HT1341 Printing over firewire causes mac osx crash
I have had my Epson R2400 connected over Firewire to my MBP (10.8.3) for many months with no problem. Now whenever I print a document the MBP crashes and reboots without a message. I have tried a repair disk permissions, clearing teh caches, resetting the printer, reinstalling the driver and plugging the FW cable direct to the MBP (was via the Thunderbolt display) and neither had any effect. The printer does work over USB but that uses a USB port I can't spare.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem?
Thanks,
Andrew
Are you using a FW 800> 400 adapter? Your printer is older and most likely only has FW 400 capability.

Hey mrs.kimball,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "command" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [[Firefox crashes]] Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_firefox-crashes-when-i-start-it this article] as well.
Hopefully this helps! -
How can I download a driver for a Brother printer DCP-J411ODW for Mac OSX 10.9.1? I go to the right place on the Brother website and instead of downloading a driver it says there is a problem. Also something I did download and stuff on the CD provided with the printer is for a PC not a MAc. Help please.
OK, connecting a Wi-Fi printer is a 2 step process.
Connect printer to your network
Have computer to "see" printer on the network.
Follow Apple's steps for connecting a Wi-Fi printer in Printing in OS X. Read the article in it's entirety before installing. -
Extension Conflict Causing Mac to crash
My Classic environment in Mac OSX Tiger keeps on crashing (no error messages) and causing bottleneck in OSX. I can only quit Classic by a FORCE QUIT as nothing else works.
I have been having this problem for a while know and have tried virtually everything to resolve it (repair disk permissions, re-install Classic, rebuild desktop, increase Classic Memory) and nothing works.
Any tips that might resolve this tough bug?
Thanks..

