Why can't spotlight search be deleted or cleared? Why so secretive? The problem is that this is a huge business security risk.
Fix it Apple!!!

Fix it Apple!!!
1) If you have sensitive business information on your phone, put a passcode on it.
2) Apple doesn't participate here. If you want to give them feedback, here's the link:

Best of luck.

  • Why does apple not remove the malware Genieo

Why does apple not remove the malware Genieo - it takes over the Safari browser even with extensions turned off - firefox works fine but the malware is still alive and kicking on my mac.  Should I just uninstall safari and hope the malware is not doing more damage in the background?

    Hi Sickof --
Apple has never had anything to do with Genio.  It is sneakily installed with other apps you think would be helpful. It is very sickening, IMHO.
Here's a thread here -- It's long, I know, but it's got great information for you.

  • Why does apple not allow 3D

A statement from the Smithsonian: "....iPad. Although these devices technically fully support 3D graphics in the web browser, due to a restriction of Apple it is not currently possible to use the Smithsonian X 3D explorer on iOS devices." Why does Apple not allow Smithsonian X 3D to run on MAC iOS devices? It runs on other OS such as Android etc.

    John,
If you know so little about the topic why even respond? Just to take sides? How do you even know your on the right side? Because you bought an iDevice and must obey your master?
Firstly 63% of video on the web is not HTML5. There is no such thing as HTML5 video.
HTML has a new tag called <video></video>. This tag allows the playback of videos converted to a specific codec. In safari it is h.264, in chrome it is VP8, in firefox it is OGG.
Each browser can only handle their codec, so a video that runs in the enw <video> tag in safari will not run in chrome or firefox unless another video is also present that has been converted to the correct format.
Adobe Flash can play all of them, or any one of them in any browser. Or you can just use .flv and have only one video that plays everywhere.
As such Adobe Flash plays back h.264 video, and has been doing so way before anyone heard of HTML5. Most hardware today has built in support for this codec as well, making it the best performig codec to be used for video.
With or without HTML5, h.264 is and has been becoming the "standard" codec for all video.
So to say 63% of video is HTML5 is a half truth. If you only cinsider safari then yes, 63% of the videos that flash plays can also be played in safari. However that same 63% can not be seen by anyone else as they require a different codec.
This says that h.264 is the dominant codec, because 63% of all video uses it. However you still need to support the other 37% of video which is not h.264, and you still need to support the other 63% of video for those who dont use safari.
The best option to bring all this together is Flash. It's the one stop shop for all video across all screens.
And Flash out performs HTML5 players 10 to 1 on every product on the planet except Apples.... where it somehow becomes a huge resource hog.... but then that may have something to do with Apple not wanting any media consumption to come from anywhere than their pocket.

  • Why does Apple not support GiffGaff?

GiffGaff allow you to tether and use your standard data allowance, but Apple don't even recognize GiffGaff as a network - so you can't enable any kind of tethering. The only workaround appears to be to jailbreak your phone. Why does Apple not support this network?

    Nobody here would know that.

Why does apple not stop these app that steal money from small children

In the final analysis it is down to parents to use the parental control features.
In addition to that, parents should regularly check the nature of all downloaded apps available to their children.
Yours are the chidren ... and yours, the responsibility.

The iTunes Store does allow purchases via PayPal, but only in the US. If you're in another country, PayPal is not available as a payment method.

  • HT3209 Why does apple not allow me to download an hd movie to my pc? Why doesnt apple get it that I simply want to download a hd movie to my computer so that I can repeatedly watch the hd movie via apple tv to my pc as opposed to using isp bandwidth?

    See title.

This does not answer you question as to "why does apple", because for some reason Apple will treat us like children and try to do everything for you. An unrelated example would be trying to change the IP address of an Airport Extreme Base Station. You cannot. It will always grab the first IP in your subnet whether you like it or not. OK I digress. What I can say is that iTunes, in it's infinite wisdom, will look at your display and decide whether it will playback a HD movie (minimum 1280x800). If not, based upon display settings, it will refuse you the HD download. The "why" I cannot answer other than if you buy the HD movie on any other device like your iPhone 4 or iPad, you cannot share it from your library. So, maybe they get to sell more copies of the movie? That's my best guess. I've been an Apple guy since I first bought my Apple IIe. But honestly, I fume at them for being entirely non-responsive to their customers. Another example is the loss of the scroll arrows starting in OS Lion. Despite thousands and maybe millions of customer complaints, they refuse to listen. (Wow, I feel so much better...)

