Howto open weblink/url via html button in new browser window

Hallo Apex People!
I have built a form containing a html button linking to a webpage. Is it possible to open it in a new browser window?
Tnak you a lot
Johann

Johann,
Try this...
In the 'Optional URL Redirect' properties of the button, change:
Target is a: URL
URL Target: javascript:popupURL('[your webpage');
(Note: This uses one of the built-in javascript functions, that loads a new window without toolbars.)
Any good?

  • Opening of an ADF applcn in a new browser window from another ADF applcn.

    The requirement is in the form of a usecase below, can you please let us know how could we resolve this.
    Let us consider we have two ADF applications A and B. Once ADF application A is rendered, in one of the pages of Application A there is a link which takes us to Application B. We want to open the ADF application B in a new browser window.
    There is one more restriction here, the first time the link in Application A is clicked it should bring up the Appliciation B in a new window say W2 , later on if the person clicks multiple links from Application A it should refresh the exisiting open window W2 with the Application B. i.e we do not want multiple windows to come up for a single link.
    I do see the commandlink has a usewindow=true ,this is the functionality we want. basically the first time the link is clicked a new window should pop up, later on every click of the command link we want to refresh the same open window which had come up the first time the command link was clicked.

    I did try using the Golink with targetFrame with all the values "_blank", "_parent", "_self" , "_top". with targetFrame value set as _blank it brings up multiple windows.
    Let me be more clearer, I do have application A in browser window say W1 and when i click a link from Application A present in browser window W1 the Application B should open up in new browser Window W2. And further on simaltaneous clicks on the link in Application1 should only refresh the Window2 with Application B.
    i.e, at any given time i want only two windows to be present i.e, W1 and W2.

  • Command to open a PDF generated Oracle Report in New browser window

    I know this is probably something for the Oracle Forums but I'll ask anyway because I can't find any info out there on this, without some extra work.
    I am generating a PDF file from 10g Oracle reports on Linux RHEL 5 and storing the PDF file to the server. I can send that PDF file directly to a printer with the "lpr" command and that part works fine.
    What I'm wanting to do now is "View" the PDF from within the server in a new window. We are using RHEL 5 (Linux) platform and I'm trying to see if there is a way to open the file with a "command line" command that will open it in a new browser window or new window period (opening it with Adobe Acrobat).
    Does anyone have a command that will do this? Otherwise, how has everyone else been handling this. The idea of just viewing the previously generated PDF Report file will save us overhead on our database servers because they won't have to re-run some of the same reports over and over.
    Any help and assistance is appreciated.
    Chris

    Several options:
    - If you only want to show the pdf to the client without printing, use destype=cache and use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT after the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (for examples search the forms-forum, there are lots)
    -If you have to generate the pdf to a file to get it printed, you could
    +use WEBUTIL_FILETRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT after the printing to transfer the file to the client, then use CLIENT_HOST to view it.
    +map the appserver-directory you generate the report to as a virtual directory in the application-server then use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to directly access the generated file via url.

    I am trying to get the links embedded in a pdf to open in a new browser window. I applied the follow javascript to the link's action:

    This works in Firefox, a new browser window opens, but not in Internet Explorer. In IE, it still replaces the pdf with the page being linked to. Has anyone come up against this? Thanks.

  • Opening an URL via a button in a new browser window?

    Hello,
    I'm integrating now Oracle Reports in my HTML DB application.
    Everything work well. I have create a launching page with paremeter items and a button that call a branching of type "Branch to Function Returning a URL". This branching construct the Oracle Report URL with parameters as entered in the parameter page.
    The only thing missing is the possibility to open Report output in a different browser window. I don't know how to do it via the Branching specification. Normally, in HTML, I would use target="_new" .
    Thank you
    Jean

