HT1386 unable to sync computer itunes music library to ipod

Have older model ipod touch without camera which has 153 songs on it .I recently added a new album from a cd, not purchased from itunes, but it now is only on the itunes library & won't transfer over to the ipod. What do I need to do ?

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

That is precisely what my mid-2010 MacBoook Pro 13 was doing before the drive finally died after an Apple Genius rebooted it a dozen or so times. I have since read about the exact same thing happening to others, including a writer for The Atlantic magazine who had never had an issue with a Mac before. Do a back-up ASAP to make sure you don't lose anything and see about replacing the HDD. It is only about $140 for a new drive. The real issue is if you lose your data, too. So, make sure you do that back-up!

  • I can't get my iPad to sync my iTunes music library

My iPad will not sync with my itunes music library.  Proper boxes checked but it only downloads 120 of 1200 songs and I get the message that songs "can not be found."  Anyone know how to resolve this?

    Hi,
Try disabling anti virus software and turning off the Firewall on your PC, restart the iPad and try syncing.

  • Can i sync my itunes music library to more than one computer? my computer crashed and now has a different id.

My computer crashed - the orginal one that I synced my phone to and my iTunes music. Now I have a new computer and want to sync my music but it won't let me - I get an error message stating that I am only allowed to sync my phone to one computer. How do I get around this?

You can move the song files into a different iTunes library and sync them to a new device, but they will remain associated with the original Apple ID.

  • Cannot sync entire iTunes music library to iPhone 6?

Just returned from one on one training at the Apple Store, and the helper could not figure out a solution to my problem. I have 2432 songs in my iTunes  library, but only 1782 of them will sync onto the phone.  iTunes Match is turned off.  The phone is 64GB so there is plenty of storage space. (38.2 GB available)  We are syncing through a USB connection.  We tried deleting all the music followed by a fresh sync.  700+ songs won't transfer .. I haven't yet determined which ones.  The helper said the genius will probably suggest reinstalling the OS.  Anybody else have this problem? Phone is running IOS 8.0.2  MBA is running 10.9.5. iTunes is 11.4

    Here's how I synced iPo=hone 6 (updated to OSX 8.3) with iTunes (Version 1.1.2.27)
    1.     Turned on iTunes match on the computer (iMac) where my music library was located.
    2.     Turned on iTunes match on iPhone 6 (Settings>Music>iTunes Match).
    3.     Hard boot iPhone.
    4.     Restarted iPhone.
    5.     Disconnected iPhone to computer.
    6.     Closed iTunes on computer.
    7.     Restarted computer.
    8.     Connected iPhone to computer then restarted iPhone.
    9.     Restarted iTunes.
    10.   Clicked on iPhone icon in iTunes.
    11.   In iPhone SUMMARY menu, selected BACKUP option button THIS COMPUTER.
    12.   Selected BACK UP NOW.
    13.   Following backup, in OPTIONS section, checked box SYNC ONLY CHECKED SONGS AND VIDEOS.
    14.   Clicked APPLY.
    15.   Clicked SYNC.
The key is making sure you turn on ITUNES MATCH, then matching up your music library.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes music library on iPod

I don't really need to have my music on two places: iTunes Library and iPod. iPod should be enough. But a lot of services and views are available in Library. So what if I put my entire Library to my iPod? It works! But in that case the music consumes twice more place, because it's held in two places. I tried to use hard links (HFS formatted iPod), it seems to be working, but really hard to find the files.
Do you know some solution for this problem? Or some method to make much more simply the hardlinking? (In fact when iTunes copies the music to iPod, it should be an ln instead of cp.)

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for an iPod shuffle, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the shuffle). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads. Alternatively back them up to CD or DVD: How to back up your media in iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Don't delete anything until you have changed the update option. If by any chance you do however you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected the settings can be changed: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • How do I restore iTunes music library from ipod(s) and gift card $s?

    Two Questions:
    1) Had to have my hard drive rebuilt due to a major virus issue with my computer. Had to remove all software. Now when I download my new version of iTunes and try to sync my iPod its looking for the previous software iTunes account and wants to either erase or transfer purchases from my iPOD. I do not want to lose my music library on my iPod. What do I do?
    2) How do I get my gift card $s back that I had in my previous iTunes account? I do not have the original cards anymore...

    1) Have you failed to maintain a backup? You should always maintain a backup.
    2) Sign onto your itunes account. The info is still in your account.

I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library.  However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I made the mistake of resetting my iPod to factory defaults. Now it will only partially sync to my music library. I continually get an error message saying that certain songs are not authorized for my computer. Any ideas?

I made the mistake of resetting my iPod to factory defaults. Now it will only partially sync to my music library. I continually get an error message saying that certain songs are not authorized for my computer, although they are in the iTunes library on the computer and will play. It's these songs that won't transfer to the iPod. I have deauthorized and re-authorized the computer but no joy. Any ideas?

    Hello there DesertRat71,
I was thinking that some of the songs in your library may have been purchased under a different apple id. You have already done the first thing I would have done by de authorizing and re authorizing. To verify this, highlight one of the songs that will not sync over and use File>Get Info. Here is the help menu link for it if you need it help://bookmark='https://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.0/help/index.html?localePa th=English.lproj#itns2937'
In the Summary section there will be an Apple ID entry. If it shows something different than what you are currently using then I recommend signing into the Apple ID it shows and authorizing the computer for that one as well.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • I recently bought a new computer, and downloaded new music.. I want to sync my new music into my  ipod but it wont le me.. if i sync it will erase all my music and if i press okay it says it cant because my ipod is connected to another itunes..

i recently bought a new computer and installed itunes and downloaded music already... I want to sync my new music into my ipod but it wont let me it says my ipod is linked to another itunes library, so If i want to go ahead with the process it says it will erase all my movies, photos, apps ect.. I press okay then it says about another itunes library If i want to sync my ipod i have to "erase and sync" if i go ahead with this will it erase all my photos?? All im worried about are my pictures.... if i do this will it erase my pictures... so far i havent been able to put the recently added music to my ipod... i tried it my husbands iphone and synced it since he has no music or videos... and it had the autofill option so i did this... and it worked.. why will it not work on my ipod..

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:

  • How do I transfer my itunes music library to my new computer

How do I transfer my itunes music library to my new computer (not a mac owner)?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