  • Why does Apple not allow users to choose an iOS?

Why are they forced to use an iOS that does not work well with their phone/devices?  I have a 32gb 3GS, and it's still running 3.1.3.  I never upgraded because I never read anything good about them.  Now, there are some apps I'd like to use, but I am required to have 4.x to run them, so I can't download them.  I know there's a version of 4.x that is "better" than the others, so I'd consider that one (if I could find where I read it, again, to "pick it"), but, through Apple's infinite (lack of) wisdom, if I upgrade, I'm pigeon-holed into 5.0.1, which apparently is nothing but bad news for a 3GS-er.
So basically, can anyone give a reasonable, logical explanation as to why Apple seems to think that everyone should have the latest (and not greatest) version of the iOS?

Because given the nature of iOS, security, and 3rd party developers, it would be a nightmare to try to provide support for the multiple versions of iOS that could be running at any given time. Also, if an upgrade included security fixes (which many have) and Apple allowed people to go backwards by providing the software on their site they open themselves up to liability for any breach that might ensue on the users iPhone.
As you have determined you do not have to upgrade, although you tend to get nagged about it. And developers will move on and use new APIs in newer versions of the OS that will render you unable to use them. This happens on computers too. But given the closed nature of iOS this is Apple's best option. And if you think iOS is closed you should look at Windows Mobile 7.

  • Why does Apple not support the rSAP - Remote SIM Access Profile - for connection to car handsfree via Bluetooth

    Hello community,
I just ordered a new car and it comes with a bluetooth based handsfree installation based on rSAP (remote SIM access profile). I learned that rSAP is the ideal thing to eliminate the unwanted radiofrequency radiation (RFR) inside the car. Now while googleing I also learned that iPhone on iOS does not support rSAP.
I would like to point to the following page which shows some more detailed information on the rSAP topic:
    http://paulroberts69.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/android-2-2-and-rsap-compatibility /
I find rSAP a very usefuly thing, if it really brings the GSM radiation level down inside the car and allows the full use of all GSM functions by the rSAP premium handsfree kit built into the car. I absolutely do not understand why it is not already available with iOS.
From several web sources I understand that rSAP is available for jailbroken iPhones. That means, the chips inside the iPhone would support a rSAP service. Therefore my question: will it become available with iOS 6?
Or do all the folks at Apple drive old cars/brands and don't even think of the rSAP feature? Can we somehow start to get a hearing by the Apple developers? According to my knowledge, rSAP is implemented with all premium handsfree factory units of the VW brands - Audi, VW, Skoda ... This should make a relevant user base!
Any others with same wish and/or experiences? Comment here please!
    Regards,
    Olaf

    Hi Meg,
    could be several things:
    1. they forgot?
    2. none of their team members drives any VW branded car?
    3. nobody cares about the radiation inside the car?
    4. all have plugin holders for the iPhone?
I am just surprised that rSAP is offered by a premium car maker, but Apple seems ignorant about its support.
I am mostly concerned about the radiation when I use regular hands free. But I do understand that rSAP also has some limitations (only access to SIM contacts and other things, Wikipedia DE has a good full report, Wikipedia EN is much shorter).
    Regards,
    Olaf

  • Why does Apple not carry certain books? (i.e. George Bush's new book)

I read George Bush's new book called Decision Points came out today and I was going to buy it on my iPad but the iBookstore didnt have it. I had looked a week ago to see if they had it for pre-order which they did not.
Does apple just not carry all new releases? Does it take a couple days? Or is it some bush hater at apple decided not to put his book up?
Now please leave all your personal feelings about bush aside when replying. I personally think haters and lovers should all read this one.
But it is irritating that the book isnt on the bookstore! Anyone know why?

It's not Apple's decision. and has nothing to do with political views. The publishers have to be willing to provide their books to Apple for inclusion in the iBookstore. To date, Random House, which is publishing former President Bush's book, has refused to license any of their titles to Apple.
If you feel the need to complain to someone, complain to Random House. Meanwhile, Decision Points is available as an electronic book from either Amazon or Barnes and Nobel, both of whom have software for iOS.
    Regards.