    you might want to try having your page submit as normal, doing your parameter manipulation in an after_submit pl/sql process, and popping up the report page from your next htmldb application page. let's say, for example, that you have an update form on page 4 that branches back to a report page 2 in your application. you'd like to use the P4_JOB value submitted from page 4 to pop up a google search for that job and the string "oracle". you could do it like this...
    --create an app-level (or page level) item called POP_ON_LOAD
    --have page 4 submit as normal and branch back to page 2
    --add a pl/sql process that fires when page 4 is submitted.  have that proc set the value of POP_ON_LOAD like so...
    begin
    :POP_ON_LOAD := 'OnLoad="popupURL(''http://www.google.com/search?q=oracle+&P4_JOB.'');"';
    end;
    --enter &POP_ON_LOAD. into the "Page HTML Body Attribute" attribute of the "On Load JavaScript..." region on the page-level attributes page for page 2.
    this way, when POP_ON_LOAD is populated, htmldb will make the onLoad call to popupURL passing in whatever url you set from your after_submit process on page 4. and just remember to clear your POP_ON_LOAD item when you don't want page 2 to pop up those extra windows.
    hope this helps,
    raj

  • Open new browser window without buttons, menus or URl-field

    Hi All
    How do you make an APEX-link open a new browser window with no toolbar?
    Brgds
    Helge

    You can create a javascript to window.open having toobar, menubar or statusbar=0. The page content can be customized per need. Call this javascript from a link or button click using javascript:popup_window();
    For example,
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function popup_window()
    w = window.open("", "Window", "width=320,height=400,status=0,toolbar=0,menubar=0");
    w.document.write('<html><head><title>Help Window</title>');
    w.document.write('</head><body>');
    w.document.write('<div><font face="Arial" size="2">This is help page.');
    w.document.write('</font></div><p>');
    w.document.write('<div><font face="Arial" size="1"><a href="javascript:window.close();">Close This Window</a></font></div><p>');
    w.document.write('</body></html>');

    I want to open a new browser window and display the html file in local drive. ...Did you ever pause to consider how ridiculous that is?
    The best audience for applets is people off the internet. 'People off the internet' might be using a computer that has no (what was it?) 'open.html' in the root of the C: drive. In fact (shock horror) they may not even be running Windows, and would therefore probably have no 'C:' drive at all.
    If you do not intend to distribute this to people off the web, an application makes a lot more sense, but even then, you cannot rely on the document being there unless you 'put it there' (during installation, for instance).
    As the other poster intimated, applets can load documents off the local disk as long as they are trusted. Here is an example*, but note that it is not so rash as to presume any particular path or file, and instead leaves it to the user to choose the document to display.
    * The short code can be seen at SDNShare on the [Defensive Loading of Trusted Applets|http://sdnshare.sun.com/view.jsp?id=2315] post.
    On the other hand, a sandboxed applet can load any document coming from its own server via URL, or get showDocument(URL) to work. In that case, the JRE must recognize that the URL is from its own server, so the best way to form URLs for applet use is via the URL constructor
    new URL(getDocumentBase(), "path/to/open.html");That is how I form the URL in this [ sandboxed example of formatting source|http://pscode.org/fmt/sbx.html?url=/jh%2FHelpSetter.java&col=2&fnt=2&tab=2&ln=0]. Of course, in this case the applet loads the document, then parses the text to draw the formatted version, but the point is that an URL produced this way will work with showDocument(URL).
    I am pretty sure showDocument() in an applet off the internet will work with an URL pointing to a foreign (not its own) server, but it will not be able to load documents off the end user's local disks.
    I suggest a couple of things.
    - Try to express this problem in terms of what feature it is that you want to offer the end user. Your question jumps directly to a bad strategy for achieving ..who knows what? An example of a feature is "Shows the applet 'help' files on pressing F1".
    - A good way to indicate interest in a solution is to offer [Duke stars|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Duke+Stars+Program+Overview] to match that interest.
    Edit 1:
    ..and please figure out how to use the CODE tags.

