How to use Oracle Varray types in WLS 5.1

The connection pool is created using the Oracle thin driver. The connection so obtained when passed to the ArrayDescriptor throws a
ClassCastException at ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor(connection con.
While deployment,deployer throws an exception saying unresolved reference to oracle/sql/Datum, either include the class files for the same or remove the reference using the file.
Would u kindly help me with this as urgently as possible.
Thanking in anticipation.

Thanks Sree.
Is there something so called as the back-door approach to it.
I read in the articles of Struct Objects and Connection that:
If connection is obtained via:
weblogic.jdbc.jts.connection jtsConn = getConnection();
OracleConnection oracleConn = jtsConn.conn;
And this should ideally work in WLS5.1,
but still i wonder how did they obtain the connection.
It would be obligatory if someone could help me with it.
Thanks,
Kavita

Hi Kavita,
This is not possible to do this via a connection from the pool. Oracle
implements non standard methods which require OracleConnection object
instead of standard java.sql.Connection object which the pool returns.
You
have to use a direct connection using the thin driver.

  • Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling

    Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
    with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
    with WLS pooling. I also had.
    In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
    method getVendorConnection() which exposes
    the physical connection object to your code.
    Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
    WLS pooled connection(s).
    Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
    unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
    became Weblogic dependent):
    void doSmth() {
    Connection con = ...;
    Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    // + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
    // (where Oracle extensions are needed)
    // !Don't forget to don't close vCon!
    Sux.
    I found the workaround.
    Introduction
    ============
    Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
    in depth of Oracle driver the casting
    to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
    (not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
    is performed.
    Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
    Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
    implementation for all public interfaces
    which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
    Great feature!
    But I guess that all interface methods implemented
    by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
    In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
    this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:
    public OracleConnection unwrap()
    WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
    delegation to physical connection object BUT should
    return physical connection object itself!
    // Wrong implementation of unwrap()
    // delegation is used
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection.unwrap();
    // Right implementation of unwrap()
    // physical connection returned
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return physicalConnection;
    Workaround
    ==========
    1. Develop your own OracleConnection wrapper class:
    import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
    import weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection;
    public class MyOracleConnectionImpl implements OracleConnection {
    private OracleConnection con;
    public MyOracleConnectionImpl(OracleConnection connection)
    throws SQLException
    this.con = connection;
    public OracleConnection unwrap() {
    return (OracleConnection)
    ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
    /* Implement all other methods by delegation to con object */
    2. Don't get Connections directly from DataSource --
    develop your own simple (may be static) utility
    class which retrives Connections from dataSource
    and returns them wrapped into your MyOracleConnectionImpl
    to your code from some method:
    puclic abstract class MyConnectionSource {
    public static Connection getConnection() {
    Connection con = // get it from DataSource
    return new MyOracleConnectionImpl((OracleConnection)con);
    3. Add attribute RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled="false"
    to definition of your JDBCConnectionPool within config.xml
    You may do it because of you `safely` use vendorConnection --
    you don't expose it to application code.
    4. Enjoy the Oracle JDBC extensions in your code!
    Example:
    Connection con = MyConnectionSource.getConnection;
    ArrayDescriptor add =
    ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("your_type", con);
    Hope it helps to someone.

    Eugene Voytitsky

  • How to use oracle fusion middleware for integration project ?

    hi all,
    in my projects, customer (a bank) already has many applications (bankend & frontend) that are complicatedly connected. I intend to use oracle fusion middleware to integrate all applications and make adding new applications in the future easier. I have worked through documents in the oracle website but I still have no idea how to use oracle fusion middleware to address the requirement, besides oracle fusion middleware includes a bundle of applications I don't know which one I would need.
    could anyone give me some instructions ? appreciate your help.
    thank very much,

  • How to use Oracle partitioning with JPA @OneToOne reference?

    Hi!
    A little bit late in the project we have realized that we need to use Oracle partitioning both for performance and admin of the data. (Partitioning by range (month) and after a year we will move the oldest month of data to an archive db)
    We have an object model with an main/root entity "Trans" with @OneToMany and @OneToOne relationships.
    How do we use Oracle partitioning on the @OneToOne relationships?
    (We'd rather not change the model as we already have millions of rows in the db.)
    On the main entity "Trans" we use: partition by range (month) on a date column.
    And on all @OneToMany we use: partition by reference (as they have a primary-foreign key relationship).
    But for the @OneToOne key for the referenced object, the key is placed in the main/source object as the example below:
    @Entity
    public class Employee {
    @Id
    @Column(name="EMP_ID")
    private long id;
    @OneToOne(fetch=FetchType.LAZY)
    @JoinColumn(name="ADDRESS_ID")
    private Address address;
    EMPLOYEE (table)
    EMP_ID FIRSTNAME LASTNAME SALARY ADDRESS_ID
    1 Bob Way 50000 6
    2 Sarah Smith 60000 7
    ADDRESS (table)
    ADDRESS_ID STREET CITY PROVINCE COUNTRY P_CODE
    6 17 Bank St Ottawa ON Canada K2H7Z5
    7 22 Main St Toronto ON Canada     L5H2D5
    From the Oracle documentation: "Reference partitioning allows the partitioning of two tables related to one another by referential constraints. hi,
    This is an option given to you to choose (if you need to) the way you perceive this customer.Here you get options including ompetitors,Salespartner, prospect,

