HOWTO?  Make JSP tags small in JDev Design

I use the JDev Design view to quickly navigate around my JSP pages. However the visual tags become huge and make it hard to use. Is there a way to make the visual tags small; Say show only the type of tag?
Thanks
A

Not sure whether you have turned on the 'Execute Tag in Visual Editor' option in Manager Libraries dialog or not.
If you haven't turned that option on, then there is a way to just show the jsp tag name.
Go to Tools->Preference,
Select JSP and HTML Visual Editor
check the 'Show JSP Tag Name Only' option
Select OK.
Now, go to your jsp page and hit refresh and see whether this helps.

  • JSP Tags in JSPX

    I have been using jsp tags (.tag) in my JSF-JSPs to reuse components.
    As I have seen, Oracle recommends using .jspx instead of .jsp, so in my way to create a new application using jspx I found that I can not make the jsp tag work (using jspx and tagx)
    This is the code I'm trying:
    ---------------- prubaTag.tagx -----------------
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.0"
    xmlns:af="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces">
    <af:outputText value="Hello from tag"/>
    </jsp:root>
    ---------------- prubaTemplate.tagx -----------------
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1252'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.0"

    <title>TemplateTest</title>

    This is from 4GL Developer Guide
    " 11.3 Creating a Web Page
    While JSF supports a number of presentation layer technologies, JDeveloper uses JSP
    as the presentation technology for creating JSF web pages. When you use JSF with JSP,
    the JSF pages can be JSP pages (.jsp) or JSP documents (.jspx). JSP documents are
    well-formed XML documents, and the XML standard offers many benefits such as
    validation against a document type definition. Hence, Oracle recommends that you
    use JSP documents when you build your web pages using ADF Faces components.
    Unless otherwise noted, the term JSF page in this guide refers to both JSF JSP pages and
    JSF JSP documents. "
    By the way, I have solved this problem using:
    xmlns:tags="urn:jsptagdir:/WEB-INF/tags/"

  • How to render custom JSP tags

    We have our own custom JSP tag libraries (some of them extend the Struts tags, but many do not) and want those to render correctly in the design view.
    Is that supported by NitroX Struts, or will it only work with built-in Struts tags?
    If it is supported, how does one get NitroX to run the custom tags?

    It is possible to customize many aspects of the rendering of a custom tag. This is done using a combination of an M7 specific metadata, and standard css rules.
    For example, you can change the label, icon and border of a custom tag by doing the following steps:
    1) Create a folder named "nitrox" where your tld file is located. For example if you have "/WEB-INF/app.tld" then create a
    folder "/WEB-INF/nitrox/".
    2) In the nitrox folder created above, create a file named "app.tlei" (for Tag Library Extra Information). The file name used here should match the name of the tld file. In this case "app".
    3) Paste the following content in the app.tlei file:
    <taglib-extrainfo>
    <css-uri>app.css</css-uri> <!-- an optional css file relative to this tlei file -->
    <tag name="myTag">
    <display-name>My Tag</display-name> <!-- The name displayed in the Tag Libraries view -->
    <rendering-label>{tag-name} ({name})</rendering-label> <!-- This will display the value of the "name" attribute in addition to the tag name in the tag view in the JSP design editor. -->
    <small-icon>images/myTag.gif</small-icon> <!-- The image uri relative to this tlei file. This is used in the Tag Libraries view and in the JSP design editor.-->
    </tag>
    </taglib-extrainfo>
    All customization tags are optional.
    4) Create the css file referenced from the tlei file above (in this example app.css in the same directory containing the tlei file).
    5) Paste the following content in the app.css file:
    myTag {border: 1 solid red; display: "inline"}
    This will render the tag as inline (i.e as one graphical object) even if the tag has nested content.
    In addition, you can use any standard css style property.
    You can customize other tags in the same fashion.
    If a custom tag inherits from a Struts tag, then the tag can inherit the full built-in tag customization as shown in the following example:
    Suppose you have a tag named "myText" that extends the Struts html:text form field tag. To inherit the NitroX html:text customization you follow the steps:
    1) insert the following in the tlei file described above:
    <tag name="myText">
    <inherit taglib-uid="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-html" tag-name="text" />
    </tag>
    2) Insert the following css rule in the css file referenced from the tlei file:
    myText {m7-inherit: "input-text"; display: inline}
    This will inherit the built-in css style for form text fields.
    Likewise, you can inherit the other Struts tags css styles by using the following rules:
    myPassword {m7-inherit: "input-password"; display: inline}
    myCancel {m7-inherit: "input-submit"; display: inline}
    myCheckbox {m7-inherit: "input-checkbox"; display: inline}
    myRadio {m7-inherit: "input-radio"; display: inline}
    mySelect {m7-inherit: "select"; display: inline}
    myTextarea {m7-inherit: "textarea"; display: inline}
    3) The inherited tag library file (in this example the struts-html.tld), must also be present under the WEB-INF directory.

