How to vector a jpg.

I have a small picture that I want to make larger.  Resizing in Photoshop doesn't work with the clarity.  Could I be pointed into the right direction.
thanks
Mike

If all you have is this file, then forget about any autotrace functions...
Correct. To elaborate:
There is such a huge misconception about autotracing and "resizing with clarity" as you put it (i.e.; resolution independence). There is no magic. You don't get something-for-nothing. Running an autotrace routine does not create additional resolution. And garbage in, garbage out still applies.
Entropy still rules. As in anything else, information is actually lost in mere "conversions" (especially automatic ones).True "resolution" is information. The amount of information (desired detail) and noise (undesireable detail) is just as fixed in a vector-based graphic  as it is in a raster-based image. When you autotrace an ugly (in terms of low information and noise) raster image, you do not gain the ability to enlarge it "with clarity." You simply trade one kind of low-information ugliness for another.
Consider: What would be the "most accurate" automatic vector-based tracing of your image? It would be one vector square path for each square pixel in the image. That would be a "perfect" autotrace. And functionally it would be exactly equal to the original raster image. Absolutely nothing would be gained.
That's the big misconception about autotracing. Only by applying intelligence to reinterpret the image as a vector-based graphic will yield the improvement you seek. And autotrace routines contain no reall shape-recongnition intelligence. An autotrace routine, for example doesn't know "monkey tail" from "monkey eyeball". Only human intelligence does.
Learn to use the drawing tools. That's what vector drawing programs are really all about. There is no automagic shortcut.

    Can any one give example on how to resize a jpg image. let say 120x240

    Hi.
    When you got that image in form of a file, just load it and invoke the image's getScaledInstance(...)-method.
    Here's how it could work:
    import java.awt.*;
    public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] argv) {
      // define where the image comes from:
      URL toImage = new URL("file:/C:/test.jpg");  // or the like
      // get the image:
      Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(toImage);
      // scale the image to target size (40x40 here):
      Image smallImage = image.getScaledInstance(40, 40, Image.SCALE_DEFAULT);
      // you might want to do other things like displaying it afterwards
    }HTH & cheers,

  • How to save a JPG in 256 colors?

    I'm using Photoshop CS2.
    1. How to save a JPG in 256 colors?
    2. Is there a way to see an image properties?
    -- I want to know if that image is in 256 color or not...

    Mary Jo, since you are a newcomer, you may not yet understand that in any given Adobe forum, there are a whole bunch of conversations going on at the same time. Each one of these is about a certain "topic", described in the title and opening post. The discussion sometimes stays right on point, and sometimes veers off a bit, and there are often quick side-issues branching off from the main topic, but still related. Within limits, people here try to keep the discussion on a single general topic. For example, in this topic, the initial issue is whether there is a way, in Photoshop, to limit the number of colors in a JPEG image to 256; there were discussions about whether this could be done or not, and alternative programs that may be able to accomplish this, and a comparison of the file sizes for 256 bit images in different file types.
    Your question, however, is not a logical outgrowth of the discussion. It's a perfectly good question, but it deserves its own new discussion topic. It's like a bunch of people have been sitting around a table discussing the merits of Canon vs. Nikon SLRs, and someone sits down at the table and, instead of joining the conversation, asks a completely unrelated question about point-and-shoot cameras, or camcorders.
    It's off-topic here, and you should start a new topic. Make the title descriptive, such as "Why does a 8 megapixel image result in a 3 megabyte file on my computer?" (assuming that's what you want to ask -- just "M" doesn't tell me whether you are talking about MP or MB). In the initial post, provide a more detailed description of what you want to know. Tell us what camera and Photoshop version you are using, and how you encountered the issue. People will see that a new topic raises an issue they know something about and you will get a response -- probably a good answer, if you keep in the conversation.
    [Edit: Trez hit "post" before I did. Trez-- I think she is using Photoshop, not Elements; she did say CS2.]

    add a jpg. watermark to my images in bridge and also how to batch add the watermark.
    You can't do so in Bridge, only option for a watermark inhere is via the Output Module on a PDF contact sheet.
    Best try this question in the Photoshop forum, they might have better answers because you need to create an action in PS to get what you want.

