How to recover lost photos on iPad?

FYI, the "photos" in albums are really copies of your photos, they are merely links to the actual photos in your camera roll (much like songs in a music playlist in iTunes don't contain actual songs, but just links to the songs in your song list). Thus, when you delete photos from the camera roll, they no longer appear in your albums as the links have nothing to point to.
To back up your photos, be sure to import them to your computer from the camera roll as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

Can't delete SOME photos from my iPad Photo Album

Hello there,
I need a bit of help. I'm using an iPad 2 OS 6.0.1.
There's a few photos that I'm not able to delete from my Photos folder.
I click on the Photos App
Then click on Edit
I then get the option to put check marks on the photos. At that point I can click on the Delete button and delete SOME of them, but not all.
It's strage because some of the ones I can't delete, just seem to be duplicates of some of the ones I CAN delete.
In the past, I was syncing my iPad to my computer. Since moving to the iCloud, I've stopped plugging my iPad into any computer. I've read some message boards that say that this is because those photos were added by syncing to the laptop and that in order to remove them, you have to re-sync to the laptop.
One BIG issue is, that laptop is now not functioning. Assuming these photos were added through that laptop, is there a way to remove them without syncing to that laptop? Also, why would there be some duplicates. Would it have been an error in the sync process that created the dups?
I'm thinking MAYBE the answer is going to be to sync the iPad to my NEW laptop. If that's the answer, is that safe to do without risk of losing stuff? (music, movies, apps, app data, settings)

I assume the photos have made it onto the iPad through syncing with the computer with iTunes, yes?
Then you should sync again, but first remove the photos you don't want on the iPad anymore from the selection of photos to be sync'd.
You can delete them on the iPad, but (a) next time you're syncing they'll be back there again unless you excluded them then, and (b) you probably need the space on the iPad for stuff that's also coming from the computer via sync - so then you can do it all at once by modufying the selection of what shall be sync'd.
Hint: This is the forum for iPhoto as in "on the Mac". Since you're referring to iPhoto for iOS and seem to have a PC, not a Mac, you should post in the dedicated forum for iPhoto for iOS.

I want to remove a few photos from my iPad, but not from my Mac (from-to which I sync). Is this possible? I can get the "delete" button to show on the iPad, but it is not fully lit--i.e. pressing it does no good.

You can delete photos that you took on the pad, and photos that you imported from the camera connection kit right on the pad. That delete button will work on those.
Photos that you synced from the mac get deleted by resyncing. When you connect the pad, push the photos tab, uncheck sync all, and then select only the photos you want on the pad. The mac acts like the master storage unit, and all the photos will stay there (unless you delete them in i photo) and copies are placed onto the pad.
Photos you take on the pad, by the way, dont get moved to the mac during a sync, you need to import them to iphoto. While the pad is connected, open up i photo, and the pad will show up as a device on the left side. You can select which pad photos you want to import. Those photos are now part of the master copy on the mac, and can be synced back to the pad, or not, as you decide.

If the missing email is no longer on your email provider's server, there is no way to recover them. If this is an iCloud email address, you can check your mail on icloud.com from your computer to confirm whether the lost email is there or not.

Photo Stream only holds photos for 30 days or 1000 photos which ever comes first.
If you have a PC/Mac set up with iCloud you can find them there.
Photo Stream was never intended to be a backup solution it just syncs across devices

I lost my itunes media folder and also my iPhoto files. I have the majority of the photos from iPhoto library on my iPad. How can I get them from my iPad to another location. Like exporting them to a folder on an external drive.Is this possible. I know I can move photos I've taken with the ipad to a new iphoto, but how can a get the old iphoto photos from my ipad to a new location? I'm basically starting over. Don't ask what happened. An external drive? Not sure that there is any way of doing that. There are a number of WiFi transfer apps that should let you transfer the photos back to the Mac itself. Look at some of these.

Try sending them via the Messages app as opposed to E-mail.
E-mail shouldn't normally be a problem, but Messages will do as a soloution.
To do so:
. You need iOS 5
1. Go to your Photo Gallery
2. Open up the album/ images you want to send
3. Press the share button (top right hand corner)
4. Select 'Send as Message' (not e- mail)
5. Select your friends Apple ID from your address book for his iPad
6. Voila!

have the photos on the iPad been taken with the iPad camera or imported using the camera connection kit?
Or have they been synced to the iPad with iTunes?
You can download any photos to your mac by connecting the iPad by USB to to your Mac and import to Phots, but this way only photos from the Camera Roll will be imported. If your photos have been synced with iTunes, you can only mail them to your mac.

You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures taken by your device, or saved to it, from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device, email the photos from the device to yourself. Then download the photos from the emails to your computer.

I mistakenly deleted some photos from my camera roll and they were deleted from both iphone and ipad photo albums. Can I retrieve them somehow or are they gone forever? Now I read that doesn't help to free up space...not sure what does free up space so I can back up my phone again. Help!

Are you sure you deleted them from your camera roll and not from photo stream.

I have transferred some photos from an sd card using an apple adaptor to my iPad then I did a sync in iTunes. How do I now organise the photos into folders?

At the moment you can't move photos between albums directly on the iPad, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn (from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos) :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device.
Until then you need to organise the photos in folders on your computer and then sync those folders to the iPad - and you need to sync all the folders (and therefore albums) that you want on the iPad together in one go, as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad; not including photos in a sync is how you delete them from the iPad.
