my iphone kept saying it needed to restore, so I went to restore it in Itunes, and I got an error number -1 which isn't listed with the other numbers. what does that one mean?

Error -1 generally means a catastrophic hardware failure. You'll need to bring your phone into Apple or the authorized service provider in your country.

I called Apple Support and they walked me through it. They told me to basically copy and paste my music to the external hard drive. (I think.) Or maybe it was they had me transfer a folder to the EHD. I don't exactally remember it was a few years back. But I tried to plug in the EHD before starting and...nothing. Still says same thing, "locate file."

All I can tell you is that is a write permissions error. How is this drive formatted? Check the file's permissions. You can try:
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt enter:
sudo rm -rf
Leave a space after "-rf" and drag the file into the Terminal window. Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

Keep getting message "ipad cannot be synced, unknown error (1150)...what does that mean?

Whenever I try to sync my iPad I keep getting message "iPad cannot be synced, unknown error" with code (1150). What does that mean?

This happened to me after I upgraded to iOS6.
Tried everything I could find in a common thread here on the site, but what finally worked was...well, the last thing I did before it allowed a sync, I guess I can't say for sure that this is the problem, but...somehow, in the sync settings for the iPad, the "Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos" box had become unchecked. Clearly, there isn't enough room on the iPad for everything on the laptop, so I think this may have been choking it.
Worked fine at that point.
And, for what it's worth, I looked at the Music tab for my iPad in iTunes, and THERE it said only to use selected artists and playlists, but on the main SUMMARY page, the box was unchecked.
Oh, and I updated all the apps on the iPad (73 updates??) before trying the sync, so that might be a factor too.

Data error in dataset 0. what's that?

I did something stupid the other day, managed to connect an external disk that was part of zpool A such that it appeared in zpool B. I realised as soon as I had done zpool status that zpool B should not have been online, but it was. I immediately switched off the machine, booted without that disk connected and destroyed zpool B. I managed to get zpool A back and all of my data appears to be there, but I have a data error which I am unable to track. Apparently it is:
DATASET 0, OBJECT a, RANGE lvl=0 blkid=0
I have found this line from output of zdb:
Dataset mos [META], ID 0, cr_txg 4, last_txg 1759562, 406M, 362 objects
Is anyone able to shed any light on where this error might be and what I might be able to do about it? I do not have a backup of this data so restoring is not an option.
Any advice appreciated.

Just upgraded to latest iTunes for Windows. Rebooted the PC as required. When I bring up iTunes I get a pop message saying "An unknown error occured (-42110)". What does that mean?

Removing the SC Info folder as per the "Error 3001," "-42110," or "5103" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document seems to help most folks reporting the iTunes launch 42110s:
