How we implement push on a flex applications?

Hi
Can any body tell me how we can implement push in flex.please tell me what actually this push means.even i have no idea what is push in flex?
So please provide me link of some basic tutorial or explain me.

It meansh taht the servers sends data to your client through a persistent
channel. Hence the push. You have a permanent connection between the Server and
the Client. The client does not have to ask for updates/data it just gets them.
This is different from the pull where client makes request for updates tho the
server and the server replies with data as a result of the client requests. Pull
is getting stuff ion demand.

this is a high level explanation.
You have to use LCDS/Blaze DS in the backedn they have this kind of
functionality built in. On the flex side there si not that much to do configure
communication channels and listen for the incoming data. Once is there it is the
same as in pull.

I am Ibran, I am using Flex4.5, in that i want to display a pdf file like images.
How can i do it please anyone tell me.
I have used navigateToURL(url),but this was going into navigation and i can't see my textfield and buttons.
So without this navigateToURL(url) how can i display a pdf file in flex without navigation so that i can see my textInputs and buttons.

Flash does not have the ability to load/display/manipulate PDF files, so you can't open it directly in the flex application. With clever HTML and javascript, you can make it appear that it is in the same window, but it will actually be in a separate window/div in the browser. And yes, this has always seemed absurd to me that Adobe doesn't support PDF's......

I am using "http://api.google.com/GoogleSearch.wsdl" file to implement google search in portal application. but i am not able to get the search result. how to implement google search. is this "http://api.google.com/GoogleSearch.wsdl" is vaild now ?. how to achieve the soultion.

Hi Shanthakumar,
The "GoogleSearch.WSDL" is no longer available as google has replaced it with the new AJAX based searching and they have eventually removed it from public use as well from 7th September 2009. So, I would imagine you would not be able to use the earlier WSDL file for google search. You might have to look in using the new "AJAX Search API". How to open user file in Flex Application

Hi forum,
I develop flex2 application where user can browse and open
XML file: the file should be loaded to text area.
Could you, please, advice me how to browse and open user
file?
I found FileReference class but it looks that it can only
upload file to a server. I need to open the file in flex
application.

The issue isn't Flex, but the Flash Player. It is too much of
a security risk to allow SWFs running in the Flash Player to open
local files. Imagine going to a web site that has a SWF banner ad -
but that banner ad opens local files and sends them to a remote
system - all of your personal and financial information transfered
without your consent.
Flex apps running in the AIR player are different - the end
user must launch them explicitly, just like any other local
program.

How to create multiple pages using flex application.

Hi all,
i am doing flex application which contains 5 different
pages,
to do this i have used viewstack component to navigate
between the pages.
this is working fine if all my pages are of same size. each
page as different background image.
but i have to create pages with different sizes.
my first and second page are small and remaining pages are
big.
when i navigate to 3rd or 4th page, it is showing scrollbar
inside swf.
but i want scrollbar for browser window not inside my swf
anyone please guide me how to create pages in flex
application.
i have one more doubt, if my page contains some html links ,
how to open those links,
is it posible to open the link in new window.
please help me , i have no idea how to create web
applications using flex

I am getting vertical scrollbar for page3 and page4,
please tell me how to avoid this, Is their any other method
to do this.

background image loads very slow, before it loads all the flex
components will load. So when you open this please wait till
background image loaded, to move to next and back pages.

How to embed Passcode mechanism in flex application

Hi,
I'm developing a flex based application. Almost everything is done. Now I would like to let the users to install this product only for 3 times on their machine.
For this, Passcode mechanism is a good idea. The user has to enter this passcode which went alongwith the CD / DVD product after installing the product.
They shall use this code for only 3 times. After that the product should not accept this passcode. Could anyone suggest me how to accomplish this task in flex ?
Any tutorials for this ?

The AIR desktop application is already made. The user will have to purchase the CD to install it. He/She should have to input the Code which went along with the CD while installing the product.
He / She should be able to use this CD only for 3 times in the same computer OR use this CD in 3 different computers for 1 time in each.
Simply it should be used only for 3 times.
Could anyone suggest me how to accomplish this task ?

How to implement GP for an approval application in webdynpro

I want to develop a webdynpro application which should create a callable object to be used in GP.
In the application, one view is there ,which one EP user will submit to a higher authority to get approval.
the higher authority person will get that view with some additional fields(like remark field, approval button etc.).
How can I use GP for this type of application??
Can I use the same view for both the levels of users with some changes??
How can I create such a webdynpro application using GP?
I have gone through some of the forum documents in all those, only one view is there.
How can I link different webdynpro views(based on business scenario) using Gp??