    Hi,
    Even if i create different regions , it is not possible for me to place them between items.
    But anyways, I created a separate button in the same region and it works fine.

  • Open URL Link in new browser window

    Can someone please help me? I've tried to use code as if I were using Dreamweaver without any luck(i.e. blank target).
    Is there a way to make the url in the PDF open a new browser windows once clicked? Hopefully this is an easy fix! Thanks in advance!

    Jono, if you are still out there.  I am also having trouble with this function.  The button works just fine, but it does not open another browser window.  I am trying to keep my pdf open, and send them to a url.  That way they can come back to the form. Like you would with the target="_blank" function in javascript.
    What am i doing wrong?  I have tried opening the script editor, but I am not sure what to do there. So I put the same as you did on your form, no effect.  I put target="_blank" and set it to javascript on just about every option.  I have tried to go into the code on the xml source tab, no luck anywhere.  I have tried to just use a text field, no luck.
    Seems like everything I have tried has no effect.
    Hopefully you can tell me it is something simple...
    Thanks in advance.

  • "Go to URL" not opening in a new browser window

    We are using FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9 in a Windows 7 environment.
    When we create hypertext links, we use the "Go to URL" command.  According to the FrameMaker 10 online help, this is what the command is supposed to do: "Launches browser and displays the specified Web page."
    Then we publish the content to RoboHelp's WebHelp.
    When we see the hypertext link in the WebHelp/HTML output, it looks like this: http://www.adobe.com
    When we click it, the Web page appears inside the content frame of the WebHelp.  It does not open a new browser window.
    We can manually go into the html file and look at the hypertext link.  It looks like this in the WebHelp output:
    <span class="FM_Link"><a href="http://www.adobe.com">www.adobe.com</span>
    In order to manually change the link so that it opens the Web page in a new browser window, we can edit the link as follows:
    <span class="FM_Link"><a href="http://www.adobe.com" target="_blank">www.adobe.com</span>
    After we manually edit the HTML file, save it, launch the WebHelp, and click the hypertext link...it now opens the Web page in a new browser window.
    Is there a way to create the hypertext link in FrameMaker so that the WebHelp output will open the Web page in a new browser window?
    Thank you in advance!
    Tim

    Please see the previous posts in this thread to review how you create hyperlinks in FrameMaker that open the Web page in a new browser window.
    The problem is this: If you publish the exact same file to PDF, the hyperlinks will not work.
    The properties (syntax) of the hyperlinks in PDF output need to look like this: http://www.adobe.com
    The hyperlink syntax in WebHelp (in FrameMaker) needs to look like this: http://www.adobe.com" target="_blank
    (...so when they are published to Webhelp, they look like this: "http://www.adobe.com" target="_blank")
    Other than going into either the HTML or the PDF output and manually changing each hyperlink URL syntax for the specific output, is there a syntax that opens a new browser window in both PDF and HTML with one single "Go to URL" command?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tim

  • Opening a URL in a new browser window

    Hello Experts,
    I am trying to open a dynamic url in a new browser window from a Portal application (travel and expenses). Basically, when a user clicks on the submit button, Badi IF_EX_TRIP_WEB_CHECK~USER_CHECK_CHANGES is called. In the BaDI, we have added code to concatenate a parameter to a url and then open a new browser window with that url. This works perfectly in r/3 using a tcode (pr_web_1200) but when I use the portal application under ESS, the window does not open and no error message is issued. We are using METHOD cl_gui_html_viewer->detach_url_in_browser. Any idea why this is not working through ESS in Portal? Is there some other method that we need to use? Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Open Portal Transaction iView in new window *without* Browser window
    for iView (page) you probably set the property 'Launch in New Window' to value Display in Separate Window. To tune up the other otions you have the possibility to set the property Window Features, value should contain toolbar=no. These features will be used when Javascript opens up your window - you can apply any option coomonly documented. IMHO for your demands the best option is fullscreen=yes,toolbar=no - you get really the maximum possible size.
