How to Stop Firefox 18 From Restoring the Previous Session After a Crash
Firefox 18.0.1 running on Windows 7
When Firefox crashes, the next time it opens it tries to restore the previous session. I do not want Firefox to restore the previous session after a crash. How do I prevent Firefox from restoring the previous session after a crash?
Please note:
1- My home page is set to "blank page"
2- I have configured Firefox to NOT remember my browsing history, download history, form fields and passwords.
3- Even in Safe Mode (i.e., with all add-ons disabled), Firefox STILL restores the previous session after a crash.
hello Bulldogger, please try the following in order to switch off sessionrestore completely: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preferences named '''browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo''' and '''browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo'''. double-click on those entries and change both of their values to '''0'''.

How do I stop Firefox from opening old tabs/windows after a crash?
whenever it crashes and i try to reopen the program, it opens all my old tabs and windows. often these are videos which all start playing at once. or worse, it opens the page that made it crash in the first place and crashes again.
how do i stop this annoying feature?
if there's no way to stop it, can you recommend a simple browser that doesn't try to think for you?hello, enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

How to stop Firefox from checking for add-on compatibility every time it opens?
How to stop Firefox from checking for add-on compatibility every time it opens?
That can be a problem with the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder.
Try to rename (or delete) the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder to see if that helps.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can also check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?
You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone. -
Accidentally shut down the pc and firefox did not come back with option restore previous session at the first screen even in History-Restory previous session is Grey. My settings are clean history after firefox is closed.
Is there any change to get back on my Tabs from previous session even the history browsing was cleaned? I would appreciate your help!In general FireFox will behave in 1 of 3 ways when restarted after a shutdown.
1. Kill Shutdown
This happens when the FireFox process is terminated with a TerminateProcess() call or if the FireFox process crashes. It is a dirty exit, no clean-up is done. When restarted after this FireFox will show a "Well this is embarrassing" dialog with options to restore selected parts of the previous session.
2. Force Shutdown
This happens when another process asks FireFox to shutdown cleanly (such as a PC restart) by a call to ExitProcessEx() and does not ask the user for confirmation. Normally, when this type of shutdown occurs, Firefox will just restore all tabs and sessions without asking. However if Firefox is set to automatically delete history on shutdown, it can't. I suspect this is your situation. I would suggest to the FF team that deleting history should be skipped in this case, only a user shutdown should delete history.
3. User shutdown.
This is when the user tells Firefox to close down (by selecting Exit or closing all tabs etc..). Confirmation is asked to close all tabs (if enabled and more than 1 tab is open). On restart, nothing is restored.
Unfortunately, if you have auto clear history enabled, there's no way to recover the previous session. Sorry. -
How to stop Firefox from launching everytime I turn on my MacBook?
Hi Everyone,
Everytime I turn on my MacBook, Firefox launches. It really bugs me, and I tried to stop it, but couldn't find how, either in system preferences or in the firefox menus.
Can someone please help and tell me how to stop it from happening?
Thanks already,
QuentinThis usually happens because you've added the application to the Login Items list in the Accounts preferences. Open Accounts preference, click on the Login Items tab, locate the Firefox entry, select it then click on the "-" button to delete it.

Can't restore a previous session, after 2nd session has been closed. Please help!
I have had a tons of tabs open in two windows with very important information. Husband was using computer this morning and I am not able to restore them. He closed one window, so now "Restore Previous Session" is unavailable and "Open Last Closed Window", opens the lullaby for kids from the previous session (just one tab). Is there a way to get my original session? Please someone say yes..
Hi,
If you accidentally closed the tabs there is one way to recover the website or pages you visit. Just hold CTRL+H on your keyboard and look for its date and find the website you visited.
CTRL+H is a keyboard hot key to access the history pane.
I hope this helps.
Thank you! -

How do I stop firefox from remenbering my last session every time I open up the browser?
Something happen to my computer yesterday because lots of my program shut down but I was able to open up again and now I discovered today that every time I open firefox it remember my last session even though I didn't ask it to - my homepage is set to my homepage under options and I do remember history and I know if I turn that off it won't do this but it shouldn't be doing this in the first place.
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