  • JSTL Function Causing JDev Designer to Hide Field

    I added a JSTL function to an OutputText field in an ADF Web application. The function itself works at run-time; however, in the JDev Designer, the Designer does not display the field.
    What I did was this:
    1. Added the namespace prefix to the page fragment:
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.1"
    xmlns:af="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/rich"
    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
    xmlns:fn="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/functions"
    xmlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core">
    2. Added the function to an af:outputText. To keep this post simple, in the below example i just used 'MMM' as the fn:toLowerCase() param value:
    <af:panelLabelAndMessage label="#{viewcontrollerBundle.LOGGER_PROTOTYPE_2}" id="plam4"
    rendered="#{bindings.Type1.inputValue !=2 and bindings.MessageLevelId.inputValue != 0}">
    <af:outputText value="#{fn:toLowerCase('MMM')}" id="ot4"
    inlineStyle="font-family:'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"/>
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>
    At runtime 'MMM' is correctly displayed as 'mmm'. However, the field is not visible in the JDev Designer - which will make this confusing to maintain. Is there something I am doing wrong, or am i missing a step?
    Versions: JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, Linux. JSTL functions library is for v. 1.2.
    Thanks for your help.

    There is no JDev version 11.1.1.6.0 (at least officially).
    Anyway, can you check what you see if you add some static text in front of the EL.
    I guess jdev tries to calculate the value, fails and you end up getting nothing (or in case of an outputText with no text which means nothing).

  • Importing classes that implement jsp tags

              I was making a custom JSP tag library. The tag functionality was implemented in
              a class called, lets cay ClassA. I made the tld file and put it under the WEB-INF
              directory. The class which implemented the functionality was placed under WEB-INF/classes
              directory. I had the imported the tag library using the taglib directive. I was
              getting an error which said "cannot resolve symbol". But when I in the JSP file
              I imported the class file which implemented the taglib functionality the error
              vanished. Is it necessary to import the class files even if the taglib is imported.
              The documentation does not say so. Or is there some configuration I have to make.

    I think was a side effect of the .jsp changing redeploys the web app in 6.0.
              When the web app was redeployed your directory structure was reread and thus
              it found your .tld.

  • JSP Tags and pooling.

    We are researching JSP Tags as a method of seperating our creative and coding efforts. Our research is showing that JSP tags is a resource hog and noticed that none of the JSP Tags are being pooled. Docs that we have looked at suggest that pooling does occur, but we do not see it happening. Is anyone using this technology and if so how is the performance?

    Cameron,
              In general, what kind of "interesting bugs" and "design flaws" do you mean?
              I would expect that using any kind of cache can allow for bugs due to developers
              confusion... but are there inherent "bugs" (or design flaws) that are built into
              WL's Cache tag?

