How to write a pdf?

hello
how do you write a pdf? is there a specification for writing it that i can just dump my info following that spec. into a file and thats that? is there a pdf package that i can use that already does this? i didnt see anything in the docs, but i see some company has done this, so i am curious how one goes about and writes a pdf

Yes, there is a spec. And yes, you just dump your info into a file following it. You can download it from here:

But let me warn you that it's something over 500 pages long, so it might take you more than a couple of minutes to absorb.

2) Have an automation plug-in listen for your filter plug-in and then create the PDF via Photoshop, then call your plug-in again? Not exactly sure of your workflow here.

I get the pdf content then it returns the string value but ther is no option to write the string to PDF, and we only add a image file to PDF,but i want to know how to wrote the string value to PDF file,

I don't know what your problem is but that's almost certainly the wrong question to ask about it. Java (including iText) uses only Unicode characters. (You may consider some of them to be "special" if you like but Unicode doesn't.) And when it does that, they aren't encoded in UTF-8 or any other encoding.
So can you describe your problem? That question doesn't make sense.

you can find some information about the creation of calculated columns in the HANA Modeling Guide (http://help.sap.com/hana/SAP_HANA_Modeling_Guide_for_SAP_HANA_Studio_en.pdf).
Within chapter 6.2.1 (Create Analytic Views) you can see under point 7 some basics and also a simple example. The same is also valid for Calculation Views.
Chapter 8.9 (Using Functions in Expressions) describes the different available functions.
You also can use the integrated search in the HANA Studio by clicking the "?" button in the button left corner. Then you get some links in the side panel with related information.
In general you can write your expression manually or you can just drag and drop the functions, elements, operators into the editor window. For example if you drag and drop the "if" function into the editor window you get "if(intarg,arg2,arg3)" inserted. The arguments can be replaced manually or also by drag and drop.
It is also worse to use the "Validate Syntax" button on top of the editor window. It gives you directly a feedback if your expression syntax is correct. If not you get some helpful information about the problem (ok, sometimes it is a little bit confusing because of the cryptic error message format ).

But none of these does work.
Adobe Reader starts up but never opens pdf files.

First step would be to make yourself familiar with InDesign desktop version.
Whatever you intend to achieve, do it there manually. (see regular app docs or forums)
Then try to automate your steps with scripting (see scripting docs or forum)
If you can do it with a script in the desktop version, that script will likely also run in ID Server. (see server forum).
If you can specify missing features not achievable thru scripting or manual use, reconsider to write a plugin (this forum).
A seasoned C++ programmer will need a few months to learn the basics, wade thru tons of documentation etc. Alternatively consider to hire a consultant to do the development work for you.

Write a PDF using FTP

Hi people,
I have got a tricky question. How can i write a PDF to a target destination using FTP? It seems easy but i have got same constraints, which are:
1 - I will get data from PDF in one string element (xstring in R/3, base64Binary in PI 7.0), that i get from an RFC call.
2 - I can not have anything from this PDF in monitoring, string or PDF file. (A must be)
3 - I can't add any beans. (I am not allowed)
4 - I can´t write or keep this PDF file in a PIs UNIX machine directory. Neither R/3 can do that. (We are not allowed)
5 - I am not allowed to change stuff in J2EE engine, or any kind of engine. Can't add/change adapters either.
You may ask, what can you do then? Well, i can write code for mappings. And put that mapping anywhere it fits, taking in consideration the 5 constraints above.
Is ABAP mapping a solution? Is it possible to write code in ABAP without saving PDF file in a directory?
Ideas, who can give me some?

Hi Pedro,
I'm not sure if you can avoid msgs being monitored, but you can definitely avoid a user from seeing it.
In the S_XMB_MONI authorization object, you can define the access level for the users in the monitor by parameters like component, party, interface name etc.
By default, it's probably "*" but you could limit access of all users to this message.
Other than that, try to set the TRACE lvl to 0 in SXMB_ADM.

A JSP is a combo of HTML and Java, so you can't really "display" a PDF file in a JSP.
You can provider a href link to the PDF file in your JSP.
You can use some utility package to read the contents of the PDF, pull certain things out of it, and display that in your JSP as html
In a servlet you can set the content type to application/pdf and write the binary data of the PDF back to the browser. Once the browser finishes reading in the data it should open the PDF.

How to write to file Unicode characters

I have PDF files that I need to copy some strings out of and put them in various fields in a Postgres database. The goal is a Java screen into the database, whiere I mark and copy the PDF text and then paste it into a field in a Swing window, and from there into the database.
I am unsuccessful at reading a PDF file, so I have opted to cut and paste the PDF file into an MS word file. This results in errors in certain unicode characters. I am trying to rectify them by a simple program, a start of which is below, by a replacement of the erroneous char by the proper unicode symbol. As, shown by the following, I cannot figure out how to write out a unicode character. Do I need to wrap (which I don't know much about yet)? Or do I have a file problem? (I have a Vista machine.) I don't think it should be impossible to write unicode into a file, as I am able to write into MS Word files phonological symbols, Russian, and Sanskrit. So, it must be in the java.
P.S.: I am reading Schildt's Java: A Beginner's Guide and am through chapter10, but remaining chapters are on threads, enumerations, autoboxing, static import, annotations; generics,; applets, events, and miscellaneous topics, and, finally Swing. Maybe its in the autoboxing?
Any help would be most appreciated.
