In Numbers, nothing having to do with a table can be rotated. (In Pages an entire Table can be rotated, but not text within a Table.)
There have been many suggestions posted here over the life of iWork for vertical labels. Most fall into three categories:
1. Type one letter, Option-Return, type another letter, Option-Return, and so forth.
2. Type label in a Text Box, rotate the box, position the box over the table, covering the cell where you need a label.
3. Create a PDF graphic with rotated text and insert it into table cell as Background Fill.
The third option is clearly the best. The steps for option three are:
Insert Text Box
Type label into the box
Rotate the text box
Select the text box (not the text inside the box)
Command-C
Switch to Preview.app
Command-N
Command-C
Switch to Numbers
Click on Cell where the label goes
Command-V
It sounds worse than it is. You can reuse the Text Box so you don't end up with a sheet full of them.

How to set the border of header of JTable

I am using the following code to set the border of my JTable headers but it doesn't seem to work!! The headers do get CENTER aligned but somehow they do not show the right border. Please Help.

How to consume the sharepoint online Library data to Excel sheet using ODATA connection. That ODATA connection file resides in "SharePoint Online -Data Connections Library"

I have created a OData Connection to my Library and published to SharePoint online site.
To refresh the data, property is set like "Refresh when opening file"
When I downloaded and open the file, the new data is consumed to me successfully because this ODF file referenced to my local computer
If any other user downloads the file its not opening as reference file points to my local machine.
I want to keep this ODF file in "Data connections" Library (or in any site/Library) and establish the connection to the excel sheet. so that any one can use the ODF file.
or else any other alternative to use ODF file globally and get the SP Library data to excel ?

it will use the connection in the ADF library. I recommend though that you not save database connect information in the ADF library. Instead:
- define the ADF BC model to use JDBC data sources
- In the ADF library, configure it to only contain the data source name
- In the view project (the workspace) configure the database connection exposed by the library
When the library is imported, check Application Resources --> Connections and right click on the imported connection name to configure it

How to set the cell size in grid layout where each cell is a panel

Hi,
I am using a grid layout where each cell is a panel. Here I want to
set size of each panel to be equal irrespective of any. But it is not obliging the setSize().
no of row in grid - 4
no of columns - 4
each cell is a panel. each panel has a label.
panel.setSize(parent.getWidth(), parent.getWidth()/4); // not working. Size is adjusting to the length of the label.
I want to force the size of the panel to our preferred size.
Note: In swing we can use JPanel.setPreferredSize(). Unfortunately I cannot use Swing components. Requirement is awt only.
Any help in this is highly appreciated.

I observed it is same behavior with gridbag layout. Infact it is gridbag layout only with 4 cells, where first cell should be of constant width (it is base for other cell widths) and other cells are variable (some integer*base width of first cell). I want to set the size of first cell width to be constant.
Though it is redundant I once again say that it works perfect with setPreferredSize of JComponent.
But I should not use any swing component/api. This is sytem requirement.
Any help is appreciated.

Disabling the border on JTable cell renderer

Hello all
I've developed a JTable that doesn't allow cell editing and only allows single-row selection. It works fine, I've allowed the user to press <tab> to select the next row or click the mouse to select any row. The row selected is high-lighted and I'm happy with how it works.
However:
Due to the single-row selection policy, it doesn't make sense to display a border around any cell that has been clicked. I would therefore like to prevent the JTable from displaying a border on any cell the user has clicked.
I've checked out the API documentation for JTable and the closest I've been able to get is to construct a DefaultTableCellRenderer and then use JTable.setDefaultRenderer. The problem is I don't know how to set the DefaultTableCellRenderer to NOT display a border when selected.
I can see a method called getTableCellRendererComponent which takes parameters that seemingly return a rendering component, but should I specify isSelected = true and isFocus = true? And what should I do once I have the Component? I've tried casting it to a JLabel and setBorder(null) on it, but the behaviour of the table remains the same.
I've tried all sorts of things but to no avail. I'm finding it all a bit confusing...
Why oh why isn't there simply a setTableCellRendererComponent()? ;)