  • JSP Tags problem

    I am using jsp tags and i have some text boxes defined like this:
    <html:text property="textbox"/>
    and from js i want to make some validations an i get the values from the text boxes like this: document.getElementById("textbox")
    I am testing my application from eclipse and from there it works just fine but when i try to run it under firefox document.getElementById("textbox") it doesn't work
    could some one tell me why
    thanks in advance,

    View source, does the generated <input type="text" have an id of textbox? If not, then you need to change the custom tag attributes so it does (id="textbox" ?)

    The tag lib is gotten from jakarta project and I'd like to know which steps i have to follow.
    Thank you very much

    Hi,
    What you have to do is this:
    - Include the jar file in the WEB-INF/lib
    - Include the tld file in a directory under WEB-INF, for example tlds
    - Create a mapping in the deployment descriptor (web.xml), to make the taglib available, something like this:
    <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/io</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/io.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    Then in the jsp, you have to invoke it like this:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/io" prefix="io" %>
    <io:http url="http://mustang:4004/NASApp/fortune/fortune" action="GET"/>
    Hope this helps

  • Standard JSP Tag Library ---- beginner

    Hi
    i'm using Jdeveloper 9.0.3 to develop my JSP pages.
    i'm a begiiner in JSP world & I want to use jsp tag libraries.
    i've tried this :
    <%@taglib uri="/lib/core.jar" prefix="c" %>
    and there were 2 errors :
    Error(5): java.io.FileNotFoundException: META-INF/taglib.tld not found in the jar file
    Error(5): Unable to load taghandler class: /lib/core.jar
    what is (taglib.tld) and how could i found it ? -- error 1
    how to make it possible to enable to load the taghandler class:/lib/core.jar ? -- error 2
    thank you

    <%@taglib uri="/lib/core.jar" prefix="c" %>
    Wrong.
    The URI has to match the value in the TLD, which you
    will find inside the standard.jar in the Jakarta
    release.
    Which JSTL are you using? The URI for the 1.0 JSTL
    standard, which is valid for servlet spec 2.3 and JSP
    spec 1.2, is http://java.sun.com/jstl/core for the
    core library.
    The URI for the 1.1 JSTL standard, which is valid for
    servlet spec 2.4 and JSP spec 1.3, is
    http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core.
    Put the standard.jar and jstl.jar in your WEB-INF/lib
    directory and use the appropriate URI in your JSPs.
    Don't have a <taglib> entry in your web.xml. Tomcat
    will find the TLD in the JAR file by automatic
    discovery if you're using Tomcat 4.1 or later.
    %I dont know what is the TLD and how to use or download it ... please explaine priefly
    and please note that i'm using JDevloper 9i (9.0.3) not Tomcat
    Thank you

  • F:invokeUrl jsp tag and child objects

    Hey all,
    Does anyone know if its possible to use the f:invokeUrl tag on a method in a child object? eg:
    <f:invokeUrl var="myObject.myChildObject" methodName="myMethod" />
    I've also tried:
    <f:invokeUrl var="${myObject.myChildObject}" methodName="myMethod" />
    with no luck. I've gotten the above to work using the f:invoke jsp tag.
    What I'm trying to do is put my ajax type functions in the objects that make the most sense. If I can't get this to work, I'll need to make presentation objects with all my ajax functions, create an instance and put it into scope, which I rather not do.
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Graham,
    I can't say if it will work or not, because its a better practice to leave all logic outside of the jsp (and I really don't know!). Do the logic in an activity, then only use the jsp to display the values. Keeping the logic outside is a much easier way to keep track of the data, and also re-use if necessary.
    Customarily, a 'view' object is created. FileStatusView for example, would be a BPM Object that contains all the values to be displayed in a JSP or presentation.
    Hope thats helpful!

