How to select part of a string?

Hi,
I have the following string from a cli command output:
630860 packets input, 624821204 bytes, 0 no buffer
I want to select the number of bytes which is of a variable length. Is there a way to do this with the action string commands? I couldn't get this to work for me.
Kind regards,
Ryan

Ok this works.
What do the ( ) brackets indicate? I had tried a similar string in the past but I didn't have these brackets.

  • How to replace part of a String with another String :s ?

    Got a String
    " Team_1/Team_2/Team_3/ "
And I want to be able to rename part of the string (they are seperated by '/'), for example I want to rename "Team_3" to "Team C", and "Team_1" to "Team A" while retaining the '/' character how would I do this?
I have tried using String.replace(oldValue, newValue); but this doesnt work, any ideas?

What do you mean that it doesn't work? You do know that the method returns the modified string? The actual string that you invoke the method on is not altered.

  • How to Select Part of Video Timeline?

I'm just starting to learn Adobe Premiere Elements 11.   Basic operations are pretty intuitive so far, but how would I select a part of a video clip timeline and cut this, so I could paste it elsewhere?

Thanks david for your answer !!

  • Cannot figure out how to select 'part' of footage to work on. Must be an answer.

You guys have always been helpful, that is for sure. I am just stumped and after watching more video tutorials than I can shake a stick at, I am throwing my hands up to ask question.
Say I have 90 seconds of footage in one shot. It is a DSLR shot. I want just five seconds of that footage to be warp stabilized. Just five seconds. The same five seconds used in my edit (in Premiere Pro CS5 timeline).
I have AE 5.5 installed as a trial. So I cannot open the piece of footage into AE.
So when I try and take the full original file/clip that piece of footage came from and open it into AE, I am unable to find a way to just select the footage I want to use Warp Stabilizer on.
Is this making sense? It wants to analye the entire file.
In Premiere Pro it is EASY to select footage. Piece of cake, right down to the frame.
No matter what I do, AE wants to analyze all 1 zillion frames from the entire DSLR footage. I just want to stabilize 5 seconds.
So I know I am an indiot. The answer is right there, but I cannot find it. I have worked two days trying to figure this out.
What I have been forced to do is export each little clip I want stabilized from Premiere Pro as an uncompressed file. God, what a nightmare.
Please, somebody point me to the answer. I beg of you.

This page should tell you how to do it.
Although, you should also be able to copy and paste the clip from Premiere into AE and it'll already be trimmed to how you want it.
Since you're just starting out with AE, I would highly recommend you go here and check out some of those resources to start you off on the basics.

  • How to select parts of a clip in a project in iMovie 10.0.1

In the previous version of iMovie partial clip selection was possible just by dragging a left click over a clip within the movie clip project. Now in iMovie 10.0.1 the same left click dragging over the clip it's just for moving the entire clip to another position.
The only place where I was able to select a portion of any given clip is in the Event window, on the imported clips section.
Is it possible to select portions of a clip that it's already embeded into a movie clip project?
Thanks to all for your answers.

Further to Karsten's advice, position the skimmer (or the playhead) within the clip where you want to start your selection. Now click and hold down the mouse button (or trackpad). As you do this you will firstly see that the whole clip is highlighted with a thin yellow border. While still holding down on the click, you will then see a wider yellow vertical line on the clip, being the start point - drag this to mark your selection. Release the mouse button (or trackpad) once you've reached the end point of your selection.
If you wish to delete the segment that you've highlighted, just press the Delete key on the keyboard. Otherwise perform whatever other actions are available from the Modify menu item.
The key is to not release the mouse button after clicking on the clip. The selection border will appear within a millisecond after clicking and holding.

  • Fcpx - after selecting part of a clip, marking in and out, pressing the e key does not add it to the timeline.  what do I do?

At the Mac store they showed me how to select part of the clip, Mark in an out, and then use the key board shortcut, the E, to move back down to the end of the timeline. At home it refuses to do that. I can't even drag it down. I am using Snow Leopard, not lion. Can anybody tell me why I can't get the material down to the timeline except as an entire clip?

