How to use variables in Report?

Good Day All,
I am new to PlSql. So please bare with me.
I have a report that runs on SSRS.
Here's what I need it to do:
When the report is executed:
1st of the month : It extracts the previous months data.
16th of the month: Extracts 1st of current month to 15th.
I am trying to use a case statement to find the correct date & then use that value for ReportDate.
ReportDate is a column in the database.
--Find 1st of month
SELECT
CASE
WHEN SYSDATE > last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -1))
AND SYSDATE < last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -1))+2
THEN
ReportDate = last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -2))
ELSE
SYSDATE
END ReportStartDate,
Using 10G.
Again, I'm fairly new to this, so go easy. Let me know if I can provide any other details.

Hi,

Did you mean "please *bear* with me"?
I have a report that runs on SSRS.
Here's what I need it to do:
When the report is executed:
1st of the month : It extracts the previous months data.
16th of the month: Extracts 1st of current month to 15th.What if it's run on some other day of the month?
The query below uses looks at the previous month when it is run anytime from the 1st through the 15th of a month, inclusive, and looks at the 1st-15th of the current month when it is run on the 16th or later.
I am trying to use a case statement to find the correct date & then use that value for ReportDate.
ReportDate is a column in the database.
--Find 1st of month
SELECT
CASE
WHEN SYSDATE > last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -1))ADD_MONTHS (SYSDATE, -1)       will always be some time in the previous month, so
LAST_DAY (ADD_MONTHS (SYSDATE, -1)       will also be in the previous month, but
SYSDATE       is always in the current month, therefore
SYSDATE > ADD_MONTHS (SYSDATE, -1)       will always be TRUE.
AND SYSDATE < last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -1))+2
THEN
ReportDate = last_day(add_months(SYSDATE, -2))That's 2 months in the past. Are you ever interested in stuff that old? Areen't you always interested either in 1 month ago, or the current month?
ELSE
SYSDATE
END ReportStartDate,
Using 10G.
Again, I'm fairly new to this, so go easy. Let me know if I can provide any other details.Whenever you have a problem, post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for a little sample data, and the results you want from that data.
See the forum FAQ {message:id=9360002} It only takes a few minutes to read, and can really help you get the most out of this forum.
I think you want something like this:
WITH     period_of_interest     AS
     SELECT     CASE
              WHEN  TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'DD') &lt; '16'
                                       -- should be '16' above.  See note
              THEN  TRUNC ( ADD_MONTHS (SYSATE, -1), 'MONTH')
              ELSE  TRUNC (             SYSDATE    , 'MONTH')
          END     AS period_start
     ,     CASE
              WHEN  TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'DD') < '16'
              THEN  TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'MONTH')
              ELSE  TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'MONTH') + 16
          END     AS period_end
     FROM    dual
SELECT     ...
FROM     table_x              x
JOIN     period_of_interest  p  ON  x.transaction_date >= p.period_start
                      AND x.transaction_date <  p.period_end
;Period_end is a slightly misleading name for the column; it's actually the first DATE after the period ends; that's why I used &lt; (and not &lt;=) when comparing it to x.transaction_date.
I'm not sure what ReportDate is in your description. This is one example of shy you need to post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for a little sample data. It could be that ReportDate is just what I called transaction_date above.

This site is garbling my code. It seens to think the   in the first
WHEN TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'DD') < '16'indicates some kind of markup, and won't display the '16', even if I put it on a separate line by itself.

Used &amp;lt; to correct garbling, after Sentinel below.

    I need to get the number of lines in internal table, which would
    be easy, using DESCRIBE TABLE itab LINES lines. But the problem
    is, that I get the name of this internal table in the field of
    another internal table, so I have to use the name of internal
    table as variable, but I don't know how to use variables with
    DESCRIBE TABLE (or if this is possible).

    loop at itable.
    add 1 to rows.

    You can try it if you don't find a better solution.

  • JNI - How to use the error reporting mechanism?

