HT1751 Help!!!!!!!!! Trying to back up my itunes library to a external hard drive. Drag and drop right?? Where in good God's name do I fing the EHD icon to drop to? Desktop? Nowhere to be found. Finder? All I get is the "null" OMG please help.

About to explode from frustration. Oh please can somebody tell me where to drag the itunes folder to in order to copy it to my external hard drive? Thanks in advance.
It's almost certainly an issue with your external hard drive, not with iTunes. iTunes does not lock its folders nor files in any way under normal circumstances. Either you have a permissions problem with the external drive - probable since you had a problem before - or something locked the iTunes folder which, if it works correctly to add, play, and sync content, is unlikely.
If you continue to have problems, try copying some other folder to the external drive and see what happens. If that fails, then the problem is indeed with the external drive. You may get help for that if you ask in the Mac OS X forum.

if i back up my itunes library to an external hard drive and then add subsequent music and want to back up the newly added music a few days later, can i do it without backing up the entire library again? or do i need to back up the entire library each and every time i back up to the external hard drive?Just copy Users/yourusername/Music/iTunes (containing your library-files) to your external drive as well as that (extaernal) folder that contains all your audio-tracks.

I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive. The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive. I no longer have access to the old computer. Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?
That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.

If you want everything (meaning non-itunes songs, app data, photos, etc) you need to buy a 3rd-party ipod manager that support iTouch. Here is an iLounge article to start your research:

My external hard drive crashed and that is where I had all of my music/media files. I do have some content on another external drive, but not all (and not my movies, etc).
How can I copy everything, from my ipod classic, back to my itunes on my PC with Windows XP?The media is laid out on the iPod in a completely different stucture to that used by iTunes. However, if all your files on the iPod have tags (i.e. are not wav files) then you can try the following:
Create a new empty library by holding down shift and clicking the icon to launch iTunes, then select Create. Choose a location with enough room for your media, ideally on the same drive letter your missing media folder used to be on.
Copy the contents of \iPod_Control\Music into the Automatically add to iTunes folder of the new library.
Move the resulting iTunes Media folder into the location that your current library expects to find it. (If you can't do this for some reason move on to the next step, then use my FindTracks script to reconnect your media)
Hold down shift and click the icon to launch iTunes, then select Choose and select your original library.

Can Time Machine back up my iTunes Library stored on external hard-drive?
Is it possible to set Time Machine to back up my iTunes music/movie library that is located on another external hard drive (in addition to backing up the other files on my iMac computer)?
If the drive is connected and not in the excluded list it should backup automagically

Thanks - PattiYou should be able to log into your account via the Store > Sign In menu option - if the drop-down menus aren't showing the control-B should them to show.
Your balance should be accessible wherever you are signed into the account. My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option (that option will only show after you've signed in). -

Pattyupdate to the question above -- I went into Time Machine and restored my iTunes library, so it is showing what music I have again in there. FYI in advanced settings, I kept the setting that the music is stored in the Seagate HD.
BUT when I click on any music, it still cannot locate the file (all the music media files are still stored on the Seagate ext. HD)
So -- how can I get the iTunes library to re-connect with what is in the Seagate HD?

Please help. I have transferred my iTunes library from one external hard drive to another plus added additional music now I have duplicates of the same music in many albums. How do I delete the duplicates without going through them one by one which would take forever? I understand how to get the "show exact duplicate" feature up on iTunes but, because they were added to the library on the exact day I can't seperate them I'm that manner. So each duplicate is right next to eachother in the exact duplicate screen.

Hello can anyone help? I have sucessfully backed up my iTuines library to an external hard drive, but when backing up in the furture (Monthly) do I have to follow the same procedure again, and will this place an additonal copy of my iTunes library on my hard drive, so duplicating the back up and so rapidly fill my hard drive.
Ideally what I would like, is for the lateset back up to over write the original so saving space on my external hard drive. Many thanks ......SteveThe "consolidate" command has nothing to do with making backups. You use that command when you have had content in multiple places and you wish to have it now all in a single iTunes folder. If all of your content is already in the iTunes folder, then the "consolidate" command will be of no use to you. You will make further backups using whatever method you normally would use to make backups of your data in Windows.

I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive right before my old mac laptop died and then tried to transfer it to my new iMac. Now when I try to play my old music it skips like a scratched cd. Also, now I can't add any music to my iPhone unless it was purchased recently through itunes and downloaded through icloud. I tried to "Organize" my library in hopes of correcting the problem but my iMac just ejects my external harddrive part way through. Please help!

Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere. Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.
