Hp 2910-al as router for charter internet

trying to use 2910-al directly connected to charter internet router...multiple vlans... vlans 1,2,3,4...vlan 4 is one port untagged connected to charter modem..vlan 3 is for wireles network.. vlan 2 is for wired network.. vlan 1 is unused.. all vlan can communicate with each other.. vlan 4 can communicate with charter modem...vlan 2 and vlan 3 cannot communicate with charter modem but can communicate with ip on vlan 4...default route for switch is charter modem ip..default gateway for all connected clients is procurve switch.. will not work..works fine with cisco(linksys) router in between the charter modem and hp switch..why would this not work without the cisco(linksys) router??? also tried putting charter modem on vlan 2 and giving it two ip addresses (one for vlan 2 wired clients and one on the same subnet as charter modem.. same result...

Hi JustenB84,
The current software for your Laserjet P1102w available for this printer is actually not supporting Mountain Lion. Officially, this Laserjet can only be installed in Mountain Lion via AirPrint.
For this you need to connect the Laserjet in ad-hoc mode to your Mac first. On the WiFi of your Mac look for the printers SSID. Hence you selected this SSID you can open the EWS (embedded web server) via the Bonjour Bookmark in Safari. This Bonjour Bookmark you can enable in the Preferences of Safari. Then open the Bonjour Bookmark and select the printer (it might be listed in a subfolder Printers or Websites). Within the EWS you can now go to Network - Wireless and make the settings for your network.
When the Laserjet is now connected to your Network, open the System Preferences Print & Scan. Click on the Plus icon to add a printer. Select the Laserjet. Next to Use you should now find AirPrint listed. Also see this document: Installing the Printer on a Mac Running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (Network Connections Only)
However, a software version for 10.7 is available on a HP.com that I also tested successfully in Mountain Lion. With this software you can also try the USB to Wireless setup via HTML Config:  HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver
(You might need to change the Security settings to "Allow applications downloaaded from: Anywhere". You can change this back after the installation was done.)

Look on the support pages for your WiFi router for a firmware update for the router.
It's hard to say much more without knowing the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • Best wireless modem/router for Comcast internet service?

    Hello!
I am looking to switch internet service from Verizon DSL to Comcast. I have a MacBook Pro using Airport Extreme (supports 802.11 a/b/g/n), and my other computer is an iMac (OS 10.5.8, iMac 6,1), with a printer and a Roku box (I'm also thinking about switching to Apple TV). All are currently set-up wirelessly with a combined modem/router.
I know that there is a list of a bunch of potentials on the Comcast website, but I'm looking for real experience from Mac users. Good, bad or neutral comments are appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Ken

Don't pay Comcast monthly for a router. Buy a router. A router is a router, the best routers are Cisco based rackmount devices. Honestly the AirPort Express and Extreme are amazing and work quite well with Apple products. Plus if you purchase one and get AppleCare on it you get AWESOME support from your friendly AppleCare advisors... sure as **** beats going to India and talking to Fred.

  • Can I use it as a router for Charter?

    Hello,
I'm about to switch to charter's new 30MBPS plan and I was wondering if I could connect this to my modem and use it as my only router? Or is that not possible?

I was wondering if I could connect this to my modem and use it as my only router?
If "it" is a Time Capsule, and" it" has been first been reset back to Factory Default settings, "it" should work well with the cable modem from Charter.
Make sure that you power off the modem completely by pulling the power cable from the back of the device or from the wall AC jack and leave it off for 30 minutes before you connect the Time Capsule.
Then power up the modem and let it run by itself for 5 minutes. Then, power up the Time Capsule the same way.
Once your computer is powered back on, you can configure the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility.

  • What is the latest current version of the Actiontec router for FiOS internet?