    I've developed a C++ DLL which is loaded from a commercial Win32 application (not written by me) as a plug-in for external calculations. On its initialization the C++ DLL launches the Java VM via the JNI invocation interface. When the DLL functions are called by the application, they forward the calls to Java objects inside the Java VM, again via JNI invocation interface.
    This works well, but I have encountered a weird error.
    From Java I open a JFrame containing a JTextArea as small console for debug output messages. If I turn output to this debug console off (my printToConsole routine checks whether a boolean flag is set), the string concatenation operator may lead to a crash of the Java VM.
    For example, if in one of the Java functions called from the
    DLL via JNI invocation interface the following is the first statement,
    it leads to a crash of the Java VM and the application that loaded the C++ proxy DLL.
    String test=""+Math.random(); // String test not used later
    Interestingly, if I comment this statement out, the Java code works fine WITHOUT any crash. I've already thought about potential races and synchronization issues in my code, but I don't see where this is the case. And the string concatenation error fails as well, if I insert sleep() statements in front of it and at other places in the code. However, if I turn on log messages printed to my JFrame debug console (containing a JTextArea), the String concatenation works without problems.
    So maybe the JNI interface has a bug and affects the Java VM; I don't see where my JNI code is wrong.
    One problem is that I do not get any stdout output, as the C++ proxy DLL is loaded by the Windows application, even if I start the Windows application from the DOS command line (under Windows).
    Does anyone know how to use the error reporting mechanism?
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/vm/error-handling.html
    Is it possible that the JVM, when it crashes, writes debug information about the crash into a file instead of stdout/stderr?
    My C++ proxy DLL was compiled in debug mode, but the commercial application (which loaded the DLL) is very likely not.
    I do not know hot to find the reason why the String concatenation fails inside the Java function called from the C++ DLL via JNI.

    Yes, I've initially thought about errors in the C++ code too. But the C++ code is actually very simple and short. It doesn't allocate anything on the C++ side. It allocates a couple of ByteBuffers inside the Java VM however via JNI invocation interface calls of env->NewDirectByteBuffer(). The native memory regions accessed via the ByteBuffers are allocated not by my own C++ code, but by the program that calls my DLL (the program is Metastock).
    The interesting thing is that everything works fine if output to my debug console is enabled, which means that in the Java print routine getConsoleLoggingState() returns true and text is appended to the jTextArea.
    static synchronized void print(String str)
    { MetaStockMonitor mMon=getInstance();
    if ( mMon.getFileLoggingState() && mMon.logFileWriter!=null) {
    mMon.logFileWriter.print(str);
    mMon.logFileWriter.flush();
    if ( mMon.getConsoleLoggingState() ) {
    mMon.jTextArea1.append(str);
    Only if output to the JTextArea is turned off (ie. getConsoleLoggingState()==false), the crash happens when the FIRST statement in the Java routine called via JNI invocation interface is a (useless) String concatenation operation, as described above.
    String test=""+Math.random(); // String test not used later
    Moreover, the crash happens BEFORE the allocated ByteBuffer objects are accessed in the Java code. But again, if console output is turned on, it works stable. If console output is turned off, it works when the (useless) String concatenation operation is removed in the Java routine called from C++.
    I've already thought about potential races (regarding multiple threads), but this can be ruled out in my case. It almost appears as if the JVM can have problems when called by the invocation interface (I tested it with Java 1.4.2 b28).
    All the calls between C++ and Java go ALWAYS in the direction from C++ code to Java. Unfortunately, there is no special JRE version with extensive logging capabilities to facilitate debugging. And the problem is not easily reproducible either.

    yes, my Data source is SAP BW, and connected to BOE via SAP INT KIT.
    It's too bad that SAP doesn't support so simple requirement.
    you said : user exit
    are used to address these needs.
    so there are possibility to solve my problem.
    would you give me the logic of user exit?  which part I should create the user exit
    I'm quiet familiar with user exit in BW

  • Difference between two dates, using Variables in reporting

    how to calculate the days difference between Delivery date and Billing date in reporting, using variables (SAP BW 3.5v)?

    Hi,
    If you want to do the arethmatioc operations with the date then you will have to declare the date as key figure in the cube and add it there and then update it with the date from R/3.
    You can use formula variable for this subtraction.
    Create a formula in the bex analyzer and then in the down you will get option for the formula varibale.Just make a replacement path varibale on this time characteristic for which yuou want subtraction.
    During creation use "key" in the display and "number" as the data type.
    If number is not working them you can use "date" type.
    Nothing alse needs to be done during the variable creation.
    Once you have made the formula inlcude it in the columns of the report.
    Thanks

  • How to use variables in data slices?