I recently installed a new and bigger Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro system and since doing so, I lost the ability to print wirelessly on my Canon MX860 printer. I am using Mountain Lion OSX 10-8-4.
I note Pahu discussion in another group on this same issue but it pertains to Snow Leopard. I don't know how much difference it makes but when I followed his instructions, I did not get my problems resolved. I am inserting here his discussion and in bold my comments where my results differed.
Pahu comments follow (min results in bold): Some of the new models of Canon inkjet let you set the network settings using the touch panel on the printer. I am not sure if your MX860 has this setting, called Easy Setup under Device Settings > Network. If it does then you can change the network settings and create a new print queue on the Mac.
If it doesn't have the ability to change the settings via the keypad then you will have to connect the printer via USB to your Mac, which will create a USB connected print queue. If you then open Print & Fax, select this USB MX860 print queue and then press Options & Supplies, you will see the Utility tab. I DID NOT HAVE THAT TAB I FOLLOWEED HIS LEAD USING THE FOILLOWING: MAC HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities With this selected then click Open Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility and within this utility you will see the Network Settings button. Select this and you can then enter the new network settings, such as the SSID, type of security being used and the password for the network. Save the changes, turn off the power to the MX860 and then disconnect the USB cable.
Now turn the printer back on and open Print & Fax again. For the USB print queue you just created, you can delete this. I NEVER SAW ANY PRINT QUEUES AFTER TURNING THE PRINTER BACK ON. ONLY THING I HAD WAS THE PRINTER LISTED IN THE WINDOW SHOWING IT WAS OFFLINE. And for the old networked print queue, you need to delete this also. You may also need to delete the networked scanner queue if you had one. So with all the old queues to the MX860 removed you can then add the new network printer. I DID TWO THINGS, FIRST LEAVING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW, I TRIED ADDING USING + BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN I TRIED DELETING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW AND THEN TRIED HITTINH + BUT NOTHING EVER APPEARED. HAD TO RECABLE THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK TO GET PRINTER BACK. Click the + and wait for the MX860 to appear as a printer - it will appear first as a scanner and you can either add that now or after adding the printer. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED AND I LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. Several seconds after the scanner appears the printer should also appear, showing canonijnetwork in the Kind column. DID NOT HAPPEN. Select this and the Print Using menu should automatically select the Canon MX860 series printer driver. When it does click Add to complete the network print queue creation and repeat the steps to add the network scanner if you need it. OBVIOUSLY, NONE OF THIS HAPPENED EITHER.
NOW IT IS ME AGAIN. Can someone please help me with this mess? I am so frustrated with dealing with this for three days and the only way I can print is using the RSB cable which is not so cool strung across my bedfrom the computer to the printer. Any guidance would be appreciated. I am an old man of 73 and way over my head with this mess. Don't know why Canon has to make this so difficult. Thanks in advance, Ron WikoffI too am experiencing the same problem, my Canon MX860 printer is no longer connecting to my Airport Extreme Router. I tried following the directions on Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/wireless/router_network_change_mx34 0_mp495_mx860_mp980_mp620_mac.pdf
I have tried uninstalling all of the printer drivers, as suggested in another apple discussion, then running the Canon IJ network tool.
I tried PAHU's response above:
Okay. No facility to add the MX860 to an Apple wireless network using the control panel so you will need to use the Canon IJ Network Tool.
So with the Mac connected to the MX860 via USB cable, open Canon IJ Network Tool (which should be located in Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Tool). If you are looking in the other path you mention above, this could be an older version so download and install this latest version of the IJ Network Tool.
With the IJ Network Tool open, the first window talks about adding the printer to the network. Ensure the setting "Use the printer on the network" is set. Click OK
From the next window, the MX860 should be shown and as connected to the Mac via USB. Select it and click OK.
The next window will show the utility searching for wireless access points. A new window will then appear asking you to confirm the connection to the access point and the text will show which access point was found - which should show "Ronald Wikoff's Network". Click Yes to continue. When a window appears stating that the Canon IJ Network Tool wants to use your password, click Allow. (I cannot make it past this step. The Canon IJ Network Tool does not aoutmatically find my password. Instead I am taken to a screen where I type in my password and then attempt to connect.)
Now the window will take several seconds to setup the printer and should show a Setup Completion window. Click OK. (I never make it to this window. I receive an error message that that says the printer cannot communicate with the access point and to check the password. I checked the password then tried again. I even changed the password in the airport utility to make sure I had the correct password and it still did not work. I am starting to suspect that this may be related a recent Airport utility upgrade to 6.3.1 a few days ago.)
This will make the Add printer window appear. In the list, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be visible. If it is, select it. The "Use" menu should then show "Canon MX860 series". If it does, click Add. This will add the network printer to the Mac.
If you now open Print & Scan, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be in the printers list, as well as the Canon MX860 series. This latter one is for the USB connection. You could delete this printer and disconnect the USB cable.
The last step is to print a document to this network printer.
I plan on calling Canon tomorrow but if you have any other options for my to before then I am open to suggestions. -
After Effects CS5 causing Mac to crash during render
I am currently experiencing problems with my Mac Pro crashing while I am trying to output a final render. Here are the current specs for my compositions and computer:
Composition:
-5,760 pixels wide x 2,160 pixels high (The video is going to be used for a Video Wall)
-29.97 fps
-44 seconds long
-3D composition with layers moving in 3D space
Computer:
-MacPro 2.93 Ghz 12-core
-64 GB RAM
-NVIDIA Quadro 4000
-OSX 10.7.2 Lion
Multiprocessing Settings:
-RAM reserved for other applications 32 GB
-RAM available for AE 32 GB
-CPUs reserved for other applications 12
-RAM allocation per background 2 GB
-Installed CPUs 24
-Actual CPUs that will be used 12
I've tried prerendering layers. I've even tried swapping video cards but it still crashes about every other time. If you have any insight or need additional info, please respond. Thanks.

Cord unplugged from headphone jack causes Mac OSX to fail and shutdown.
I have a sound system running through my iMac. When I unplug the sound system, my iMac desktop turns gray & a message tells me that Mac OSX has quit. This has happened multiple times & I would like to know why.
Obviously, this should not happen. Mac OS X does make a software setting change when it senses the headphones mini-jack being removed. The System Preferences Sound pane Output tab setting gets changed to +built-in speakers+ and the speaker output volume is set to the previously set value for the +built-in speakers+ (which is stored separately from the headphones volume). It is not just a hardware speaker on/off switch like in most PCs.
So with that in mind, my first suggestion is to reset the PRAM.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Some sound parameters are stored in PRAM. -
Safari appears to cause Mac to crash
Since upgrading from Leopard to S.L. my Mac occasionally crashes while browsing in Safari. It crashes only once or twice a day — so annoying rather than disastrous. I'm curious whether someone can see any clue in the Panic Report below. I haven't yet tried trashing Safari's preference file as other things in the Panic Report look suspicious, e.g.
loaded kexts:
com.intego.driver.IntegoSocketFilterManager 1.0
com.pctools.iantivirus.kfs 1.0.1
...Apparently I haven't been entirely successful in uninstalling Intego's NetBarrier and PCtools' iAntiVirus — where can I find those two elements mentioned above to remove them? (Neither Spotlight nor the _Find File_ app finds them.)
Thanks,

Can not seem to print from 64 bit mac osx photoshop cs4 in landscape
we have like 5 mac computers in the building and about 20 pcs.
all the pcs and all the 32 bit macs work fine.
the 2 64 bit macs will not print in landscape only from photoshop cs4
i can print from indesign in landscape and illustrator in landscape.
somewhere i read that i could remove the preferences file and that would maybe fix it.
that did nothing.
i have tried a variety of different files and sizes.
my design artists are specialized in photoshop and it was working up to about 2 weeks ago.
nothing has changed in this time.
so i am wondering what could cause this.
please help. What is a 64 bit Mac? It might be easier to describe the kitty version of these Macs and if all have been fully patched in system software and in programs.

