How to upgrade Apex 2.2 to Apex 3.1

I am seeing a problem with the upgrade from 2.2 to 3.1. After the upgrade (with apexins.sql) I still see the following synonyms in PUBLIC:

I have been using oracle db10g xe to learn oracle as i am new to it which according to oracle contains APEX 2.1. according to oracle that syas:
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition (Oracle Database XE) includes Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) release 2.1. With the release of Oracle Application Express 3.2, you can now upgrade the Application Express within your Oracle Database XE.

As a part of upgrade from APEX 2.1 to 3.2 one of the requirement is:
Choosing an HTTP Server
In order to run, Oracle Application Express **must** have access to either the embedded PL/SQL gateway or Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql.

As it mentioned in the url above the embedded PL/SQL gateway only available with Oracle Database 11g or higher but I have db 10g xe and as it mentioned in oracle web site. (first url) the db 10g xe can be upgraded to APEX 3.2.
That leave me with Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql as a MUST have component but nowhere in the documentation mentions where and how to get it and install it in oracle db 10g xe which i've been using.
Please help me to resolve this issue because without it i can't upgrade from APEX 2.1 (within db 10g xe) to APEX 3.2.
it's been two days that i have been reading all the docs but it doesn't says where to get Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql with installation guide.
Please let me know how can i upgrade to new APEX 3.2 as i don't want to lose db 10g xe and start all over with 11g.
Please put URL or your finding about upgrading from APEX 2.1 to APEX 3.2 here.

the installation instruction at the link i posted before is missing two major steps where you must first create two tablespace as:
tablespace_apex
tablespace_files
The instruction i put its url previously perhaps is very high level but the best step-by-step instruction i did and worked charmingly right after installation can be found at:

as soon as i copy past the code to Source box of the Department it gives me error pasted in my thread.
even if i copy past the code in SQL Workshop it doesn't work. it says: table can't be parsed.
even tonight i proceeded further and was doing the second exercise in same url for:
Editing the Employees Report.
I copy past the given code to Source box but this time the report doesn't show new result. seems like a change doesn't take effect even i logout and in back.
even in SQL Workshop it works but in running the page 3. employees it doesn't show changes at all.

How to Upgrade apex 4.1.1 to 4.2 step by step ..

*1)-- download last version on : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/downloads/index.html*
*2)-- unzip file to same directory where old apex directory on my computer was C:\ will ask you if you replace click yes to all .*
*3)-- go to run > cmd > cd c:\ {change directory to drive where apex folder . then > cd apex will be like this C:\apex*
*4)-- C:\apex splplus and press enter , must insert this >>*
*5)-- username: sys as sysdba   and press enter must insert passward for Xe example : orcl this when istall application express edition 11g >*
*6) SQL>@apexins.sql sysaux sysaux temp /i/ and press enter .*
*7) Now wait for one hour and 7 mints to finsh.*
*8)-- Now exit from black monitor (DOS) and open run > cmd > and change directory to C:\apex*
*9)-- repeat steps number 4 , 5.*

How to provide the user in an APEX application with low-vision apex option

Hi I've a small problem I'm trying to solve but can't seem to find anything on this.
The issue is this I've developed an application and the user can log on and use it successfully. For those users that are visually impared I need a link on my main application to a High Contrast version of the same application.
Is this even possible.
I don't want to have to create a new application using a high contrast theme, as I would need to maintain 2 applications in the end.
Is there a way of changing the colors at run time to a higher contrast version.

I just wanted to add to this discussion with some functionality introduced in APEX 4.1 that may help here. In APEX 4.1, we introduced a new 'High Contrast Mode' which basically identifies sessions as optimized for high contrast in the APEX development environment and websheet runtime. This allowed us to get around some issues we were having when a user was running in 'Windows High Contrast Mode' (where CSS background images are ignored) and also some issues with insufficent contrast. To read more about this mode, please see the 'About Constrast Mode' section in the 'Accessibility in Oracle Application Express' appendix here:

Now, although this mode is available for use within your own database applications, it really only provides the framework for you to provision the mode and importantly, will not make any changes to your application (that's still up to you). But I think the framework is still useful and provides some nice API's to help you turn the mode on or off and also determine the status of the mode.
I have setup a simple example to show you how this works:

It's rudimentary, just showing 1 region if High Contrast Mode is on, and another if it's off. This page has the following:
1) Select list to select whether the mode is on or off.
2) Page process to set the mode, depending on the select list value. This performs the following PL/SQL (showing the APIs you can use to switch the mode on or off):
if :P1_HIGH_CONTRAST = 'Y' then
apex_util.set_session_high_contrast_on;
elsif :P1_HIGH_CONTRAST = 'N' then
apex_util.set_session_high_contrast_off;
end if;3) The region's have 'PL/SQL Expression' conditions that call another API that you can use to check if the current session is running in HC Mode. For example:
apex_util.is_high_contrast_sessionOnce the mode is enabled, it will remain enabled for the length of the current session (or until it is switched off). To understand more about how you can use HC Mode, please see here:

So as I said, the example I gave as kinda simple. But you could easily extend this to say include an additional CSS file when running in HC Mode (containing the CSS styles and properties that would give you the increased contrast). You could do this by adding a page zero page process to run before header, that calls the apex_util.is_high_contrast_session API to determine if the current session is in HC mode, then include the CSS file if so. How to Import 3.0 application in APEX 3.2? These two are on two different machines. It is not upgrade.