    See it helps you to differentiate between prospect(which you may use for quotation or inquiry purpose)Sales partner and the competetor.

  • Unsatisfied Link Error when using Oracle OCI (Type II) driver

    Using Oracle OCI (Type II) driver on HPUX with Oracle 9.2.0.4.
    If when creating a connection pool via the console, using the Oracle OCI (Type
    II) driver, you get the error "Unsatisfied link error with library libocijdbc9.sl
    or format error" then check that the library included in the SHLIB_PATH is pointing
    at the $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory and not just the $ORACL_HOME/lib

    We do not offer a JDBC driver for Linux in version 5.1. In version 6.0,we
    do offer a type 4 driver for Linux.
    In version 5.1, I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver
    available for free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver)
    with WebLogic Server. To download it:
    Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
    From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
    select Oracle JDBC drivers
    From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
    the top).
    Or, to go directly there:
    http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/software_index.htm

    Your site was built using tables, whose sizes are defined in your site.
    If we look at your first table definition, we can see:
    <table width="861" height="1449" border="3" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#868787">
    Your table has a width of 861 pixels and an overall height of 1449 pixels. Anything you put into that overall box must fit those dimensions, else
    it won't be visible. Anything you add above it will push everything down. You can redefine your sizing to let you edit more inside of the table elements.
    This is why, when you type in more text, things act weird. If you are in Dreamweaver, you must find the right cell to put your text into and then enter
    text there. Unfortunately, this is going to push things around, which were all lined up using tables. And this gets everything offset with respect to
    everything else in your website.
    And that is why everyone is saying, "Start Over!"
    I just inherited a website that has been put together using tables. I'm going to have to expend considerable effort in rewriting the entire design of the
    website because of that. because everything I intend to add to the pages on the site is going to need to be deconstructed in order to get it to work
    properly if I'm adding text and pictures that need to line up with each other.
    You need something done quick and dirty and the only way I can recommend you do that is to use Dreamweaver to show you the tables you have
    and put what you need in a new table that is defined above or below the tables you all ready have defined. Do that and then get back to someone here
    who knows how to make a website correctly to clean up your entire website and make it editable -- which will cost you some money, but it will be
    money well-spent.
    I like to quote this maxim: Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick any two. This works for website design. You can get it fast and cheap, but it won't be good. I
    think you may have chosen that route.

    thanks in advice,

    Hello Gaurav,
    First off, not sure why you are calling
    call.addNamedArgument("JOB_ID", "JOB_ID_I");
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("JOB_ID", jobId);
    You should call the first statement to indicate you will be adding in a "JOB_ID_I" argument to the query, or the second statement to add the value directly to the call, but not both. Calling both indicates your procedure is expecting two parameters called "JOB_ID" and you will get an exception if you do not define the "JOB_ID_I" argument on the query and pass in a parameter for it.
    TopLink does not currently create Oracle objects such as Structs and VARRAYs for you from java objects - atleast not for stored procedures arguments, as it does not know how or what to convert them to. You will need to create the Oracle object type yourself, and pass it into the query. I have not tested it, but it would look something like:
    UnitOfWork unitOfWork = getUnitOfWork();
    StoredProcedureCall call = new StoredProcedureCall();
    call.setProcedureName("DSM_JOB_PKG.INSERT_JOB_RUN_LOG");
    String jobId = jobIdItr.next().toString();
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("JOB_ID_I", jobId);
    Timestamp sysdate = BeanConvertUtil.getCurrentTimestamp();
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("ORDER_DATE_I", sysdate);
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("USER_ID_I", userId);
    Connection con = getSession().getAccessor().getConnection();
    oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor anArrayDescriptor = new oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor("GENERIC_STRING_TYPE",con);
    oracle.sql.ARRAY anARRAYin = new ARRAY(anArrayDescriptor, con, paramTypeIds );
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("JOB_PARAM_TYPE_IDS_I", anARRAYin );
    oracle.sql.ARRAY anARRAYin2 = new ARRAY(anArrayDescriptor, con, paramValues);
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("JOB_PARAM_VALUES_I", anARRAYin2 );
    session.executeSelectingCall(call);
