How to view definition of a view in the database

Hi !
I want to see the definition of a view that has already been created in the database. Incidently I misplaced its script. How can I see the definition since when I go to all_views table, it shows text as long datatype aand can't be displayed in sql*plus nor am I able to insert it into a new table as it gives error..."illegal use of Long datatype "
Any help will be welcome..
Regards,
Shobhit

at the sqlplus prompt,
set long 50000
Then you should be able to see the entire view definition at the sqlplus prompt.
You should not perform any dml operations in system level tables like all_views, dba_views etc.

  • How to view tables in another schema in the database

    I am starting to use the SQl Developer 1.5.
    We can connect to an oracle database successfully, expanding the tables, it shows the list of tables of one schema.
    We have other schema in the database. In the query panel, when we type in the name of the other schema such as tcs. then some table names will popup in the intellisense.
    How can we show the list tables in other schema within the same database.

    In SQL Developer left panel, there's a browse tree. There's a 'Other Users' branch under each database, expand that you will see all the option to check user's objects. Your user need to have check dictionary privilege

  • How to compile a piece of code from the database

    I've created my own object navigator which is also able to view the code of a certain object. (HTML)
    I'm trying to create a function to compile this code again to the database.
    I've tried "execute immediate" but this has the downside that It can only parse 32kb of text and that every object I create in this manner will not compile correctly. ("success but with compilation errors")
    How can I compile my own objects?

    If your objects already exist in the database, try
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER FUNCTION function_name COMPILE' ;
    Of course if you make changes, one of your options is to compile using SqlPlus (using a script).
    You could also create an external proc (Java or C) to compile the objects.

  • How to capture user name and date in the database

    How to capture the person name who edits the application and the date of edit in the database...

    Hi
    There are substitution strings you can use for this purpose.
    1.APP_USER ------is the current user running the application
    2.SYSDATE --------represents the current date on the database server
    APP_USER Syntax
    Bind variable------ :APP_USER
    PL/SQL------- V('APP_USER')
    Substitution string---------- &APP_USER.
    SYSDATE_YYYYMMDD Syntax
    Bind variable------- :SYSDATE_YYYYMMDD
    Direct PL/SQL------- APEX_APPLICATION.G_SYSDATE (DATE DATATYPE)
    PL/SQL-------- V('SYSDATE_YYYYMMDD')
    Your application will be based on a table with primary key column. You create a 'before update trigger' on that table and add columns 'UPDATED_ON' and 'UPDATED_BY' to that table. Add the following to that trigger:
    :NEW.UPDATED_ON := SYSDATE;
    SELECT V('APP_USER') INTO :NEW.UPDATED_BY FROM DUAL;

  • How to recover definition of materilized view dropped  - Recycle Bin

    Hi,
    Have just dropped a mview by mistake.
    Is there any easy way to recover this without going to database backups - e.g recycle bin or anything similar.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
    Since you did not specify a 4 digit database version, I can only gues that you have a 10g db or up.
    With flashback query you might be able to do a :
    select * from dba_mviews
    as of timestamp sysdate - 1 ;Other wise you can restore the base table from the recyclebin. The VIEW query is lost

  • How can I make a navigation dependend on the database content with JSF?

    Hi,
    I want to navigate dynamicly between pages, but pages which addresses that are taken from database. I want to take a list of page's addresses (links) from database, and while application is running, I want to generate on my page that working links. This is functionality demanded by my little CMS (Content Management System), to enable me to add and delete pages and links between them.
    But is it possible by JSF?
    As far as I could find out, JSF provides such possibilities (faces-config.xml) :
    <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/logon.jsp</from-view-id>
             <navigation-case>
                  <from-action>#{LogonForm.logon}</from-action> /*logon - function returning String as an 'outcome'*/
                   <from-outcome>success</from-outcome> /*outcome*/
                    <to-view-id>/storefront.jsp</to-view-id> /*concrete page*/
               </navigation-case>I need something like that:
    <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/logon.jsp</from-view-id>
           <navigation-case>
              <from-action>#{WhichPage.address</from-action> /*different pages' addresses
               <from-outcome></from-outcome> /*outcome not needed*/
               <to-view-id>#{WhichPage.address}</to-view-id>  //different pages' addresses from db
           </navigation-case>or just function which return directly the address of the target page (read from db). But is it possbile with JSF?
    So far only figured out one not good enough way: to add all the pages' addresses to the faces-config.xml file:( But as you can imagine, the more link I would add, the bigger mess in config file I would create.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestion or advice,
    Regards.
    T.K.

    You can implement a NavigationHandler
    public class NavigationManager extends NavigationHandler {
         private NavigationHandler _base;
         public NavigationManager(NavigationHandler base)
              super();
              _base = base;
         public void handleNavigation(FacesContext context, String actionMethod, String actionName) {
              // Put some code here, you can create a NavigationCase and a NavigationRule
              // with RuntimeConfig runtimeConfig = RuntimeConfig.getCurrentInstance(externalContext);
              _base.handleNavigation(context, actionMethod, actionName);
    }

  • How to upload files (.doc./.pdf) to the database?