  • How do I transfer jpg images transfered to an SD card, into an iPad?

    How do I transfer jpg images transfered to an SD card, into an iPad? Have tried lots - nothing works.
    I would like to buy an iPad if this could be solved.
    I am on a PC
    I have iTunes on my desptop, not my laptop.
    When traveling I shoot RAW 22mg photos.
    I resize down to 2mg file for screen.
    I transfer to SD card to then transfer to an iPad.
    I use wifes new iPad with SD card accessory to try to get it to work but it doesn't.
    I created a test directory with subdirectories
    Synced it to iPhone 3GS and worked fine.
    Will not do syncing from laptop because ...no iTunes anddon't want it on laptop.
    Did experiment with wife's MAC desktop - it worked fine
    Card is an SD HC which supposedly works fine.
    Apple would have a customer if I could do this.
    Thanks for any possible solutions.
    Brad

    Meg:
    So far you are leading the race. I tried more scenarios on the SD card and the DCIM + names no longer than 8 characters works. However this naming and sorting convention still falls short for me. I realize what we want and what we get are sometimes two different things and I always try to seek a workaround.
    If I breakdown and install iTunes on my laptop and sync just my main directory with many longer than 8 chars sub directory names and within those many jpg's with longer than 8 chars names would that solve my dilemma?...like how it works on the iPhone?
    On the recent test with the SD attachment the sub directories did not import or even show - only those in the root. I named one sub directory with only 8 chars and one file inside less than 8 chars - not found by iPad.
    I am hesitant to do this (add iTunes to laptop) because I may not necessarily want all files synced on desktop, laptop and iPad.
    I sort many files based on events and travel days and most of the events I do are several days, hence many subdirectories...sometimes 5 weeks gone.
    Sorry to be a pain but I am trying to buy an iPad...but so far not practical reason.

  • How to open a .jpg image and edit it.

    I can't seem to figure out how to open a .jpg image or any image in Flash Professional CC. I'm quite new to this so sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. When I go to File>Open I can only see .as , .fla, .jsfl , .xsfl and .xml files. I do not have an option to be able to view .jpg or .png pictures. I would appericate if somebody could take the time and answer this for me
    Thanks

    If you want to edit a jpeg or png image, do that with a separate program such as Fireworks or Photoshop.  After you import the image into Flash you can edit the image again in these separate applications and update the image you imported into Flash via selecting the Properties option in the library menu for the image and clicking the Update button.

  • How / can I have jpg logo objects used on reports automatically updated

    How / can I have jpg logo objects used on reports automatically updated after making changes to the repository copy of the jpg logo object in the repository?   The reports are in the enterprise items folder of the repository and the logo.jpg file is in a subfolder of repository items.  I made changes but the changes seem to apply only after I set my options in crystal reports and open the actual rpt file itself.
    Is there a way to have the changes to the logo show / apply in all reports that have the repository item logo inserted into it without having to open every rpt file in the repository?

    Yes, I understand that...  the problem I was having was that check box being unchecked whenever an unrelated change was made to rpt file...  I was able to ensure that it remained checked by doing save as to the rpt file and making sure the "enable repository refresh" box was checked and replacing the file when prompted upons saving the rpt file...

    Select (highlight) the file in Finder and then use the Finder File menu Get Info (or Command I) and in the Open With section of the Get Info choose the application you want to open the file. Another method is to right-click the file in Finder.

    AlwaysJavaHi,
    Below are some excerpts from my program.. which was doing image insertions and retrievals also.. I have included the image insertion and retrieval portion.. retrieval can be done in more than one ways.. one of them is given.. for very large images, u can read chunks of data from the input stream and write it to the disk. for smaller ones , the given methods work very well..
    I tested the program with jdk1.4.0 and aveConnect3.0 driver. on an
    SQL server 7 machine from my box running windows 2000... and it worked..
    Im not still sure if this is the optimised way.. there can be other more optimised methods..
    hope this clears your problem..
