How to view information based on selection from table

I currently have a roles table, usersinroles table, and a users table. The users table has a user ID, the roles table has a Role ID, and the usersinroles table has Role ID and user ID as foreign keys. Many users can have many roles. On one page I have the users first name and last name displayed in a read-only table. a user can be selected in which they are directed to a page to view the users details. How can I display on that page the selected user's roles he/she has? I've tried a view but it displays ALL the users and their roles.

Hi,
create a bind variable in the users VO and then pass the authenticated username as an argument to the ExecuteWithparams operation. This queries the VO to only show the user you are interested in. The developer guide is a good source of information and inspiration

Separate App Module, View Object based on Select not EO: Best practice?

I have a list of base tables(parameters) that are used everywhere in my application for selection components (List, Combo, Radio).
I'm considering creating a separate app module with a view object based on query for each table.
I have created a BaseTableAM application module for managing those tables, Entity objects and View Objects in update mode.
Those tables are rarely changed.
Example of table:
ItemType
item_type_id = primary key
name = description
In the BasetableAM:
ItemTypeEO entity object
ItemTypeVO updateable view object based on related entity object.
Now in my project I will create combo boxes for selection of the item_type_id.
Separate application module:
SelectionViewAM composed of View Objects based on Select statements and not on Entity Objects.
Example of view object ItemTypeViewVO:
SELECT ItemType.ITEM_TYPE_ID,
ItemType.NAME
FROM ITEM_TYPE ItemType
All view objects in this application module will be read-only and for selection only.
By basing all those View Objects on select statements not based on Entity Objects I suppose there will be no locking and "value changed" management => less overhead.
Is this a good practice?
Being read-only I could have based those View Object on Entity Object with flag updateable set to no, what would you recommend?
By creating a separate Application Module for those selection view objects, I know that update will not be possible.

Are you planning to use this AM as a nested AM inside other application modules?
If you don't the "selection AM" will have its own, separate database connection/transaction.
If you do, it will share connection, transaction with its containing "root" AM.
It may not be relevant to your application, but just realize (which is explained in the article I point to above) that view objects that are not related to entity objects do not "see" pending changes in the current transaction. That feature depends on the VO/EO cooperation. It's fine to build VO's without an EO -- in fact we've made it easier to do this in 10.1.2 in the Design Time wizards -- but you just want to make sure you realize what features it's giving up. If you don't need those EO-related features, then by all means create an Expert Mode VO that's not related to EO's.

URGENT : select from table statement in ABAP OO

Hi all,
I am an absolute ABAP OO beginner and need some quick help from an expert. How can I make a selection from an existing table (eg MARA) in an BADI which is programmed according to ABAP OO principles.
In the old ABAP school you could make a TABLES statement at the beginning and the do a SELECT¨* FROM but this does not work in ABAP OO.
How should i define such simple selections from existing tables. Anyone ?

Special Grant to use "Select * from Table(cast..."??

I've recently created the types and function to use the Table(Cast(funtion) as type)). It works fine, and gives me the correct result. I've granted execute on the types and on the function to a role that is enabled for a user, but when the user tries to use the "select * from table(cast(function) as type))", he gets a "ORA-01031: Insufficient Privileges" error message. Is there any other grant that must be given to the role, so that the user can execute the select?

I'm not sure what anonymous PL/SQL block means. When I (or the user) try to run the select, I enter all the information, i.e., the owners for the type and function: "select * from table(cast(a.my_function(my_argument) as a.my_type))". I'm trying to use SQLPlus at this time, and I have Oracle 8i.
I didn't to explicitly grant execute to the user because that would go against some rules I have to follow... I'll se if I give it a try though!

Insert into table a (select * from table b) - need pk?

I'm going to insert into table FINAL (select * from table STAGING) - same structure but in STAGING the ID column has nulls.
Do I need to provide the ID (primary key) for table FINAL or will it get created based on sequence/trigger?
If I were doing this in a loop I'd get the next val from the sequence but on a simple insert, I'm curious.

For ex, if you want to get the first 5 employees who get the least salary, you use,

I keep hitting this error when I tried to display the data after the selection from table. Using backing beans w data control to do it
Err: java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.Collections$SingletonList cannot be cast to java.lang.Integer
Table used ArrayList to retrieve out the wanted data. E.g uses A object
To display: selected data to retrieve the selected row to display as a read-only form layout below the table. E.g. need to get A.getName() to match with B object B.getName() then uses the B object to retrieve out the data.
Anyone know how to do it?

Follow these steps....
1. Goto se16 and enter ur table name.. press F7 you can get selection screen now press F8...
2. Click one perticuler record that u want to delete.. and press Change icon in App'toll bar...
3. enter ?H at command field and again press enter...
4. switch into classical debugger...
5. write CODE at field ... it will gives EDIT as value...
6. Change that EDIT into SHOW and press pencel icon just beside the SHOW...
7. Now press F8...
8. you can get delete option over there...
