How to Use Dimension Operator

Hi
I'm trying to implement SCD Type 2. I have done so using conventional methods.
I have read in some blogs that dimension operator can be used for SCD. Can any one provide me material on how to use Dimension Operator. I tried OWB User guide. But its not useful.
I have seen that we need to create levels. But i dont need levels.
Can somebody please tell me how to use it.

Hi Vibhuti,
using dimensions with OWB 10g R2 isn't that difficult. You just create a number of attributes like an ID, a business key and probably a description and then associate each of the attributes with a level. You need at least one level that all the attributes are associated to. Then you can use the slowly changing dimension wizard (SCD) to track changes. In the SCD settings you can determin for which attribute you want to trigger history and which attributes contain your effective date and your end date (if you want to use SCD type II). Obviously you would need two additional attributes in every level for that purpose.

    The dimension data object in the design tree is all about the semantics of the object - the description of hierarchies, levels, attributes PLUS how it is bound to some persistence.
    The dimension operator object in a mapping is all about how the semantic object is loaded with data. Source to Dimension operator (under the covers OWB knows the semantics of the dimension and how it is bound to some persistence so can generate the expanded mapping).
    There is an OBE below that is still pertinent to 11gR2 to understand some of this;

    You should only map business key columns (to identify a level), attributes for each level, and hierarchy relationship columns. The surrogate key columns are populated under the hood by OWB.

    I want to know how data is mapped with dimension operator as source and target(in different cases) and also how the cube operator is attached to the dimension operator..

    The dimension and cube operator encapsulate a lot of standard ETL for loading dimension and cubes (semantics on top of implementing tables). For example the operators handle hierarchy loading, surrogate key management, slowly changing dimensions, late arriving facts and all sorts. In many tools this kind of behavior has to be manually developed by users.
    You can expand the dimension operator and see under the hood to look at the code that is produced.

    Is this similar to the sql generated at your end? Do you use special loading hints, anything specail with indexing - we have tried standard indexing.

    using the ranges with CP option we can do that..
    Populate the ranges mentioned below..
    data: r_matnr type range of matnr,
            w_matnr like line of r_matnr.
    w_matnr-low = '%XXX'.
    w_matnr-sign = 'I'.
    w_matnr-option = 'CP'.
    append w_matnr to r_matnr.
    loop at lt_mara into l_mara where matnr in r_matnr.

    Hi All,
    In my query i need to add a field Count which shows number.
    Meaning,
    Column A   ColumnB ColumnC  Count
    100               50            0            2
    55                60             76         3
    79                0               0           1
    meaning from all three column only two has values then Count should show 2. etc....
    any suggestion how to use boolean expression here ?

    boolean didnt work here. the formulau sugested worked...
    But i wrote formula for the Count --> COUNT("overtime") and for the Count property I selected Calculate Result As --> Summation fo Rounded Values
    so the output is as follows:
    i had data for 3 payperiods
    Count  (1st 3 columns)                    overall result(last Column)
    200801     200802     200803           
    1                 0             1                         2
    1                1              1                         3
    0                1             0                         1
    Now the out put i wanted is in the last column -Result column.
    I dont want Count column to be display like this. it is showing values instead of total. any this i should change for this?

    In bottom right side Map the Fileds of Dta service to Sigma parameters(Count,Max,Min..)

    In dimension ACCOUNT I have created additional property ZACC where I store "alternative" account numbers.
    After I load actuals from BW to "regular" accounts I want to copy values to "alternative" accounts.
    Regular accounts are hierarchy nodes and alternative are base members.
    ACCOUNT dim values looks like that:
    ID     ZACC
    A1     A.1
    A2     A.2
    A.1
    A.2
    etc.
    I wrote code below for that but when I validate I get message:

    I will try to explain in details. If we are talking about target member override in REC like:

    1. Some fixed single member
    2. Variable like %VAR%, but this %VAR% will get the value from FOR/NEXT loop (simply duplicating lines of code).

  • How to use Dimension Build to change member property?

    I have researched online on how to do this and I think i have an understanding but I cannot get it to work. My dimension build rules file is of type Parent Child. The fields are Parent, Child, Alias. I am looking to add a Property field to change the consolidation property to - for one member. I have checked off all the options required and tried several different ways but always come with the following error on that line.
    \\Record #95 - Child Member - with no parent (3331)
    P&L - ACC OPERATING Operating Expenses -
    order is:
    Parent Child Alias Property
    What i want to do is assign the - subtraction for consolidation on the OPERATING member. Can this be done with the Parent Child type dimension build? Could this be achieved automatically in another way?

    Hey guys, thanks for the tips. The source file is tab delimited. I made sure there was a tab between Operating Expenses and the - for subtractions.  The lines look like so.
    REV_PROJ PS100001 - ACC PS100001 - ACC_PS-M9 Revenue Settlement
    REV_PROJ SC100000 - ACC SC100000 - ACC_SCS Revenue Settlement
    P&L - ACC OPERATING Operating Expenses -
    OPERATING LABOR Labour
    LABOR PAYROLL Payroll related
    I know they don't show the tab but it's there. I have the field set to Property for Account_Desc (Dimension im updating in the outline) with a value of 0. I have also checked off "Delete when the field is empty" as to not change the consolidation on the other lines. i guess i need to figure out why it's treating the final "-" as a member and not as a part of the same line holding it's property. Is there a EOL delimiter i should be setting?
