts) to do most of the work. I have access to the C+shell scripts which are opensource. I ported it to Cygwin and want to use it under Windows (there is no Cygwin native Java VM).
    My problem now boils down to " how to run commands under Unix and what differences are there with Windows". What are the variants?
    I have to guess what the program is doing when I get an IOException at some point. E.g.: a call to shell script may be made in a different way as to a compiled exe in Unix?. I found a way to bypass path problems because forward slashes are also accepted and /cygdrive/c construct can be replace by c:/; shell scripts can be compiled into exes using shc and they work; if symbolic links are replaced by duplication of exe files, they work. What will happen in an instance whereby a process runs a shell script dynamically, through a pipe (the shell script is compiled in the Cygwin/win version and receives parameters) in a construct like:
    pipefp = epopen(cmdbuf,"w"); /* (cmbuf is "makehdr par1 par2 ... ") (makehdr was a shell script and is now compiled exe for Cygwin/Windows) */?.
    Thanks.

  • RE: How partitions talk on the same machine

    All,
    Partitions on the same physical node will use Domain (Berkeley) sockets
    when available, to avoid the "seven layer salad". If not available,
    messages between partitions will dive through the mayonaise, bacon,
    lettuce, etc, and use the full TCP/IP stack.
    From a tech note: "When a Unix Domain socket is created, a file in theformat of
    FORTE_0000XXXX, where XXXX is the process id in hex, is placed in the
    directory %{FORTE_ROOT}/tmp. If FORTE_ROOT is not set, this file will be
    placed in /tmp instead. This is a good place to look to see if a process
    is listening on an Unix Domain socket."

    Does anyone know how partitions on the same Unix machine communicate? Do
    they use internal TCP/IP or do they actually go out on the network and
    do a loop back?
    I'm assuming that Forte uses the network to find the partition via the
    Name Service/Environment Manager (once) and once it finds the partition,
    Forte uses internal TCP/IP to talk process to process.

  • How to specify a file path in java code to run on Unix machine?

    Hi
    I have a problem when running my project Swing on Unix machine.
    In my code, the user will press a button and then the program will look for the file "ReadMe" in the folder "Documentation" , and reads the content of this file. My code is "Documentation\\ReadMe" and it works well on PC. (The folder "Documentation" is in the same directory with my Java code).
    But when I try on Unix, the program can not read the file. It can only read the file "ReadMe" if I take this file and put it in the same directory with my Java code ( this means not through another folder). So how can we make it read the file in a folder ? It seems that "Documentation\\ReadMe" does not work in Unix, or the symbol "\\" does not work.
    I would be thankful if anybody can help me with this.
    Thank you very much

    You really shouldn't use any path method, as neither are very consistant or platform independent. The JVM provides a way to grab resources from the classpath. These resources can be any data at all, in fact, it's how java itself locates classes. Here's an example how you would do this in a non-static method.
    public URL getReadMe() {
      // In this context the forward slash is universal
      String docDirectory = "Documentation/"
      // We have to use the classloader to grab the resource
      ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
      // Next we get the resource
      URL readMeURL = cl.getResource(docDirectory + "ReadMe");
      return readMeURL;
    }The URL can be used in whatever way you need to get the information out of the resource. If it was an image you might use the "Toolkit" to make an image object out of it. The great thing about this method is it will work even if your loading the program out of a Jar file. The resource paths start at the top of the classpath, just like classes.

  • How to run unix shell script from java web applet

    hi all

    i have created one shell script in same directory where my .class and .htm files reside...
    how to run this shell script from applet? it should search this .sh file on server and not on the client browser machine...

    I suppose you could make the shell script into a CGI, configure the server to execute CGIs, and then make the applet open the URL of that CGI.

    I'm running Pages version 5.2 on a Desktop Mac version 10.9.2. With the Pages app open how do I use the Time Machine to go back five hours to see my page? Can I access Time Machine within an app like Pages? How do I enter Time Machine within the application? It always takes me to the Finder. I apolgise for the mumbo jumbo. I simply do not know how to use Time Machine. It makes sense when I follow the Tutorial but then I lose it.

    OK. You've kind of skipped over the reason why you want to go back five hours, but my assumption would be that you've made changes to a Pages file that you want to revert.
    There are two ways to tackle this. From Pages itself, open the current version of your document, and from the File menu, click Revert To, and Browse All Versions. You'll then be in the Time Machine interface for that file, and can browse back to the version you want.
    Or, outside of Pages, you can select the file (or the folder it was originally in, if you've since deleted it) and enter Time Machine from the TM menu (it sounds like you've already tried this?)