App Store on Mac osx crash when attempting to update
I am using a Mac mini 2011 late.
OSX Mountain lion latest penultimate version, just prior to the release of the AFP upgrade.
Problem is:
The App Store crashes!
When I attempt to run the App Store it loads but as soon as I hit the Update icon, the app crashes.
Attempts:
Reboot - failed
Reboot the OSX not allowing any startup programs (holding SHIFT on login) - failed
Removing all the .plist files from the startup demons and the launch directory - failed
I repaired disk permissions - failed
Logged In as a different user - failed
Any suggestion???Here is part of the error dump:

I want to print to my Mac from over the internet. Is there a way to do this with ssh? Do I need to set up a vpn? I am not sure where to start and any help is appreciated.
You could start by describing how your Mac is connected to the Internet. Assuming you're using a routing device, you'd want to forward port 631. You can do this inside an ssh tunnel, or not. I guess it depends on how worried you are that other people might print on your printer. You also need to set up the print client appropriately. This can be a little tricky. You might want to describe that too.
Bottom line is, you don't need ssh or a vpn, except for security reasons, and I'm not sure why anyone would want access to your printer. -
Brother DCP 130C Printer not connecting tO mac OSX 10.6.8
Following the upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard my Brother DCP 130 C Printer not working have tried downloading upgrade without success
I have to raise a different view point. Many users of macs are ordinary, non-techie people, who simply want a machine to do basic things. I know people with very old macs, and they are happily using them for simple purposes. I have 10.6.8, and any upgrade would cost me some money to upgrade parallels. Macs can run for years, and I believe that it is important for equipment to be able to be used for long periods of time, if the user wishes. Also, earlier OS are very commonly unsed in coutries where money and internet is not as available as to many of us.
I also use a mac with XP as I need a small install base for only one PC based software that I occasionally use.
As a developer, I would expect them to look at the actual installed back of OS, and realise that some simple functionality should be backward to existing users. The ability for a phone to connect to earlier OS is something which I did not even think about - I thought it would be automatic. Its also not that difficult to develop.
The forums are awash with frustrated new pruchasers of Lumia phones, suddenly realising that their expected functionality with PC Suite, etc has now gone. Many of those people are very frustrated, and they will pass on their frustrations to others, and sales will be affected.
I have been a Nokia user now for about six years, and I have watched the same frustrations of users, requesting Nolia to develop expected connection, integration, and sync software that other phone manufacturers seem to be able to do. Finally, a reasonable PC Suite version is now developed, but not compatible with Lumia?? Do we have to go through the whole waiting thing again? Why cannot Nokia look at this not as a software problem, but an expected functionality feature. -
I am unable to see my apple mac computer listed on the printer's screen. When I select scan and then computer, it simply informs me to enable scan to computer via the printer software, does anyone know where this setting is?
OS X 10.7.3 (Lion)
HP Photosmart 5510
Connected wirelessly with the latest drivers (as of today)
HP Utility 5.2.0Hello,
Thanks for the post. With this one, we actually have several options for scanning. I've included the links below for scanning with both the HP software and for scanning without. On the computer desktop screen do you see printer icon which says HP AIO 110e? If YES, double click it. Then double click "Scanner Actions" and then you can see the option "Activate Scan to computer".
Note: In order to use scan button on the printer, this feature should always be activated. Once activated, if you restart the printer or computer, this needs to be re-activated again.
Good Luck!

Premiere Pro/After Effects CC on Mac OSX crashes when moving media
I have Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in both programs whenever I attempt to move any media (any format) to the timeline from the media browser window Premiere (and After Effects) crashes immediately.
I'm using a MacBook Pro w/ retina, running latest OS, and I have the Microsoft Office suite of apps installed.
Customer service had a go fixing it but to no avail, apparently it has something to do with fonts if that helps anyone, i've reverted all the fonts on my Mac back to the default but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!Hi Matt,
Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
Update any GPU drivers
Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
Delete media cache
Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
Disable App Nap
Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
Thanks,
Kevin