I was stuck in this exact same position yesterday, and wow was it ever frustrating. I can't remember the exact steps I stumbled upon to figure it out, but basically you need to create a "project" (not a "sequence" like you'd think - there is no "new sequence" command in FCP X) and that "project" will in fact be the sequence you are able to add your selections to.
The same real estate the sequence lives in is also where the "project library" lives, which will overtake your sequence if invoked - look to make sure the film reel icon at the bottom left of the screen is not active (blue). If it is active, click it to make the project libary go away.
I'm still struggling with FCP X as a long time professional FCP 7 user, and from what I've read this isn't uncommon. Best of luck getting past these fisrt few awkward hurdles and onto the actual editing (which, I have to say, so far I am having a hard time being precise or creative with).

  • How can I slow down the playback speed of selected parts of a captivate video?

    Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to Captivate and although it offers some great tools, there is something that I just can't get to work:
I'm creating a video tutorial about how to use a website i'm working with so I've tried using "Automatic" ("Demo" mode chosen) recording option which is recommended for this type of video. However, the video recorded has a different playback speed than the amount of time I recorded. This means that some of the slides have a quicker playback speed than the way I recorded, thereby not leaving enough time to show the given feature.
The recording mode with the most "true" playback was "Full motion". However, I would still like to be able to slow down selected parts of the video, but can only find guides on how to slow down the entire presentation.
Can you please advise me on how to slow down only selected parts of the project? If this is not possible in Captivate, please advise me on which video editing software (where you can slow down the playback speed on selected parts of the video) is compatible with Captivate 5?
    Thanks!

Thank you. Andrew Kramer's Video Copilot video, which I somehow managed to miss, was very helpful.
I had a 79 second clip which I precomposed and enabled time remapping. But I have 12 places where I need to slow down the layer. After a while, I was runing out of room to add more keyframes using the method promoted in many videos and instruction sites (grab the last two keyframes, including the end frame, and drag).
In reality, you can add keyframes wherever you like and you can adjust them however works best within the existing timeline without messing with the duration, etc.
    Much appreciated.

  • How Do I Mirror A Part Of A String?

    Dear Programmers,
Does Anyone know how to mirror a string in C#:
    For example:  looks -> skool
    Thank you in advance,

    There is a Reverse method:
    string s = "looks";
    s = new string(s.Reverse().ToArray());
Best way to reverse a string:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/228038/best-way-to-reverse-a-string
And you can get a part of a string using the Substring method:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.string.substring(v=vs.110).aspx

  • How can I burn just a selected part of the project to DVD?

    Afternoon all,
we downloaded a number of clips from our HDV that we wanted to use in making a short movie (1 hour's worth of clips will end up being a movie of about half that length). After doing that, we decided to do a 'preview' of 2 minutes worth of mixed clips (5 in total) with music.....I made a new copy of the whole project and then deleted everything that we didn't want from the original collection of 1 hours worth of downloaded clips so that the project just left 2 minutes worth of clips.
When we tried to burn this 2 minutes to DVD it seemed to be trying to do the whole project including a whole lot of nothing where I've deleted everything.
Could you please tell me how to select only the 2 minutes worth of 5 clips and audio so that I can burn only that bit to DVD and also upload it to YouTube.
A million thanks from a challenged newbie who can't find any instructions for doing this..
    JON

    Jon,
It sounds like you did, just as you should, Save_As and Delete everything that is unwanted. If you did the Deletion from the Timeline, there should be nothing from the old Project, that should be included. A DVD is Transcoded and burned from the Timeline. If the Assets are not there, they will not included in the DVD, even if you did not Delete anything from the Project Panel.
Tell us about the Clips now on your Timeline. Also, can you check the Timeline, by hitting the \ (Backslash key), and looking near the end of the Timeline. Do you have any "orphans" out there? Check all Video Tracks, even if you have to scroll to see them all. Does the Duration of the Timeline (viewed in the Program Monitor) match what you think that it should? If not, then you most likely have orphans, that you missed Deleteing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