    Hello,
    in BI-IP I have tried to use variables in a data slice.
    The user should fill these variables.
    How can one use and fill these variables?
    Thank you
    Daniel

    Hello Horst,
    data slice is a very strong system lock. It is normally not a good decission to allow users to control this part becuse it sould be in administration of a responsible person.
    If you allow users in the web to open or close data slices, this is like a "open period" funtion in financials: Think about what could happen, if anyone else than the responsible person could do that....
    This is my point of view.
    I would do it in anoter way: Create an User exit and fill a variable like desribed above. You read each line and make a decission whether the user might see this line or not (e. g. period open? yes or no?). The period and the status for the period could be maintained in a table or in a characteristic. table might be easier.
    regards

  • How to use variables in logical file name definition FILE

    Hi Friends,
    How can I use variables in logical file name definition (tcode FILE). The requirement is to pass value in these variables (based on selection criteria), and use it as part of file name. You quick response will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kuldeep Joshi

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    In detail, the scenario is like I have created an Open Hub. Its working fine. Now I am planning to execute this open hub using process chain and for that I have to define the file output on application server along with logical file name (using tcode FILE). The logical file name contains two variables (defined in FILE) i.e. z_dept and z_fiscperiod.
    Filter value in DTP ( I will read these values from Ztable using routine )
    Dept = R&D
    Fisc period = 004/2009
    Variables defined in tcode FILE:
    z_dept for Dept
    z_fiscperiod for Fiscal Period
    Logical file name : <z_dept>_<z_fiscperiod>.csv
    Now the challenge is to populate filter values in these two variables so that the filter value can be used for naming the output file.
    My last option is to read/update SAP standard table used for storing variable values (i.e. PARAMVALUE)
    Please let me know if you can help me in this issue OR is there any standard method/FM to populate value in these variables
    Thanks,
    Kuldeep

  • How to use variable in automator?

    So I am trying to create this dictation command in automator where i can go like this "Launch Safari" or "Launch iTunes" so how to use the variable for text in the command?

    Hi,
    This is possible without a variable.
    Remove the "Ask for Text" and "Set value of Variable psize" actions.
    In the "Scale Images" action:
    -- Click on the "Options" button.
    -- click on "Show this action when the workflow runs" checkbox.
    This is almost similar to that "Ask for Text" action, since the "Scale Images" action will be displayed as a dialog, You can adjust the percentage in this dialog.

    Hello,
    try this in the sub calculate:
    HS.Exp "S#Actual.A#77300.I#[ICP None]=" & cur
    For the sub allocate, I suppose that you do not have the issue because the allocate is not launch during the consolidation process. Allocate is launched separatly by a right click, and can only be done when calculation status = "OK", which means that all calculation have been done (that could not be the case if you have an error like this in sub calculate).

    I have a string variable called codeValue and I want to use it in a dvm:lookupValue. Do you know how to use a variable in a dvm function? Below is my lookup function but I got an XPath error
    dvm:lookupValue ('cityMap.dvm','Code',codeValue,'CityNames', 'CouldNotBeFound')
    I also tried the below but it failed also
    dvm:lookupValue ('cityMap.dvm','Code',bpws:getVariableData('codeValue'),'CityNames', 'CouldNotBeFound')
    Thanks

    Hello,
    I am also receiving an error. Is there any other configuration that is necessary besides creating the dvm file and using the xpath functions. Is there something we need to do with the Mediator. I am using the dvm:lookup in my XSL transformation.

    If I remove the dvm:lookupValue functions from the XSL, it works
    So I created a simple BPEL process, created a Test.dvm just using the default values and did a transformation
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <client:processResponse>
    <client:result>
    <xsl:value-of select="dvm:lookupValue('Test.dvm','domain1','value1','domain2','Not Found')"/>
    </client:result>
    </client:processResponse>
    </xsl:template>
    I get the same error message when I run the process. When I try to test the transformation I get the error:
    Failed to transform the source XML. Start of root element expected.
    Has anyone used DVM's in 11g? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