JTable can potentially use multiple renderers based on the type of data in each column, so you would need to create multiple custom renderers using the above approach. The following should work without creating custom renderers:
table = new JTable( ... )
     public Component prepareRenderer(TableCellRenderer renderer, int row, int column)
          Component c = super.prepareRenderer(renderer, row, column);
          ((JComponent)c).setBorder(null);
          return c;
};

How to set the view privilege of a portlet?

Dear all,
I would like to ask how to set the view privilege of a portlet (which is located on the Intranet homepage) to only a group of users?
As far as I know, I can create a tab with view privilege to address the about scenario. But is it possible to directly set the view privilege to the portlet ?

OK, you got me there George. I don't know where you can set view rights to an out of box portlet. So how about a different approach?
1) Create a blank page with no nav bar or anything else
2) Assign the group you want to see the notifications portlet view rights on the page
3) Make sure the show as portlet check box is checked on the Optional tab in the page properties
4) Add the notifications portlet to the page
5) Ensure the portlet settings are how you desire in terms of what notifications to show and the region settings are how they should be in terms of border, headers, etc
6) Edit the page where you want the notifications portlet to be shown and add the page portlet you just created instead of the notification portlet
This should achieve what you seek without having to dig into out-of-box portlets.

Hi,
The demo link provided by Chandra uses Blue Crystal theme, hence it shows the vertical lines between the columns of the table. If you are using Gold Reflection theme, then to get the vertical lines, you need to play with CSS. Add the below snippet of CSS between <head></head> of your html file.

How to remove the border of a JSplitPane?

I'm using NetBeans 6.1 under Mac OS X 10.5.5, JDK6. When I design my GUI, I want to have the splitpanes witouht border. On Mac and Linux it works fine, however, on Windows and the Metal-Look'n'Feel the borders are painted, although I set the border-property in the GUI-designer to "null".
My question is, can I additionaly manually remove the border? I found [this sample|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=566152], but I didn't really help me since I don't know how to handle UIResources...

I guess you could try overriding paintBorder to do nothing.

I need to call a Bapi_objcl_change, with import parameter and a table as an input. I have done this, in BLS. I have set the table input in the
form of xml. In BLS, I get the output(the value gets change in SAP R3, what i have given in BLS). But if i set the same xml structure in
query template, I didn't get the output. Table input parameter does not take that xml source. How to set the table input in Query template?

You probably need to XML encode the data so that it will pass properly and then xmldecode() it to set the BAPI input value.

The radio button Service should not be visible.
Also for search help (e.g. search for internal products) where a search should only be possible for product type 01 (goods). The system should not display the product type and internally always search for goods only.

We needs to use Search help BBPH_PRODUCT which having parameter PRODUCT_TYPE
Here we can set defalut value 01 but it is not correct one since same search help is using several places.
We need to limit the search help results only for SC.

The easiest way to set defautl values is to edit the batch class.
Goto the characteiristic and go to update values.
In here you probably have something like 0 - 100 as a spec range.
On the next line enter the default value within this range. At the end of the line, click in the box in the column labelled "D". This indicates the defautl value for the characteristic.
If you need to you can do this in the material classification view as well.
Just to be clear, these values will only show up in the batch record. You can not have defautl values in resutls recording screens.

Does anybody know how to set the DEFAULT background color in an application.. I need it because in jdk 1.3 the default bgcolor is grey and in 1.5 it is white.. and I wish white as well.. so to make it also white in jdk 1.3 I need to use the (a bit annoying) anyContainer.setBackground( Color.white ); and these are lots in my app.. So my question is: is there such an overall class with a function (say UIManager.setComponentsBackground( Color color ) ) for such a purpose?
any tip or link would be greatly appreciated