APEX supports backward compatibility. It means that 3.2 version can run any application that was developed in earlier versions.
In your case, just export the full application from 3.0 and import it in the 3.2

How to run a update from APEX 2.1 to APEX 2.2???

I am using version 2.1, and I want to update to 2.2, I downloaded the file from OTN, but after unziping, I found it is not a simple exe file but a bunch of sql and other files, how to run the upgrading, I think it is too diffficult in that way.
How many files I need to run in the SQL plus?
Which one is the one I need?

If I want to upgrade to 2.2, I need DBs other than XE?Today you have the option of installing Application Express 2.2 in Oracle Database 9iR2 or the SE, SE1, or EE editions of Oracle 10g Database.

Applications not working after upgrade from apex 3.2 to apex 4

hi,
we've created an application with apex 3.2 which works fine.
today we upgraded apex 3.2 to apex 4. after the upgrade the application doesn't work anymore.
we recognized the following things:
- interactive reports don't work anymore
- tabs don't work anymore
- buttons don't work anymore
what do we have to do, to get our apex 3.2 application to work with apex 4?

I've seen similar problems to my applications. I've found a problem with the derived columns or link columns in reports. The only solution I founded is to delete the columns and then make them again. Now are working. No problem founded specifically for the interactive reports. If there is an automated solution for the derived columns or link columns it will be appreciated ;-).

How can i remove JUNK TEXT from APEX

In our project Apex has integrated with oracle apps,every time we will open apex front end from oracle application(EBS).so we have two kinds of instances 1) development and other is production
every time we export the apex application from developement instance and import in production instance . after imported into production * we got JUNK TEXT like "TEXT:TEXT" in apex front end* so how can i remove JUNK TEXT from APEX

Hi,
It is not clear what you are seeing here. Also we don't know how you have integrated Apex with EBS. My guess is you have linked an Apex page to the EBS menu and when you click on the menu link you see the additional text on the Apex page.
You need to give details of how you have integrated Apex with EBS and where and when this additional text is being displayed for me to give you any help on this issue.

Upgraded from APEX 3.1 to APEX 4.0.2, Interactive reports broken

I just recently upgraded from APEX 3.1 to APEX 4.0.2.
Am using IE 8.
Now whenever I click on a column header in an interactive reports I get a javascript error:
Message: Expected ')'
Line: 1
Char: 40984
Code: 0
URI: http://patchx:8080/i/javascript/apex_4_0.js
Am at my wits end on this one.
I can't see anybody else who has hit this error.
The demo application works okay.
I set up an interactive report with the same properties as the demo app, but i still get the error.
Any clues?

AHA, I just figured out what is making this happen.
I have a custom authorization scheme which calls a PLSQL function.
I had set the authorization scheme to "Once Per Page View".
This was causing the error to happen, although I still don't know why.
Unfortunately it is a problem because I need to authorize on each page.
This is because my plsql function must allow the login page authorization so we can capture the username to check against permissions. So I autmatically return true on the login page. But that means anybody can get in, because that is the once per session authorization as specified.

How to parameterize the schema name in APEX

How to parameterize the schema name in APEX , in order to access different tables from the respective schema.
For example:-
select NAME display_value, CODE return_value
from paramSchema.DESC_LIST WHERE SELECTION_FLG = 'Y'
order by 1
in the above code, paramSchema will be replaced with the actual schema name duing runtime. I tried doing so by some hidden fields on page, but it didn't worked out.
I took the schema name from the respective server as per the IPof the server.
stored in a hidden field named as schema.
And replaced the same in place of schema name. But no luck.
select NAME display_value, CODE return_value
from :schema.DESC_LIST WHERE SELECTION_FLG = 'Y'
order by 1
Please help me in shorting it out.

In order to do that, you would need to use dynamic SQL by changing the report type to PL/SQL Function Body Returning SQL Query and have code along the lines of

To use a WITH clause at the tope of the query like...

I have a requirement in to process the fileds data.I have a item by name as "Platts Lead1 to Platts Lead10" of type list items.
By assuming end user can select entire fileds or we can first five items i.e "Platts Lead1 to Platts Lead5" and then insert into data base.
How we can hanle this scenerios in Apex process..

As for dealing with variable items - Apex has a number of global arrays/collections that can be used. The Apex Item API enables you to create a dynamic list of items (as check boxes, text boxes, list boxes, hidden text fields, etc). Where user supplied data for variable item lists are available via global/static PL/SQL arrays.