    Hello,
    I know this question was raised several times before but the answers don't really make me happy.
    I have a table with a BLOB-column for the documents (different mime-types) and a varchar2(100)-column for the mime type.
    I edited the form in navigator an told the blob-field to store mime-information in the mime-type-field.
    Now, do i have to tell portal the mime-type or does it retrieve it itself?
    if i have to tell, how do i do so?
    How can i fill in the value for the mime-type-field with javascript, when the fieldname is something like abc.def.ghi?
    Javascript then will tell me that document.forms.fieldname is not an object.
    Wouldn't it be a good idea to write a howto on this subject (and other subjects too, of course)? I'll do the work if you share your knowledge with me.
    And, by the way, can you share your wisdom about retrieving the blobs from tha database for displaying and download, too?
    thank you very much,
    Ralf Schmitt

    Hi Ralf,
    see in the design time if you are
    1)Interested in only one type of content in the blob column then just mention that mime-type in the
    for eg.there will be text field "or type in fixed mime type" where you can mention the default type which you are interested in uploading.
    2)If you intent to upload files of diffrent type of mime-types then you will have to associate a column for storing the mime types for that file and for this there will be a text field.
    for eg. you will have options for "Select a column to store mime information" which will be having list of all the remaining fields in the LOV , you select which field of the table you wish to make for storing mime-type and do not set any default mime-type in the text "or type in fixed mime type" in this case.
    more explaination:
    =================
    for this case create a table like this :
    create table for_blob(id number(4),file_name blob,mime_type_of_file varchar2(400));
    when you select file_name field while designing the form you will have following option.
    "Select a column to store mime information" ---> select mime_type_of_file
    "or type in fixed mime type" ---> delete the content of this text field.
    Now when you will actually run the form you have to insert mime-types in the text "mime_type_of_file " for eg
    for PDF files: Application/pdf
    for msword :Application/msword
    for the first case just input the mime-type which you wish to upload.
    "or type in fixed mime type" ---> delete the content of this text field say for eg for PDF files:Application/pdf
    so that at run time you do not have to input any mime-type info and in this case even the field need not have the column for the mime-type.
    hope this help.
    rahul

  • How to Validate a Portal Form field from the database

    I created a Portal Form based on a procedure, which requires three parameters. One of the parameters is Item Number. I need to check if the Item Number exists in database. I am trying to use pl/sql button event handler, where I try to use the select count(*) statement to verify. However, I don't know how to reference the form field in the where clause. Please advise. Or is it possible to achieve this by creating a javascript? If you go to 'Shared Component' provider and click on javascript, you will see some system validation scripts, which you can call in the form level validation. My doubts with javascipt is how I can talk to database in the script? Any input is appreciated.

    Hi,
    You cannot access the DB from the script. If you want to access the values of a field you should use session variables. Here is a sample to access the values of a form field.
    declare
    ticket_no varchar2(20);
    flight_no varchar2(20);
    blk varchar2(30) := 'DEFAULT';
    begin
    ticket_no := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TICKET_NO');
    flight_no := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
    end;

  • How to speed insert my 1000000 records into the database?

    The test inserts 100,000 records, has spend I 30 minutes
    time,but I have 1,000,000 record to insert , is there any way to
    enhance the insertion speed?
    Thanks a lot.

    By removing ColdFusion from the process as much as possible.
    Where is the 'insertedDB' data coming from? It looks to be a
    record set?
    Are you moving data from one data source to another? If so,
    some DBMS
    have the ability to insert an entire record set in one step.
    I do not
    have the exact syntax at my finger tips, but I have done
    something like
    this in the past with Oracle. INSERT INTO aTable SELECT FROM
    bTable.
    Are you building a record set from a text file such as CSV?
    If so, many
    DBMS have the ability to do 'bulk' inserts from such text
    files and CF
    does not even need to be involved.
    As you can see, knowing exactly what are you working with
    will help us
    provide suggestions an how to improve your process.

  • How To display a table that resides in the database via JFrame.

    Hi,
    I need to display the contents that present in the table that resides in my database.
    Scenario:
    Im having Main frame window, in that im having a button, while clicking that button a new JFrame should be opened & it should display all the rows & cols of dat table that resides in my DB.
    I have no prob in opening a new JFrame during a button click, but i dont knw how to display table in the table format.
    I tried JTable but i dont know how to pass the data into the JTable.
    Kindly help me out!!!

    JTable relies on a TableModel to deliver data. You have several ways of providing this data:
    - Read it into either a Vector of Vectors (list of rows containing list of columns) or an Object[][] and create the JTable while passing the data.
    - Create a javax.swing.table.DefaultTableModel, pass it to the JTable as a model, configure it and call addRow() in order to add rows.
    - Create a custom table model class; see javax.swing.table.AbstractTableModel for a convenient base class
