How to save string into memory

For example...I have some web address stored as string, and i want to write it into memory (just like ctrl+c when you copy some link), so then i can just go to Firefox, and simply ctrl+v to the address bar. Any ideas? Thanks.
I've add this topic to swing because i want to copy link to memory via right-mouse-click which opens some pop-up menu and there is item called "copy link", but i dont know how to implement this operation..

Loading a large number of strings into memory quickly

Hello,
I'm working on an iPhone application where I need to load a large number of strings into memory. Currently I'm simply reading from a file where each string is stored in plain text on a single line. I read the file contents into a string using stringWithContentsOfFile and then I create an NSSet object using NSSet setWithArray:[string componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]];
This works like a charm but takes around 8 seconds to load on the iPhone. I'm looking for ways to speed this up. I've already tried a few things which weren't any faster:
1) I used [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:myList toFile:appFile]; to store the NSSet data structure. Then instead of reading the text file storage. I read this file using [NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:appFile]; This was actually very slow and created a strings file that was about 2x the size of the original plain text.
2) Instead of using an NSSet, I used and NSDictionary and used writeToFile and dictionaryWithContentsOfFile. This was also no faster.
3) Finally I tried using the NSDictionary to write to a binary file format using NSPropertyListSerialization. This was also not any faster.
I've been thinking about using SQLite instead of the flat file read, but I haven't had a chance to prototype that out to see if it would be faster. It's important that I can do fast searches for specific strings, which is why I originally used a set.
Does any one else have any ideas how to load this into memory faster? If all else fails, I'm simply going to load the strings into memory using a separate thread on application launch so I don't prevent the user from getting to the main menu for 8 seconds.

I'd need to know more about what you're doing, but from what you're describing I think you should try to change your algorithm.
For example: Instead of distributing one flat file, split your list of strings into 256 files, based on the first two hex digits of their MD5 hashes*. (Two digits might not be enough--you might need three or four. You may also want to use folders, especially if you need more than two digits.) When testing if a string exists, first calculate its MD5 hash and extract the necessary number of digits, then load that file into memory and scan its list. (You can cache these lists in memory so that you only have to load each file once--just make sure that a didReceiveMemoryWarning message will empty those caches.)
Properly configured, SQLite may be faster than the eight second load time you talk about, especially if you ensure it indexes the column you store the strings in. But it's probably overkill for this application.
\* A hash is a numeric code calculated from a string; on average, changing a single bit anywhere in the string should change half the bits in the hash, so even very similar strings should generate very different hashes. I suggest using MD5 instead of -\[NSString hash\] because the hash method is not guaranteed to return the same results on Mac OS and iPhone OS, or on different releases of either OS. You could also use a different algorithm, like a CRC; these are faster but I'm not as familiar with them. No, it should be there, becos inside that FM this fm is also calling, SAVE_OTF_TO_MEMORY. but it is calling in Enhancement point. im not able to put the break point there. i think that code is not executing.
im getting this error: Breakpoint not set since enhancement ISAUTO_SCH_EMM_SAPLMEDRUCK is switched off.

How to preload sound into memory to improve performance?

I have an application where it needs to play 4 different short wave files on some events. The wave files are small (less then 1 sec each) so they can be preloaded into memory. But I don't really know how to do that.. This is my current code... Performance is really important here, so the faster users can hear the sounds, the better...

How to save graphics into file?

I've written application "Drawing Pad" - simple draw line, scribble, etc. I need to save into file graphics from the pad. How to do it, please help!!!

...what exactly are you trying to do? If you want to save the image your pad shows, it's pretty easy:
1. Create a BufferedImage with the same size as your pas
2. Call pad.paint(image.getGraphics()); to put the pad's content into the image
3. Use ImageIO.write(...) to store your image in a jpg/png file.
If, on the other hand, you are trying to store your pad object in a byte stream (which is generally not a good idea for long time persistence), you will have to use ObjectOutputStream as mentioned above and have your DrawPad class implement java.io.Serializable. Check out the tutorials on this issue, but i really doubt this is what you are trying to do.

How to save data into an excel file ?

I am working on using computer to corol HP8510 Network Analyzer System. Firstlly, I save my data into a notepad.Now I want to save them directly into an excel file. Is there anybody can give me any clue?

The attached zip file contains several VI's to read and write directly to Excel using ActiveX. There are several example VI showing how to use everything. This set is saved in LabVIEW 6.0.2.
I suggest you unzip these to your user.lib directory so you'll be able to easily access them from the functions palette.
I have not actually used these, but others that have say they have worked well for them.

How to save string in a file with special-chars

Hello,
i´m usingthe MD5-llb to create a password.
Then i want to save this MD5-string to a file and later read it back abd compare.
Works perfect with one proplem:
Some word create a "\r" in the MD5-string and when i save this string to a file and read it back then its read back as a "\n" so that the compare is not working.
My question is: How can i save a string exactly like it is to somewhere and read it back (also invisible chars)
For example the word: heinz
is in MD5: \r\FB^\07\A6\07T\C7\D9\C2\94\AB\C9\1DS\95 (string indicator as codes display)
when i save the string to a file then i rerad back: \n\FB^\07\A6\07T\C7\D9\C2\94\AB\C9\1DS\95
I used the "write text file" and "read text file"
What do i have to use to save and read the same?

I believe an MD5 hash is 16 bytes long. Use the binary read and write file I/O functions and specify the length of the data to be read or written.

How to save CSV into a file

Hi,
Im using the following javascript statement to save the web query result into CSV file.
window.open(SAP_BW_URL_Get()+
"&DATA_PROVIDER=DATAPROVIDER_1&CMD=EXPORT&FORMAT=CSV");
At present the data is saved into the default file generated by SAP BW server.
(example: SAP45B1PWBNRIC5DG8L131GG5GI2.csv)
Is there any way to save the query result into my own file?.
i..e I want to give my own file name in a the javascript or in webtemplate to store the query result.
Please help me on this.

hi! there
i've a date in string format like MM/dd/yyyy
eg:String sDate = "01/30/2002";
and i want to convert this string format into java date format
same as 01/30/2002 only
when i write like this
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat ("MM/dd/yyyy");
String sDate = "1/11/2002";
java.util.Date oDate = formatter.parse(sDate);
i'm getting the output
Fri Jan 11 00:00:00 GMT+05:30 2002
i just want the out put like 01/30/2002

Hi,
Just use back the SimpleDateFormat object you defined.
String myDateInStr = formatter.format(oDate);
this will format a java.util.Date object to a string representation according to the format you specified in the instantiation of SimpleDateFormat object.

However, the actual value I would like to get is indeed a character '%28', i.e. '(' . How can I change this String to the char I want?

remove the %
and use:char c = (char) Integer.parseInt("28", 16);

How to convert strings into character type?

I have created a function module which will display the attributes of the fields of the structure/table by using "DESCRIBE FIELD" command. The problem is that it supports only character-type data objects and the program goes into dump
if the structure contain any string type.

Please have a look at class CL_ABAP_DATADESCR. Using this instances of this class should provide all information needed...