How to dinamically add label to flex application...?

Hi,
I'm new to flex and I have to make component similar to this:

I have 3 questions:
1. As you can see, component is divided on regions (here is 4 regions with different colors, but there can be more regions - this should be programatically). Now, above this box should be scale with number of region
(you can see this scale to). Scale should also be programatically, based on number of regions - 4 in this example.
Which is the best control for doing this? Is there any
flash builder control that support customization with scales and something like this component, or I have to use drawing for this, as I have already have?
2. How can I make opacity css effect? For example, in component on previous link I want to make some areas of box black but with opacity, so area under black is seen. Something like on this picture:

3. How can I add label dinamically in action script code? I tried:

How can I have my adobe flex application scale to fit the users screen ?

I have been looking on google and couldn't find a answer. I have a application I created in adobe flex and I need it to scale to the users screen and fill the entire browser window no matter what.

If you want your application to fill the user's whole screen you could set it to be in FullScreen
Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN
Write the above code into the callback of "applicationComplete"

How can I tell if a sound is playing in Flex application?

Hi All,
Simple question but I can't seem to find an answer to. How can I tell if my Flex application is currently playing sounds from a SWF file?
What I'm trying to do is load a SWF file dynamically into my Flex app. However, these SWF files have sounds in them and they don't seem to stop even after I unload the SWF files.
I'm trying to get around this by stopping all sounds using the flash.media.SoundMixer.stopAll() but it's getting called too early, before the SWF files are fully loaded and rendered in the application.

Implementing KM scheduler in WD application

HI All,
Can anybody guide me on KM schedulers and how to implement the same in WD applications.
We have a WD application where we are creating PDF forms. Now we need to schedule the process and want to run the job at a regular interval of time. Is KM scheduler the right way to do it?
Please suggest on how to implement the same.

Yes, u were correct. I didnt configured my Index at portal correctly and so was the issue.

I mean I tried Standard Search URL of portal :-

It shows various other details along with what we get using KM API.
for example: search relevance percentage, seached text etc
How do I get these parameters from API?

How to implement a single sign on feature using java.

Hi,
I have a question like , How to implement **single sign on** feature in java without using any third party framework or tool like LDAP or any other which is available in the market.
Actually the situation is i have all security information into the table and those information is used for single sign on . If a user logged in from a jsp loging page all the security role should be assigned to that particular user.
We can do this using LDAP but i am not supposed to use the LDAP or any third party tool . I have to write a java class for that .
please suggest me the method , how to implement this in a web application.

you could setup a token that specifies a user is authenticated. other applications that u want SSO can check for existance of this token
if it is HTTP - you can save the token as a cookie and downstream apps look for this token
yr code needs to validate that the token/cookie was indeed a valid one and not subject to man-in-the middle attack.

Flex has a very limited support for HTML, thus you cannot
create a full featured editor within flex. The only work arounds I
have seen are done using IFRAME's over your app.
Not sure if it an option, however Apollo does a good job of
addressing this issue by allowing full feature Javascript and HTML.

Calling a FLEX application from html, using parameters

Hi guys,
I have this html:

As you can notice, there is an Input field ("TrackNbr") and a selection field ("Carrier") with three options... The user enters a Tracking Nbr.
in first field and chooses one of the three options from the second field and hits <enter>. In this moment, as you can see from "action" area, an html (part of a FLEX application) is called. The problem is that the parameters ("TrackNbr" and "Carrier") are not transmitted and I don't know how to do that.
This FLEX application accepts parameters using URL fragments technique (because could be called from another FLEX application, too)
but obviously this cannot work with the above described form.
I read about External Interface class, but everybody is talking about calling ActionScript functions, not FLEX applications. Being a newbie in this area,
I am sure I am missing something, but what?
Any help would be very appreciated, as usual...

Problem solved.
I got rid of the form tag (and "action", obviously); instead, I created a JavaScript function used for onClick event of the submit button. Inside this function, I captured the values (using getElementById method) of the input and select field and, using these values, I created the URL for my FLEX application (used with location.href property), and BAM! Everything works like a charm... I am even able to use the Back button to exit the FLEX app and return to the selection screen.
Now my question is, why does it work??? No complaints at all, just curiosity... I didn't use External Interface class, no exposed ActionScript functions prior calling frm JavaScript, no fancy stuff all sites I saw talking about...
Grizz..., I have a feeling that what you described above is a simpler and more advanced way to do about the same thing I did; am I right?