Firefox wont restore my previous session, for the first time, and I need it back!
I use "restore previous session" religiously. Whenever i shut down, whether due to a problem or just normally, "restore previous session" is there and restores all my tabs. Sometimes after a crash, I get the "well, this is embarrassing" but when I click OK on that dialog to try anyway, it always restores.
There have been a few times in the past when, for no apparent reason, "restore previous session" was greyed out when I restarted. My thankful workaround for this has been to open the library folder on my Mac, locate the Firefox folder in Application Support folder, select the "qqfh38jn.default" folder, go into Time Machine and replace that folder. Or sometimes I go INTO that folder and select "sessionstore.js" and This has always worked, and I breathe a sigh of relief when I restart Firefox and "restore previous session" is available and I can get all my tabs back (even if a few hours' worth of "opens and closes" are missing).
Tonight I had to restart my computer because of a memory problem (got a system error that the OS was out of memory, which strangely happens once in a while). But I was able Firefox quit normally (i didnt have to force quit) and I restarted he computer. Safari started up normally and restored all of my tabs there, even though ironically Safari had hung and had to be force quit.
I am researching a writing project and had six or seven Firefox windows open with 10-25 tabs each (yes, I do this all the time, for years now, and it isnt usually a problem, so no judgment please). I NEED THOSE TABS BACK DESPERATELY. Reconstructing them from history would be excruciating if it could even be done. (In the past, not everything seems to be in history in the order I want it; what I'd want is all of the tabs in the order they opened last time.)
I've lost a lot of time on this already. I would be losing many many hours of work if I cant get those tabs back. if anyone can help re what happened, what is going on, and most of all how I can use Time Machine or a backup (or ANYTHING) to hopefully find the hidden file that saved/recorded my last session, I would be deeply appreciative. Going back a few hours or even days in Time Machine would help.
Thanks so much!
Samantha.Yes, that's the problem (sorry, I wasnt clear)—when I go to Time Machine, there IS no sessionrestore.js file in any of the previous folders any more (???) and if I try to just replace the whole "qqfh38jn.default" folder, it is greyed out and wont let me. (It has let me do this before.) I tried replacing the sessionstore backups folder—it lets me do that—fro several of the last few backups, but when I reopen Firefox there is still no previous session to restore. :(
Why would there be no sessionrestore.js file in my recent backups? It was always there before. -
I am unable to restore my previous session after an update to the latest Firefox version.
I was alerted of my available update so I let the update run, came back to the Firefox home page and saw the "Restore previous session" button. I clicked on it and it started to download my update all over again. I tried this again as I thought maybe I had hit a wrong button but it continued to keep re-loading Firefox. I went under history to attempt to restore previous session from there but the option is not available. I had a lot of tabs saved, is there anyway I can restore and get them back?
Restore Previous Session should be an option available under the History options:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20does%20not%20ask%20to%20save%20tabs%20and%20windows%20on%20exit?s=restore+switch&r=0&e=es&as=s
If that only restores your last (update) session, you might be out of luck.
Since I'm constantly browsing a PLETHORA of tabs, and don't like to re-bookmark all of them, AND still have them persist a FF restart, I use Session Manager:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/
It also has a "backup" feature, which backs up your current session every "x" minutes.
Hope this helps/prevents future losses.

How to keep firefox from getting the cannot find server error
I just recently fixed my computer from a nasty spyware problem that required me to manipulate some registry values. After solving the problem, firefox seems to work but only for a very limited time before I'm unable to load any pages. I then close firefox and reopen to find out that it can no longer find the server and have to constantly restart my computer in order to have access to the internet again. However the access to firefox still only lasts for a limited time before I have to restart again. I'm sure this isn't a connection issue because everyone else in the house has no problems.
Nope.
If you launch Mail, you get mail.
You can only stop if from loading if your DON'T launch Mail.
You can also decide how much to have it load, and how far back.
The other option is to turn off Wifi before you launch Mail.

When you open a new tab and begin to type a url to visit, if your mouse is hovering over any of the suggested results when you press enter, instead of firefox going to the url you have typed, it goes to the url that the mouse was hovering over.
Is there a way to disable this functionality as it is annoying when you are say, trying to access youtube or google, but then you goto a completely different page from your history because your mouse was hovering over a suggested result.@philipp:
I restarted in safe mode with all add-ons disabled and the problem still persists. Apparently a friend also seems to have this problem.
How to reproduce (to the best of my knowledge)
1) click on url bar
2) start typing part of a url which generates many results from history
3) mouse over one of the results (usually the first as thats where the mouse is after clicking on the url bar)
4) press enter with autofilled url in url bar
What happens is say that i start typing "goo" for google.com, firefox will auto complete with http://google.com, but since my mouse is hovering over a historic google search result it opens what ever my mouse is hovering over even though the url bar says "http://google.com" -

If you don't have iTunes you will need to buy the song from the iTunes store and download it that way. If it is a custom track you may be out of luck. The only way to get a song on your device without iTunes involves jailbreaking it.
iOS is set up to prevent people from emailing each other songs, videos, movies, books, etc. This is how Apple got their contracts with the content providers by promising that they would do what ever it takes to prevent people from sharing content that they didn't pay for.
