How would you transfer data?
I just unboxed a new to me early 2008 octo 2.8. Its a big upgrade from my G5 listed in my sig. In my G5 I've got 2 1TB drives. One is the boot and the other is for Time Machine. With all my previous macs, I've connected them with a firewire cable and done the transfer of my admin account to move all my data, apps, etc and to keep all my settings. Is there a better way to do this with the "new" mac?
I've got a new 1TB Caviar Black coming today from OWC that I was planning on using as the main drive in the 2.8. Is there a way to put the old G5 drive in the 2.8 and have the data pulled to the new drive? Or am i stuck with FW speeds (i've got both FW400 and FW800 cables).
Expanding on that question... Should I just buy another 1TB drive and RAID them somehow to have disks 1&2 acting as a 2TB drive and backing up to disks 3&4 as a 2TB drive?

With most apps, you will find settings in the username/library/application support or /preferences folder.
Data files/folders should be a simple drag+drop copy to their new location, but I don't know Aperture's file system.
With Mail for example, you'll probably have to rebuild the mailboxes on the new system (in Mail, go to Mailboxes in the menu, it's at the bottom).
I myself have one Raid0/2HDDs partition for system, apps and user ( without any iTunes etc. data on it, it's 25GB ), and keep random files/data on the 2nd partition of that drive (all that bookkeeping stuff, most important project folders, big pile of program installers, junk I use frequently, bits you keep adding and changing etc.).
Again, I'm not using iTunes, iPhoto or iSuch, which kinda forces your data libraries into the user folder; my user folder is 11GB, most of it in Mail, desktop stays as empty as possible.
Scratch and current project files are on partitions of another internal Raid0 array , which leaves room for a 3rd partition for large stuff like texture libraries, download parking space etc.).
Then all main data storage is on external FW drives (double backup), as I don't need to access all my older (mainly image) files very often .
And then there is a 5th internal HDD with a test system, and a Windows 7 partition.
Some more external FW HDDs for double/triple Superduper backups of all the internal drives, and one FW drive for a time machine backup of the first internal Raid array .
Lean and mean, and very easy to backup fast.

I am trying to use my Mac Time Capsule as a wireless external hard drive for my MacBook Pro, so how do I transfer the data from a toshiba external hard drive, to my Mac Time Capsule?
Drag and drop or copy and paste files just as you would do with any normal Finder operation.
The Time Capsule is located under the SHARED heading in the Finder.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and double click the folder that appears representing the drive....named Data....unless you have changed the name......to mount the drive on the desktop.
Drag/drop or copy/paste files to the icon on the desktop or to the open window there. -

Okay so, i just got a new iPad air, to replace with my old ipad 2. I have already set up the new ipad, and backed up the old one. I went into the settings of the new iPad, and hit 'Restore from backup'. When i did this, it restored the ipad to the backup, but it only managed to get all of my photos, and three of my apps. None of my music was transferred, and neither was the rest of the backup. Now i cannot figure out how to transfer the rest of the data to the new ipad. How do i do this??
If you only backup with iCloud and have never used iTunes, then there is nothing more for you to do. But you have the iPad original so I'm guessing that you must have used iTunes at some point. This is what I would do - if you still use iTunes.
Backup the iPad, transfer purchases into iTunes, and sync one last time. If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

I have an iPod Touch and i would like to purchase an iPad. So i am wondering if i can safely transfer the data from the ipod to the ipad? I have a lot of games that took a long time to achieve things in and i would not like to loose all that data. So i was wondering if i used the same itunes account and the same gamecenter account if this would work? I really dont know what will work and what won't work, so if you could help me out i would really like to know. Thanks
Sort of but its kind of all or nothing for the whole device.
You can restore the iPad from a Touch backup in iTunes but it will overwrite all the information and data on your iPad. You could then re-sort out your iPad but its kind of overkill.
There is no application specific data transfer.

I have a laptop and the hard drive had to be replaced because it WILL NOT work (This broken hard drive will be refered to as "HD1" from now on). So I had no choice but to have HD1 replaced with a better hard drive (the new one will be refered to as "HD2" from now on). I had HD1 for about 5 years, but what is stuck on HD1 is my itunes library will all of my music, like I said before HD1 will not work so I cannot retrieve any of my itunes data, or any data to be exact. But also, my data that was synced in HD1's itunes library is also on my ipod touch, which is still functional for the time being. HD2 has been installed and working perfectly and I installed itunes on it as well. If I synced my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library, all of my music on the ipod touch will get deleted. What I'm trying to do is have all of my music on my ipod touch transfered to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted.
Key things to remember:
-"HD1" is my broken hard drive
-"HD2" is my new and awesome hard drive
-I can't access HD1 at all because it doesn't work
-I have an ipod touch with all of HD1's music on it
-HD2 has an empty itunes library on it
-I need a way to transfer all the data on my ipod touch to HD2's itunes library without having anything deleted
Is there someone, anyone who can help me out with this?I think so when you sign in your itunes library with your apple id which you were using on HD1 the data will be transfered or simply use icloud.

You can do your file transfers with the swiss army knife that aqua suggested. That was my first thought.

However, if you purchase an external firewire drive, it will give you far more options. You can install a clean system on it using your Mac Book Pro and try to revive your G5. The G5 will boot from an external firewire drive but not the USB adapter/swiss knife.
You can also open the external case, swap out drives and use it as a firewire version of the swiss army knife to transfer files from the G5.
If you get the G5 is going, you could look at Disk Utilities and see if something on the G5 drive is the reason the computer is not starting.
Just some options to consider.

What data do you want to transfer ? Music, films, tv shows, photos and ibooks are done by syncing in iTunes (for which there is some help in the iPad manual which can be downloaded from here http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad). Documents can also be done via iTunes, but it depends upon the app and the transfer method(s) that it supports e.g. file sharing via the bottom of the device's apps tab on your computer's iTunes, via your wifi network, cloud services, email attachments etc
Edit : have you got the Keynote app on your iPad, or any other app that supports keynote presentations ? Without a 'suporting' app you can't store a document/file on the iPad (unlike computers files have to be stored within an app)..

Authorize your new computer's iTunes first - Store>Authorize this computer.
1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

I know how to display each line of the .txt file data, but I do not know how to display the whole thing.
Here is how I did to display each line of data using the message box:
