How to standardize deployment of BC4J

Question

I wonder what the best way is to make a BC4J app deployable and updateable for production.
If we install a standard application on some or many hosts we need a simple way of
1. create the db schema first and
2. to adjust the db schema on later releases of the app.
It's clear to me how to do that in JDeveloper ("synchronize with database"). But is it possible to do that without JDeveloper in production environments ?

ok, you're right. For real runtime installations this should work.
Additionally I would like to be able to verify that the database is in that state we expect. It's for doing a "quality check" after the installation. Do you see a way for this ? We would very appreciate to avoid runtime errors.
Perhaps it would be possible to have the "Database synchronization" as a standalone component in a future release (executable jar-File)? I think of it as an ideal solution for my problem.