    Hello,
I will be moving in a couple of months and I'm wondering if I should turn in my current router and ask for a new one when I get the service installed at my new house, vs taking my current router with me.  I've had mine for over 2 years now. The main issue I have is that the signal is sort of weak. I will be moving to a much bigger place and I'm worried the wireless won't be strong enough to reach end to end or outside.
Can someone confirm the latest and greatest Actiontec model # of the router that they are installing, and I can check to see if it's something newer than what I have.
    Thanks

The Verizon routers do have a good amount of range on them. I'm using an ActionTec MI424-WR Rev. D running DD-WRT on my DSL connection, which replaced an older and slowly dying Linksys WRT54GXv1. The ActionTec seems to broadcast just as far as the Linksys does. Transfer wise when I go out that far, I don't know how nicely it works yet but I've seen no issues with it in my home. Other homes with the FiOS routers, it is generally due to the positioning of the router (Basements are terrible places, signals don't go down nicely) or due to being on a noisy channel. In some cases, an antenna replacement is all that is needed, and additionally, disabling the Auto-Scan function and setting a channel manually on the router work wonders as well.
The Rev. G should be able to get better range by design, since it is N compliant and supports MIMO. The Rev. F and older routers do have two antennas, one internal and one external SMA antenna, so they do support Diversity as a result which helps with range and speed.
I do agree with you however with the routers needing a better design. More RAM for future proofing, more antennas (Maybe 6 Internal, two external?) with Simultaneous dual-band Wireless N, Gigabit and better firmware design would be nice. Wouldo also be nice to see the return of Ethernet installs comes around, instead of it being for only the 150Mbps connections. It'd be less headaches in the long run and better service quality despite some additional install time and more cabling.

    Hi!
I have upgraded  my ISP to 100mbps download /10mbps upload  and turns out my Linksys WRT54GL-EU 1.1 cannot go faster than 35mbps...
Soo I need to upgrade, will this be ok for 100mbps download speed?

Yes. However,  if you have the budget, I recommend this. This is one of Linksys Smart Wifi Routers. This is one of the latest routers from Linksys.

  • SonicWall SourceNAT VPN setup as default route for all traffic!

Hi,OK hope someone can help with this mess.....Our customer has been taken over by a US company who have said all outgoing internet traffic must go via their data centre. They want us to create an IPSEC vpn from our SonicWALL TZ215 to them then route all traffic locally via this VPN.In principle this didn't sound too bad. Then there were some more options:Our local subnet 172.x.x.x has to be NAT'd to a single /32 address. 192.x.x.131They also require our destination network to be set as 0.0.0.0. as they wont specify the range at the datacenter.I have managed to get the VPN up but using the the NAT address as my local subnet and using the option on the SonicWALL "Use this VPN Tunnel as default route for all Internet traffic" on the remote network. Phase 1 and Phase 2 work ok. The problem i now have is i need to route all LAN traffic...

  • Connected to router but no internet

I'm having similar problems with my router not connecting to the internet. I went to set up a passowrd on the my WRT54G. I actually clicked SES and pretty sure i pressed reset security. Does this reset the router to factory default? Or the security settings to factory default?
I didn't save after realising that I had done wasn't going to change my password.
Now I can't access the internet. I have tried everything, resetting, restarting, waiting, banging my head aqgainst the wall.
I have another router, an E1000. This will not connect either. internet works fine when hardwired to the modem.
    I work on a MAcBook Pro 10X.
    Any advice would be great.
    Regards
    Himi

The SES doesn't reset the router to factory defaults. It configures the router's wireless security but it will only work automatically if you have a Linksys adapter with a utility (like your Mac's airport) that is compatible with SES as well. Are you using DSL or Cable? Please click on the link below that is appropriate for your internet connection type for instructions. Set-up the internet via wire first, then go wireless.

  • Is it possible to be connected with a 3G modem for internet access and a WiFi router for printer sharing at the same time?

For our only internet access we have a 3G wireless modem. I have since purchased a WiFi printer and router to connect all the comptuters to in the house. The PCs have no problem with using both the 3G connection and the WiFi signal at the same time to print, however, the MacBook Pro will not connect to the 3G network and the router, it will drop the internet access from the modem and attempt to connect via WiFi (which has no internet access). Is there a solution that is available to remedy this? I attempted to create an adhoc printer network, however, the macbooks again will not print off of this, only the PCs. And I'm getting a bit frustrated overall with this.