  • HtML inside JSP Tag

    How much HTML can be inside a JSP Tag? I created a tag which set few variables. Now on the JSP page, if the variable A is not null, then only display value and show a link next to it.
    So is it OK, if I take the link html (href code) and concatenate with the vale of A
    Thanks in advance

      </tr>
    </ed:TableIterator>Loads :)
    This is a small sample, building the rows of a table with 3 columns (a checkbox, an inputfield and a textarea) for each row.
    I've built larger structures where I nest the same tags to create select controls in each row.
    I wouldn't actually create HTML inside the java class for the tag, as that violates the separation of code and presentation (that's not to say I haven't done it, but I've learned better since <GRIN> and now try to avoid it where possible and minimise it where not).

  • JSP tags into vm?

    Is there any ways to place JSP tags into Velocity templates? I've seen Velocity can be embed into JSP but i'm not sure if vice versa?

    Cameron,
              In general, what kind of "interesting bugs" and "design flaws" do you mean?
              I would expect that using any kind of cache can allow for bugs due to developers
              confusion... but are there inherent "bugs" (or design flaws) that are built into
              WL's Cache tag?

  • JSP, Tag Libraries, Tomcat 4.1

    Due to an internal decision to place all content within certain categories: for example, we would like all our JSP pages to be in one directory, our TLD files to be in one directory, our images to be in one directory, etc. I would like to be able to set up two Tomcat Contexts (sites). One for /jsp and one for /tld. Is it possible to load the tld and tag class handler in one context and the jsp in another context and call the tag handler even though they are in separate sites? The first reaction someone might have is to just place everything in separate directories under the same context. Well, we do not want to do this because we do not want to use relative URLs. Our testing systems are Window 2000 so it is not a big deal. But our production server is OPENVMS. We want to use aliases for everything. /jsp for JSP pages. /tld for tag libraries, etc. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

    Yes, this is a follow-up question to my initial question. However, I was trying to take a different approach after reading the inital comments and doing lots and lots of stupid little tests.
    I have tried all three methods of using the mappings that you have suggested. And in every case, I cannot get the JSP page to recognize the location of the TLD from the URI unless I use a context in Tomcat or a relative URL for the URI declaration in the JSP page. So I must be doing something wrong. I am going to post what information is not business sensitive and see if you can find an error.
    However, with that being said. We have a specific alias/directory structure we must maintain on the OPEN VMS system. In order to do so, so we can maintain a programmer and a "live" environment we must be able to use these aliases for all our file types. Don't get me wrong, we can use these alias' within the same context of Tomcat, but we must make sure that we can still access or JSP, TLD, and servlets using some sort of alias and NOT using relative URLs. All the dynamic stuff in Tomcat while trying to use Apache for the static content. On OPENVMS, there are things called logicals which can basically be set up as an alias. The logical can point to a specific value, a directory, a group of directories, or even a specific file name or command procedure or anything else you can logically use it for. We have to use these logicals in order to set up our site. These logicals are part of the system security of OPENVMS and this helps us determine which enviroment we need to use for which user.
    Hope this gives a bit more informed information.
    Currently, the tld and .class file are packaged into a webMenuTag.jar file in the "vsjsp" site.
    There are no references to the TLD or Tag Library in the web.xml file. So here is the tld file and also the snippet of the jsp file. The class file is called webMenuTagHandler.class.
    Thank you.

  • Help! writing japanese using jsp tag extension

    Hello Group !
    I'm having problems implementing a simple jsp tag extension.
    I've written a written a short code that is invoked in my tag (see below).
    The code goal is to write two japanese letters. However, all I get are two
    single-byte letters which my browser displays as '?'.
    What should I do to make Weblogic write japanese and not Latin ?
    Should I dynamically mess with the Locale ??
    Any help would be highly appriciated.
    Here's my piece of code:
    public class myBlock extends javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.BodyTagSupport {
    private void parseTagBody() throws IOException, JspException
    ServletResponse response = (ServletResponse) pageContext.getResponse();
    response.setContentType("text/html;charset=EUC_JP");
    pageContext.getOut().write(38498);
    pageContext.getOut().write(39745);
    pageContext.getOut().flush();
    Best,
    Tal Moshaiov