The 3G wireless modem is on one of the PC's correct?
Why don't you pass the Internet through the Ethernet port to the router via Cat5 cable, then have that transmit a Wifi signal that everything else can use, then connect the printer to the router for print sharing?
You would have to turn off the wifi on the comptuer with the 3G modem as it's physically connected to the router and can't connect to the other machines as they are all connected to the router for sharing.
The Mac has the ability to pass, Internet Sharing in the System Preferences.
Do you have software for the Mac to run the 3G modem?

  • My iPad has to be really really close to the router for it to have internet. How can I make it so I can go around the house with it?

My iPad has to be really really close to the router for it to have internet. How can I make it so I can go around the house with it? My iPad has been like this for a couple of months, and it has really irritated me. My friend came over and he had to download iTunes for something on the computer. He needed my iPad, he tried it and it wasn't really near the router.

I'd begin by reviewing the following:

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

  • Possible to simultaneously use time capsule for backup + another router for internet?

I will soon be moving into an apartment in which my landlord provides wireless internet through her own router.
I also have my own Time Capsule, which I'd like to continue to use to back up my Mac via Time Machine.
Is it possible to connect to both my Time Capsule (for backup only) and another router (for internet only) at the same time?
If not, can anyone suggest a good workaround?

    moskovit wrote:
I've done a little research, and it looks like I might be able to wirelessly daisy chain the two routers, using WDS (wireless distribution system), assuming my landlord's router supports it, but that this would drop the speed of the internet significantly: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2623802?start=0&tstart=0
It works extremely poorly and the landlord would need to agree to it.. plus it would require use of WEP security which is hackable by children with internet hack kits in about 2min flat. Don't go there. Apple have made their products incompatible with most other routers. So any suggestion of a workaround will involve spending some money on your part.
You could buy a airport express and plug that into the main router by ethernet.. again if allowed. Your TC can do wireless bridge to another apple product very well. Messy but could work. It is not that expensive to get a second hand AEBS and use that. You don't need the latest products but wireless range would be better in the AEBS than AE.
So I'm still wondering: Is there another workaround?  Is there a way to get my mac to connect to my time capsule (for backup) and another router (for internet) simultaneously, or is that just technologically impossible?  If it's impossible, is there another solution?
You cannot wirelessly connect to two different wireless devices at once on one client. You need to either have a second wireless client in the laptop.. for instance a USB stick which can be fairly tiny nowadays. It is just you need to find one with Mac drivers. Or the TC must have internet connectivity. You could get that by buying a wireless bridge, and using that in your room, with the TC plugged into it. Universal wireless bridge devices are fairly cheap, but can be a pain to setup. Look for products that work with the main router and use as fast a speed as possible. It can be a tricky setup as you need the wireless bridge working on one channel and the TC working on another. What I am suggesting is the WDS solution you found but using two different boxes to do it. And not using WDS at all, unless the main router is suitable, but rather universal bridge.
The hassle of all that suggests to me,, I would go for the wireless stick, so your Mac laptop has two wireless clients.

I have no idea if this works just to show you what I mean. Please do research it yourself.
An ethernet connection to the TC is far superior solution albeit would require you to plug and unplug it.

  • Router for small business Internet connection

One of our clients recently switched ISPs to Speakeasy who installed a Hatteras HN 407 bridge. We have had Internet connectivity problems using their SonicWall 3060 firewall, and we experienced similar problems when attempting to use a newer Sonicwall TZ180. We temporarily installed a Linksys W54GT router, which has been working perfectly; however, we would like to have a more robust router for their 25 user network - additional security options, performance, VPN, two WAN connections, etc. Can you recommend a small business router with 2 WAN connections? This customer has a business ethernet 3Mbps (up and down) Internet connection, uses an online medical scheduling program, normally has 10 - 20 uses using the Internet connection and will be installing a backup DSL line that we would like to use for load balancing.

Our recommendation for Dual WAN would be RV082 This would be the prefect VPN router for small  Business and if you are looking for more ports on  the Ethernet, then we would recommend the RV016
